Hey, fun little fact about the scene where Puss apologizes to Kitty. She lied about not showing up! She did it to make him feel better about himself. Otherwise she wouldn't have been so mad at him.
I love the headcanon that Death would've caught up to Puss sooner but kept getting sidetracked because of having to deal with the trail of all of Jack Horner's dead henchmen.
My headcannon is that death was there when perrito was drowning, saw the situation and he said something like, not now perrito, so he makes the holes on the sock so he could swim up and give him another chance.
@@AlphaEnt2 I honestly don't think Death would interfere with the natural process of death. He didn't want to kill Puss and wouldn't want to save someone either
@@buckethound2095 Most of the time yes, but villainous implies evil/malicious intent, whereas antagonist just simply means they are against the protagonist and their goals. Since Death isn't really evil in this movie (just a force of nature who's had enough of Puss' reckless living), that's why I would say he is more properly an antagonist
42:10 Perrito actually does something called Deep pressure therapy, something that therapy dogs are taught to do when they feel their owners are about to have a panic/anxiety attack where the dog lies down ontop of their owners chest/stomach, helping them avoid harming themselves and at the same time help them ground themselves out of their fight or flight response and activate what's called a parasympathetic nervous system to calm down and lower the heart rate of the people having anxiety attacks. Perrito is a wonderful service dog and a true friend.
My dog tried doing it out of pure instinct. Never taught her anything about panic attacks a day in her life and when I'm on the floor tweaking out from a panic attack he laid her head on me for a couple seconds. Wasn't long but it helped enough
@@zeianestraca9429 it's probably because she must be used to lay her head afains you for pets and normally when you are petting her both of you are happy, so she associates it with happy and calm, so she did it to try and calm you down
I love how you guys almost immediately start discussing who Death might actually be; despite him saying it himself, he's Death, and he didn't mean it metaphorically, or rhetorically, or poetically, or theoretically, or in any other fancy way. He IS Death. Straight. Up.
My favorite part of this movie is that Death is 100% right about literally everything. He is the Great Equalizer. He's a price we all have to pay... except for Puss in Boots. Puss keeps getting second chances and he doesn't even care that what he has is special. Puss in Boots laughs in the face of death, because he doesn't understand what life is worth. In the end it's Puss who has to change, to fit Death's code.
Indeed! I love how Puss in the end doesn't actually "beat death" as in defeaying him in battle, he instead changed himself and death accepted that. So freaking good!
This character, Death, works not only because of his meaning or the designe, it's works because he's voiced by a great Brazilian actor, Wagner Moura, the same actor who play Pablo Escobar in Netflix Narcos.
@@nomad15067 I love that "punishing the ego" it works so well because what can literally scare people like that? Why not the fear of death itself ☠️💀☠️
@@Saphthings Wdym. The first one is amazing as well. I re watched it before this one and it was fire! (ngl didn't remember it being that good but it was)
So, the dog's map is: "Pocket Full of Posies" - Sounds nice until you realize that entire little nursery rhyme is an analogy for the Black Death/The Plague. "River of Relaxation" - More than likely a reference to the river his owners tried to drown him in, or if you wanna make it darker, could potentially be an analogy for the River Styx in Greek Myth. We don't really get a good look at the "Quick and Easy Solutions" one I don't think, but given how subtly dark the analogies have been so far, I wouldn't be surprised if it had something to do with Suicide or Suicidal Thoughts. The thematic reason for why we don't really see it is likely because Perrito has never actually gotten to that point due to his superhuman levels of optimism.
It's also worth noting that the map responds to your intended wish and personality when creating the new pathway, and Perrito literally doesn't want anything. He couldn't think of anything he'd want more than the friends he already has, so the Star takes it easy on him. It's the story of his life, and he survives it by being so amazingly positive that it can't really break him down like it would others, as exemplified by the best solution to the Posies being to just be friendly and walk right through, where other, more assertive personalities try to fight.
@@colt1903 it's more like putting a band-aid on a bullet wound. Sure it was quick and easy, and it may have stopped the bleeding, but it's going to bite you later because you didn't take the time to remove the bullet to prevent lead poisoning or disinfect the wound to prevent infection.
The best moments that touch to the core: 1. The Puss said that he had never been touched by blade. Death is the first to wound him. This is both a metaphor and another indicator of how much more serious things have become. 2. When a Wolf puts coins on his eyes, this is an obvious reference to Charon and many other burial traditions. 3. The fact that the mother bear is ready to do everything for the sake of the desire of the Goldie, even though she wants another family for herself... I melted.
When Mama Bear said they would continue to help her get the wish even after the reveal, that definitely subverted my expectations in a heartwarming way. I was expecting the characters to split up for the sake of the plot, but the fact that the bears continue to help Goldi because they support her really shows the bond they have with her, which makes the arc Goldi goes through much more satisfying
The fact that at the end of the film when the Death says "Por qué diablos fui a jugar con mi comida?" Which means, "Why the hell did I go play with my food?" In Spanish makes this film so much better
Also when kitty is cussing when Jack caught Peretto she said "I'm going to turn you all into skin rugs!" Also yes I laughed so hard when Death started cursing in Spanish! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Jack Horner's depiction in this movie is weirdly fitting. Supposedly, the nursery rhyme "Little Jack Horner" was written to mock the real life Thomas Horner, who according to the history books was a sleazy lying land dealer.
Fun fact, you can actually see Death in the crowd during the giant fight scene, specifically when the crowd does a wave for Puss. He really has been there for each death! He also appears as the border design of all the death cards during the 8 deaths, the corners are him, hooded and holding his sickles up!
Also fun fact, the bell tolls 8 times during the sequence, the eighth being when it falls on him. They do this several other times in the movie and it's so subtle but so ingenious
Another thing. When Puss comes back for the encore, you can hear Death's whistle among the crowd's cheering and whistling in the beginning. Right before the bell falls on him.
Another thought I heard someone say is that he is the only one to see death throughout the movie because he is close to it, while in the end everyone is literally close to being incinerated, so they were all able to see death
Why? Hollyweird loves to push the lie that family is a lifestyle choice rather than a biological reality that stands regardless of how anyone feels about it for years. How is this time THE MESSAGE is repeated any different?
13:49 Death said "run run little cat" 30:56 Kitty says "oh how scary" 1:01:13 Death said "Why the hell did I go play with my food?" 1:01:30 Puss says "yes, until my death"
Based on his line, "from one orphan to another," I figured Perrito knew he had a terrible past, but he refused to let it influence him in a bad way, so I guess his 'hilarious' story was indeed a coping mechanism.
Also, the panic attack scene was really accurate, the voice actor for puss apperantly struggles with his mortality too and sometimes has similar panic attacks, and to be honest I do too sometimes when my thoughts think about it too much
@@ivra6345 what exactly does that have to do with fearing death? Also why does it matter to you if someone's an atheist lmao (Im aware this comment is a month old but I really don't care)
@@JazzJasper bro atheism is a tool of capitalism it pushes to consume like there is nothing better and when you have a lot of possesion you're afraid to lose it when you die but when the most important thing you have is not material like faith you care less about dying coz you'll still have what matters for you so yeah that's why atheist are more likely to be cowards afraid of death
Perrito choosing to stick with Perrito (Little dog) is pretty fitting, since both Puss and Kitty are... well... just cute ways of saying "Cat". So we have the team composed by two cats named Cat, and the dog named Dog.
49:55 I remember in the theatre when Death came out of nowhere, I actually recoiled in my seat and a woman who was sitting next to me actually shrieked.
In terms of animation to give it that more anime/comic book style, they decreased the amount of frames for the animation to give it more sudden movement which works very well in action sequences. Most modern anime animate at 24 fps and lower. Also for this movie it is very much stylized like a painting.
If it was 24 frames it would be smoother, generally speaking most films will be at 24 frames per second because it looks good and there isn't any real need to have more frames the way a game would need them for responsiveness. This also goes for animation but to save costs and resources they can hold individual frames for 2 or even 3 frames' length, which in animation it's called drawing on 2s and 3s respectively and it's called on 1's when you draw every frame. Animating on 2's or 3's cuts the amount of work needed from 24 to 16 or 12 a second in the case of most movies, if the framerate was 60 the numbers would obviously be higher but the principle of dividing needed frames remains the same, some times they'll even modulate the framerate in the middle of a scene so it can go from 2's to 1's and so on. Generally most anime is animated on 2's and 3's with 1's being reserved for very few scenes, Disney movies always opted to make stuff on 2's and 1's, and with CG movies studios have always opted to just work on the poses and let the program automatically in-between the movement at a perfect 24 per second, which still takes a lot of work as you still need to do a lot of poses and set the timing of the movement for the program to make the motion of characters and stuff look right, not to mention all the modeling, rigging, and rendering of each frame behind it. Basically what I'm saying is that this is animated on 1's or 24 fps normally and then mainly for action scenes they modulate the frame rate and basically hand make the frame rate like in classic animation rather than have auto inbetweening, which is why the action has this anime feel to it, well that and the over the top choreography, perspective tricks, and less photo realistic rendering style of course. Obviously Spiderverse also did this, and a fun detail is that Miles always moves at 12 fps while the other spiders move at 24 till he matures and learns his powers where he finally unlocks 24 fps movement like the others
@@nocturnalcove9736 He's actually listed as Wolf or Big Bad Wolf in most of the cast credits I've seen online; like IMDB and Wikipedia. Big Bad Wolves aren't necessarily a one-off in fairy tales so it's possible that this interpretation of Death is one too. It's also possible that this was a concerted effort to keep the truth of his character's nature a surprise for the movie; although the movie went far too hard on the Death analogies for it to be much of a surprise by the time he "reveals" himself.
@@SmilingJack65 To be fair on that last point, I think it's reasonable to assume the death analogies are for thematic purposes rather than meant to be taken literally. In the end it was both, but it's reasonably hard to tell when watching.
They made just alittle bit too obvious, but most people wouldn't immediately pick up on him being death, cuz not everyone's gonna pick on it the first time, but after reconnecting all the scenes of wolf/death. Like I feel Death shouldn't have been shown too obviously, but the attire and his two weapons kinds gave off the vibe of death or bounty hunter when he showed the bounty. It kinda kills the mood when some ppl picks it up immediately as it just ruins the surprise and twists
I keep seeing people react to Kitty being in the movie like she hasn't been an established character. I feel like I'm the only one sometimes that remembers the first Puss in Boots movie
in the english version the characters are already native spanish speakers (puss being spanish and perrito and kitty being mexican, for example) so no, they don't sneak any english words in the dub, they just speak spanish. the only difference is that instead of english, they made goldie and the bears argentinian lol
“Just wish Death away” That would defeat the entire purpose of the movie teaching kids the mature lesson of understanding mortality and the other lessons of the movie
Star light star bright first star I see tonight I wish I may I wish I might have this wish I wish tonight. I wish Death was gone. Magic Wishing Star: Bro I set up a barrier so that nobody can escape until a wish is made or else they die. AND HE JUST WALKED RIGHT THROUGH IT. You want me to what now?
Quite honestly, I loved and very much prefer Puss’s new look in this movie much better than the previous movies. He just has so much more expressions and plus he’s much cuter in this one. I’m glad the character designers on this film went for a slightly different design to Puss and Kitty. I hope to see more of these designs in the near future. 😊😊
Regarding those who think that Kitty didn't show up at the wedding, here are my thoughts on why I think she absolutely did show up: 1) She spends the first half of the movie clearly being pissed at Puss for something, and by the way that he grabbed her by the tail, it's clear that they know each other more than simple acquaintances (hinting at a deeper relationship) 2. From seeing how she double-crossed Goldi and the bears, we know that she's more than willing to lie if she seems it necessary 3. Kitty's wish, as shown by the map, is all about companionship, so why wouldn't she show up at the wedding (as marriage is often seen as the ultimate companionship) 4. She overhears Puss tall about Santa Caloma with Perrito and how much he regrets it 5. If she didn't show up, how would she know that Puss didn't show up (i.e. being left at the altar implies that you're at the altar in the first place) 6. If she didn't show up, wouldn't that make her a bit of a hypocrite, and thus lessen the severity of Puss' wrongdoing? Which then leads me to why she would lie about not showing up 1. She is helping Puss not to wallow in self-loathing, since she can already see that he's sorry 2. She's making the point about why would she want to show up for "that guy" (i.e. Puss' narcissistic legendary self), and acknowledging how much she's seen him change I hope this is a sufficient explanation for that particular sequence, because that seems to be where most people are confused with this movie. Either way, this movie is still amazing 😍😁😍
I also thought it was an obvious lie, and then later in the movie she was going to reveal it to puss in a moment of anger, but that moment never came, so... yeah, That's sad
I think she saw that he wouldn’t show up and BECAUSE of that she didn’t, which would make everything said in the movie true and not undermine the trust they have built by having part of it built on a lie
The way she says "I didn't show up either", it sounds like she thought of that line spur of the moment. There's almost a hint of "Uh" at the beginning that rolls into "I", like she thought of it on the spot
As a 3D animator, I love that the most unique thing about this movie is how hand-painted it is, from the backgrounds to textures..It's made to give a vibe of a fairytale book!
"perrito" means "small dog/puppy", n earlier on they called him "perro" (dog)! i rlly wish they added subtitles for some of the spanish, at least specifying what words they're saying - i know enough (very limited) spanish to keep up, but some parts still got past me the first few times. (edit: you literally realised this immediately after i posted this comment lmao rip) also - have you guys seen the first puss in boots movie? you seemed surprised by kitty's name, she's introduced in that movie n u see how she n puss met!!! it takes place before shrek, n whilst it isn't as good as this one, it's got a lot of cool puss backstory (and was one of my favourite movies ever as a kid - i adored puss, so him getting his own movie was the best thing ever).
The switch between not really open to another Shrek movie with "how do they keep the story going??" To the end after watching what they could do with it being "I would love a Shrek movie" is just how awesome this was.
It's always interesting when stories show death as an actual being. It reminded me of all the poems about how people actually thought death was a being going around killing people in the olden years. This is definitely my second favorite death as a character with how he's only after puss because puss never appreciated any of his lives so why would the last one be any different, so may as well just kill him now. My first favorite will always be kindred from League of Legends even though they are more of a spirit that takes souls after the event that killed the person than killing them themselves. I always like how kindred represented the duality of death with how one's death will happen. It's up by faith whether you will be chosen by lamb or wolf to die that day. To have lamb's death which is either swift or by natural causes and by having wolf's death yours will be painful and slow. Though sometimes you get to choose how you die as lamb asks whether you want her arrow or wolf. And while the majority chooses the arrow, she always asks this question for those who say no to know what they are in for. And why people chose the wolf because they see it as fighting their battle with death and the wolf always gives someone the chance to run and live for another day. It's basically the idea someone will die peacefully or actively lives life on the edge and keeps throwing themselves into dangerous situations that could get them killed.
I don't know if it was on purpose but if feels like they took inspiration from several other current depictions cause Death in this movie very much reminded me of that, Puss is running from his death so he gets the Wolf who chases him down. Also the fact that they went with him using sickles instead of a scythe reminded me of Malthael (Angel of Death for those not familiar) from Diablo. They even have him do Malthael's pose when he says 'but you never noticed, cause Puss in Boots laughs in the face of Death, right?' Maybe it's just a coincidence, but I feel like the similarities are there.
Y'all are such a fun group to watch!! I really love how invested you guys were, this is by far one of Dreamworks greatest films of all time! Also I 100% agree that Death is an incredible antagonist. I'm happy he wasn't pure evil, he was just super fed up that Puss didn't value his own life.
I was happy with that too. He was angry. Puss didn't respect his lives, and therefore didn't respect death. But once he saw that Puss had changed and was willing to live his life without escaping to more lives, he accepted his tempory defeat and let up.
@@barbararab6390 I think I saw an AU comic that someone made where Death found Perrito in the river and decided to take him under his wing- it was very cute but now I can’t find it again
Could have been nice to have him somewhere in the frame, watching Jack go down at the end. Buuuut Death's arc concluded decisively with Puss, so it's fine that he leaves the movie entirely at that point.
@@tbotalpha8133 My headcanon is that Jack didn’t really die, and here’s my reasoning. Even though the map was ripped apart, everyone still got their wish. Goldi wanted a family, so she repaired her relationship with Mama, Papa, and Baby. Puss wanted a second chance at life, so he fought Lobo for his second chance. Perrito didn’t really have a wish, but he became a therapy dog for Puss. Kitty wanted companionship, so she and Puss repaired their relationship. And Jack Horner wanted to have all the magic in the world, so when he sank into the Wishing Star, he didn’t die, but became one with it.
@@dodogamabro2975Great now whenever some poor wizard is trying to cast fireball they’re gonna hear some random dude laughing about how he has all the magic in the world.
Everyone got what they wished. Puss got "his life" back, Kitty got people to trust in, Goldi got the family she always wanted and Jack become magic or something.
My favorite movie of last year, and still holds up in my top 3 today. It actually helped me get through a rough time and motivated me to keep living my life to the fullest, and not wasting it. So glad you reacted to this masterpiece!
in the fight scenes what they do is lower the amount of frames and using lines of action that are usually left on the storyboard so it gives that comic book lookalike :)
The spanish bits from the wolf were in order:you’re not living up to the legend cat!” “Run kitty run!” When he was pissed at the end he said”Why the Hell did i play with my food!”
A bit late here, but to answer your questions about why Puss is different from the other cats at the beginning of the movie, it’s because he’s a Fairy Tale Creature. This world, as Shrek showed us, has regular animals and irregular ones. Donkeys exist, but only Donkey (the character) can speak. This is because he’s a Fairy Tale Creature and therefore has had magic that a regular Donkey doesn’t have. The same principle applies to Puss versus regular cats.
That fight scene at the beginning seems like the perfect example of how we’re seeing more animators who grew up watching anime and learned to draw like that style first 😂
I love the ending of the fight scene with Death when he says ¿POR QUE DIABLOS FUI A JUGAR CON MI COMIDA?! which translates to WHY THE HELL DID I GO AND PLAY WITH MY FOOD?! If he hadn't taken the time to toy with Puss then there's a REALLY good chance that he never would have had his epiphany and Death would have actually been able to claim him. It shows that while Death may be inevitable, if you appreciate the life you live, he won't come for you early. That whole character is so amazing.
Only thing I'd like to point out: Death wasn't a villain, he was an antagonist. He was opposed to the main character, but wasn't evil. He had a personal vendetta, sure, but can you really blame him? If he had been a villain, he'd've killed Puss anyway, and much sooner.
He's absolutely a villain, he didn't kill Puss earlier because he was having fun torturing him. If he was coming for Puss at the natural end of his ninth life he would be just doing his job, but he's actively trying to kill him. This doesn't change the fact that he's right about Puss not valuing his lives, but he's still a villain.
As someone who deals with anxiety, it's quite accurate. I have mild panic attacks pretty frequently. You don't want anyone to talk to you or anything. You want to find something to distract you just to reset your mind and get it off the fact that you're having a panic attack. It's not fun to live with and will drive you to insanity.
I’ve had severe panic attacks with my heart rate over 200 and it’s almost exactly like that. Your vision starts to become blurry or tunneled and you start to feel this overwhelming sense of doom. Even as a grown man, the thing that would calm me down was talking to my mom. Having her give me a hug and tell me that it’s going to be okay. It’s a seriously terrifying experience but having loved ones there to rescue you can feel like a literal life saver. What’s even cooler about this movie is that in 2017 Antonio Banderas had a heart attack and he said that experience made him realize that some of the things he was focused on really didn’t have meaning and helped him appreciate the small, but truly important things in life like family and friends. Just like the movie!
@@WanderingNasi Yep! Your hearing starts sounding like you're in a tunnel. I've had ones where the "feeling" of being numb lasted for hours and nothing seemed real the whole time. It's not a fun experience at all. I'm glad you have someone who can comfort you and calm you down! :)
19:02 Puss is special because he comes from a fairytale from Charles Perrault book, Tales of Mother Goose from 1697. Anyone who comes from a fairytale or nursery rhyme would make them the main protagonist of their own life. Thats what I think anyway.
I usually hate reaction videos, but this is legit. Y'all actually make good commentary about the movie instead of the usual "I'll occasionally laugh about something and call it a day" other people do. I joined the gold-tier Patreon for one month just so I can watch this in full.
There is a very popular fan theory that Death WAS only visible to puss and the only reason everyone else can see him by the end is that they were ALL close to death being on the wishing star (knowing that the barrier outside it kills you). Also that Perrito represents life while Wolf represents death :)
Puss and kitty’s relationship has more context with the first movie (where they met) but besides that it doesn’t really matter too much tbh (I mean I liked it, it also makes this movie hits harder because we see puss kinda just being invincible in that one)
I’m an animation university student; the animation style is called 2.5D it’s a 3D model animated and then a 2D animated layer is put over it. It been used in action shots for decades but has become very popular now with technology advancing. Other movies with 2.5D are MLPFIM the movie , Wolfwalkers , The Lion King , Spiderverse, The Bad Guys, Amazing World Of gumball, The Console, Mitchell’s VS The Machines to name the most well known examples.

Fun fact about Death in the film: you can see him in the background watching Puss fight the giant during the crowd wave scene, tying back to when he said he was there to witness every death Puss had
I adore this movie, so glad I saw it in theaters! I also love Perrito, he's actually voiced by one of my favorite actors Harvey Guillen ( he's best known for playing Guillermo in the TV show What We Do In The Shadows )
“Can you just wish Death away?” Excellent question but I doubt it. In fact they kinda address that in a really subtle way. When the last member of The Bakers Dozen went into the Star magic they were vaporized. Death walks through it no problem. Confirming that Death is in fact more powerful than a magic star that can alter reality to grant any wish imaginable.
Movie: **Stablishes Wolf as a bountyhunter** Everyone: "Maybe he's Death" Movie: **Reveals Wolf to be actually Death** My brother in Christ: "He might be a real bountyhunter"
Man…Death’s been watching Puss the whole time. Did anyone notice when Puss drank that coffee during the giant fight and charged out, Death was in the crowd when they waved? He was there too 😳😳
The irony is that thanks to his knowledge and massive collection of magical artifacts and tchotchkes Jack Horner is probably the most capable magic user in the world.
Judging how you were all unfamiliar with Kitty Softpaws, i assume you guys haven't watched the first Puss in Boots movie, which I highly recommend that you do after this.
To make it even worse that means that any physical copies of Shrek are now considered antiques... Something is considered an antique if it is older than 20 years.
That panic attack scene made me want to cry. Like I have a hard time crying, but that scene combined with my PTSD and anxiety issues made me want to bawl like a toddler. A SHREK MOVIE ABOUT A TALKING CAT BEING SCARED OF A WOLF IN A CLOAK DOES A BETTER JOB WITH PANIC ATTACKS THEN 99% OF HOLLYWOOD. I must admit, if this is the future of the shrek franchise.................This could surpass the first 2 movies by a country mile
The "stop motion" y'all were talking about is actually just a lower framerate on the animation. This is typically done during action scenes so what is happening is more clear. When the framerate stays the same sction scenes can become muddy but with a lower framerate, individual frames stick out more making the action more clear
Best rendition of the big bad wolf in a LONG time. If you go back to the giant fight where the people are doing the wave you'll see Death there Honestly when people had been saying 2022 was the year of Pinocchio they weren't lying we got em in this movie too and a jiminy cricket

What I've noticed is that Death never showed up on the map. When Goldi picked it during Puss's panic attack, we could see all major characters on the map except for the Wolf, even though he was around at that moment.
I saw this movie today in the cinema. It was absolutely fantastic and it even made me shed a few tears!! We got the usual guy who voiced the cat in the Polish dub and it was incredible as always!! Makes me very excited for a possible Shrek 5 or PiB 3!!

“Purrito” actually means “little dog/puppy” while “Peuro” just means dog as they were just calling him dog in the beginning of the movie. I know very little Spanish but in school I’m taking Italian and some of the language actually overlap’s for example having “ito” or just the “io” sound at the end of a word to make it small. I don’t know why they didn’t just add the Spanish subtitles :/ Side note; This movie is so amazing and currently my favorite movie! Everything about it is just **mwa** chefs kiss
The "animated stopmotion" is actually them dropping the frame rate! And yeah, spiderverse really made an art form out of it to give that more "comic book" feel. P&B the Last Wish really took the style and ran with it. Great stuff.
The wolf is the literal embodiment of death, and although he is technically cheating the rules of life and death, how he said he hates cat because they have 9 lives and in the end Puss actually appreciates life which is why death decided to then wait till it was his actual time
Jack is stuffing everything into a seemingly bottomless carpetbag. A certain nanny owned one of those ("I got a magic nanny bag full of stuff!"). Also the Bakers Dozen are thirteen henchmen and the big cart is pulled by HORNLESS unicorns.
This movie is an absolute masterpiece. I watched it yesterday, and I just want to watch again. The animation, music and story was very well developed. And it's the best animated film that I have ever seen in my entire life. Well done to all of the actors including Puss in Boots, and Kitty. Just a all-around amazing film. Thankyou DreamWorks

Thank you, love this insight
Indeed! I love how Puss in the end doesn't actually "beat death" as in defeaying him in battle, he instead changed himself and death accepted that. So freaking good!

So, the dog's map is:
"Pocket Full of Posies" - Sounds nice until you realize that entire little nursery rhyme is an analogy for the Black Death/The Plague.
I really like that interpretation, which only makes me love Perrito more.
The "Quick and Easy Solutions" is pretty self-explanatory. Quick and easy solutions have a habit of biting one back in the ass at a later point.

The best moments that touch to the core:
1. The Puss said that he had never been touched by blade. Death is the first to wound him. This is both a metaphor and another indicator of how much more serious things have become.
2. When a Wolf puts coins on his eyes, this is an obvious reference to Charon and many other burial traditions.

In terms of animation to give it that more anime/comic book style, they decreased the amount of frames for the animation to give it more sudden movement which works very well in action sequences. Most modern anime animate at 24 fps and lower. Also for this movie it is very much stylized like a painting.
Didnt they alsi animate over 3d
i heard it's called 2.5d where they make a 3d model then drow on top of it to make it more like 2d
One of the directors from into the spiderverse also was on the project
Its also funny to see them decrease their FPS as someone gets or walks into the battlefield
I love the fact that you guys immediately picked up on the fact that the Big Bad Wolf was actually the Grim Reaper

@@nocturnalcove9736 He's actually listed as Wolf or Big Bad Wolf in most of the cast credits I've seen online; like IMDB and Wikipedia. I’m glad the character designers on this film went for a slightly different design to Puss and Kitty. I hope to see more of these designs in the near future. 😊😊
Regarding those who think that Kitty didn't show up at the wedding, here are my thoughts on why I think she absolutely did show up:
1) She spends the first half of the movie clearly being pissed at Puss for something, and by the way that he grabbed her by the tail, it's clear that they know each other more than simple acquaintances (hinting at a deeper relationship)
2. From seeing how she double-crossed Goldi and the bears, we know that she's more than willing to lie if she seems it necessary
3. Kitty's wish, as shown by the map, is all about companionship, so why wouldn't she show up at the wedding (as marriage is often seen as the ultimate companionship)
4. She overhears Puss tall about Santa Caloma with Perrito and how much he regrets it
5. If she didn't show up, how would she know that Puss didn't show up (i.e. being left at the altar implies that you're at the altar in the first place)
6. If she didn't show up, wouldn't that make her a bit of a hypocrite, and thus lessen the severity of Puss' wrongdoing?
Which then leads me to why she would lie about not showing up
1. She is helping Puss not to wallow in self-loathing, since she can already see that he's sorry
2. She's making the point about why would she want to show up for "that guy" (i.e. Puss' narcissistic legendary self), and acknowledging how much she's seen him change
I hope this is a sufficient explanation for that particular sequence, because that seems to be where most people are confused with this movie.
I love how everyone who reacts to this movie doesn't realize this is a sequel to the first Puss in Boots. Kitty Softpaws is from that one.
The switch between not really open to another Shrek movie with "how do they keep the story going??" To the end after watching what they could do with it being "I would love a Shrek movie" is just how awesome this was.
Everyone is reacting to this movie and I AM ALL FOR IT
It's always interesting when stories show death as an actual being.

No you don't.

6:40 Death is watching Puss from the alley while everyone is doing a wave.
19:02 Puss is special because he comes from a fairytale from Charles Perrault book, Tales of Mother Goose from 1697. Anyone who comes from a fairytale or nursery rhyme would make them the main protagonist of their own life. Thats what I think anyway.
Thanks!
There is a very popular rebuttal, namely the wolf interacted with and destroyed objects as well as making puss legitimately bleed
Wolfwalkers I love soooooo so much, just like this one
@@GalekC I adore Wolfwalkers soo fricken much!!! Its such an underrated gem of a movie! I wish more people did reactions to it. It almost best Soul at the Oscars 😭 I call it my lesbian Wolf witches comfort movies
If you like this kind of stuff with the comedy , action and animation style.. I recommend Mitchell's Vs The Machines. I think it's from dreamworks as well
That's a great one! It's from Sony.
Its from Sony actually, same team as spiderverse
Oh yeah.. my bad. They're really good
Vouch!! Beautiful animation and cute character designs there
That's from Sony
Fun fact about Death in the film: you can see him in the background watching Puss fight the giant during the crowd wave scene, tying back to when he said he was there to witness every death Puss had
I adore this movie, so glad I saw it in theaters! I also love Perrito, he's actually voiced by one of my favorite actors Harvey Guillen ( he's best known for playing Guillermo in the TV show What We Do In The Shadows )
I KNEW I RECOGNIZED HIM FROM SOMEWHERE.
The fact they didn’t watch the 1st one so they have no idea who kitty soft paws is is actually hilarious
This is most definitely one of the best movies of 2022. Perrito is someone everyone needs in life🥰😭🥺
On top of everything i gotta give props to Banderas and Hayek for both being good actors AND voice actors. It is so difficult to be great at both
Movie: **Stablishes Wolf as a bountyhunter**
Everyone: "Maybe he's Death"
Movie: **Reveals Wolf to be actually Death**
My brother in Christ: "He might be a real bountyhunter"
It hurt so much when the movie itself spells it out too
You guys should check out Spiderman: Into The Spiderverse if you haven't already. Action in that film inspired this one.
We actually talk about Into The Spiderverse during the giant fight
Spider verse definitely changed 3D animation a lot. And dream works was smart to follow that path in which Disney failed
Man…Death’s been watching Puss the whole time. Did anyone notice when Puss drank that coffee during the giant fight and charged out, Death was in the crowd when they waved? He was there too 😳😳
For those curious about Jack's bag of holding, well technically it is a bag of holding just as much as it's Mary Poppin's bag.
If you go back to the giant fight where the people are doing the wave you'll see Death there
Honestly when people had been saying 2022 was the year of Pinocchio they weren't lying we got em in this movie too and a jiminy cricket
i mean man aint really big bad wolf since the only animal that would be close or always kill him is a wolf death takes that form for puss in my theory atleast
Aint the big bad wolf the wolf in a grandma dress from shrek?
@@icedshadow5789 in my perspective I see each different story as different wolves cause in each story every wolf gets their end. Three little pigs, red riding hood, the wolf and seven little goats whatever the case he's big bad to me
@@icedshadow5789 wolves are used in a bunch of stories but this movie as far as I can remember never even stated Death was the big bad wolf, it’s just a wolf
@@thederp9309 he literally says he is straight up death, not metaphorically, not conceptually.... he literally says he is STRAIGHT UP DEATH, wtf do you mean it's just a wolf? did you literally see the movie?
25:44 if you saw the first puss in boots movie in 2011 Kitty Softpaws was in the first movie and also Puss’s lover ( if you do watch the first movie remember to watch the end credits of it because it has a special surprise at the end)
You should really watch the first Puss in Boots movie because it’s also really good and Kitty Softpaws is in it. (If you do watch it remember to watch the end credits of that movie it has a special surprise at the end)
Yes
What I've noticed is that Death never showed up on the map. When Goldi picked it during Puss's panic attack, we could see all major characters on the map except for the Wolf, even though he was around at that moment.
Probably because he isn't a person, just a force of nature
I saw this movie today in the cinema. It was absolutely fantastic and it even made me shed a few tears!! We got the usual guy who voiced the cat in the Polish dub and it was incredible as always!! Makes me very excited for a possible Shrek 5 or PiB 3!!
I love that death is more pissed at Puss for not valuing any of his lives instead of him not dying in general.
51:08 "Is death real? I think it's in his head" Meanwhile the scene right before
"You are?" "Death. And I don’t mean it metaphorically or rhetorically or poetically or theoretically or in any other fancy way. I’m Death, straight up."
I love that Perrito kept that as his name! Perrito (aka dog), Puss (aka cat) and Kitty (aka cat). The three of them make a matching set :)
I don’t know why they didn’t just add the Spanish subtitles :/
Side note; This movie is so amazing and currently my favorite movie! Everything about it is just **mwa** chefs kiss
Perrito*** perro***
The "animated stopmotion" is actually them dropping the frame rate! And yeah, spiderverse really made an art form out of it to give that more "comic book" feel. P&B the Last Wish really took the style and ran with it. Great stuff.
Amazing reaction! I really liked the group discussion in this one. Damn I love this movie so much.
The “bag of holding” is actually supposed to be Mary Poppin’s magical carpet bag
The wolf is the literal embodiment of death, and although he is technically cheating the rules of life and death, how he said he hates cat because they have 9 lives and in the end Puss actually appreciates life which is why death decided to then wait till it was his actual time
Part of me wonders if Death took the form of a wolf just to freak Puss out, considering that he had died once because of a pack of dogs.
SO glad you guys reacted to this absolute masterpiece
Jack is stuffing everything into a seemingly bottomless carpetbag. A certain nanny owned one of those ("I got a magic nanny bag full of stuff!").
Also the Bakers Dozen are thirteen henchmen and the big cart is pulled by HORNLESS unicorns.
I literally watched this in theaters with my girlfriend today. It's so fucking good, the end made me cry actual tears
1:00:36 lol it sucks that they put this part in Spanish but it’s funny because Death Literally says “Why do I always play with my food?!” 😂
57:30 I cried at this time, I grabbed the tissue blowed my nose and wiped my tears off.
the thing about why puss looks slightly different, the brim of his hat isn't red anymore and his white fur is more noticeable
Cool fact, the first letter of every line of Goldi's book spells out the phrase "You already have it." reffering to her desired wish for a real family. :)
Did I just watch an hour of nostalgia? Yes. Did I watch the movie like a few days ago? Yes. Do I love the movie? Absolutly! Do I love the video? Yes!
14:06 actually it defers from studios/vendors. You won't believe the crazy amount for just a second of dialogue in another language
This character, Death, works not only because of his meaning or the designe, it's works because he's voiced by a great Brazilian actor, Wagner Moura, the same actor who play Pablo Escobar in Netflix Narcos.
**everyone sees and hears death**
The guy in the top right: iS hE rEaL?
I love how Jack Horner is just comedically pure evil
I’m still wondering why the dude on the top right seemed so disappointed/confused that Death was real at the 59:00 mark. Like what’s with the “why?” I mean, “why not?” It’s like he didn’t want him to be real.
Fun fact the scene where Death puts coins on his eyes is reference to the Greeks they where supposed to put coins on the eyes of their dead so that they could cross the river Styx
“I’m death straight up”
“Yeah no I think he’s a bounty hunter”
I already know this is gonna be a fire reaction! 🔥🔥🔥
