Some people will, I personally wont because I jump them so much generally that going a little or closer to the lands from where I'm starting isnt going to make any significant difference
I have never had any luck with hornady out of my 6mm Creedmoor, they fly apart about 10 meters out of the muzzle with 1.7 twist 28" barrel. I have had great results with berger and nosler . Great video.
This comes at a great time. Looking to get started in reloading for a centerfire rig and this really helped give me a rundown of the process. Thanks for the video!
Sweet video man ! This is the kind of content I have been searching for 😎. I’m shooting a 6gt this year for coyotes My load development hasn’t been great for SD’s but the 80 eld vt are grouping well. I’m interested in seeing a video on the clip on (thermal?). Do you plan on putting a video out on it ?! 😎
6mm Creed, 8 twist, 95 Berger classic hunter. Tried in 3 different factory rifles, all normally .75ish @ ~3300fps. Anchored every time so far. Longest shot 353, shortest shot 50 yards. 75 vmax also has worked well out of dasher 7.5 twist 3550 avg fps. But it’s on the edge of coming apart. Imr 4350 for 6 creed, varget for dasher.
I would love a video about the iray MAH50! Especially with a trigger cam or something so we can see the crosshair. With both hunting vids if possible with estimated ranges if possible and on the range showing us the clarity at different ranges with different magnifications . There are not many great videos showcasing this thermal clip on.
@@noahburden702 Yeah, Completely different units. The RH25 is a fantastic do-it-all unit. You can run it on a helmet, handheld, as a dedicated sight, or as a clip on. Its much more tailored to 150y and in usage and LPVOs and frankly is just OKAY as a clip on. The MAH50 is the inverse of that. Great as a clip on but you can hand hold it if needed. I havent seen anything to helmet mount them (probably never will) but the FOV is pretty narrow for using it as a walk around optic. Best thing is buy whatever fits your 80% use case the best.
Load development can get you scratching your head. It looks like you have head room on the powder charge, but this looks like a “no free lunch” situation. Thank you for talking through the decision-making process.
Very good informative video. For a dasher (I shoot dasher myself) the groups are dissapointing. I think you have a constant problem whith double grouping. Could be wind doping, trigger pressure, parallax, bag technique, flinch, cheek weld, scope mount. Secondly, I would recommend a proper load development meaning finding the right powder charge in smaller increments. then seating depth. Try the Berger guidelines for finding seating depth with VLDs.
Yeah, not SUPER pumped about the groups for it being a Dasher. I'm going to redo with just one bullet (same charge weights) and see what sort of different results I get if any.
Great video, load development is always something you wonder if you are crazy or stupid while doing it. So I’m glad to see I’m not the only one that goes “wtf” while developing.
I appreciate it! Sometimes it really is like that. I try to take 5 round groups with a grain of salt and admit the potential for me ruining the results lol
I've done a lot of load development over the last 20 years for prairie dog guns, f-class guns, fun range guns, and hunting rifles, and yes, I've seen what one could correlate effect of different powders and bullets to, but I've never gone back and tested it. ive also seen where it obviously didnt effect it. so i can't say with any certainty. dont forget to consider how many other people have actually tested it. i would guess no one else has either. there could be times when people have shot a known good load after using a different powder and/or bullet and gotten "bad" groups with the first group. the different powder or bullet is the easy thing to blame it on, instead of it just being natural dispersion. long story short, im skeptical that it is really a thing. if it is, to what degree is it a thing. in your situation here, I wouldn't blame your overall results on it being a different bullet. also, over the last 20 years, ive only ever heard this conversation over going back and fourth between ball powders and extruded powders.
Yeah not discounting anything and ultimately its just a coyote killing load so anything under an inch is good enough for me to consider! I did find it very interesting with the way out of group flyer on the group with the leftover match ammo where 4 shots stacked after that, replicating what the rest of them did when switching bullets.
@FullCircleReloading yeah, I thought about that too when you shot the match ammo. I'd really like to know what the cause was. the other thing i wondered about is, was that shot a result of your barrel being worn out or the different bullets being shot before. you said retired it from competition use. this is one of the situations i was talking about before where there are a few variables to consider with this barrel, but the easy thing to do is go along with what everyone else has concluded. you barrel wear and how many rounds since it was cleaned to bare metal last is two big ones. I've seen "shot out" barrels shoot good for 20, 50, maybe 100 rounds after cleaning before they shoot bad again. in this situation, more testing is really needed to say what the cause was.
@@reloadingfun the barrel is really fine. And I know how that load actually shoots out of it which is why I really wanted that "control" group after shooting so many "bad" groups with the varmint bullets. These Hawk Hill barrels all take the exact same load, seating depth, and shoot the same velocity and group size when I get them cut by Hunts Long Range. So that flier is DEFINITELY an out of the norm thing I never see from these. Probably only has 1800-1900rds on it. I just retire them for comp use at 2k now. I've had one die on me I was trying to stretch life on at a match 4 hours from home. I try to get two new ones broken in over the winter and ready to go before the next season starts so I dont have to scramble to do all that during match season on top of everything else.
Good work! Any chance for a bore scope video and maybe round count. Also appreciate the second round of loads to tinker and verify your results. Since Hornady has started the “your groups are too small” what’s your best 20 round group?

Been doing the same thing but with 6 creed. Using 80gr TTSX for deer and coyotes. I swap barrels every year at the end of PRS season and then use my deer and coyote rounds as a break in for the new barrel. Been using the same load for years, usually half moa or less depending on the barrel. Running 3450-3550 and could go hotter but I don’t really see why. Slap the action in a carbon stock instead of the heavy chassis and it’s pretty manageable for a deer and thermal setup
Sounds like a killer setup!! Do you find the TTSXs to be too tough for coyotes at that speed? I'm not against a solid, but really dont have the experience on super light targets at high velocity like coyotes.
10-12x seems fine. I'm going to do a long one with the thermal here soon but wanted more coyote footage through the triggercam. If you go on my IG (@gconnoyer) I actually have a 15min reel just aiming around and going through 3-15x mag and showing stuff out to about 900.
