Did you both actually get fluent in English after coming to the US? I can only dream to be so fluent in French comme ça lol. Alex your US accent is amazzing. You both would be great instructors, however Tom you could the one to stress on correct pronunciations which is what most struggle with.

@@atfrenchies What makes non-textbook learning important is that textbooks don't give you a taste of the *conversational* language spoken in a culture. Many moons ago, when I did an elementary course in French at my local Alliance Française, we learned from the textbook, but nothing beyond it. No idioms, phrases, slang, etc. Merely textbook learning ends up in the kind of French speaking that Eddie Izzard so hilariously describes. Glad to see that you hit the elephant in the room. I've followed many Europeans who came to the US to acquaint Americans with their culture. In every instance their efforts eventually crashed.
