Old British school French text books used the word ‘ Garçon’. But it was many years, decades ago. No longer, thank goodness. There are many inaccuracies in school text books or at least there were. Hopefully things have improved . 😊

In Canada I've never heard the word "prehension" use in English. Haven't even seen it in writing. Apprehension often means "fear" so I think your suggestion in the comments of "comprehend" is better. Thanks for the tips about ordering and paying in a cafe. Lots to learn.

When j first learned French in school 50 years ago, I was taught to call a waiter “garçon” and always felt uncomfortable about it.

Just FYI, hardly anybody knows prehension means. Maybe relate it to "apprehend" instead?
