I fell in love with home free's cover of the song. My church. that was the first song I ever heard from them. I was lucky enough to have them go perform 2 hours away from me north of Boston. I drove spent the night didn't care about the expense. It was so worth it. They put on a great show. I highly recommend if you get a chance to see them. Please make that happen.
When the original artist performs along with Home Free, you know that he approved of the cover. This was great
They did it for the 50th year celibration. They sang it again in Hollywood when Don got his star on music row.
Home Free regularly switches lead in a song. Some of my favorites are those when they all have a moment to shine. It depends on the song. This is such a long song that each sang a verse.

What an honor it must be to be able to sing with Don McLean and the result is so great. With a Home Free twist but still respecting the original. The harmony is amazing again. And what a great voice Don McLean still has. My childhood memory of this song is that I always had to sing along. And now I do that again.

Love this remake of this classic song. Can't believe it came out 50 years ago. Don McLean still has a good voice for his age. And love hearing all the guys take a turn in a verse. Poor Adam had to do such a long stretch of beatboxing but he nailed it. Think the song is about 8 min. long. Don McLean received his Hollywood Star on the Walk of Fame recently & Home Free was invited to sing a portion of this song there. What an honor for them.
"American Pie" pays tribute to the loss of 3 legends who died so young (Buddy Holly, Richie Valens & The Big Bopper). A lot of references in the song are made to many artists from the early days of music including Elvis, Janis Joplin, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Byrds & others.
Don McLean again collaborated with Home Free on his song "Vincent". It was just released last week. Hope you check it out too.
Sometime during making the documentary, "The Day the Music Died," Don McLean invited Home Free to collaborate with him on a remake of "American Pie." (Really cool documentary!)
