Bischoff knows that Sting was on Nitro for pretty much all of 97 right? The way he tells the story about how Sting walked in and saw that he had not worked out or tanned, made it seem like he hadn’t seen the guy for a year.
That whole match was b******t, Sting should have won clearly, I think that match put a lot of fans off of WCW. I like Hogan but that was 100% Hogan's fault, He should never have had creative control over every match.
The problem is that fast count or not, Stinger didn't even attempt to kick out. A fast count is only controversial *if* Sting kicked out at a normal 2 count but the ref counted 3 before that. It looked like Nick Patrick could have counted to 5 without any issues. Furthermore, even after the 3 count Sting stayed on the mat, looking like an opponent that just got beat. Hogan looked confused. It's like all 3 had a different idea at that time. That's why I think to some extent everybody ballsed up.

Surely this match should have been discussed months ahead of time. This was WCW's biggest match and it screwed it up. Both Hogan and Sting should have been heavily monitored so they stayed in peak condition and had a prior meeting to discuss it with the referree and on-air ring crew and announce team so everyone knew exactly who was doing what and the finish so they could have all been on the same page. There were a lot of factors going into this that screwed it up but ultimately, Bischoff should have taken it completely seriously and had the prior meeting, even if they rehearsed the entire match over and over again to make sure that this would have been the greatest match in WCW history it deserved to be.
Bishoff says Sting showed up out of shape but he looked fine to me. the Referee said both Hogan and Bishoff said to go Nice and Slow with the count. My takeaway is that Hogan used his Creative Control to save face at StarrCade cause he knew if there was Controversy that the win would be tainted ie Not a Real Loss and Hogan hated losing at PPV's in General which is why most of his Losses in WCW came on Nitro but being as they knew the fans would be Mad about the Finish at StarrCade they decided SuperBrawl was the place to go why they didn't do it at Sold Out I will Never know. But the Finish was just Bishoff protecting his Golden Goose but by 1999 the Fans would start realizing he was just Fools Gold being as I don't think Bishoff ever had a plan for the Big Moment where Hogan would lay down clean to usher in the New Face of WCW.
Makes me think of the shoot interview where Hogan was complaining about Piper not wanting to do jobs killing the opportunity for him and Piper to do big business back in 84-86 Hogan talking about how he'd do a job to Piper and so forth and so on Complete bullshit I don't blame Piper for refusing to job to Hogan clean Hogan was never going to return the favor at that time period I'm still amazed he agreed to do it at Starcade 96
I blame eric JUST as much as terry. Never should've had FULL "creative control." That means LAST say on EVERYTHING. "Reasonable" is subjective = plausible deniability.
Regardless of the reasoning, changing the speed of the count was a stupid idea that did nothing but screw everything up, there was legit no positive outcome to doing that.
