Doofer911. I just 'discovered ' these today Friday april21, so many of these items they DID not have in days of B707 & DC9, am 75 now, British license great vids thanks man
Could you let me know what improvement is needed? Was the audio too high or too low? I've reviewed the raw video and here on UA-cam and the volume seems to be consistent.
Great work again! Keep 'm coming! I watch as you post, and I'll be sure to do 'm all again once winter is here and I'll go back to the cockpit at home 😉
Don't know if it is intencional, but the tone of your narration sounds a lot like the instructions that flight attendants give before planes start take-off procedures. And it's very calming too. : D
at schiphol airport we have some taxiway centre lines. but we also have ones which are not included in the vid. instead of an arrow and then a line to the apron. at schiphol we have the apron number followed by a line. no arrows at all.
3:44 paused. How do we make FSX display those markings? I typically see the branch-off centerlines, but when they say "park at gate 2"... I've never seen a number displayed anywhere. And some airfields have #1 on the far right (such as KBUF in sim), and some have #1 on the far left.
When leaving, an aircraft will turn on it's Beacon/Anti-Collision lights which is the Red light above and below the center of the plane. This is basically warning ground handling crew "The engines are about to be started/The engines are running, STAY BACK!". At larger airports, sometimes the baggage handlers will stand out at the wingtips during pushback and give hand signals asking any vehicles to stop. As for arriving at a gate, it's just common sense. Planes have right of way at an airport so if you're driving along and you think a plane is going to turn into a gate, stop, wait to see what the plane does and then react accordingly.
Thanks. We really enjoy and learn much from your explanations. We fly often and are always intrigued by the operations at airports. Now, we have some insight on things ...... :^)
At the start when you said an apron may also be referred as a ramp, wouldn't the most common word for it be a stand as they use over ATC for example: "EZY5225 stand 10 requesting push and start"?
You called those red blinking lights "Red beacon lights". I always knew them as anti collision lights or sometimes known as anti smash lights. What does everyone else call these lights in civilian and military aircraft? VMA(AW)-224 A-6E electrician U.S. Marines '86 to '91.
So when a man wants you to turn, I know how it goes but I'm confused about if you turn the same direction as the man like when he wants you to turn right for example, do you turn to the mans right or your right?
Pleeease fix the sound for next time. it is very tiring. First there are the pop-sounds and general audio quality (nasal, lack of high frequencies). It sounds like you are using a cheap microphone or headset, quite close to the mouth. Then, because it is close and the mic is fixed or handheld, as your head/mouth mouth moves around in front of the mic, the sound volume constantly changes a lot. basically every quarter second you talk in the mic, then left to the mic, than top of the mic, then bottom, etc. maybe depending on how you angle the mouth if it is a headset.
Thank you for the detailed description! That really helps me out :) I've listened again carefully and I understand what you mean. Unfortunately I do just have a headset microphone however I'll look at getting a much better quality microphone in time for next week. As for nasal sounding, that might just be my voice, not much I can do about it I'm afraid.
i am sure it is (also) the mic. Put the mic farther out (so the distance becomes more constant and the sound more consistent) instead of in front of the mouth maybe? this will also get rid of the "pop" sounds.
Hi you are right about vehicles driving under the plane but there are times that you can do that it’s mostly if the aircraft company are okay with it and normally it’s onlt the fuel truck that parks under the wing. If you ever need to know how anything works at a airport I can help I work at one.
Ecto Gaming20 EBT (electric buggie) diesel buggies tugs catering vehicles TSU (Toilet service unit) water trucks De-icing units Jeeps Cars vans Mini & full size buses Fire appliances tractors HiLo (the loaded that puts ULDs ((bins)) onto and off aircraft) Belt loaders (the baggage belt that goes into the a/c) Refueling trucks a cross between a buggie and tractor -- terminal, atc tower, fire station, maintenance warehouse for parts storage, hangars, baggage hall, cargo warehouses. Thats all I can think of my airport if it helps any.
You might want to review your audio setup and listen to the playback before uploading. This video had the audio going up and down in level and clarity and there was a lot of popping noises on the mic when using hard sounds (like p's and b's) that could be fixed with a pop filter between the person talking and the mic.
Yep, in the past I was using a headset to record all my audio but for all videos after this one, I'm using a new microphone which should offer much better quality.
FSX: Steam Edition, REX Essentials, Active Sky Next, Aerosoft Airbus A318/319/320/321, PMDG 737/747, A2A Cessna 172, Majestic Dash 8 are the main ones.
You said in previous video, that where the TX runs alongside apron, this part of the TX edge marking will be yellow dashed. In this video, you said that apron is separated from TX by 2 solid white lines. So, do both of these markings take place? Thank you for nice informative videos)
Some taxiways are okay, as long as they're not in the Movement Area. Movement Areas are under ATC direction, while Non-Movement areas are not. With some exceptions, all ramps, access roads, as well as some T-Hangers and low-traffic taxiways are not controlled, and GSE can move as they please through them. That being said, all aircraft still have right-of-way, so under no circumstance should a pilot have to stop the plane for a ground vehicle (only exception being an emergency vehicle with lights on). Source: am airport ramp worker with driving experience.
It's possible that you were watching other ground ops. I remember seeing a car driving around London City Airport regularly to shoot fireworks into the air to scare off birds. Even so, they have radios in the car and contact ATC for permission to use Taxiways, cross runways etc.
Hi! I love your videos! I have two suggestions. Do you listen to "Kennedy Steve" who is a Ground Controller? Anyway you might help interpret what he is saying? I try to follow his instructions to the pilots. Especially the nicknames for the various airlines. It sure would help not only understand Kennedy Steve; but any other Controllers. Thank you!
I believe you are referring to the plosives, or pops, that peak out the audio signal. A pop filter, usually about $15 USD, is all it takes to keep plosive sounding words (e.g. Pop, buTT, PLenty, TiTle, and any sound with hard consonants) from overwhelming the microphone diaphragm and sending a peak level signal to the recording device. A simple $15 USD tool I wish more amateurs would invest in.
It would have but Copyright strikes are a big concern for UA-camrs so I didn't want to risk using a photo which the owner could make a copyright claim against.
Yeah essentially. The official name is Apron, the word Tarmac came after a news channel did a story about a hijacking and said that the plane was parked on the "Tarmac" hence why you might hear that word used instead of Apron.
Right arm you waved left, left you waived right. Could you to this anatomically again? Thanks, I've been waiting for a video like this for a long time.
Thanks for addressing my question. What you see is mirror image signals from the pilots view? So if the pilot needs to go left,( directions from groundsman) the groundsman signals waive right? Thank you
Ah ok, yes that's correct. The groundsman will wave to the right if they want the plane to turn left. Remember that they will be looking at the front of the plane as it comes in to park. And if the groundsman wants the plane to turn to the right, they will wave left.
Not mirror imaged, the ground handler (marshaller) will _point the direction_ he wants the plane to go and wave his other arm. I'm sure its more intuitive than it looks here.
Heads up.... you'll get a lot further in life by presenting your concerns in a more constructive manner. For example, instead of saying "The audio sucks".... You could have said "The audio quality didn't match the educational value of the video, it may benefit you to double check your audio settings for future videos." And my response to you has been a constructive one.... instead of telling you to fuck off and don't try to criticize anyone if you haven't tried making videos yourself. :)
Hey, don't know how your voice today but your voice on this 5 years ago is kinda hard to hear and the volume keep changing when first started the video. I suppose you move close and far from the Microphone frequently during this record.
This is one of the best KNOW HOW videos as far as aviation goes, great FREE knowledge that could be useful to future pilots..

That Marshall stick figure made me subscribe. BEST THING EVER!
haha, well I need a name for him! Any ideas?

Very informative, need audio improvement.
Could you let me know what improvement is needed? Was the audio too high or too low? I've reviewed the raw video and here on UA-cam and the volume seems to be consistent.
It is kinda too low, a bit too much of "wind blowing" sound/voice (maybe your mic is too close). :)
Awesome thanks :)
There were parts where the volume kept going up and down.
@@Doofer911 thanks pro
Great work again! Keep 'm coming! I watch as you post, and I'll be sure to do 'm all again once winter is here and I'll go back to the cockpit at home 😉
Will do, got quite a few planned for the channel :)
That was a great video! Good work. Appreciate it.
Don't know if it is intencional, but the tone of your narration sounds a lot like the instructions that flight attendants give before planes start take-off procedures. And it's very calming too. : D
Not intentional, I guess it's just rubbed off on me haha.
at schiphol airport we have some taxiway centre lines. but we also have ones which are not included in the vid. instead of an arrow and then a line to the apron. at schiphol we have the apron number followed by a line. no arrows at all.

Thanks very informative will be working ramp soon so trying to learn as much as possible videos like these are great thank you
There are several videos about additional Air Marshal hand signals in use. I would recommend:
Air Force Funny Crew (Part 1) and (Part 2)
Thanks for this, but please fix your audio. Sounds like you have auto-gain on, or bad compressor settings. Thanks!
Already done it! :)
Great video as always Doofer, thanks!
Thank you Doofer. One more time a very well addition to my knowledge. ;-)
I love these type of videos!
cool...this guy speaking like typical aircraft captain: full nose and quiet, so at any noise level you nearly cant hear him...grin
A lil bit smarter from a random recommended vid. Thanks!
You're welcome! :)
Subbed because I love airplanes.
Love these videos! Please make more! :)
Congratulations! From Brazil!
Yes they do need a orange strobe light for ground veichles good video
I worked as a Ramp Agent in my first job out of school so this is one of the few parts of aviation I actually have professional experience with!
I LIKE UR VIDEOS. IT IS CLEAR !
Excellent, glad to hear it despite the dodgy audio haha
What about leaving the ramp and how are ground vehicles alerted that a plane is about to enter or leave a certain ramp area?
When leaving, an aircraft will turn on it's Beacon/Anti-Collision lights which is the Red light above and below the center of the plane. This is basically warning ground handling crew "The engines are about to be started/The engines are running, STAY BACK!". At larger airports, sometimes the baggage handlers will stand out at the wingtips during pushback and give hand signals asking any vehicles to stop. As for arriving at a gate, it's just common sense. Your stickman draw is great 👍👌
At the start when you said an apron may also be referred as a ramp, wouldn't the most common word for it be a stand as they use over ATC for example: "EZY5225 stand 10 requesting push and start"?
Yeah I mention "stand" later on in the video but it looking back, it would have made more sense to introduce the word at the start.
Okay no worries just in a mood to criticise people today...
Thanks very much im am making a airport on a game and all of these videos are very helpful! Thank you very much!
You're welcome! Glad I could help :)
The Marshall is awesome. You should make it a freeware addon
If I was confident with programming, I would give it a try!
Is it just me or are the hand signals mirrored? With a right turn being left handed, though the animation waves its right hand?
Nope they're correct. Remember that you're looking at the Marshaller from the pilot's perspective.
Great video! Do they still produce such low-quality mics in 2016?
I screw up one video and never hear the end of it! :P Mic issues have been resolved.
I had no issue with audio..... thanks for this very informative video..👍
Turn on the automatically generated subtitles and go to 0:58 😉
HAHAHAHAHA!!!!..... I'd love to leave that as it is but I have to change it lol.
guess it's changed now
Mohammed Iqlas Uddin nope, i just checked 😂
Since these are auto-generated, you can't change them
It's possible to dsable auto-generated captions for a video though.
You called those red blinking lights "Red beacon lights". I always knew them as anti collision lights or sometimes known as anti smash lights. What does everyone else call these lights in civilian and military aircraft? VMA(AW)-224 A-6E electrician U.S. Marines '86 to '91.
Jay Lowe as far a civilian goes, in the US, it's the beacon. It's technically called the anti-collision light
This should be required viewing for all commercial pilots! They should watch this video and learn about "apron markings".
vanhouten64 of course they ducking d
+Dublin Aviation I'm a pilot this is stupid I fly out of dfw and Reagan and we always use tugs
A tug to take you to the terminal? Or for pushback? because i'm almost certain aircraft taxi to the stand.
TcO FroooZeN Only if there is some sort of complication, you are right it happens quite rarely
Could you do a video on ILS?
Got one here: ua-cam.com/video/UXuEI5JQDBc/v-deo.html
So when a man wants you to turn, I know how it goes but I'm confused about if you turn the same direction as the man like when he wants you to turn right for example, do you turn to the mans right or your right?
Estie Johnson He will direct it from your view. IE. To turn an a/c right we hold our left arm straight, this will be on the cockpits right side.
So you'll turn exactly the way he tells you too?
yup.
A very good video! I subbed!
Welcome to the channel! :)

Can you add this to your FSX tutorial series playlist?
What FS and Add-ons?
FSX: Steam Edition, REX Essentials, Active Sky Next, Aerosoft Airbus A318/319/320/321, PMDG 737/747, A2A Cessna 172, Majestic Dash 8 are the main ones.
The audio in my opinion is consistent however, you might want to purchase one of those mic windscreen.
Its consistently inconsistent. But still understandable.
Very informative video...thanks :)
Good video. Thanks
Why were the subtitles not edited correctly?? There are a number of errors.
Ask UA-cam, I've not put any subtitles manually on my videos.
You said in previous video, that where the TX runs alongside apron, this part of the TX edge marking will be yellow dashed.
In this video, you said that apron is separated from TX by 2 solid white lines.
So, do both of these markings take place?
Thank you for nice informative videos)
Yeah, different airports use different markings. They both serve the same purpose and indicate the same thing.
I've seen the marshals drive across taxiways before at MAN. Wasn't even on the designated roads.

Except terrible sound.
Terrible sound will be resolved for the next video :) Petr Prokeš
what kind of microphone did u use?
Got a headset with a microphone attached.
Video quality sensacional 911 thankyou Brasil

Q.C. needed! Good vid as usual. Why would you release with such poor audio? Almost threw my earbuds away! :). Haha!
Mistakes were made and have now been rectified :)
Media: did you mean *TARMAC*
Thank you ;) nice video
Nice video from malaysia
Cool vid, it would be cooler if youd shown a few real airport fotos as some examples maybe to sum up
It would have but Copyright strikes are a big concern for UA-camrs so I didn't want to risk using a photo which the owner could make a copyright claim against.

+Daniel Cannata The horror....
I've only ever heard them called Aerobridges.
Yeah, Aerobridges are correct as well!
Could you do a video of the buttons in the cockpit of 787 explained?
I can't at the moment but I know there is a 787 addon aircraft in development. Once that gets released I'll probably take a look at it.
Thank you!
Right arm you waved left, left you waived right. Could you to this anatomically again? Thanks, I've been waiting for a video like this for a long time.

nice work :))
Glad you liked it :)
To all the media people out there, there is no such thing as a fucking tarmac.
Passengers bridge are call, aerobridge....
That's one of many names for them. In the industry, their official title is Passenger Boarding Bridge.

Audio issues have been rectified after this video.
Nice
Marble stair-cases? That must be for first class passengers. All the ones I walked on were rubber.
.... huh?!?
Great video but the subtitles are literally horrific. how do you manage to get english subtitles wrong when its a native english speaker?
Subtitles are automatically generated by UA-cam, I don't add any extra subtitles to my videos at the moment.
by the way you forgot the a in may
I did :(
Well it was a great video though
Your audio seems to fade in and out.
Yeah I had some issues on this video only, I improved my audio setup after recieving feedback on this video.
Are you scottish?
I am :)
