When I spend time in nature I'm always on the lookout for wild edible medicinal mushrooms. Reishi mushroom is one of the oldest mushrooms known to be used medicinally by humans. They help boost the immune system(Which we can all use right now), have anti-cancer properties, and can help fight fatigue and depression. You don't have to harvest them wild like me, you can purchase a bag of dehydrated Reishi by using the link below.

Hi Phillip, Thanks for the feedback, that would’ve been helpful to show. I did do that in a more recent video I made of my Chicken of the Woods harvest. I appreciate the words of encouragement. Stay healthy!

Thanks Alain awesome to hear! I had a great week foraging other mushrooms, chicken of the woods and chanterelles. The high humidity really brought them out.

I usually let it air dry, break it into small pieces and slow boil it with coffee in a small pan...strain through a metal wire tea/cup filter? Now add creme/sugar/honey ? Enjoy....really easy way to use it...you can also use a spice grinder to grind it if you have one

Thanks for the tip! It’s a lot easier to drink mixed with something strong like coffee.

@@LucasMasonJarred yes, go figure people pay up to $1000/oz for "truffles"? The reishi being similar in taste should command more respect...shave some on pasta or eggs...folks I call this "cheating" because you take the most powerful anti/cancer agent there is and have it everyday....

How long does the tea last in the fridge in a mason jar?

  • @vibhupande

    Hi, thanks for sharing this.
Have you processed any of Reishi that have dried and hardened on the tree itself? There are two distinct layers - lower (padded) and upper (crusty) - which these form when dried, and I was curious about which of the two layers imparts to the tea. The padded layer is easy to slice into and separate but the crusty layer is one of the hardest things my camping knife has been through.

Hi, I prefer to harvest Reishi when it’s somewhat fresh. This batch was difficult to cut through when I got it home, I never thought to separate the layers. Maybe I’ll try it sometime. Thanks for the tip.

I'm in northern ny and finding a reishi cured on the tree is a rare thing. The slugs it them as fast as they grow usually and the borers finish them off. My rule is pick-em when you find them. Gnarly get sliced , big ones for sale , ugly and the nubbins go in tinctures for my use. I don't pick till they're mature and leave a few , especially the high ones.

Is it best to store the tea in room temperature or in the fridge? And what about the used slices? Fridge or room temp?

Does it need to be dried before I can make the tea with it? I just got some fresh ones, but I don’t have a dehydrator…

You can make tea without dehydrating them

Dry them in the sun works well. Supposed to boost the vitamin D , just like chaga. That's how I do it. When 90% dry I bring them in and place on a screen with a fan until fully dry.

You should be able to, might take longer than other types of mushrooms.

    • @timothylongmore7325

3-4 days will get them mostly dry then put them in front of a fan or open window for a week or two. If you're doing long term storage make sure they are full dry before storage. A dehydrator or oven on low with the door open. They will mold if there is any moisture. when dry put them in mason jar or freezer. I pick for sale so I have a freezer that's dedicated to reishi and chaga and other herbs.
