My beloved Dad had a couple of Opel: a 1958 "Kapitän" in Black and a 1970 "Rekord 1900" Green with its ceiling in Cream. Watching your remarkable work on this Diplomat brought me sweet memories about this outstanding German Brand. It helped me to study automotive mechanics, career that although I began to study too adult (I was 48 then in 2016 and finished with 50 yrs old in 2018) is something that makes me feeling proud of myself. I loved the Volga Gaz 21 as a child. We had a few taxis here and I managed to ride in the Volga a few times. For me it was a very luxurious car. It had a beautiful interior finish and chrome exterior. Kind regards

👏 👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌🙌 what a beautiful restoration of the Politoys Polistil Opel Diplomat V8. I must say I am impressed how you restored the base. I like that you used an aluminum metal piece and not some composite material instead. I also like how you overlapped the two metal pieces and that it’s held or bonded together with screws and not glue. Why didn’t you use glue to hold the two pieces together? It seems easier to use glue however probably not as durable. I would have loved to see you use aluminum as well instead of plastic that holds the rear wheels in place. But again very beautifully restored

That's why I didn't glue these two parts because I thought that connecting them with screws was simpler and much more durable. screwing in the screws from the inside kept the chassis the same height because their heads didn't go below his. in my videos I try to show various techniques, so this one seemed very interesting and effective to me. Ma la Politoys in quel periodo ha realizzato modelli davvero ben fatti e ricchi di particolari Questa Diplomat era davvero malconcia, ma, come sempre l' hai rimessa a nuovo,meglio e più dettagliata dell' originale . Sempre eccellente la ricerca dei particolari e della soluzione ai problemi, ma anche la tua ingegnosità e la manualità! Complimenti! Infine,bellissimo l' inserimento del tuo filmato personale di quando eri piccolo, quasi commovente!
(Beautiful model and) another superb restoration! Congrats Paul! That resurrection job you practiced on the chassis was on point. (At first I said to myself that - if it was me doing the restoration - I would have probably gone with some sort of welding technique instead, but giving it a second thought, it is probably a too stressed section of the model for a welding to withstand, so good call on going for sure with the screws solution). Not only you de-scraped it back to life with that repair, but it also - after detailing and paint - ended up integrating with the original section even better than I had originally anticipated. I'm also so glad that you keep on pumping these - they are, generally speaking, a delight to watch - out regularly after all this time, specially when so many other channels with similar content seem to have ran out of steam these days.
True Craftsmanship in this restoration. The colour is beautiful, and suits the Diplomat very well. Our family car when I was young was the Australian version of this GM design: 1965 Holden HD series station wagon.
As always, the restoration is perfect- the chassis !!! Great - the paint is beautiful and reminds me the colors of the 70's. Once again congratulations
After I was born, I was brought home by Ford Taunus. No footage from this event. So this time, video of Paul in Diplomat impress me more than excellent restauration 😃.

My first memory of my first car was the Gaz-21 Volga. It was a luxurious big car of the USSR, and I remembered it for its shape and beauty.

Funny thing is, the early Volga looks like Opel Kapitän and the later Volga like the Diplomat.

(Beautiful model and) another superb restoration! Congrats Paul! That resurrection job you practiced on the chassis was on point. (At first I said to myself that - if it was me doing the restoration - I would have probably gone with some sort of welding technique instead, but giving it a second thought, it is probably a too stressed section of the model for a welding to withstand, so good call on going for sure with the screws solution). Not only you de-scraped it back to life with that repair, but it also - after detailing and paint - ended up integrating with the original section even better than I had originally anticipated. I'm also so glad that you keep on pumping these - they are, generally speaking, a delight to watch - out regularly after all this time, specially when so many other channels with similar content seem to have ran out of steam these days.

True Craftsmanship in this restoration. The colour is beautiful, and suits the Diplomat very well. Our family car when I was young was the Australian version of this GM design: 1965 Holden HD series station wagon.
