Ikr, it’s so expressive and lively and does a great job of conveying emotion. Red jacket guy, Billy doesn’t even have an expression just a mask and yet his face still conveys a lot. I would highly recommend checking out the character demos which introduce characters and other cinematic. Unless you already have.
idk this game but given that they do this throughout this scene, they must have fairly extensive engine support for deforming skeletons. my understanding is that's usually hard? I mean check out 0:32, superb
I am starting to think that each game hoyoverse releases get progressively more cartoony. I am actually surprised these character have a bone structure with how wobbly and overexaggarated their movements are.
I don't think people care but gotta say it eitherway Animation, either 3d or 2D is not as much about money (even tho they deserve a good payment) It's about time You can pay an animator 1 million per frame, if you give them 1 day to done full 24 minute animation, it'll be crappy A weekly anime episode usually takes 3 months to produce So just remember, animation is about time, not about how much they spend Edit because a few people aren't too smart: I'm talking of animators as individual people, not as employees Even if an individual animator is paid a lot, if the deadline is too close, it wouldn't be able to make a good animation Yes, payment is important for a company, but I'm talking of animators not companies Take "animator" as "person who animates something something in 2D or 3D for a living or for a hobby" Not as "employee of a company that is paid to animate"
@@troy2223 That is to say an animator's payment only impacts the quality of their living and not the quality of their work (even though someone could argue the two are bound), especially when they are not commissioned freelances and don't (couldn't) have to juggle through multiple jobs to pay rent and food. It's just that this "animation budget" crap poisons discussion with unnecessary BS born due to ignorance when the real impacting factor for quality, as OP says, is the proper time and planning to do something good.
"Writer, when you said to make them shiver, how much shiver did you want to exaggerate?" "I want you to shake 'em in their custom baby seal leather boots, I want you to shiver 'em deep in their timbers, I want that shit SEIZURING u heard?"
This may be unpopular, but there's such a thing as being overly animated. Some the movements don't sell the idea that the characters have weight behind them, and when they do that weight feels inconsistent.
The hype over the “smooth” animation reminds me of the time when people were going crazy over 60 FPS anime videos, when in actuality the conversion to 60 FPS ruined the scenes and the “smoothness” was just headache inducing. How many of these people actually understand animation? Hopefully since most of the ZZZ videos out now are promotional, the devs might just be showing off and the game’s animated scenes are more cohesive, cause honestly if every little small thing like a character stretching is going to be that overly animated, it’s going to be so distracting and overloading.
Yeah. “Smooth” animation does not work for me if it’s that smooth consistently. I say that certain scenes where you are trying to emphasize an attack or singular action, in conjunction with Impact Frames, do really well in higher animations, as it draws the focus of what is going on an emphasizes the importance of the action, while not taking away from the general feel of the rest of the animation.
Half of the time, probably more, crazy good animation isn't due to being paid well or even just enough, it's because they are truly passionate and dedicated.
Passion is crucial, but time and money are also very important. There's plenty of dedicated animators out there, but unreasonable schedules and crunch are still detrimental to their work and health. Passion can only get you so far if you can barely eat or sleep. Thinking otherwise contributes to issues like the whole 'karoshi' problem that Japan has.
Absolutely, but I was just pointing out that the complexity and quality of an animation don't always directly correlate with the compensation of animators. In this case, it seems like an assumption, but ultimately, he doesn't know for sure@@PollenEye
Probably has the best visual expressions I've ever seen in a 3D Mihoyo game, putting aside the stunning character animations, the compositions are very well executed.
unfortunately that is what I thought too, but like everything else in the world a tiktoker will somehow cling to it in a desperate attempt for internet recognition. It is impossible to see an animation with this kind of movement and not think this way these days lol
@@randyb.9143 this animation that uses a lot of actual stretch and movement has existed since forever. you''re the one associating it with tiktok, i think if you took a break from tiktok and watched more films you would understand. anime is notorious for cutting corners and relying on pretty designs to over compensate for bad animation. i genuinely mean no hate but you might be young or unknowledgeable about animation as a field.

It honestly remind me mostly of anime in general, those tend to be very exagerated on expression, which isn't a bad thing, just different If you associate it with tiktok it's on you, but it really isn't something new on animation
I know the animation is really nice. But does anyone else feel that in ANY game with cutscenes and animations. That the pacing of the animation feels a little weird? Like the part where the scissors get thrown at Nekomata was fine. Anby pulling her away was fine. But when Nekomata says "yeowsers, I thought that was going to take my nose off". Anby just instantly says "are those... scissors-- who's there?" like the camera feels like it jumps around sporatically and we don't really get to take in the stuff that just happened.

Adding a fluid to the animation is a masterpiece.
Whoever animated the robot guy should get a raise
A catgirl that actually acts like a cat. Neat.
Also, Billy is such a trip lol
This has such a indie youtube animation energy to it and I love every single detail about it, I can see they did research and actually know what most people want from 3d animations recently, full of energy and personality in every single frame while being smooth and expressive all at the same time, this specific scene shows quickly but well both sides, for Comic Relief characters/moments to deliver the message extremely well and a quick serious moment with very small subtle body language movements showing the personality of the character represented on how they behave.
I'm so happy that 3D animations are going to this side and i'm here for it.
Also.. Nekomata gang!

God , if they did a complete game release of one of them they would make so much money.
if only they didn't censor the thighs and booba
You mean, as completed one-time-purchase game? No, sadly they never would've have gotten as much money as they get from f2p model.
a complete game release would be like.....1-2 months of revenue gacha on their slow banners.
Hoyo knows the formula and they're not gonna deviate away from free money.
@@kazukinowa true.
Of course , some people would get bored of so many gachas on that company , but Mahoyo is popular in China , so even if it gets a little bit less players there , it would still be millions of players and plenty of them been whales.
They likely wouldnt make 10th of what this game will make if its f2p.
Its like the animation fluidity came straight out of an early 2000s 3d platformer. Its awesome
@@mihd9874Even today, japan really can't into 3D animation, everything is so stiff and I'm pretty sure 95% of it is just mocap.
With the insane exception that is Arc System Works of course, they are in an entire new level of 3D animation.
This looks amazing, this entire game is so full of charm and love. Everything about it makes me want to play it right now
It won't come out until July 4th.
Is it weird to want an hour-long loop of Nekomata doing cat stretches?

Now that I think about it, it feels like Mihoyo has one game for each side of their playerbase lol. Tears Of Themis for those who like males, Honkai 3rd for those who like females and now Zenless Zone Zero for furries💀
ZZZ for battle junkies
Why is this so true lol
to complete the list, look towards the genre:
Visual Novel = Tears of Thermis
Action RPG (Hack'n'Slash) = Honkai Impact 3rd
Open-world RPG = Genshin Impact
Turn-based = Honkai: Star Rail
Action RPG (Hack'n'slash), Rogue-like = Zenless Zone Zero
[Unconfirmed IP] FPS Game
they do know how to aim for a specific playerbase
The ZZZ team is at least having more creative freedom when it comes to character design.
I think that Mihoyo's other games (Genshin mainly) lose a lot of potential in this, since they present different races to us in the game universe (for exemplo, in Genshin we have Tengu, Oni, etc), but all the models are always ordinary humans with some extra parts just to make it look like they are a different race.
For a fictional universe, I think it's a lot of lost potential.
@@ceslefoxin that's what they are supposed to be humanoid creatures i pretty much prefer that to straight up a furry no offense also we now have melusines vishaps are also a race of intelligent soon to be dragons

China has terrible work culture to the point where it has a term for workers who burn out and stop working: lying flat.
This is just plain out wrong. Sorry to break it for you, but hoyo when it comes to their employees is exception, not a rule. Just like kyoani. Majority of animators are still overworked and payed like shit in China.
The catgirl is so adorable and omg, the wolf-man...

They really captured that cartoony animation expression like what we see in an anime comedy. I love it!!
They also have a very talented motion capture artist, there's videos here on UA-cam, very expressive!
It's so rare to see such quality in animation these days that it's strange to look at
Can I just say that last shot of Von Lycaon was menacing as hell.

Daaaaaang, these animations are crazy. Back in the 80's I never would have dreamed I'd live to see anything this smooth.
So this is the result of when the budget and the time both shake hands.

GOOD LORD! Everything about these animations are amazing! The subtle stretchy-ness to it, the facial expressions moving so fluidly AND FAST, the way they interact and move... IN GENERAL.
And it doesn't just stop with the cat girl, That red coat dude's exaggerated pointing and his entire body moving with his motions are just perfection, it actually makes me upset!!!
Seeing animation so smooth and fluid tickles my brain
This looks so much like the more technological aesthetic of early Honkai, and I absolutely love it.
idk this game but given that they do this throughout this scene, they must have fairly extensive engine support for deforming skeletons. my understanding is that's usually hard? I mean check out 0:32, superb
They've got some god like riggers and animators probably
I am starting to think that each game hoyoverse releases get progressively more cartoony. I am actually surprised these character have a bone structure with how wobbly and overexaggarated their movements are.
I don't think people care but gotta say it eitherway
Animation, either 3d or 2D is not as much about money (even tho they deserve a good payment)
It's about time
You can pay an animator 1 million per frame, if you give them 1 day to done full 24 minute animation, it'll be crappy
A weekly anime episode usually takes 3 months to produce
So just remember, animation is about time, not about how much they spend
Edit because a few people aren't too smart: I'm talking of animators as individual people, not as employees
Even if an individual animator is paid a lot, if the deadline is too close, it wouldn't be able to make a good animation
Yes, payment is important for a company, but I'm talking of animators not companies
Take "animator" as "person who animates something something in 2D or 3D for a living or for a hobby"
Not as "employee of a company that is paid to animate"
You saved me a comment, thank you.
Actually is about both
@@Sanakan.safeguardthat's what he said, he only emphasized that it was more about time than it was about money.
Alright but do they get paid well tho
@@troy2223 That is to say an animator's payment only impacts the quality of their living and not the quality of their work (even though someone could argue the two are bound), especially when they are not commissioned freelances and don't (couldn't) have to juggle through multiple jobs to pay rent and food.
It's just that this "animation budget" crap poisons discussion with unnecessary BS born due to ignorance when the real impacting factor for quality, as OP says, is the proper time and planning to do something good.
This is captures why sfms are so good, that overly expressive animation makes everything look so refreshing for lack of a better .

"Are those... SCISSORS?!"
*Red Sun begins playing*
Red Sun
Red Sun over paradise
I say that certain scenes where you are trying to emphasize an attack or singular action, in conjunction with Impact Frames, do really well in higher animations, as it draws the focus of what is going on an emphasizes the importance of the action, while not taking away from the general feel of the rest of the animation.
thank you, this looks so weird
Because weeb want anime with 20 fps😂

Anby just instantly says "are those... scissors-- who's there?" like the camera feels like it jumps around sporatically and we don't really get to take in the stuff that just happened.
Yeah the dialogue can be slower and faster than it needs, probably due to difference in length of the VA between language
