I worked on the show for 6 years. I ran the computer light board we won 5 Emmys for lighting thanks to the dp Donald Morgan. It was a blast to work on never a dull moment. One big happy family cast and crew. Really loved it many great memories long live Home Improvement.
How the hell have I not seen this?! This was one of the only shows my family watched together as a child before they divorced. I still watch it all the time. Wilson will never be gone.
"Wilson will never be gone." That put such a lump into my throat that my popcorn couldn't go down and couldn't be pushed back up. We didn't have a TV when I was little, but I watched TV at my grandma's sometimes. Arthur, the Magic School Bus, and ... Home Improvement. And then in college, I rediscovered home improvement though these episodes that had been uploaded to UA-cam. Wilson really will never be gone. There is so much wisdom in his lines that I reference and live by, every day, when I get into tough situations. Most of us have our boyhood TV heroes we want to be like, and Wilson definitely one of mine.
After Tool Time went off the air I missed it so much! Then there was Last Man Standing! After it was taken of the air for the last time I was at a loss. Those shows were fantastic!
A full cast reunion will never be possible for several reasons: 1) Earl Hindman died less than eight months after this special was broadcast. 2) Several surviving members of the cast have retired from acting (Taran Smith left acting behind as soon as the series ended and has turned his attention to business ventures.) 3) Zachary Bryan [Brad] has been in and out of legal trouble in recent years, including two arrests for DUI in 2024 alone. 4) Tim Allen is hated by the entertainment industry for his conservative ideologies.
In 2003, ABC aired a reunion special called “Tim Allen Presents: A User’s Guide to ‘Home Improvement’” to celebrate ABC’s 50th anniversary. The reunion special was taped at the Wadsworth Theatre in Los Angeles, California on May 4, 2003. It features highlights from all eight seasons of “Home Improvement” (1991-1999), with Earl Hindman providing the voiceover. Tim Allen, Richard Karn, Debbe Dunning, and Casey Sander reunite in this special. The theme music is an edited version of the sitcom’s theme song for seasons 7-8 (1997-1999), which is a remix of “Iron John’s Rock.”👍
How did I not know about this show. I lived about 90 miles from L.A. and would have been there in a heartbeat. I DID manage to attend the next to last taping. They save the last taping for VIPs (dang it).
I would SO liked to see Tim face-to-face just to 1)Shake his hand and 2) TELL him to his face what an impact he has made with this show..tell him how much he is appreciated.Hope he SOMEhow knows ......well,WE all KNOW,hopefully he does
thanks for uploading only ever saw this once when it first played on tv here in new zealand i don't really remember much of i have seen home improvement to death as they played reruns just about every day for years
@@chadtaylor3292 I like stories like this. Tim Allen wanted to keep the set and not see it destroyed, unlike the guy who played Steve Urkel. He said to shoot him if he ever did that voice again. THAT VOICE made millions for you and you turn your back on it. Disgusting!
This "reunion" or "retrospective" came too soon after the show ended. They should have done something like this for the 20th anniversary of the series reunion and with all the cast members including Patricia and the boys.
33:41 - When I first saw this scene/episode and Jill said "Manland? Now you've got a theme park between your legs?".. I GENUINELY THOUGHT Tim would reply "Yeah, and it's got the BEST GODDAM RIde in your life!" Hahaha 😎🇬🇧
One thing that's evident is the 'Connection' between Tim and Nacy Travis (Vanessa) in L.M.S was good and entertaing, but the 'Connection' between Patricia Richardson (Jill) in H.I. was just.... FAN-TAS-TIC !!! The bond just seemed more 'Real'. I guess one example was the kissing, Tim and Patricia just had more 'Genuine' pasisonate or tender, lingering kisses overall which gave the stage 'Marriage' more realism. Those two bounced off each other so well. No detriment meant to L.M.S. but watching those two in Home Improvement was just pure magic! 👌😊 (Debbe Dunning helped too! 😉😍) 😎🇬🇧
I think a reunion is possible even though Earl is not here. That could be part of the story line that he passed away and life does move on. Nothing stays stagnant.
Patricia Richardson and Tim Allen had such a working chemistry on the show! It’s hard to think of them as not married in real life. lol Tim Allen should be married to Patricia Richardson! 🤣 I’m not crazy…I promise. lol😂

Nothing against Pam, but I always have felt Debbe added an energy to the role Pam did not have, particularly in those cold opens. Not to mention course she was a total sex pot.....and in a way matched the blue collar feel of the show in her looks. But even outside of that, she had something Pam didn't. Comparing their episodes is like night and day, even before Debbe got a bigger role near the end of the run.
While Tim Allen was the only reason, the ONLY to be exact, why Home Improvement was worth watching doesn't change the fact that the show never fell on the category of one of the greatest sitcoms. And the reason was very poor storytelling and absolutely horrible ad toxic portrayal of familiar and marital dynamics in the show. This show manipulated the audience to believe that wives domestic violence against their husband's is acceptable and funny. Jill dropping croquet balls on Tim's head (which resulted in him getting a concussion), her throwing things at him in the fits of tantrum and her constantly belittling, judging and bad-mouthing him are forms of physical and emotional abuse. The difference between Tim and Jill was that Tim NEVER committed the acts of domestic violence. Jill had completely subordinated Tim to her will, so much that he wouldn't dare to say anything against his wife. Jill Taylor was the WORST female sitcom character on television. She was portrayed as a dictator, who was dominating and controlling towards her family, whom everyone had to obey without question. This show created an illusion to the viewers that women are saints and they never do anything wrong. That's why Tim was always blamed if Jill happened to do something wrong. That only send a message that women are not HUMAN. The writers corrupted Jill in more ways than one.

For others..Heidi is worth divorce court.

Without a doubt, the funniest show ever in the history of television . I've never laughed so hard, as with Home Improvement.
@jwathas The Middle was probably the last great family sitcom. Modern Family in the early years was good too.
Still isn't Home Improvement though. Nothing beats this show.
Yeah, many good jokes. "Xmas without Al"? Yes, because it's called "NOEL" 🤣🤣🤣
No it's not. I do not find it amusing anymore.
It and Seinfeld were the cream of the crop.
I love Home Improvements. I own the whole series on DVD. How is it that I didn't even know this special existed?
It only ran on ABC twice in May of 2003. A third airing of this show occurred on VH1 early that fall and was never run again.
Wish the audio was louder. Yes I have good headphones and yes my volume is maxed out.

Why were the rest of them not on it?
anyone got this with better sound?
Wear headphones with volume at max it sounds fine
or download the video and then play with VLC player on your laptop/desktop so you can crank the volume above 100%
Thirdly, possibly a way to re-encode the downloaded video with the audio volume increased without distortion, maybe.
