    I have been told to drive the butt of the clubhead into the ground so many times, and it causes an over the top swing. Thanks for shedding light on how the hands come out and shallow the club. Great video!

    Jon does such a great job of explaining complex concepts in an easy-to-understand manner. This video helps me understand my swing, and not only that, I loved to see the ducks flying past! What a great looking course.

    Awesome! That is the BEST explanation of the golf swing hand path I’ve seen. Graphics are nicely done. I suffer greatly with the hands-away-shaft-inside start to my golf swing but most instructors focus on my clubhead position when my hands position is a much better indicator of my swing fault. Thank you for this. Brilliant.

    Best instruction video ever in the history of golf. Makes perfect sense. Focusing on the hands instead of the club head. Thanks a million for this advice.

      +MARTY EDDLEMAN Wow thanks Marty for such kind comments. I’m glad it makes sense to you, many feel its to technical but definitely an area that needs explaining on the differences between hand and club path. Many thanks, jon

    Just literally learned this yesterday on the range (been playing for 25+ years). Was working on swing plane with alignment stick as a guide, and noticed how it felt really weird that my hands were working away from my body, part-way intto the down swing. Been chunking the ball for years. Wish I had seen this 5 years ago when it was posted. But at least it confirmed that I'm on the right track, even though it feels weird.

    I've been struggling with hosel hits and couldn't seem to hit anywhere but near the hosel. I could see that my hands were too high at impact but until your video had no success in correcting it. Thanks for another great explanation.

    Good advice. In essence hands and body move TOGETHER DURING PIVOT AND ROTATION OF DOWNSWING.

    I was struggling with keeping the club on plane going back...I tried everything thinking maybe I didn't have enough lead arm rotation. I've seen other similar videos but none explained as well as this. After watching, I instantly was on plane going back and keeping the club in front of my hands. Thanks!

    Hi Jon that is exactly what I am trying to do for my takeaway not to have the wrist and hands too active causing the club head go behind and inside early in the swing without the body turning. My swing thought is keeping the clubhead tracking or covering the ball in the takeaway all the way till parallel, and use more body turn and keep wrist, hands or even arms very passive.
    For the downswing my swing thought is aiming the butt end towards the ball.

    @6.27 very good. My hand path extends and I have to stand up through the ball. This is one true cause of early extention. I have long susppected it is just the swing intent that is wrong.

    Really excited to try this swallowing move from the top. What's interesting and a little confusing is when the hands get to last parallel with the move you described it seems like it would cause a cut shot with the grip moving to the left. I'm wondering if this is why I hit so many right-to-left shots/pulls because I'm trying release the grip straight, parallel to the target line, once the club is at last parallel🤔?

    • @rickiew7713
      @rickiew7713 5 років тому

      Now that I think about it once I get to last parallel the vision I have is the grip moving slightly in to out to produce a straight shot. Looks like I've had a bad concept

    • @TruGolfAcademy
      @TruGolfAcademy  5 років тому

      Yep the handle defines needs to move up and left for more neutral shots and a more consistent release. Hope it helps 👍🏻

  • @kevinhill373

    Great content. Is the hand path on the backswing (coming in closer to the body) achieved by literally pulling the hands in to start the swing or generated by the shoulder turn. I continually struggle on a consistent start to the backswing so would be great to get this start simplified. Thanks, Kevin

    • @TruGolfAcademy
      @TruGolfAcademy  7 років тому +1

      +KEVIN HILL Thanks Kevin. It’s definitely not the Hands pulling I , just the chest turning away from the target. The club will naturally arc! Many just over use wrist hinge or force the hands in or out.
      Do some connection drills, club into your belly button or towel across your chest to help the feeling

      +Albany Fx Many thanks. Yes type in TruGolf Academy Impact in the search box. I have done a vary few on striking, compressing etc.
      I wouldn’t worry to much where your eyes focus, as it’s over too quickly to tell. The only benefit of this is putting as there is less speed

    These are always difficult to interpret for individuals because we're all different. I hit the ball so much better when I FEEL that my hands are dropping to my hip. Of course, they don't really, it's just I was so used to having the hands too far out the FEEL of dropping hands to the hip gets me in a better position. If I felt my hands needed to move out at all I'd slice and shank all day.

    • @TruGolfAcademy
      @TruGolfAcademy  4 роки тому +1

      Hi John, feel and real is definitely different. This is a video about the real, hands move a little out in front of us as they drop. Many need to feel hands drop towards hips (I’ve filmed videos in this also) 👍🏻

    I stumbled across this hand path thing while playing yesterday. I'd a had a bad front 9 (I've fought OTT for 30 years) and just decided to think 'hand path' and nothing else ~ my ball striking and accuracy improved massively. I spent years thinking this hands straight down thing was the right way to go to come from the inside, and I'm really glad to hear that its wrong, because I could never do it anyway.
    In my efforts to hit a draw, I am trying to KEEP the hands going out to the right of target though I gather this is not really right . . . . you're saying they should be moving in and up, which seems to me as if the club will then cut across the ball, which is the swing fault I am trying to eradicate.

    • @TruGolfAcademy
      @TruGolfAcademy  3 роки тому

      Apologies for the delayed response. If trying to draw the path of the club should be going a little right into impact but still got to move up and left post impact (both hands and club)
      If neutral path, imagine hands on one circle and club on a bigger circle, both travelling on an arc into and post impact

  • @allenchu3969

    Great video John! One question...is it the same for a driver especially at impact? I struggle with a lot of cut shots with the driver and when I try to correct it I over draw and hook it :(

    • @TruGolfAcademy
      @TruGolfAcademy  7 років тому

      +Allen Chu Many thanks 👍 Yea the same with the driver, the Hands may be a little further from body due to the arm position at set up, but defiantly working in and upas your body rotates.
      Let me know if you want me to take a look with an online lesson!?

    • @stretham123
      @stretham123 4 роки тому

      Well you are encouraging a pull through with the hands with no "release at the bottom" it's not good for average players as they do not square and release the club properly and means they have to make alot of compensations to get the club head square at impact

    • @TruGolfAcademy
      @TruGolfAcademy  3 роки тому

      Sorry I’ve only just seen your reply. I don’t suggest there’s no release of wrist angles. Please also remember there’s a difference between what a player needs to feel to what maybe reality. The amount of release as you put it would also be dependant on the clubface position at P6. I would prefer players to have a slightly strong face and rotate body more rather than open face a more clubface closure through impact.

  • @weskaplan6341

    This is completely inaccurate information...hand path is steep almost vertical early in downswing with club shallowing then hand path begins to shallow and club path steepens...this video is really bad
