    I just wanna say regarding Burnie and his remarks about Guardians of the Galaxies, you might think they're second tier superheros, but that's exactly what was said about "Iron Man". He wasn't the biggest mainstream marvel character when they decided to make a feature film on him, I think its worked out really well for them.

    Answer to Gavin's personality question at around 12:30, personality is reaction to personal experience. Personality is most easily explained as how you react to things, how you react to things is mostly influenced by memory. When an event occurs, certain paths are taken by electric pulses. Usually the stronger, or more frequently it occurs, the thicker the paths become. For example, you have something different for breakfast every morning, it's difficult to keep track of what you had this morning, why? Because the paths strengthened by doing things, and if its constantly been uneventful, then the memory will be that of eating and being in the same place. The paths based on taste, smell, and sight of what you ate are weaker because they're used less. Example of stronger memories; if you're licked by your friends dog, you may easily forget. If you're attack by a bear (and survive) your brain keeps that memory in case of this event happening again, what to do in order to survive. So overall, to answer his question, personality is sometimes altered due to the strengthened paths losing too much oxygen and dying, to where others may receive the needed amount to survive, losing memories and altering how they react to day to day stimulation due to memory loss. I'm not an expert in this field, but I've enjoyed researching this a couple months ago. If you've read this far....congrats. Get yourself something nice.

    For those who are interested in the talk about personality and brains: Your brain cells carry an electrical impulse. To pass this impulse between cells they release transmitters to other cells. Little receptors on the cells detect these and create their own impulse. Everytime this happens the cell creates more receptors. The more receptors you have between two cells, the faster impulses carry, the easier it is to remember something. Our personality is a combination of memories. (Note this is a simplified version, I'm sure it's more complicated but this is how I know it.)

    About pushing the button or you'll die. I've read that in WW2 russian captured an Waffen-SS soldier and when they heard that he could play the piano, they said that as long as he can play the piano, they won't shoot him. The poor fellow played the piano almost 24 hours straight and after he couldn't play it anymore due to exhaustion, they said that it was a good effort and then they carried out with the plan.

But who is bad guys - nazis or soviets? SOVIETS of course! Don't you think there's no logic? My grandfathers fought for the freedom of our country, against nazism. And listening such bullshit is obnoxiously.

      Being born in Russia to a family that has been in the military machine for centuries, I can attest that Russian brutality can reach levels far worse than most countries can even dream up [Though I believe brutality is necessary, even obligatory in war]. Yes, the Nazis were awful, deplorable people and the crimes they've committed have little contest, but just because the Allies fought them and won doesn't make the atrocities committed by other countries disappear, no matter how much you hate hearing about them. More death was caused by Stalin and communism than Hitler, Pol Pot, and even Mao. Going off on someone on the internet just because they inadvertently hurt your gentle feelings makes you look like a petulant child, and if you can be offended that easily you shouldn't interact with people at all.

    12:57 Phineas Gage didn't die when the rod went through his head, actually he seemed fine. He rode in a wagon into town after it went through him, he seemed perfectly normal while recovering, but later on in his life he turned more angry and mean. This was before modern medicine, it was around the time people started washing their hands and noticing cells. Oh my gosh... the run down the hill out of an airplane thing is so unbelievably stupid. It doesn't matter if you get the angle right, you'd be falling so fucking fast that you would just splatter on impact with the ground. You would never get your legs moving at the speed you need to run at the same speed your falling. And if you landed on one leg, it would just fly the fuck off and you'd bleed out in minutes! I have to agree with Gavin on his theory. I have thought the same thing, too. If the hill was at the right angle, you could just barely hit it and slide down it. Eventually it would flatten out and you would slow down. Right?

      fairly certain he said it was easy after practice. plus the crop duster is more agile so it's easier to crash.

    As a self proclaimed sandwich connoisseur (and brit) let me explain mayo vs salad cream. mayo has a lot more oil, its thicker so you spoon it usually, its white also. salad cream is more yellow and must have more vinegar as its a lot more tarte/sour and more liquidy. egg sandwiches in shops are usually made with mayonnaise and cress but try it with salad cream and chives instead it amazing :D

    The difference between salad cream and mayonnaise is that, salad cream is a yellow condiment based on an emulsion of water, egg yolk and spirit vinegar. While mayonnaise is a sauce, with stable emulsion of oil, egg yolk, vinegar or lemon juice.

    Anybody ever get "stuck" in a dream? I remember when I had pneumonia I knew I was in a dream but couldn't wake up, I tried pinching myself, it hurt, but I couldn't wake up. I ended up just chilling in the dream for a while

      Quinn Slattery Every night when you go to sleep your body goes into "sleep paralysis", it pretty much paralyzes your body so you dont act out your actions in your sleep like you can see a dog do sometimes. Your body was still in that state even though you were lucid in the dream. If that ever happens again try manipulating your breathing to wake up if it scares you, or explore the dream world :)

    • @MrMrsirr
      @MrMrsirr 9 років тому +1

      Okay this happened to me for real the other day. I was asleep for like an hour and I wasn't really dreaming but I was aware that I was asleep. I could hear the TV and I tried to get up over and over again. Eventually I got up but I was exhausted.

    What's so weird about having mayonnaise with salad, particularly in a sandwich? Is this another bizarre British/American culture clash or just the personal taste of the people on the podcast?
