@@jim8c I have a feeling a lot of "geniuses" on Discord weren't as good as solving puzzles as they were good at digging through the source of the game.
Well... I really do not believe that the dev thought that the Groundhog Day secret would take four years to complete (all the 4 golden hearts) but... ...the secret island secret? Man... that took the smartest brains to solve for sure!
@@daniellehwing4667 i hate secrets that require you to be there at an exact date to see it. i dont like changing the internal clock on my computer to cheese a game. 99% of people will never get those items
The sheer amount of secrets and details in this game is honestly really cool. It would have already been a great game without all the secret bunnies, figurines, and all the other big secrets, but including all of it really makes the game stand out and it shows how much work was put into every little part of the game. The metroidvania genre has gained another classic.
A cool detail to me is that the input method for the FEZ and TUNIC character references are themselves references to the two games. Pressing up 4 times was a secret code to be able to fly in FEZ (I think you could only use it in new game+ but I don't remember, it's been ages), and holding A for a few seconds is the key to one of the early big reveals in TUNIC.
so cool! using torus wrapping is actually a common way of making infinite 2D worlds (also see the Manifold Garden GDC talk on how to wrap 3D worlds on 4D objects) currently studying graphics programming and it's so cool to see this stuff referenced
i know this is obvious but one thing that blew me away was that i didn't realize until like 10 hours in that the map is circular since it's you know... a well. the center is the place where you put the fires and the whole map loops because it's a circle
It's a nice touch seeing the Fez & Gomez again. I still need to play Tunic, but I saw Rebakah Saltsman's name in the credits of Animal Well when I watched a full play through (I've played Finji's Overland!) Thank you for this video, excellent work! The secret bunnies are my favorite detail so far, it's nice knowing there's a handcrafted world out there we don't fully understand yet.
I love people. I played 25 hours and beat the first layer and tapped out. But I am having so much fun watching other people make their own discoveries.
Just got done putting in about 18 hours on this game now. Did most of the secret stuff, really proud I didn’t need to look up almost anything. Didn’t do the secret bunnies because that’s too much for me, but glad I found this great video (and some of your other videos too). A way of closure for me I think on this amazing game. Subbed
Although I’ve found no secret of any kind related to it, I’m convinced the heights and arrangements of the pillars with the eggs and turtles in the room at 6:54 in this video. I tried translating their height to pitch and playing it on my flute, but no luck
Again how in the heck is this optimized into a 34mb game..... and what i find crazy is that seconds before launching the game for the first time, I remember saying "man, I should finish FEZ" not realizing that Animal Well's 3D-pixel aesthetics subconsciously reminded me of FEZ. So imagine my shock seeing a direct FEZ reference.
This game is friggin nuts. When dunk announced it, i was like what are you doing man this aint super mario 3 and after 20 minutes i understood the depth of the well was far greater than anticipated
One thing I've noticed while playing, but haven't been able to find any posts on, is that there are seemingly random signs in the background throughout the world with symbols on them that are the same as the map stamps you can use. They also have different numbers of dots on them, i guess like dice, and I have no clue what the significance is.
It blows my mind how no one is talking about the teal jungle room on the left-hand side of the map that isn't filled in. I can't find anything about how to get in there to fill in the room on the map. That room is surrounded by other teal colored rooms, one being the secret bunny from the Chinchilla code and the other is the dark room with the Friendship Egg after warping through the fish pipes. It's directly southeast of the pinkish room that looks like a face smiling. She shows it at 6:38 at the bottom left of the screen. HOW DO YOU GET INTO THAT ROOM? I've tried everything.
It could be a “bait” room or something like that. I’ve heard rumors of there being “forbidden” bunnies that can only be acquired from glitching or hacking in the game that just prevent you from progressing past layer 3
Still a room on the far left I've seen no-ones gotten into. You can see into part through a glass wall by taking a fish pipe, but I've look everywhere for an entrance.
I still think there's a teleport spot where you start the floor is lava. I mean it has a circle block that looks just like the rest of the teleport spots. It could just represent a starting point, but I don't know.
@@nocapsbb I'm not on the discord, but I imagine you are. Has anyone tried seeing how far the manticore will chase you and which glass walls can be broken? There is a glass wall in that half room maybe that is how. Also, is there anything in there found by glitching there?
@@truthedministry From what I tried the manticore can be taken just about anywhere on the map, it follows you through teleports too. But if you look closely, the glass blocks it breaks with the laser actually look different from the glass blocks that are all over the map - it can't break the regular glass blocks.
it probably has none. The entire game engine, art, music and all the content was coded by one guy. I really doubt he had the time (or inclination) to put in “anti-datamining protections” as well.
@@happyspaceinvader508 He did put in some obfuscations. EG there's a bunch of fake bunnies that you can't get but they "look" identical to some of the real ones if you found them via datamining. Collecting any will result in the big secret being permanently locked.

I'm not sure what's crazier - the fact that these wildly detailed secrets exist, or the fact that people discovered them in less than five days...
