Hi Mike, I have bought a GIGABYTE B550 AORUS Elite V2 and I saw some Patriot Viper Elite II memory, I really want to use 32gb sticks so I can max my RAM out for creative reasons, redundancy et al, I was wondering if this RAM is ok to use, I want a Ryzen 3900x to go with it all, just wondering and thanks for your videos, they are really helpful!

I bought the Gigabyte B550M DS3H and I'm more than happy with it, threw a Ryzen 7 5700G, 24 gb of ram and my trusty old GTX 1060 6GB card in it, along with one of those IONZ KZ10 cases that Moike recommended, I've got a machine that is more than capable of playing anything you throw at it, despite what Moike says about the IONZ KZ 10 case btw, it's almost silent, I can't hear anything when it's full pelt, he must have ears like Batfink ;) x

Its Ok paired with 5800X3D and a mid range GPU is all you need for a decent gaming experience. But I moved away from Gigabyte after Asus due to lack of little add ons, slow and little support on updates, bios and customer service. Asus has really shot themselves in the foot coupled with overpriced hardware with lack of respects for end users and customer service. MSI and ASRock are the go to now

So glad to see a B550 review! prices are going up as range of options decrease imo. Run out of storage options on my Asus B450, 4 sata and one M.2 so looking at B550 to allow 2x M.2s but now realising this chipset as limits too! Tempted with Gaming Plus but your review said thin mb, 4layer, so keep looking for Edge or better. Sadly to no avail so far. Thanks for interesting review / comparison Mike and Kath 👍

I'm just now relieving my old Z97 Gigabyte Gaming 5 board of duty... well it will live on as a media server, probably forever. I bought this Aorus B550 version expecting similar quality, and I'm returning it in disappointment. Right out of the box, the Q-Flash button was broken. I worked around it, no problem I guess, but then I collided with Gigabyte's garbage software like a brick wall. The bios is a mess. Sometimes 2xclicking on a setting opens it, sometimes you'll need to Enter. Settings are sometimes randomly re-named and not presented in any sort of organized fashion. XMP wouldn't work on any of the three sets of memory I tried, which seems to go beyond the "sometimes it doesn't work" thing. I don't really appreciate being completely locked out of lowering power settings on my 5800x3D, either.
I did eventually get everything working and set somewhat decently. Attempting to overclock RAM was an exercise in futility, and I was working with known good memory that I know can handle more than modest timings. I was starting to think maybe I just got the board that somehow missed QC when I started to fiddle around with RGB Fusion. RGB is the least of my worries, but trying to make that heap of trash worked reminded me of my Aorus laptop's App Center and the random few other times I've had the misfortune of dealing with their software and I started shopping. The Tomahawk was $10 less than a Taichi on Newegg, so I watched a video of someone doing a walkthrough on AsRock's bios... clean and well organized. Its way more board than I need, of course, but there comes a moment when you just aren't willing to pay any money for broken things.
Good Luck with yours. I hope QC did its job well for you.

@@mikesunboxing Its really a shame that so many of the once great electronics manufacturers are slipping. I have heard a lot of good things about AsRock increasing their overall quality and also focusing more on increasing the standards of their Customer Service to fix the problems that do slip through, plus I'm getting their flagship model so I can only hope they paid special attention to this one.
The situation we are in as consumers right now makes people like you and the service you provide more valuable than ever. So many reviewers base opinion on the spec sheets rather than real world performance. There's a lot of people like me out there that buy last gen parts as the prices fall, but current, real reviews of older equipment are hard to find.
Now we have some valuable info on the MSI Gaming board, and hopefully you'll document any issues you have after installing the Gigabyte.

@@mikesunboxing The Taichi board arrived and it is very pretty, though the fancy chipset cover decorations are completely obscured by any sort of video card. Love the well organized UEFI menus. XMP applied on the first try, and ppt, tdc, edc were easily accessible. The board did ship with CSM enabled by default, which is horrible, but something anyone should be looking for at first boot I suppose. Tightening DDR timings was fine as well. All in all, it just is a fully functional motherboard, as expected. All the armor on the front and back makes the thing heavy and easily the most solid motherboard I've ever seen, if that matters for any reason. It seems weird to me to be running a halo board meant for extreme overclocking when that's not even a thing for the CPU I chose, but in the old stock market a lot of us are shopping in where the reliable, middle range versions of stuff are long since sold out, I guess I'll take what I can get.
I guess the only thing left to do is to continue to resist the urge to swap this 6750xt for the XFX MERC 6950xt as one last ~$200 upgrade. 1440 is good enough, right?
      Ugh.

I recently bought that board new, mine is rev 1.5. I had some boot issues, and was really disappointed that it did not have any troubleshooting leds, or even an onboard speaker that gives beeps. Another big piss off, it didn't come with a manual, so, unless you have a second computer to read their online pdf, you are screwed. Their online manual is total crap, you may as well not bother looking at it. Oh, and good luck getting any actual support online. I had gigabyte boards in the past, and they failed from capacitors by the usb. With that heat sink and the attached IO shield, you cant see if your capacitors are starting to bulge. The little M.2 screws very, very annoying and very easy to strip or cross thread. There needs to be a better way to mount and hold down a M.2 drive.
Installing in the case was easy, I liked where they put the mounting screws holes that are not so close to ports or heat sinks. It is a heavy board, and it seems durable, I dont think it will warp from a little heat.
