- It might seem silly to you, but Steve agreed to an interview on one condition: He needed me to watch his shopping cart while he ran behind a building to relieve himself. I was honored. A homeless persons shopping cart contains their entire world. Steve was saying he trusted me.
My honor was short-lived. Homelessness and pushing a buggy are not new to me. I have even written about my own experience pushing my life in a shopping cart. When Steve left me alone with that buggy, I was not expecting the swell of emotions that came with it. Cars drove by, and people gawked. I felt the shame and public humiliation all over again. It was a horrible experience!
But it is a part of Steves daily life.
Most inner-cities feature the stark contrast of wealth and poverty, and Hollywood is no different. Famous television shows are taped feet away from where this interview takes place. Ironically, Steve came to Los Angeles to sell a screenplay. But like so many others, he found Hollywood to be the boulevard of broken dreams.
Steves day starts by pushing a shopping cart in search of aluminum cans, plastic bottles, and glass. He spends the money on beer and cigarettes while eating entirely out of trash dumpsters.
To put it mildly, Steve is a character. I really enjoyed our conversation, and I think you will, too. He says he is on the streets because he is a tough romantic who still holds on to his dream. And after our interview, I believe him. What do you think?

About Invisible People:
Since its launch in November 2008, Invisible People has leveraged the power of video and the massive reach of social media to share the compelling, gritty, and unfiltered stories of homeless people from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. The vlog (video blog) gets up close and personal with veterans, mothers, children, layoff victims and others who have been forced onto the streets by a variety of circumstances. Each week, they’re on InvisiblePeople.tv, and high traffic sites such as UA-cam, Twitter and Facebook, proving to a global audience that while they may often be ignored, they are far from invisible.
Invisible People goes beyond the rhetoric, statistics, political debates, and limitations of social services to examine poverty in America via a medium that audiences of all ages can understand, and can’t ignore. The vlog puts into context one of our nation’s most troubling and prevalent issues through personal stories captured by the lens of Mark Horvath - its founder - and brings into focus the pain, hardship and hopelessness that millions face each day. One story at a time, videos posted on InvisiblePeople.tv shatter the stereotypes of America’s homeless, force shifts in perception and deliver a call to action that is being answered by national brands, nonprofit organizations and everyday citizens now committed to opening their eyes and their hearts to those too often forgotten.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the way we think about people experiencing homelessness.
This dude has something about him. His 50's style radio speaker voice, his "I'll pull trough"-attitude and his manners and way of speaking. This dude needs a platform.
"Homeless is tough but I'm tougher!!"
Love it. He is a writer.
That voice can make money. He will make some dough
This man needs to get radio and voice over works like the recent news story of Ted Williams who was homeless out in Ohio. Now, Mr. Williams is all over the media circuit. If only this video will go viral.
EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!
@@johnnydoeva7867 this video was 15 years ago. How is he doing now? He still still alive
This is my favourite interview out of the hundreds i've watched. This guy has real personality. Id love to meet him in real life and read his screenplay. Aptly titled "Late Bloomer". Maybe he is a late bloomer too
This guy has charisma, like most who he interviews they deserve better.
What a way to finish an interview....” I love being alive “ what a line 👍
This guy is fantastic! Talented, amazing voice. Super positive given his circumstances. No whining, no self pity. This was over 10 years ago. He's 68 now. Is he still alive? If he is, I wonder what he's doing nowadays.
Steve's voice is fantastic. He could easily do audio books or voice overs. Good luck Steve.
what a great voice! speaks very well. I hope he's doing well. Shame so many homeless people have such talent with excellent communication skills. Breaks my heart to see such amazing people with nothing and not given chances to get off the streets.
This guy needs to be discovered. He should be acting.
I wonder how difficult it would be to direct him. Then again, how many actors are easy to direct. Beautiful voice with lots of spunk. Hopefully he'll get there !!!
He has voices good enough to be Radio announcer for sports, advertisements, programme of any kind. His last statement"i love to be alive" wow... one of the greatest statement of the year. I salute this man. May God bless him.
When he said worst disease in the world I assumed he would say alcoholism.
Me also. But I think he may have changed his mind. He doesn't look like he has been ravaged by the streets. All he needs is a break. Bless him.
Wow. He encouraged me and I'm not homeless and doing ok. My my my. And his voice!!!!!! Amazing.
This guy was cool. Hope he finds so comfort soon.
This guy fricking ROCKS! I hope all goes well for him.
Charismatic guy! i hope to read his screen play some day
The Buddha said, “never feel sorry that you are living a difficult life”.
This guy knows the secret, whatever it is... I wouldn’t be surprised to see him credited for the screenplay in a money making film!
I don’t think he’s exceptionally knowledgeable but I could imagine myself sitting down with him and listening to all he has to say...
I just hope cigarettes and alcohol don’t do him in before he gets the huge payday he seems to deserve!
That man’s voice! He definitely could get a job in radio. May God help him and all homeless around the world. 🙏 😢
Just love this man ! Hope he'll sell his screenplay.
With a voice like that... shit, man needs to get noticed
Wow he is the most well spoken homeless guy so far. I dunno how many youtubers would be so confident in front of a camera like this guy is. To bad alcohol destroyed his life.
"I'm thankful for being alive" 💯
excellent voice. he should do voice overs. that'd be GREAT!
He reminds me of William Holden. I'd really like to read his screenplay.
Mark, do you know how this man is doing now in 2020? He is a smart man and needs someone to really LISTEN. His voice is amazing. I hope, sir, you’re alright.
There were things I didn't really appreciate about his attitude until I started thinking about it. Namely, it sort of sounds like he chose to live on the streets, but he's doing it because he doesn't want to do anything other than what he loves, whereas far too many people give up on their dreams and live their lives working a job they could care less about. I wish this guy the best of luck and I'll be the first one at the theater if "The Late Bloomer" ever gets released.
As a trained Screenwriter who graduated from The New York Film Academy, I want to read this man’s script!
Such a smart and charming man.
This guy was real smart ass.
he's extremely smart, I love how he asked him if he had a crystal ball.
He looks like a senior Cary Grant and right out of classic 50s Hollywood. Hopefully his ship came in since then.
señor
Now that is one g'damn character and with a great freakin voice to match! Who ever seen a homeless guy who's loving life ... blue skies and all. Well, you go out there and flourish, Steve! The world is yours to conquer!!
Still want to know what became of him after 10 years.
Steve has am AMAZING voice. He really should be doing voice over work, commercials for radio and tv, or documentaries. He has an alcohol problem, but so do many actors and writers with big careers. I am reading a biography about William Faulkner, who had terrible problems with alcohol, but always had someone who would sober him up and work with him. I am not judging Steve, but it seems that he has talent. Maybe someone will find him, take the time to bring out his talents.
Love this gentleman!! What a sweet soul. He's a very well spoken man.
they met 8 minutes before the video so Mark watched his cart for 8 minutes and then he gave him a 8 minute video, so wholesome.
Great voice. Made me tear up when he said he ate entirely out of dumpsters. I know men like this, they're contractors, Foreman's, dockworkers. Great people. I sincerely hope he's still alive and well.
He gives skinny wonderboys like Brad Pitt and Jude Law a run for their money in terms of masculinity and ruggedness of persona and physical appearance.
he certainly does! hes a nice looking guy! :-)
The voice...
He has the awesomest voice ever :D
He sounds like a movie star
foolish question senior
Pete oropeza that would be señor ***
Senor not senior
SEÑOR ... means sir
He NEEDS to get on TV or radio. Classic guy!
Very charming !
"As long I am alive, I will strive to thrive." - Martin Letaz
What a voice lol
Wow charisma plus in the voice there, move over 50's through 80's tv show host's and voice over professionals.
Steve, you've got class.
He has a wonderful voice and charisma!
He's a really nice looking man and that voice. He could tell me a bed time story anytime. Lol I'm so glad he loves life and has such a great outlook on life. Much love sweetie.
you have 15-20s - you arent giving me shit, its up to you. Nailed it
I hope he is OK and made his dream.
This guy is my hero!
I love this guy!!! He's amazing and he'll make it!! He's charmimg
Watch this video first and then just listen to it. The mans voice NEEDS to be on TV
How's this Guy doing? I love his attitude . Maybe sold his script?
i love to be alive.. if only everybody had that attitude
He said homelessness is tough but im tougher, thats such a smart outlook on life. He also has a good voice. I hope he knows though that there is more to life. God loves him. Jesus lives and Jesus saves.
He's the first arrogant homeless person I've seen, but he is loveable, and I think he just uses it as a cover (bravado).
Yeah, I thought the same thing.
nice man
this guy looks a bit like peter O'toole
What a charming man. Hope hes doing well
What a beautiful voice! Start singing mr.
That man has a voice to die for..he should be on radio
This is my favorite interview ever. This man is very interesting. I have a good friend that is similar. But my friend david is kind of a leach. I had to quit enabling him to be how he is. Not that this man is anything like my friend. He just sounds like him. My friend is basically houseless. He stays on boats that he works on at the marina by asking the owners for a free stay. Also he figured out a way to sleep at his storage space. I finally refused to enable his scam.
This guy's only has 8.00 but here's rich in the spirit.
I'd like to see him and his script/screen play get discovered and have great success. His passion for that has kept him going.
The women smiling and saying hello could be showing compassion rather than other ulterior motives. A smile can make a persons day. Love his gratefulness and appreciation of life no matter how tough. Wonderful outlook, wow
This guy is great, I'd shout him a beer just for the conversation!
That guys got a presence to him. Surely life will get better for him.
That VOICE 😊 ❤!!!! Someone needs to hire him ASAP 💯
Coast to Coast AM Radio, FIND THIS MAN!!!!!!! Not only does he have a Radio Voice, he has the natural ability merely simply just speaking!!!!!!!
#CoastToCoastAMRadio
This guy cracked me up.
He should have done voice overs and or radio.
I agree with him. The living of life sucks, but being alive to experience the suckyness is better than being dead.
Interesting Mark ended with "What's your last words" instead of "Three wishes."
What's his update, now, eleven years later?
Since he kept saying "ladies," what he could have done was meet one, and if things got to that point, if she had an extra bedroom, he could have been her live in boyfriend, and do yard work for neighbors to help pay bills, until someone took him up on his offer for the screen play, and he could have used his skills from managing the hotel to try to oversee an acting company, where he could write other screen plays for the stage actors.
And, I'm glad he was honest about getting cigarettes and beer. But, good hustle, with the cans and bottles.
Strong guy. God bless him.
I have seen this man before I'm sure of it on UA-cam I think perhaps someone else spoke to him but Iv seen him before would never forget that voice
Quite a character. I wonder how he is today. He should be making a fortune with that voice alone.
I love his voice, he should narrate something
What a character
I sure hope he doesnt become wasted talent so many others. He really should be in the industry! I wonder how hid screen play is?!
Yes a update on him is needed.
This guy has character!
Amazing.
Where is Steve now? We all need to know
the playing board is always an even slate, every person owns their own equal reality, lock, stock, and barrel, free and clear
Equal reality?? Man equally does not exist in this world
Worst decease in the world.....I'm a romantic. Great line.
Great attitude ☺️ hope your doing good.
His voice is MAGIC
That fellow could talk a person into a permanent coma !!
I like this guy's attitude.
Poverty is bad, it ruins talents ... Talents that could have enriched the society
This poor guy. If only he could get off the cigs and alcohol for a little bit he could save a little money. I hope he gets his screenplay sold.
Legend has it he is still trying to sell that screen play
This guy😍Omg ! Im in love
Please don't misuse the Name of God.
How is he now? I hope he is ok.
Amazing voice and talking
I don't think he's a good enough writer to make it. If he's been writing for all those years and still no success then maybe he needs to try something else. I know this might sound negative or cruel. But he has given away one very big clue as to why he is probably not a good writer. And that is because he talks too much. He constantly interrupted the other guy. Great writers are observers and listeners. They observe people and events and they listen more than they talk. This is what feeds their imagination. They are never big talkers like this guy. He has the looks to be a great actor .... and the voice too. I hope he changes his direction and goes for something else. Hopefully he wil find success and happiness.
If he could grind in auditioning for parts, he could definitely land something, if not just a small role as an announcer in a movie.
Ya i certainly feels the same. He talks non stop though he has a good voice but if im married to him..his talking annoys and irritates me
Love em love his style he reminds me of ME
4:29 and 4:34
He activated the Sylvester Stallone Mode.
what an interesting character
900 push ups
I don't think so
haaaaaaa....funniest comment on here haaaa
Pete oropeza
99.(99% of what he said is bullshit, he lives in a fake heaven.
Not impossible if he does sets of 50
What a voice!
This dude should be in Vegas doing standup comedy...lol
This man is natural movie star .He has a lovely voice and should be in the movies making tons of money with a big blonde o n his arm.
