FM24 Player Roles: Part 4 - Striker roles and combinations! (Treq, CF, DLF, AF, PF and F9)

- Tactics in Football Manager 2024 is built around player roles, and this is the 4th in a series of videos explaining the different roles that you could choose for your players as you deploy them on the pitch. This one looks at your forward, exploring pressing forwards, complete forwards, deep-lying and advanced forwards, as well as those silky trequartistas and cheeky false nines.
If you want to help me keep creating, you can join my UA-cam membership here and get a squad number badge:

Bro didn’t want to recheck the spelling for “trequatista”😭
Ever since i found your channel u have been my number 1 fm channel for getting to know the game better. Keep up the great work and have a merry Christmas
wow, I'm floored. Thank you, that means a lot! Happy Christmas right back to ya :D
Buddy to be easy ,i look to much Bustinet Daglet channel and i think her is the best, but after time i understand her is not the best..
same!
Half way through this play list and it’s massively helpful. I am getting back into FM after a 10 year hiatus and a lot has changed. I don’t like videos that give you tactics or AI glitches, I like to formulate my own ideas so these explanation videos are extremely useful in understanding the what, how and why to then use how I wish. Great work. That said, I do prefer the videos where you show in game footage to show how the players operate in game.
Bro you content is just the best! No clickbait just tons of useful info. Wish I could subscibe twice! Keep it going, you're gonna be big!
thank you! :D
I wish I would have found a channel like this when I was starting out FM back in 2016 , having to learn on the fly was frustrating. What’s great about this is these are things that new players or seasoned players could learn from! Keep up the good work
That's definitely the aim, I'm so glad you feel that it hits the mark!
Your content has really added to my ability within the game and enjoyment of the game. Thank you!
My absolute pleasure!
Thank you for making these videos, i'm new to fm and was having a hard time understanding these things, you explain in a lot of detail.
Very, very glad to help!
These videos are really good, reminds me of some of old Busthenet content..
that is seriously high praise!!
This is pure gold. Thank you for putting out such clear info!
Thrilled you enjoy it! :D
Been really impressed with your content, creating great videos that are well delivered and very informative.
I think videos on Roles etc will always work well! Keep up the good work 👏
I appreciate it!
@@theavgdad you're welcome!
Looking forward to seeing what videos you have planned in the future!
These are awesome videos and they have given me an extra dimension to the game. Still got a few more of these to watch, but I've changed from "key highligts" to extended during games now and try to adopt my player roles to find those weaknesses in my opponents. It's great fun when successful and I haven't lost a game since I started doing this (leading my league when my target is "try to avoid relegation").
Very nice - and wow, you must be doing a cracking job, that sounds like a seriously good season!
@@theavgdad A few minutes ago I secured promotion from English league 2 in my fourth season with Farnborough. Three promotions in four years. :)
A good solid 4-3-3 tactic and then adapting it after what I’ve learnt from you does wonders.
I love this channel it’s been so helpful, the best teaching I’ve found
glad you find it useful :)
If you upload more video everyday you will be a teacher for FM players xD, really your videos is simple to use and easy to understand really enjoy the video, i hope you upload more!
Thanks for the videos, always top quality!
You are so very welcome!
The less versatile the role is, the more specific support it requires. The Poacher in particular will push up and press little. He'll rarely receive away from goal. He almost always just heads the ball down to someone else to deal with it, if he can't shoot. If you play him with a hold up striker that drops down, you have two players that don't dribble in center and the one that should be pushing the line up stops doing it as soon as he gets the ball.
My best experience using him has been with attacking wingers that will run past him and striker partners on attack. If he's not shooting, he's just a passing pivot up top that can't do hold up, so whoever is running up and past him better be fast and near.
A key thing I don't see much about forwards is the interactions with their support. As an example - the AF and others that move into channels (F9 does too) are far more successful with Wingers on support that whip crosses into space for them or send throughballs to get on to from the halfspace. Forwards like the Target Man/Poacher prefer a more direct delivery and will do better with aggressive dribblers who will look to run past them, or dribble inside the half space to then pass to feet/play a more direct cross. It's highly likely the reason your striker isn't scoring is up to being matched with inappropriate ball delivery. Some roles in the game look to find and use space, other pin opposition for their teammates to move into and find them.
damn good comment, this! Thank you!
Really really good work, massive!
Recently discovered your channel and you are brilliant! You make it all so easy to understand. Would you be able to do a How to build a team around a Regista? Or to market it better, Create a Pirlo Team Tactic. I feel it will get a lot of views; as he was such a legendary creative player. I am currently trying this with Man Utd and using Beek, Ericksen, Mainoo and Gore as my rotating Registas! Its good fun to watch the midfield play so well! Just beat Real 3-2 in the last min!
Result! dominating the Real midfield is no mean feat!! And thats a great idea for a vid, I'll add it to my list - there's a couple more "basics" I want to cover first
One match that is quite memorable to me is when I play 4-4-1-1 against a hyper aggresive opponent and during the match I changed my TF/AM combo to TF/Treq. The opponent plays very aggresive gegenpressing and their transition is very dangerous. So I lower my defensive line and change AM-A to Treq. Then this happens: My TF receives a long ball from GK just a bit further from mid line and flick it on my Treq who is drifiting in the channel just behind the opposing DM. Since the opponents presses aggressively, one of their CD is occupied by my TF and my Treq make a run and take both their DM and the other CB to the side of penalty area. Then Treq slow down by cutting in to wait for TF to catch up then make a one two with him so that he is in better angle. Then my Treq scores.
Most beautiful piece I've seen but never been able to actually replicate just due to FM and the nature of Treq. This happens in FM22.
damn. Very, very cool!
Dude, these guides are excellent!
Hey, thanks!
Thank you for these great videos. I subscribed your channel and I will watch all of your videos from now. Keep it up bro 🤙🏻 and Merry Christmas
A very happy christmas to you too, glad you're liking my stuff!!
Nice one! Thanks mate! Keep it going :)
:D
Great video as always. I really hope you do video about 2 dm or 2 cm roles and combination.
coming very very soon!
Simple striker go in 5 categories 1 goal scorers AP and Poacher 2.connect striker TM Dlf 3.techical striker F9 and treqartista 4.press foward 5 Cf.
good way to look at it!
@@theavgdad i dont have problems with FM i am expirence player and want help
(AF + TF supp) + mixed cross = All around performance..
Love your videos, good and perfect explanation 😁 what is your opinion to solve the engine when you haven 30 shots 1/3/5 goals, and the oponent have 1 shot 1 goal 😂 thanks
Depends on so much bro, what is your preferred tactic and your teams level? If it is a consistent problem then have u got work ball into box selected? But then my league 1 teams tactic started with work ball into box and they weren’t technical enough to create enough chances, i deselected and now we’re top of the league. So for you, that may not be relevant, rather your tactic may not be creating chances in the best, high XG positions. It could be too wide, or too narrow cramping your space, you could not have enough players crashing the box. Maybe your squad building is lacking and you neglected enough goal getters
I like this game
I mean, sometimes you just gotta get FMed :p I think there's two questions here tho, how to hold onto a lead as the dominant side, and actually translate dominance into big wins. For me a basic start of the answer to both is to keep my players in a good mental state (general morale as well as frame of mind in match) and ensure the key players in the tactic aren't tired out. For my higher pressing team that generally means subbing out the midfielders and front-men on 60 practically every game. Complacent or nervous? Hooked, if shout doesn't work.
Dude, how do you know all this? Nice channel do, subscribe.
close to two decades of addiction :P
A F9 must be able to play as CAM in order to get good star
Very interesting. Could you tell me why in this years version my advanced forward doesn't get into advanced position very often? He scores mostly from crosses or cut backs, but i want my players to send him in behind the defence, but they are not often trying that although i have pass into space on. Is it because he's a lone striker and he's mostly against two defenders? I play with inverted wingers (1a, 1s) on the wing if that matters.
Also, he gets too often into aerial fights, which makes him drop to 6.5 or 6.4 (or a missed clear cut chance). It makes him pretty much depressed around half time and i have to sub him out again cause he will not recover from it. It's a bit frustrating. Thank you.
What's the rest of your tactic like? I find that's a big issue if you're a dominant team playing a high press, there's just no space in behind for what you want - could try and lure your opponents forward with a lower block and then hit them in behind?
What roles would you prefer for your wingers if you are playing with a pressing forward in attack duty? Inverted winger or winger?
Both work! Personally I like the inverted winger if it's just those two as a combo since they'll be closer to each other, but if you got another attacker coming in from behind into the box as well, like an AM or CMa, then I am kinda partial to a winger since he can cross or cut back - IW likes to shoot rather than cut back, for me at least
Thought the same, thank you very much! You are doing great job, appreciate it!
Brother knows his shit 🫶
Opinions on TF with P
imo it's a slightly sub par combo since both players are fairly static - so you'll need other players around them moving lateral. I prefer TFs/AFa honestly
@@theavgdad when is the consistent uploads coming back ?
Great videos. But what about central midfielders?
I'll get there very soon!
@@theavgdad thanks. You’re making great videos.
👍
Can you do something on team fluid if possible
Absolutely!
Whats the maradona role? He was kinda a trequartista and a shadow striker at the same time or something like that
good question! Imo he was basically a Treq, but with limited teamwork meaning he'd do more solo stuff
@@theavgdad yeh, I agree
Maradona was a roaming playmaker with complete freedom of movement. I saw him play on the pitch personally, from the sideline. When he ran or stroke the ball you couldn’t hear any noise, like it happens for most of the normal players. He came deep to get the ball and start the attack, dribbling or passing. He didn’t look to score personally. If he did, he would have scored more than Messi.
@@jjavalon wow, fantastic, thank you for the info! ye if he really wanted he could have win and score much more, but he just liked playing the game
What about a dlf on attack?
missed him, didn't I! It's really a more aggressive version of the DLFs, can be very cool since he'll get involved in play and then make runs from deeper positions more often.
@@theavgdad Can he work well as a lone striker or does he need a striking partner?
FIRST!!
Still waiting for the dm roles
they're next up, so stay tuned :D
