The dude is only explaining mentality, roles and some instructions, believe me when i tell you it's quite needed when you're starting a game like FM, He's not asking you to do this or that, these type of videos are really good for new people or beginners, I'm a veteran FM player and yet I find it very informative. I've recently played with a more short passing and attacking mentality and i realize from the data hub that I've got a high% of attempted direct passes. I also play a very high tempo.
    So I changed my mentality to more balanced and that helped cut the direct passess. I think in the previous FM versions, the bar moved according to mentality, but in this version it seems to be by a decimal or perhaps hidden.

  • @adityaudayanagolfvlogs1317
    @adityaudayanagolfvlogs1317 6 місяців тому

    I find that balanced is still the best mentality if you want to keep a low maintance plug and play sort of tactic. changing it to attack or defend will change the way the team pass and progress, which could effect passing accuracy and possesion. For example, if you're playing standard tempo and you put an attacking mentality, theres a good chance your players will use a more direct passing approach as well as a higher tempo than usual.

    Great video I just have one question. Isn't the Poacher the one who creates the space behind him cause he's always trying to push defensive line lower and beat the defenders? Or you moved Nunez to AF to allow more horizontal moevement, opening the space for Szoboszlai to run in?

    I really like the poacher here, it seems it's the role that pins the backline the most. would you say, a Pressing Forward does it the same way once the ball is in own possession? Or AF? Are they any different in where they lurk?

    You explain very well. I still struggling to read the match analysis during the half break or even before the match from the opposite side. Mostly, I win the game in the first half, and then the second half the opposite somehow break my tactics and they score more. How do I anticipate this?

    • @theavgdad
      @theavgdad  Рік тому +2

      Sounds like you're a bit vulnerable when sides attack you? Things I'd look at to anticipate are player fatigue in crucial roles (DMs, wingers who need to track overlaps, etc) and then potentially having a more defensive/possession setup for when you're winning/leading. I do it too, first step being going from a high press to a mid block and sometimes adding pass into space, everything else stays the same. Also try going for comprehensive/full match and see what you spot? Full match is underappreciated imo since you can then kinda see things unfold, how their players may be making untracked runs or overloads etc, so then you can make tweaks like CMa to B2B, MEZ to CAR, WBa to FBs and so on.

  • @bosqueSP
    @bosqueSP Рік тому +1

    Very interesting ideas! And explained with a lot of clarity. I was wondering how to adapt or translate this into a 4231. Maybe most of the roles stay the same and the MEZ/CMa is changed to a AMs/SS?

    • @theavgdad
      @theavgdad  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, that's definitely the way to do it imo, if you want to run the game from that particular area. Having said which, it'll depend if you're using a 4231DM or a 4231CM because of the space in the midfield. I kinda like the DM version with supporting roles, they link up quite nicely

    • @bosqueSP
      @bosqueSP Рік тому

      @@theavgdad Yes, definetly in the DM position!

    • @theavgdad
      @theavgdad  Рік тому +1

      Oops, missed this reply! Definitely would link all three midfielders with support duty then when trying to play a controlled/positive style, would bring them all closer together. The AM on attack duty, unless it's a Treq, will be haring away from the two DMs otherwise - which may be a good thing in a direct approach of course

    I play the game in German (one of the very few games that I do not play in English) and what I found very interesting is that in English one Mentality is called "Positive", which sounds very strange to me in that context because in German this Mentality is actually called "Controlled" in the game, which makes a lot of sense to me given the text you get when you select it. All other mentalities are 1:1 translations from English to German.
    Also, could you maybe talk about the difference between an Inside Winger and an Inside Forward? I have always been playing with IWs because the description of IFs do not really say what I'd like the players to do. But I see most people who make FM videos on YT use IFs and not IWs.

    • @theavgdad
      @theavgdad  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, it used to be called Control mentality in previous editions, but I think they switched it to Positive to reflect the Defensive->Attacking feel of the mentality scale, like going from -5 to +5 kinda thing. And sure, talking about roles and positions is absolutely something I have on my list, will be getting to it in the next week or so!

    Hi, your videos are great, I learn a lot from them! What is your opinion which roles works with certain mentality? For example, MEZ in balanced mentality is OK?

    • @theavgdad
      @theavgdad  9 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, but make sure to think through how many players are showing for the pass and how many are making crazy forward runs - and your team's base passing directness too. I'd be okay with a Mez in balanced of course, but only as long as there's two others minimum staying in the midfield and showing for the ball (assuming passing directness is not super high)

    what has become very frustrating for me in FM24 is that suddenly non of my strikers can score a goal. everyone else does, but not the strikers. In my last season i finished 5th with Augsburg (predicted 18) and my best scorer was the winger and a central defender while my best striker only scored 6 goals all season (4 of them were penalty kicks)

    • @theavgdad
      @theavgdad  Рік тому +1

      Wooh, 5th with Augsburg is awesome! What's your approach? Counters and set pieces? Absolutely get you about striker performance, and it's something I'll go into with my players roles video when I get to forwards, but what roles are you using? If they're not scoring it could be down to the players themselves (consistency/big matches) but also what their on-pitch movement is like. I've found Poacher, for example, to be an incredibly good role for striker supremacy because it keeps them super central - but it may affect your winger's goal numbers then since he won't play as many assisting passes or crosses.

    • @tombkingsethbattlechannel9419
      @tombkingsethbattlechannel9419 Рік тому

      well i tried to keep it simple. 4-2-3-1. 2 fullbacks, 2 central defenders in the mid, on of them on "vorstopper" (not sure what the english term is). roaming playmaker acompinied by a BWM. on the left side i played a inside forward on support and right side a winger on attack. OM on support and pressing forward in the center. instructions also very basic. plan was to high press and then play direct and fast. so medium passing speed and directnes. no further instructions asides "go for set pieces" and "play from the back". but my team scored the most goals via set pieces in the entire league^^ @@theavgdad

    Work ball into box : Use it mostly if you don´t have an aerial threat and of course remember to switch to low crosses. Otherwise stick to the default.
    Positive/Attacking mentality is what the video explains.
    Another tip is to switch to "over the top" balls when in transition if you have a fast striker and the opposing team is battering you with shots.

    I only use defensive or cautious, the game has become a bit to easy of late dare i say it arcadey. So i have to implement my own restrictions to try and make it interesting to play. Im starting to consider that this could be the beginning of the end for FM. Nothing lasts for ever and i think the door is becoming open for a new Football manger game to take the crown. I think its kind of beginning to lose its way a little.

    • @theavgdad
      @theavgdad  Рік тому

      That's totally fair! Got any tips for playing on Cautious and Defensive? :D Personally I rarely ever stay with big teams for more than two seasons, always end up going down the league and taking on weird and wacky saves, keeps it fun!

    • @boomshanka4667
      @boomshanka4667 Рік тому

      @@theavgdad I find on cautious and defensive obviously a low or even a mid block plus pressing less often is really good to stay more compact. But the key for me is setting your tempo as high as possible and you passing more direct( this does not mean aimless long balls, it just means getting it fwd faster) Also when you start to understand it, individually adjust players passing within the system. Your more advanced attackers keep it short for starters, you have a creative midfielder give him direct or standard but his partner keep short(little things like that, hard to tell as its your team and formation) But the counter attacking goals are insane when you get it. Obviously also getting your press trigger correct is key . i trap inside tight mark wide players press central(never more than two triggers , best is one trigger but can vary a little) never trigger press works wonders on certain players also.

    In the new FM balanced mentality works better for me, then switching to attacking if 60 mins in we are dominating the game but have not scored yet. I had a save with a positive mentality, 3 seasons with Manchester united I had only won a carabo cup, scored plenty but conceded about one a game. I started a new save with a balanced mentality, 2 seasons in one premier league, two champions leagues, one carabo cup not scoring as much but conceeding about half a goal a game. I use 4-2-3-1 balanced, play out of defence, wokr ball into box, shorter passing, slighty slower tempo, counter attack, high line, mid press, press more often. I have penty of possession in games, score a lot, and have the best defence. 3rd season in and flying.

    • @theavgdad
      @theavgdad  Рік тому
