Any brand can dethrone samsung - the bugs and subwoofers now are horrendous.
I’m in Australia and bought it yesterday looking for some thumping bass but a bit disappointed so far unless I’m missing something. Bass at level 5 with EQ at max bass.
32 is max volume and you start to feel the bass at around 24.
Basically upto vol at 20 it sound a bit flat.
Any suggestions on EQ or other setting?
For comparison, tried Bose 900 with 700 bass module where bass can be felt even at lower volumes.

I am from India and I listen to lot of Indian songs. I see that jbl 9.1 mids and trebles are not so effective in Indian songs. Will it be worthy of an upgrade to 1000 ?

@@malcolmmonserrate5179 as you're not forcing a certain bitrate to be used but rather letting whatever the source is do its thing. ie. if you have Atmos, Auto will pick that up, but if you set it to PCM (lowest quality), you'll never get the higher quality metadata.
the main selling point for this sound bar are the wireless detachable rear speakers. what other alternatives are there that have this feature?

@@carloschavez-vk4by sorry, I'm not sure why I missed that fact. Indeed, all of the alternatives do have a wire. But some, like the HK 1100 will have speaker surrounds (same with Sonos for example). But they aren't officially part of the soundbar system, if that makes sense?
The only other one I can think of though, is ironically the JBL 1300/1300X.

You definitely don't want to be integrating a soundbar with upward firing drivers into a cabinet or wall!

Good video thanks. I have money for bar 800.. not for 1000. Bar 800 has no dts codec. I watch 4K netflix and 4k blu ray. Will no dts codec be a problem. Anyone can answer please?
If it have Dolby Atmos you don't need DTS. 🤷🏻♂️
Can you confirm the 3 HDMI in ports are HDMI 2.1? Have you tested it with an Xbox Series X or a PS5 at 4K@120Hz with HDR and VRR?
I've not tested it myself as I don't game on console, but I've been told by JBL that all ports are 2.1 - I asked the question directly to them, as there was no info that I could find online.
@@TotallydubbedHD Thanks for the reply. I hope someone will put this claim to the test though, as I think for a lot of people it could be a crucial criteria if the soundbar could become their media hub, instead of their tv. Especially for LG TV owners who can't get DTS:X passthrough with their tv.

Please see the comments below, there is even a link to a video where XSX shows that the 4k/120HZ pass-through doesn't work. See the JBL BAR 1000 thread on avforums, there is also everything described exactly what signals can be pass-through. 4K/120HZ definitely doesn't work. I have this soundbar and I checked everything thoroughly. If anyone thinks otherwise, please prove it. Max signal in 120HZ pass-through is 1080p with VRR and 1440p without VRR. This information is also confirmed by official JBL support. 4k/120HZ is only possible in configuration . Console > TV > Soundbar configuration

I bought this on a decent sale at Best Buy. Got it home and struggled with the JBL One app. No matter what I did it would not connect. I tried everything on the JBL site for troubleshooting. After frustration with my Samsung flip 5 phone I tried with my wifes IPhone X. It was no go. I just ended up returning it. Why these sound bar makers don't just include all settings on the remote and be done with these phone apps, I don't know.
Weird that you had problems. My advice would have been to do a full factory reset, in case it was previously used by someone else - I've had that issue before too, but understandably it's only going to happen to used products, so not really relevant to those buying it new.
@@TotallydubbedHD Yes I did the factory reset thing a couple times. As I said, I followed all the troubleshooting tips on the JBL site. Any I returned it. It sounded good but I wasn't that impressed. Next week I'm going to pick up the Samsung Q990c and give that a try.

JBL 1000 pro or Philips Fidelio b97/10 wchich one ???? I have a JBL 5.1 and it only loads with bass, it lacks subtlety and detail when I want something heavier to listen to. The satellites at the back are too quiet for me. 😑

If my room has 22 foot high ceilings, is the upangle speakers useless? Do they need a lower ceiling to work effectively?
Very high ceilings will be an issue for upward firing speakers, yes. Just think of how sound travels.
@@TotallydubbedHD The real question is what kind of issue? Will it just not be effective and not noticeable? Or will it be delayed enough that it will mess up the sound that is hitting my ears directly. Direct sound would only travel 10 feet from the front speakers and maybe 4 feet from the rear speakers to reach me. The upfiring sound waves would travel about 40 feet (20 feet up, 20 feet down). at 767 mph, what is the impact to a listener?
@@douglass1221 I don't have first hand experience as I don't have really high ceilings, but naturally the sound won't be as involving and if there's no room calibration, it might also sound delayed/off.
Great review...thanks...i have a question pls. I heard someone say that if your tv has ARC but no ATMOS sound, the rear speakers will have no sound! Is that so? And if you do have sound, will it be in atmos effect? Thanks
That's incorrect, even over regular Dolby Digital (terrestrial TV) you'll have the rear speakers in operation - of course, when in the right sound mode. But no, it won't be the Atmos effect, that'll only be the case with the right signal (ie Atmos metadata).

So basically my tv has ARC but no atmos but i have the full NETFIX bundle that transmits Atmos if you tv supports it, will i have Atmos coming out of the soundbar if NEXFLIX is transmitting Atmos although my tv does not support it? If not, is it worth buying the soundbar jbl 1000 if your tv does not have Atmos?
@@michaelmock4587 so if your TV doesn't support Atmos, then unfortunately just like me, the only way to really benefit from Atmos etc is to use a 4k Blu-ray player and have that connected to the soundbar via HDMI IN, which in your case isn't going to work as you're watching via Netflix.
To answer your question: the 1000 is inferior in a few ways over the 1300, regardless if you have access to Atmos or not. So, that's up to you to decide!
So the bluetooth is bad? I was thinking of buying a projector instead of tv and mainly use bluetooth for connection. Is this a bad idea?
Yup, in pretty much every soundbar I've reviewed it's a massively degraded experience (let alone latency).

As for the placement, it could be fine but would depend on the soundbar in question.
Sound bars are so frustrating for me. I found that either they stupidly only have an HDMI ARC input and no "regular" input to hook up my Oppo 205 (I'm looking at you Deviolet!).. or require use of their crappy included subwoofers.. or have huge rear speakers I have no room for. I have a state-of-the-art dual 10 sub table that I would be using...so it would be nice to find a quality all-in-one soundbar with good sound for the main audio range that allows use of that.
Off the top of your head, do you know which soundbars you reviewed or are aware of that allow connection to my OWN device? I know both Sennheiser models offer that along with I believe a Denon and maybe a Yamaha...but that's all I can think of.
Maybe I'll just put a second mortgage on my house and pick up a B&O Theater. You need to get that one in for reviews :-)
Yup, those are the ones that come to mind and frankly if you have a sub, I'd truly suggest getting the beafy Sennheiser model. It'll blow everything out of the water.
Not tried that B&O, but basing my experiences of the Stage, it'll have to be a truly remarkable experience vs the Sennheiser to get any sort of recommendation from my part (especially for the price!)

I read your two reviews between the Max and the Plus, and everything you bought it on the max you seem to imply they let you down on the plus ( namely mid-range quality). I would really have to work some magic with my current TV and audio rack situation to handle that Max but may be worth the trouble. Obvious just I'm looking at it it's going to be much more potent than the plus.
Yeah for obvious reasons, I really want to re-use this that I got for a closeout price of about a grand...to match my front speakers:

Yes definitely. Two more up firing speakers and two more side firing speakers in the Bar 1000. Also Bar 800 doesn't have DTS X codec, which many people on UA-cam fail to mention !
When you play non Dolby Atmos content for example watching TV or UA-cam videos or play mp3 music. There's no sound coming out from those rear speakers at all. Is that true?
Depends on your setting you've set - in my case, they were always in use no matter the content being played!

Depends on the signal - upscaled on stereo, surround on 5.1/Atmos content; at least that's the way I've experienced it!

800c with rears is very similar to the Bar 1000.
@@TotallydubbedHD I went with the 800c! I figured it’s better for me being that I’m a huge movie guy and will almost never have need of separating and putting back together the Jbl soundbar pieces. Also from what you say in your videos, the Samsung has a better stage scape sound or something like that.

Yes because it has more rear speakers
Careful to check those HDMI pass through ports think 9.1 supports 60hz 4k. JBL 1000 120hz 4k. So if your running ps5 or next gen consoles you might have a problem with JBL 9.1

@@cordcuttercam nah me neither really just one of those things which either its critical to the individual as of right now if they are a gamer. Still think its a notable consideration for futureproofing, which is why you spend the extra really. The extra HDMIs on the 1000 are nice too makes it a central hub unit.

I just bought the Samsung 990 and it sound flat and bad. I returned it and continued to use my old Harman AVR with 5.1 system. What a pitty, that a good AVR costs the same like a good soundbar...
Maybe you had something not setup correctly? Shouldn't have sounded flat nor bad lol
@TotallydubbedHD Not Sure. I adjusted everything according recriminations and tried different setups. Maybe got a bad system. However, my 5.1 AVR system seems to be sufficient, only lacks Atmos.

Agree...I don't know how reviewers rate Samsung sound bar so high...it never pleased my ears...They make great TV and phone but definitely not great sound bar...
@@ag564 they're the best sounding systems out there for regular consumers. Of course there are better sounding bars but they're more expensive or don't come with a sub.

I bought JBL 9.1 2 years ago. I was thinking if there is a significant upgrade from Bar 1000 because I prefer to have HDMI 2.1 for gaming. Is it worth to upgrade or should I wait for something like Samsung Q990C? (Sony soundbars have HDMI 2.1 but they are too expensive)
I'd personally wait/save up if you've already got the 9.1

So I am confused in between Samsung q990b and JBL 1000 bar. Mainly into movies, shows and games (playstation/xbox). TV is LGs oled.
The price difference is not much so that is not an issue...

Stay away from Samsung sound bar...go for Sony, Sennheiser or Bose if budget permits or stick to JBL
@@TotallydubbedHD yes I did and also checked your samsung review. From the looks of it...samsung is better than jbl bar 1000. Correct me if I am wrong but samsung did sound better than bose 900 bar too.
@@ag564 i have already tested bose bar 900 (max my budget) and I found samsung and jbl to be better as an overall experience for that price.
It is either jbl or samsung but by the reviews...samsung q990b beats jbl bar 1000 easily.

@@TotallydubbedHD I have this soundbar and I checked all configurations thoroughly. Unfortunately, the soundbar in 120 Hz pass through max 1080p with VRR, ALLM, HDR , without VRR 1440P. / 120Hz HDR.
