Emily Rudd is so great as Nami. The work she does in this series is so good. Her character is the one that requires a more subtle performance, and she does some really great work with her eyes.

He encouraged Coby to stop doubting himself and tell him his dream and clearly recognized alvida's cruelty.. Luffy is the last person I would describe as complacent.

Luffy's actions I don't have a problem with, but his attitude and approach to things can be problematic like him thinking he would get a ship just by talking to the owner without paying a dime. And he calls himself a pirate without thinking of the repercussions, since pirates are seen mostly as thieves and killers.

Usopp is a play on the name of the Greek fabulist and storyteller Aesop known for the Aesop fables which includes The Boy Who Cried Wolf. Alao Uso in Japanese does mean " lie " and Usopp is both a lier and storyteller.
The game us called "Go" and it's considered more complicated than chess to master. I used to play some back in college, it's super fun.
It makes me sad how so few ppl seem to know Go, even among the anime fans. Hikaru no Go needs a reboot.

One of my favorite added scenes is the moment between Kaya and Nami.
Kaya’s mansion is probably one of my favorite sets. It’s got this whole Alice in Wonderland vibe to it.
It’s funny, when I watched the anime and saw Kuro for the first time I immediately went “this dude looks like a villain” and lo and behold. Glad they kept that vibe for the live action.

Also, on Garp. The LA does make him seem a little unhinged. In the anime he’s more oblivious and just a little weird.

One of the things that gets brought up through the series is that Luffy needs his crew because they can do things he can't do (or can't do well). Like Nami navigating because Luffy would just drift at sea without her.
So you picking up on Luffy being positive to a fault because he'll just announce being a pirate is very purposeful. Like we saw when he and Nami encountered Axe-hand in the first episode - Luffy is a horrible liar.
But who is wonderful at telling tall tales? Usopp.
I like how you view Nami and how she's getting her believes challenged, slowly slowly. How Luffy too his own deprication, stays true too his believes and values no matter what.

Over 20 years of One Piece and every single time he can picks up the snail phone or meets someone new he says "I'm Monkey D. Luffy, and I'm gonna be king of the pirates" no matter the situation or person.
Zoro was actually called Zolo in the original english release of the series (and is still called Zolo in the official manga translation to this day) because the rightsholders for The Legend of Zorro are *insanely* litigious and actually threatened to sue. Presumably Netflix is big enough that they can actually stand up and say 'bring us to court over it, see what happens', but a small little manga publisher in the 90s just avoided the problem entirely.
I have been a One Piece fan since it first came out, and I have never finished an episode without thinking: "No, I wanted more!"

They didn’t go into detail in the live action, but if you want to know why Buggy hated Shanks in the anime, it’s because when he first got his hands on his devil fruit, he was planning on selling it instead of eating it, so he could get rich enough to make his own crew. But through some shenanigans, he ended up hiding the fruit in his mouth, then Shanks startled him and made him accidentally swallow it and drop a treasure map he stole into the ocean. So it was pretty much an accident, but Buggy still holds a grudge against him for it
The guy with Garp with the fedora is the equivalent of the X.O. of the ship. Bogard

You actually see the butlers name in Axehand Morgans safe. Hinting at him and how Zoro recognizes him but can’t quite remember his face. The little details in this show are great

They did change the telepathic "Snail phones" from the comics and Anime. they are supposed to take on the appearance of whoever is on the other end of the line, so you can "See" who's calling. In the live action, they made them take on the appearance of their owners.

he never really does anything, he just stands next to Garp all the time. but since Garp is a pretty well respected and powerful Marine, it stands to reason that Bogard, as his right hand, is also pretty strong.

You know Angela, you pointing out that Usopp was looking for pirates suddenly clicked the switch for me: his spit-take wasn’t because they blew the first impression at dinner with Kaya, they actually hadn’t *told him yet* so it was shocking on multiple levels for him… No really, I actually missed that after like a dozen reactions; it’s so easy to miss the little details when you’re aware of who everyone is and what their deal is, but omissions can be deliberate. And it really helps in foreshadowing his backstory, along with his surprise to be meeting someone that knows his dad Yasopp.
As for Buggy, it’s a pretty great way of showing the hierarchy of power when Arlong’s lieutenant lays him out in one hit, not even knocking his head loose but actually braining him… before you even meet Arlong himself, and his intimidating look and higher bounty.
For recollection, Alvida was 5 million Berry, then Buggy was 15 mil and Kuro was 16… But Arlong has 20 million on his head, the highest in the East Blue. Even scarier though? The other three seas have pirates *far higher* in bounty and notoriety than the East!

Emily Rudd (Nami's actress) is a long-time fan of "One Piece". This role was a labour of love for her, and it shows in her performance.
Luffy's charisma is indeed something like a second superpower for him. It's an important aspect of his personality, and has a big part to play throughout the story.
And if you think there's been too much 'nosing' going on in this version, you don't want to watch the original anime! They had to downplay it for the live action, but Usopp's nose was ridiculously long -- the author meant it to remind readers of Pinocchio.

Garp is definitely not your typical Marine Vice Admiral. :D I'd love to tell you some of his history and relationships with so many characters, but there would be massive spoilers for likely upcoming story lines. Maybe the best comparison I can offer is Cot Liam Shaw from Star Trek Picard season 3. You don't like him to begin with but you grow to love the guy by the end of the series, having learned more about why he is the way he is.
Claw UH Door is how you say the butlers name kinda how he kept it close to his pirate crews theme.
Luffy's greatest strength is that he lives so freely that he inspires others to try to be that free.
The guy following Garp is named Bogard. And as for what he does/what his deal is? Your guess is as good as ours haha. He's Garp's right hand man and that's about all we know. He just sort of, exists.

The Going Merry is a bit weird in the live action, but the manga/anime version is just the sweetest little thing ever
A bit weird, but it is just a part of the real life transition. You can't use the cartoonie style for a ship figurehead in the real world; it would look plain weird. Besides, this way Merry fits in better with the frankensnails of horror that the LA blessed us with. xD

So as a 20-year SCUBA diver who swims with sharks - my understanding was always that Arlong’s nose was based on carpenter sharks, also known as sawfish (wiki link: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sawfish). I could be wrong, but I’ve been diving with a pair of 14-foot carpenter sharks before, and their snouts 10000% match Arlong’s.

That is exactly why when One Piece originally aired in the US they changed his name to Zollo. They didnt want to have another Swordsman with the same name cus “that would confuse people” 😒
the other thing is that if japanese is transliterated into english, whether the l or r is used is pretty much random because they are the same sound in japanese. until there is official transliteriation it can go either way. in addition it is not always consistent. another great example is Raftel that later evolved into Laugh Tale. or Kulilin from dragon ball becoming Kuririn later.
also, zoro's family name should be spelled lolonoa in english to be more linked to what it is inspired from. the main character's name could be ruffy either

Funny you say that at 31:35. In the manga Zoro's name is written as "Zolo" in the official English translation because they were afraid of potential copyright issues with Zorro, and while clearly that isn't an issue here they kept it like that for so long they can't exactly go back and change it.
Syrup Village received a lot of changes from the original version, but I think it mostly works by turning things into a slasher movie, and it was nice to see Nami and Kaya interact since that didn't really happen in the manga as much. Excited for the next upload!

While we didn't see Kuro before like you were thinking, we have seen his name if you pay close attention when they open the safe containing the map to the Grand Line. There's a rolled up wanted poster that we can only see his name on.
After binging the show I started watching the anime (at my own pace, a few episodes a week and a binge session here and there). I'm around 400 episodes in and loving it more and more with every arc I finish. I never got into other legendary animes like Bleach or Naruto but the storytelling in One Piece is absolutely stellar. If it get's any better it's gonna break into my top 3 of all time. Over 1000 episodes sounds like a big deal but so far it is very worth the effort.
