My bathroom makeover in my new home is officially complete and it's now my favourite room in my house! If you don't know, I bought a house that I have been completely renovating for the past year, documenting the process along the way on my series Making Home. Now that the renovations are almost complete, I've started designing, decorating and finishing the spaces in my house room-by-room. In this episode, I took on making my bathroom completely custom and turning it into a spa-like experience complete with brass & matte black accents, mid-century modern decor, a sage green clawfoot tub, TONS of plants and a few DIYs thrown in! Thank you to Delta for being my fixture sponsor and to Benjamin Moore for being my paint sponsor.

No one:
Kelsey's bath tub: o o
O
Hahahaha ♥️
It seemed quite shocked about the whole transformation.
It reminded me of Coco from animal crossing
The real amount of time spent on making home can be witnessed in how long Kelsey's hair has become since the start^^
I was thinking the exact same thing!!😂
We
Love this...great job! Hope you make a scrapbook and add making home to your portfolio
Ahahah I was thinking just the same!!!
Yeeeees!!
I wouldn’t move the lights. They will end up being too close to the closet and shower glass.
Kelsey, instead moving the lights, would you consider switching out the mirror you installed for a round mirror? The placement of the light fixtures would look better with a round mirror, and swapping out the mirror would also be less expensive than moving the fixtures. You can always find another spot in your house to hang the existing mirror.
Liz Kennedy that mirror is beautiful but I see what you’re saying to save on the costs 🤣 you could even get two walnut round mirrors side by side
@@lizk1780 I was also thinking that a rounded mirror (similar to the IKEA one she showed) would break up the existing rectangular shape of the vanity
😍 Oh my! The bathroom of dreams! Also did anyone see Kelsey throw down the bulbs 🤣 no wonder one was broken
@@lizk1780 Agreed. The walnut mirror looked nice, but so did the oval mirror that was about 1/8th the price!!! She's spending a lot on details, even though I get why certain things might nag at her, as a designer myself.
Don't move the lights, I would just get a fixture that's more flush with the ceiling. $575 is NOT worth it.
I agree 100%
I agree -- those lights are pretty but that's the wrong place for them. They are too long vertically.
@@TamarLitvot Yes, and I would hate their glare in the mirror 's reflection first thing in the morning.. Or any time of the day really
I came in here to say the same thing
Agreed
I'm gonna be honest: when you first showed us your unfinished home and said you were going to live in the basement, I was like "what is she thinking??" Clearly, this is why you're the professional LMAO. This bathroom is EPIC, you clearly saw the potential that my uneducated ass did not. This is so impressive, and I've been LIVING for this whole series.
I love love love what you did with this bathroom, you are Very creative and resourceful. Consider me a new subscriber!
Honestly that light fixture just feels too low, it interrupts the beautiful clean line of the mirror. It would be much cheaper and I think probably look better to find a different fixture.
I agree with you, not a fan of the light fixtures :/
i agree 100%
I think the built in lights that are in the ceiling would look/function great over the mirror as well.
I also suggested changing the lights :) way cheaper.
Agreed!
I would leave the light like that...It wouldn't be 'even' (i think) when you change it. Also... Its a lot of money. I would keep it like this atm, if it REALLY bothers you in the future, you will still be able to change it! Maybe it doesn't bother you as much as you think :)
I totally agree, Rainy. :)
I wouldn't put any lights up as detracts from mirror - there's already spotlights & sHoWeR LiGhTs & a bath light! 💗
@@kateellenberry It's always helpful to have lights right over the vanity, though. :)
I would just get new shorter light fixtures over the mirror
@@jemma50 true 🤔 maybe a long thin horizontal crazy-bright one that you would only use for doing make up. Just thought the original shot of the mirror when it was first installed made bathroom look so big & then putting something either side could close it in again a bit xx
As for the frosted window, you can poke the bubble using needle then push out the air using card. Easy trick
I've tried that with the vinyl on my countertop and it doesn't fix it :(
@@HeatherCashArt i tried before for my window and it works just fine. I think it depends on the window film type i guess
Have put up lots of window frosting. The needle poke is the best thing ever. Use that trick on any peel and stick things.
I do vinyl decals at work all the time. It helps if you start from the middle & work your way out instead of top to bottom or vice versa
Yes it does work lol my husband made me help him vinyl his race car let's say that's some arm holding exercise 💪
I was SO excited to hear about the idea of a database so that we can buy from places that aren't Amazon! I love that idea!!! :)
Open shower always give me cold chills. I like a shower to have walls and a door to keep inside the warm in winter. Besides this practical thing, I really like this bathroom.
This is honestly been the best UA-cam series I’ve EVER watched😍
genuinely !
KELSEY!! Get that black mirror back and install that instead, the lights will feel a lot better. Since it’s not as long as the other one :) Easy cheap fix!!
yes! I loved how the oval mirror worked with the oval-ish light over her tub!
It would actually be too much oval and too much black in one space. With the bathroom already being white, I feel that the wood and its tones helps to dress it warmly. Which you will be super happy about when fall, winter, leaves, and snow come into play and everything outside feels gloomy. Trust me.
Kathy C. I respectfully disagree! I don’t think so at all! will match the black accents more and creative a visual gap and balance. There’s only one oval shape, the mirror will not be too much. As an interior designer myself, it’s very easy for me to visualize it :)
Same thoughts!
I thought the same thing, plus I thought it looked nicer too. The black with the finishes of the fixtures, I was surprised she went with the wood one.
The only series in the entirety of UA-cam, that I eagerly wait upon. Like how, now I am desperately waiting for the next episode. Loved how it turned out Kelsey and you have come such a long way. This was my second ever UA-cam channel that I subscribed to back in 2015. Can't wait for you guys to hit 2M. Lots of love from India.
Honestly, the lights are lined up perfectly with the mirror, which the little bit of OCD that I have LOVES, and as long as you don't hit your head, I'd leave them as they are. 😊
This is one of my favorite series!!! The other is Becky’s random DIYs around her house!! Y’all make me so excited to FINALLY get a house. 😊
Let me just say that I'm thoroughly enjoying this series! Thank you for sharing your journey with us! About the light placement... please feel free to hit me with a broken bulb for even saying it but maaaaybe the issue with the lights is not their placement but the fact that they are a bit too large for that particular setup? Also if they keep bothering you it might be cheaper to simply swap out the lights for something smaller rather than moving the connection points. I know how renovations can be physically and mentally demanding - been through a few myself. What I've learned is that sometimes simple (and efficient) solutions might get lost in the sea of choices you are making every day. Then you need to step back, maybe have a little "photoshop-aided-meditative-thinkover" and then make the expensive changes you feel 100% confident about.
I agree. I love the light fixture (I'm actually planning to buy it for my hallway!) but I don't love the usage in this space.
I agree that the light fixtures are a little large for the space. It would really bother me to be able to see the bottom of the lights in the mirror.
@@hannahelzm Yeah, i think those light fixtures are more meant for hallways.
i 100% agree with you!! the lights are beautiful but i just feel like there’s a better fit
just wanted to say i'm SO proud of you Kelsey, i've been a viewer since 2013 and it's amazing to see how far you've grown and all these new amazing spaces you've left your personal touches on. This new home is so exciting and beautiful (even unfinished!) and this series has been such a great inspiration to me who is also going through renos in my own home!! all love, can't wait for the next ep!
I’ve been waiting for this video for a long time
Me tooooo!!! 🙌
Long long time indeed
Yes. And it was worth it.
We’ve all been😍
Same here
I would just get smaller lights. If the placement bothers you.
OM Goodness! Kelsey, this might be my favourite space that you've worked on! I love how everything turned out! The bath paint colour "chef's kiss", the trays are beautiful and practical and tie in with the warmth of the vanity and your mirror choice, the matte black finishes with the pops of brass, stunning, and the plants are like the cherry on top 😍
Bubble removing tip: you can pierce with tiny pin and rub to get rid of bubbles. It works everytime.
Yes, works for wallpaper, too.
You can poke the bubbles in the film with a needle or something and flat it down....it looks like nothing happened .
Windows need to be VERY wet..Also first use a piece of cloth and only after the credit card, if you catch the bubble too harsh with the card you might get rid of the bubble but get a forever wrinkle…
Genius idea
or use heat!
Yes! This is the best way to get rid of bubbles. You just need to poke it to let the air out and it smoothes down completely
pro tip: Put a small amount of dish-soap in the water, then wet the window AND the foil. :)
Choked on my coffee when Kelsey tried to prune that Peace Lily with her foot omgggggg hahaha
LEGIT DID THE SAME THING. Came out my nose 😂
Honestly I feel like even if you move the lights over they still would feel too big. Why not just keep the recess lighting you have already?
😣Sorry, however well done, recess lighting is not enough. Every bathroom vanity needs a special light fixture. That's just how it's done properly. 🦋
Recessed downlights are not great over a vanity. They cause the most unflattering shadows. But I agree that the lights chosen don’t look right at all. Would probable be better with something to match the one over the bath.
The lighting changes the whole vibe💕💕
Girl, THE VISION you had for this! I was kind of skeptical when you first moved in on how good could it actually turn out (because of the space)... BUT IM SHOOOOOOOOK
For the sconces above the vanity: before you installed them, i thought they were going to look so off, but actually they look nice and symmetrical inside the mirror but they do look nice and normal!! If the light is bothering you while brushing your teeth, the maybe you can go for smaller globes rather than paying so much for the contractor to move them
1. I didn't even notice Kelsey had no makeup until she mentioned it. She looks so beautiful!
2. This episode is sooo good. The whole series is tbh 😍😄
Literally bathroom of my dreams. Every single thing is perfect.
One of the things I love about this channel is the resourcefulness and the Eco consciousness in the designs. I love how you want to rely less on amazon and large corporations, and you care about light bulbs that are less harmful for the environment.
The window film is easier to apply if u add a tiny amount of liquid soap to the water. It acts as a surfactant, so the water squeegees out better, which helps prevent bubbles. 😉👍🏽
Also you can use a needle to pop the bubbles in the middle of the film! It releases the air and makes it looks so much better
😉Brilliant tips!!!👏
Bathrooms are my secret fave type of interiors 😂
same! cause they are so difficult to style and it's satisfying that people make it look seamless
Oh em gee! Who knew a bathroom could be so stunning! Such a vibe, what a journey to get to this point 👏🏻🙌🏻💕
mirror for real doesn't even need those lights, sis you've got so many in there already
i think she should have go to those vanity mirror with light bulbs on the sides of the mirror
I dunno queen being in a basement makes me want ALL THE MIRRORS you know
Dani Clair yeah it’s not the mirror that’s extra it’s the lights
I love it. You could always get new lamps for above the mirror that are L-shaped and can be moved to the side if they bother you. Everything is just stunning.
I would personally rather get different light fixtures than pay hundreds to move the lights. but thats just me...
Kelsey, leave the light where they are. They look good there. Don't spend the money for it.
When I saw that this video was a half an hour long, I was so happy! The more Sorry Girls, the better!
I looooove the light fixtures juxtaposing, so much that I didn't realize at first that you wanted them further apart, I thought you meant aligned to the middle of each drawer sections. I think they are perfect where they are. Layering really makes designs feel bold and luxurious, especially since they are so retro and big, while the mirror is sleek and simple. I hope this comment helps you love it too! :)
I can't get over how good that tile choice was!
Lee valley is amazing for hardware like hooks and cabinet pulls! and they are an awesome Canadian company with good business practices. Great place for stocking stuffers too.
I concur...Lee Valley is my favourite place to shop (after Ikea) :). Check them out and you will be AMAZED at what they offer!!!
All the cabinet/ door pulls/ hardware are from Lee valley! Smart for hooks too
Soooo....do they sell to North America also?
@@She.Follows.The.Sun. look like they do. I'm in the market for cabinet pulls, too, and they have a US site!
Lee valley is the best! I have gotten so many smart kitchen/home items there that are so thoughtfully engineered.
I really appreciate that you're very detail oriented and particular about every single aspect in the room. I can totally relate. The fact that you're wanting to move the light fixtures over by even a few inches is totally something that I would do too. Some people might stay that I'm being too much of a perfectionist, but I say that if it's something that I'm going to see everyday and be bothered by it, then it's worth the effort and money (within reason) to change it.
I love this series and your bathroom is gorgeous!! I can't wait to see how you'll decorate the rest of the house.
Lol when Kelsey was like “am I okay?!” Ohhhh thats what I’m like when I have to much coffee...🤪😉😬
Finally very purposeful diys that are 100% satisfying when they work !
She’s so confident on the phone, my social anxiety could never
I thought the same !
Same!!! She's probably used to it tho from all the stuff they buy for diys
I thought that too!!!!
omg that was my first thought! Glad to know I'm not alone at least.
Yes! I stutter, lose my train of thought... one time I even choked on my saliva, couldn't stop coughing and just hung up. I HATE talking on the phone.
"Mirror" the tub shape, oval mirror all the way
I love the idea of a database! Specifically, one that has a section for Canadian stores.
I feel like I would try out different light fixtures for over the vanity before paying that much to move the sockets. Like fixtures that are long and skinny above the mirror@
Turned out great! One suggestion--put the light over the tub on a dimmer switch. Hubs did that for me and it's the best!
LOVE the sage green! Blends with the plants beautifully!
I looove this series! I can’t wait to see the whole thing! 😍
This is unreal. This bathroom design and style makes my heart so happy! Kesley, you are so amazing and creative!
The idea is from Pinterest, she just copied the design. But overall it's so beautiful
That sage green is my dream bathroom accent color! Actually your whole bathroom is my dream bathroom, love it!
Was so excited for this! I love it but please tell me you’re not keeping that tiny bath mat!! You need a longer Turkish rug the same length as the vanity!! Bring in some more beautiful colour cx
For the frosted lamented stuff, if you prick it with a needle and then run your smoother tool over it the bubbles disappear like magic. Works every time.
Absolutely love everything! It looks gorgeous. I’d leave the vanity lights where they are- the fact that they overlap with the mirror feels more dynamic and interesting than aligned with the edges of the mirror- gives that area of the room more dimension 👍🏻👍🏻 your design Kelsey overall is totally stunning. You can tell how much hard work went into the space.
Couldn't agree more! I LOVE those lights where they are - they add so much glamour to an already beautiful space!
Just a tip, when you put frosting on a window or Glas put some dish soap in the water you spay on. Easy to move and easier to remove all bubbles
I agree the vanity lights could be wider but if they're moved the one on the left would be right against the wall to be symmetrical-looking for shallower lights that don't overlap the mirror would be better and then those sconces could be bedside ceiling lamps 👌
A fern or ivy plant would looooove the humidity in your bathroom! You could hang them too! Just my thoughts but I love the plants you have there already! Thanks for taking us on this fun journey, it's so cool to see you make it your own
I’m obsessed with this bathroom! It has such a nice serene vibe!!
You've introduced me to Swiss cheese monsteras and I'm in love!
Same! 🙂
I can't have one cause we have cats. :C no monstera life for me
Heather M I’ve been admiring them for awhile but a hanging basket about the size in this video run about $35-$40 where I live. 😅
Malayka I hear ya. I just bought an 8” hanging one for $45 from a local grower. But, she’s a beaut 🙌
Heather M oh I bet. 🌱😍 $35-45 doesn’t seem too bad when you’ve been admiring them for awhile and buy local.
It looks amazing :D I would leave the lights the way they are, it's a lot of money for such a small change in my opinion :o
This series is convincing me more and more to buy my own house and renovating it to my liking in the future! I love so much, how you turned a simple basement into a cosy home for you, even though everybody was like "why is she doing this?" And I think the lights in the ceiling and on the walls balance out the small window (and therefore the lack of natural light) quite nicely. :)
Finally figured out why I have become hooked watching these- you sound/talk just like my best friend. Including busting into song with random sentences. That aren’t lyrical at all. Lol - love all of these!!! You did amazing work!
Kelsey is honestly stunning!
Kelsey its really beautiful! One of the features that sold me on my home was that the sellers put a dresser and copper sink in the downstairs half bath.
LOVE THE LOOK!! Also: love you guys for trying to actively chose small businesses over Amazon! Not gonna go on a rant about why I hate Amazon cause just supporting small businesses is the best goal ever. You guys are such great role models whether you know it or not ❤
THAT POCKET DOOR IS A DREAM
That moving the light edit just 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽 wow amazing
I rarely leave comments, but I just wanna say I really enjoyed your witty comments and making obstacles during makeovers feel a lot more human 😅 / love from Sweden

The scratch on kelseys back: 👁👄👁
The most aesthetic and comfortable bathroom ever.
So proud of the job you've done, Kels. 💕
Kelsey: only one more thing to do
Me: oh fix the drawers?
Kelsey: final touches!
What's the problem with the drawers?
@@lexezekiel2489 she had to fix something in the drawers that she was putting off since sometimeee
Your house is so lovely! But painting the tub green, ahh! It just reminds me of when I rented a place with a green toilet and tub and brown tiles on the walls, an ugly 80s bathroom, for 5 years. I longed for a modern bathroom ever since and hated it 😂 but it balances well with your otherwise modern bathroom. Love seeing your ideas come to life. ❤️
That bathroom is to die for. It’s really making me consider turning my basement into my bedroom/bathroom suite. I’m currently renovating my childhood home which is a 124 year old brick house in St. Louis, MO, USA and I’m using your videos to get ideas. Absolutely stunning.
so pretty!! I love all the plants :)
Everything looks so beautiful. The designs are very creative and beautiful. I also decorate the rooms with furniture and wallart on the website:daisycorners.com/. There are also different products here. The rooms have completely changed changed when decorated. Awesome
This video got me so emotional, I don't know if it's my pms or the fact that I'm seeing a dream similar to mine coming true and that just makes it more tangible for me, but either way the result is beautiful and so is the footage! Thank you for sharing! 💜
I’ve actually watched this several times today because I love this makeover so much and I vibe with it so well
Congratulations for 2 miljons subscribers!!! Have followed you for several years and love see you making home. Learning a lot and you have such great designing taste. Take care!
Literally saw this, then you said to stop and go watch your other episodes first so I’ve done that for the past few hours and now I’ve subscribed and I’m obsessed!!
You're so amazing!!!! Can't believe you did all this and still look and remain so calm! Great job!
That is literally the cutest bathroom I’ve ever seen omg 😍
The plants isn’t he bathroom are the actually dreamiest thing ever I need to do this in my bathroom makeover!!
I kind of like the look of the lights in front of the mirror. Adds visual interest and dimension.
Lovely job...we also re-purposed a vintage mid-mod dresser as a bath vanity a couple years ago and put a quartz top on it which matches our shower enclosure. The walnut wood of the dresser and the wood in the closet door, toilet room door, and barn doors really warms up our otherwise very modern white and gray-toned bath.
I LOVE how it's turning out! Watching this series makes me so excited to have my own home one day!! Can't wait to see the rest of this series! :)
You’ve done a beautiful on this Kelsey! I feel oddly proud of you, seeing it all come together after so long and so much in the way!
this bathroom looks SICKKK! I'm a little worried about the plants living there, but this room turned out just amazing!
I'm also renovating my 2-bedroom apartment by myself so I FEEL YA, SIS, lol. it's all hard work but it's satisfying and pays off eventually. and you are very inspiring! looking forward to see how the rest of the house turns out!
yeah those plants are all gonna die, speaking from low-lit bathroom experience
She could totally get a light bulb that is specifically meant to be a plant light! They have the right wave lengths for plants to grow and survive :)
@@minearokka7208 I was thinking the same - with all those light fixtures, a few of them could have grow bulbs put in them and it would be 100% fine.
OMG dream bathroom right there! Love the addition of the plants in the space.
Missed opportunity to DIY that mirror! Thrift mirror + wood trim. 😥 Have someone go outside at night to see if they can see you in the shower, (those lights look really bright). Maybe add a tension rod with a little curtain?🤔 Put a dimmer on the fixture over the tub for a nice moody soak. Really enjoying this series, I'll be bummed when it's over. You're doing an amazing job!
I was literally like “wait tsg haven’t posted new vid this week huh” then the notification popped-out lol
I wouldn't move the lights. They look perfectly fine to me. The mirror actually looks a little on the high side to me. If the lights overlapping the mirror bother you that much, would be easier to lower the mirror just rest of the switch plate?
She's tall and the ceiling is kind of low since it's a basement apartment. I can relate as a tall woman also living in a basement- the overhead lights built into this rental apt. drive me nuts because they're too close to my eyes. It's not comfortable to feel like you're under a spotlight and she also wouldn't want her mirror cutting off the top of her head. I think her over-the-vanity lights hang down too close to her face and the cheapest fix would be keep them in the same spot, but get smaller globes.
Old installer here of window films, take a small needle and poke a tiny hole, use a card to push all the air towards the hole and BUBBLE BE GONE!
I love love love that you mention creating a list with options as an alternative to amazon 😍😍😍
It always feels like a magic trick when a person can choose such an awesome combo of finishes and fixtures. Looks amaaaazzzing 🤎
oh my gawd i've been waiting for this since forever!
THANK YOU for starting to look into alternatives to Amazon!!! I've been wanting to hear you say that forever!!!!!!!!!! :D
I always get excited when you post new videos but this series is EVERYTHING! By far my favorite channel on youtube
Lights a success . Being near mirror just doubles the light with the reflection. The 600 bucks extra to change would have disappointed me. Love how you used the black touches with the green on all white. Mirror make it. Thank your Gram for the plants. Green Thumb Granny showstopper! Thank you
The bathroom is so beautiful!!! 😍 Kelsey is so talented !!!!!!!
