If you are looking for a budget gimbal and you have realized the DJI OM6 is not what you are looking for, this smartphone gimbal from Hohem, the iSteady Mobile Plus for under $100 might just be what you are looking for. I like the om5 for just quick tiktok style videos but this seems like a winner
This is brilliant for that. If you plant it on a table or tripod upright you will see the motor bracket. However, as I show in the video in the vlogging section, all you need to do it mount it in reverse and it works a treat….
Great video! Nice to have lots of options nowadays, but how does the Hohem iSteady compares to the Zhiyun Smooth 5?
The smooth 5 has better components, better everything overall, but also costs more than twice as much. I think this Hohem gimbal is a great, relatively inexpensive starter gimbal. If money is tight, this is a no brainier, in ny opinion. The smooth 5 is great, but at $219, it feels to me it is more for someone with some experience.

I ended up getting the om5 because it was a gift... but dang this one I might get over the smooth 5 or the smooth 5s because I just can't justify those other gimbals but the light is pretty interesting for filming at night, what do you think?
I am waiting for the smooth 5S from manufacturer for a review. However, this gimbal for $99 is amazing value, especially if you already have a gimbal….
It is important to remind that you are reviewing the 2022 model. Hohem updated it without changing the name or adding a ‘v2’ or something, but it is a COMPLETELY different product. The old version lacks 40% of the new features and can only be connected to an old pretty limited app called “Hohem Gimbal”. I have just purchased a second-hand unit and unfortunately got the old version (as I said, couldn’t know since their names are the same) and boy what a terrible experience.

@@SamuelSotiega thanks for the opportunity! I live in Brazil so unfortunately it won’t be possible to participate. I mean the old version performed “like a real gimbal” but calibration and functionality makes it a lot harder to use. I got it to take in a trip to the US but will leave it home and get something more portable there. Since the OM6 is not recommended, I will be looking for an used Pocket 1 or 2. I’ve read the 3 is expected to come out soon so It maybe not be a good time to purchase a brand new Pocket 2…

Yes, 100%! You can do any adjustments to the gimbal on the hohem app, but use the default camera app, or any other app, to actually film. This is a very versatile gimbal!
00:04:03 this one made it so hard for me to get this gimbal. It defeated the purpose of having a tripod mount since it will show the arm T_T. I re-watched this to make sure I got it right. oh well! thanks again

I just got the DJI OM6 and compared it against my 2yr old Hohem iSteady X. I tested it out doing things a gimbal should help with, like running and not having to ninja walk while doing it. Wow…what a huge surprise and disappointment for my OM6! The older, cheaper iSteady was MUCH smoother and no jello-ing effect that was noticeable on the OM6! The iSteady is older and I might upgrade to a newer model and as far as the OM6? I think it’s return for the poor DJI. (Btw..I love DJI products and have their drones..not a DJI hater at all, but was just sadly disappointed in the results of my gimbal shootout test)

Can you videotape a soccer game with it ?? 11/11 big field ? Can it track the ball ???
No. The tracking feature is not designed for that type of tracking. It is design to track a face or head when vlogging or something on camera as long as nothing crosses the frame, it gets confused. You can totally videotape a soccer game but itt means you need to be the person in control and moving the gimbal and camera where you want it to record.

As it seems you know very well the "phone gimbal market". So what would you suggest for the 150-200€ budget instead of OM?
I got reviews for several gimbals. For $99, hohem iselteady mobile plus. For around $200, the Feiyutech G6 Max and the Crane M3. Please check my last 2 vídeos as this is exactly what I am answering. Worth watching I think….

Hi Sam, would you be able to comment & compare this gimbal with Zhiyun Smooth Q4?
I have a big issue with gimbals designed like the dji OM6 or smooth Q4. Please look at my review of the OM6, everything I mention there relates to the Q4. Have you consider gimbals that are a little big bigger but much better like the Smooth 5S or the hohem m6?

Any monopod with a 1/4inch screw thread at the top, which they all do, will be fine, You can go as fancy or a budget friendly as you can digest. Along the lines of this one amzn.to/47G2Yjo but obviously there are more fancy monopods out there. This is down to you. The one I have amazon don't have any more so I gave you a link of one that looks ok and it is not so expensive, but mine wasn't that expensive either! I hope it helps!
Sir what is the best 3rf party app compatible for this gimbal & s23 ultra
Any 3rd party app will work with this gimbal. I am on iOS so I can’t really say…. I have been lately using a camera app called mavis pro but not sure it works with Android, I think it does. The good thing is that it is an app you buy and thatMs it, most apps these days are or paid membership which to me is a rip off. Maybe I should do a video about this actually, it seems since filmic pro changed into a different/new payment plan model it’s all a bit muddle up…
Hi Samuel! I just bought the iSteady Mobile+ but testing it I noticed that if the gimbal is set to operate in portrait mode (I will mostly use it in this mode), it's very limited when tilting the smartphone up.
If I try to make a video from a low angle with the smartphone pointing up, it's practically impossible because the bottom of the smartphone will touch the second motor.
I tried using the quick portrait mode but it's limited too, because when moving the gimbal too much, it will go back to landscape mode and I can rotate it only left and right with the joystick.
Do you know if there's a way to move the middle motor on the side or somehow use the bimgal upside down to remove this limitation?

Do you know if Feiyutech VB3/4 or Zhiyun Smooth Q4 can make the same crane shot like Hohem (not like DJI OM6?) I can't find it anywhere
No, they won't. I haven't used them but the design is the same as the DJI OM6, so it will behave the same, with the same restrictions, unfortunately.

I took back my OM6 and ordered this one. I can’t stand the way you can’t do the crane on the OM6.

You'll need the face/object tracking function if you're into hyperlapse(for moving objects like cars, boats, planes, ships etc). The gimbal's elbow in the wideangle shots, no 24fps. C'mon! sometimes it's not even just about the money, sometimes, you can't just compromise on certain things.
Fair point. But this is a gimbal for someone who wants the have the functionality of a gimbal, for under $100. With a bit more money you can get more and better operation and functionality. But some people $100 is all they can afford and this is, in my opinion, a good option.

I want something that can hold heavy phones like the Iphone Pro Maxes with filters and lenses on them without all the faffing around with counterweights and preferably no wide-angle lens revealing the gimbal motor, and something that probably works with Filmic Pro?

1. I’m ios user, cn I use my default iPhone camera to shoot, will the gimbal support without its Hohem joy app camera?
2. With the gimbal support other 3rd party gimbal apps…if it is what app will u recommend for ios?
Yes to both. I use filmic pro legacy but recently I have been looking at and using Mavis Pro. I think I might be doing soon a video about the different apps and which one offers best value for money, etc..

That is just the leg of a tripod/ monopod combo that I use for when fil,ming outdoors. But if you buy any monopod with a 1/4inch screw at the top it will work fine...

The Q3 has the same issues as the dji OM6. Watch my review for that one. Same or similar design means same or similar issues. This gimbal does not have any of those issues, but it is less portable and the motors don’t look. You need to decide what’s more important to you…

I can’t see why not. It was able to handle an iPhone 13 pro max, so I would imagine the weight to be similar… do you plan to use a lot of accessories?

Looks like a slam dunk but there are so many bad reviews on Amazon! Complaining about everything from reliability, operation, battery, app, customer support, can’t balance, etc etc
Well, the unit I got did the job.. But there is currently on amazon.com a zhiyun smooth 5 for $109 amzn.to/4cduXJQ that I think it is a much, much better option…
@@SamuelSotiega smooth 5, not smooth 5S, (the one you had in a video) which is almost double the price. The smooth 5 $110 has the same problem with the reviews being 15% 1-2 star reviews.
That said, i think there’s a problem with the listings on Amazon with Hohem isteady mobile - older and newer versions (including a 2024 model) are not listened as being new in any way, so different listings have the same reviews as older models, so I think they may have fixed the latest model but the reviews stayed the same! Stupid of them not to list it different. So the reviews may be totally wrong, pretty annoying.

@@RootinrPootine i feel the only noticeable difference between the 5 and the 5S is the addition of an LED light on the gimbals itself. Personally I have never used it. But it is still a good gimbal and The stabilisation is great. It is amazon, it has a return policy of 30 days. Yu can buy it, test it and if you are not happy, return it, so your investment is safe… are you geographically in a place you can order from amazon?
@@SamuelSotiega huh, that’s weird, I just assumed stay away for the 5 cause the positive review was for 5S for $185 not $110. So I figured I’d go for the brand that had the best in class at a higher price point-hohem. I found it on Amazon w a $35 off coupon so I ordered - I’m gonna see if it’s the 2024 model, cause that’s quite a deal. If not, then I return it :)
But Zhiyun is prob a good brand too 🤷♂️

The Osmo SE is the same pointless garbage gimbal as the OM4, 5 or 6. But if you feel that way, go on, who am I or anyone to tell you otherwise…

My friend. I was all set to buy the osmo 6, because of the integrated selfie stick. I'm glad i found your videos. I ordered the hohem. I was looking at the isteady ones also, because of the size, and the AI tracking. But watching your videos instantly convinced me that the "working as an actual gimbal" is way more important. I forsee I can just pint ahead to where \i want to shoot, rather than contorting my body to keep the view horizontal. My bones and muscles aren't so flexible any more, so you have probably saved my joints a lot of stress.

Thanks Sam. I don’t know why I was expecting some kind of evolution of the Hohem AI-powered gimbal. Bit disappointed as I notice that all the companies are starting offering toy-gimbals with too many compromises. I mean OM5 and 6 are the typical example.

Thanks buddy. For anyone considering the Om6, this would be,, in my opinion, an infinitely better option. Not as fancy as the more expensive gimbals, but for $99 one should expect compromises… But it is definitely worth every penny.

No. The case simply won’t fit. I use Sandmarc lenses and filters and use their phone case. I did a video some time ago about them if interested…
Hi Samuel, I do RC cars (1/10 scale) and i film cars very close to the ground. I would like to get a gimbal that can use upside down. Do you know if this one works inverted? Checkout any RC drift car video and you will realize what I'm talking about.

This gimbal works inverted, yes. Fior the cost, it is such great value for money. If you want something a bit more pricier I recommend the smooth 5S but it will cost more. But if budget is tight, this one is amazing value for money!!
Great Review! Samuel but what's the main flaw of the DJI OM6? I understand from your reviews that the primary point is that is SLOW in the movement? and then not good to pan with up and down movement? or is something else making it more a toy?

Im using s23 ultra. First time owning a gimbal. Its overheats after 5 minutes of use. What am i doing wrong?
That is very odd. I don't know. Please reach out to Hohem support, they are very good and very quick in helping customers, regardless of where you bought it from. As far as I am aware they have always resolved any issues from anybody that has contacted them, and very quickly!
