I got the M6. After watching countless reviews (and yours) I am very happy with the M6. I am new to gimbals and I have only used or previewed a few that my friends had. Now they all want the M6. The AI tracking is great and time laps is a lot of fun. Still learning but the M6 made it fun. Thanks for the videos.
I have had a bad experience with my Hohem MultiSteady and shared it with Hohem factory. After sending them (the troubleshooting) a video showing the problem (the gimbal head was out of control jerking right and left without stopping) they wanted me to send it back to China so that they could assess what's going on. I did not do so, because I would have to pay for everything (the shipping and handling to China) and it's very expensive from Brasil. Then, I stowed that away and never ever used it anymore. Particularly, after such a bad experience, I will never buy Hohem anymore, ever. Interesting review, anyway! 👍
Uhmmmm… interesting point. I think things have changed now and I will email my contact to see if they have done anything about it or improved their workflow in terms of customer support.
@@SamuelSotiega it happened last year (June/22). If you are interested, I can share with you the email reporting the problem (where there's a link with a video I did to show them) , and so you can see how weird the gimbal acted. Anyway, as ;you do reviews, it could be interesting, I think. Thanks, Samuel!
Hohem no distributor in Brasil? No brand that have perfect product, no defect. I ever have case for DJI drone. I contact to company and just get it to distributor to handle shipment both send to china and send back.
@@yoshimiyashita2954 unfortunately not. I recorded a video about the issue and sent to China. They watched the video and requested I send the gimbal back to them because there's really a fault. However, as they said I should pay to send it to China (and they would send it back from China for free), it's too expensive to me. So, the money I'd spend to send it to them would not worth it. Then, I left it aside and bought another one. As for DJI you mentioned, now there's a distributor in Brasil. Cheers!
That’s interesting. I have a Hohem iSteady x2 and the tilt motor has started making a horrible clicking sound that is amplified in the audio. They said I’m under warranty and also need to send it in for service and or replacement but gave me a address and phone number in California. But same where you will have to pay for shipping.. but not international at least
Interesting comparison. After watching the walk and run samples, it feels the 5S has better stabilization, but the M6 better and more reliable tracking. Your videos are improving and getting better in quality, well done!! We might be looking at the new Peter Mckinnon!!
I have a feeling you might be right in your assessment! Thanks for the feedback, I do try to reinvest in the channel so glad to see if doesn’t go unnoticed!
@Samuel Sotiega i am following you since ages Samuel, its never unnoticed no worry! Honestly i am watching your every video especially now im in search for new gimbal i have samsung s23 ultra but i don't know which is the best in terms of app support and weight? I have budget of 120e pls help me
I ordered the DJI mobile 6 from amazon prime day and had my difficulties because certain things didn't work as I imagine, when I saw your video about the DJI I knew it wasn't my fault, it was actually the device. I'm so grateful to have found your channel, just pack my DJI and will return it, I had already ordered the Hohem M6 yesterday and I'm happy that thanks to you it will arrive tomorrow. is it also possible to track with the AI tracker with the "cinema" mode of the iphone camera? That was actually my main problem because I really like making films with the cinema mode..
@@SamuelSotiega and in the zhiyoun smooth 5 you need a app to track? Asking because I already pay for an app that de-squeezes my anamorphic lenses and I don't want to pay for another app. The query is if there is an application that can both control the tracking and de-sqeeze
I felt exactly that when the Hohem M6 came out I was like I should have bought the Hohem M6 instead of the smooth 5s but you explained the differences well and for me Smooth 5S is a better choice just because it has those LED fill lights and it can handle up to 2 additional fill lights that I will need that for my videos. Rarely that I will need tracking and for that I can just live with the Smooth 5S tracking capabilities and I am hoping it will get better with future software updates. Thank you for the review and comparison!
I am so glad that you found it helpful. The 5S is a great gimbal, great stabilisation, and not everyone needs tracking. We all use gear in very different ways. So glad the video helped you feel reassured you made the right choice.
Just swapped the smooth 5s for the m6. The AI tracking is just too good of a feature to not have, especially as a S23 Ultra user were all the apps are only optimised for iPhones.
And the beauty of it is that it is totally independent so no need of this or that app. You use whatever you want and I can tell you, the results are amazing… what are the best apps for Samsung phones?
@@SamuelSotiega this is what I'm looking into currently as I'm new to this and have an S22 Ultra. I'm in a wheelchair, so love the idea of using the M6 AI feature so I can appear in more of the videos, opposed to only showing a user perspective from the chair when I'm on my own. Whereas with the AI, I can use it to film me going over obstacles and doing things in thr chair.
Thank you for this clear explanation. Nice to see someone giving an honest review with all pros and cons for once instead of glorifying every product. I have one more question. My intention is to make hyperlapses tracking on a certain subject like a certain point on a building or a statue. Which gimbal would be best suited for this, the Zhiyun or the Hohem with its AI sensor?
Hohem's Ai sensor is designed for content creators, faces, tracking a body of someone talking to camera, or anything that resembles a human body/ face, etc. The M6 has a tracker in-built on the app for faces too but also objects. It is actually good. The 5S might be a bit problematic with objects, but to be honest with you, I have never done much object tracking so the best I can recommend is to buy the one that you feel better about it because they can probably both do. decent job at what you want... I hope this helps...
I was originally going to get a DJI OSMO but then saw your review that showed how it couldn't handle vertical pans well (something i need). Ended up getting a Smooth 5S ... and returned it after 24 hours. The battery wouldnt charge but even worse, the attachable lights are kind of a joke. Even in low light i couldn't really tell the light was on. I can't imagine that spending $70 to get two more would've been worth it. I now have a Smooth 5 (not 5S) sitting and waiting to charge. Maybe I'll go with a Hohem? Total payload for me (phone, case, Moment 18mm lens and others) is 302g ... I do have a counterweight just in case it's needed. One thing I find, and this is strictly because I'm a n00b to all this, is that there's a little bit of a learning curve to all this ... but maaaaaaaannnn am i blown away by what something so cheap and small can do when it comes to cinematography (and on a smartphone too!).
The Hohem M6 is a great gimbal. If you want something that can handle your smartphone Nd/or a small camera if you upgrade in the future, my next 2 videos are the Hohem MT2 vs the M6 and then the MT2 v the zhiyun crane M3S, if interested…
Hey samuel love the video, just wanted to ask for your opinion, which do you think is better for someone who would mostly use the gimbal with 1.33, wide lens, fd filters, by freewell on the s23ultra, and using it for scenic footage and camping / hiking videos and pictures? also due to the higher weight sitting around 380-400g on average or would that still be fine for smooth 5s to handle all the time? would it affect motors or stabilization? or should i get the m6 if generally using near its max weight all the time. as i do like the idea of having the much better light of the smooth S. unless there is any after market lights for the m6? so hard to choose! thanks!
The M6 has a 1/4inch thread on the handle and you could attach any LED light you could think of. In that regard, I think you shouldn't worry. If you like the M6, it is a great gimbal. If you worry about payload, have you considered the Hohem MT2? It is more expensive though, so costs is also. a factor, but worth mentioning, AI tracking is the same on M6 and MT2. It is hard for me to say go with this or that because that is a very personal decision.... What do you think?
So I have had the Hohem iSteady M6 Kit for about a week now. It is light weight and works really smooth. I am using it with a Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus (bought 7 years ago or so) with a USB-C dongle plugged in at the bottom so I can use a wireless lavalier microphone. It seems to work fine but it is not quite straight in the horizontal/landscape mode. I did purchase a small counterweight last night so when it comes in hopefully it will balance it out. I also just purchased the new Aochuan Smart S2 gimbal which came out about 4 weeks ago. This is also a really nice gimbal as well and it has a built-in tripod/selfie stick which I really like. My main purpose to use the gimbal is to do reviews on various products. It is going to be a hard choice as to which one I keep as they are both good. The Hohem places my camera on my phone to the left when in horizontal mode which I like whereas the Aochuan places it on the right side which seems a bit weird/odd to me.
What you could do is to use the M6 with the AI tracker to introduce movement to your shots and the other gimbal for all the gimbal shots, so you get the best of all worlds…
@@SamuelSotiega I'm not really sure what you mean? Because the reviews I do are about 50% shot at my desk just eye-level showing my face and product. The other 50% is if I am unable to do the review at my desk then I will have to use the full function of the gimbal to show the product and in this case I am not showing my face in the videos but just focusing on the product.
@@TheProjectManager100 i meant in case you want to film yourself demoing or using whatever product you are talking about. But if you don’t need that, I can understand why having to choose between one or the other is a hard decision!!
I've had the Hohem M6 for about 4 months now. It's a very solid gimbal. I have other gimbals for my heavier dedicated cameras, but whenever I use the Hohem, it's just easy, smooth, enjoyable, and solid. The AI sensor is money. Damn good job, Hohem. 👏
I am so pleased to hear that 4 months on yiu are still happy with the purchase! And yes, they are a growing company and as long as they keep releasing good products, they will soon give a run for their money for the larger companies…
Hi, I always see your videos, I like the way you explain everything. I bought few months ago an Osmo 6 before to see your review. As you say, test up and down this a completely disaster!! Now Ive bought Hohem M6, and I hope best results. Do you know an app for timelapses using the hardware of the hohem m6 without using the app itself? Thank you for your videos.
I am testing different alls at the moment. I used to and still filmic pro but the legacy version. Since they changed their pricing model there seems to be a gap out there… Have you looked at any apps?
Worth the wait! I’m leaning more on M6. I make videos mostly horizontal videos. Not very sophisticated shots. Mostly panorama and front facing footage. Would I need either of the two or is an older gimbal model be fine?
If you want a basic gimbal that behaves as a gimbal is supposed to and will cost under $100, please see my review of the hohem isteady mobile +. Would that be enough for you or you need more in a gimbal?
Hi Samuel Thanks for the video , which one do you think has the more accurate Tracking for filming sports vidéo and only using the AI Tracking ?? Many thanks for your help
Thanks for the outstanding review Samuel! You mentioned third party control apps for gimbals. Could you share some you've used and like that work on iPhone?
I use the hohem AI sensor that you get when you buy their combo with the AI sensor. trust me, it is well worth it. Check my M6 vs Flow comparison video as I have a 15% discount coupon there from Hohem website. Double win!!
I’m doing some research on in the best gimbal and I have to say that I have made my decision on the M6. Now I am trying to find the best accessories ( lights, microphone, lenses, tripod , etc) would love to be pointed in the right direction.
Hi! thanks for chipping in. Would this video be any helpful? ua-cam.com/video/UIJ7nMNwLXA/v-deo.html, or this one? ua-cam.com/video/W7GNIqpbxoc/v-deo.html
In pan mode the gimbal keeps the camera and horizon straight and you don’t need to do anything. In pan/follow mode the gimbal follow your hand move, so if you lean down the gimbal, the gimbal will tilt down. If you tilt up, the gimbal will do so. I hope this helps.
Hi. Thank you for your job, you did a realy good job. One question. I have Samsung S24 Ultra. Will it fit to Zhiyun Smooth 5S AI? And will it fit to Hohem M6?
I imagine if it can handle a 15 or 16 pro max, either one of them will be able to handle the S24… Wouldn’t you think so? I don’t own a s24 but I imagine the size and weight are very similar..
@@SamuelSotiega wow. thank you for the quick answer. i am impressed. i found in the gimbal specification what maximum width (90mm) and thickness (10mm) smartphones can have (and within these limits the S24 ultra fits). But I didn't find if there is a limitation on the height (length). But since you write that you use an iPhone 16 Max Pro it means that probably S24 ultra also I can fit because it is shorter 0.7 mm than this iPhone. Do you think so?
It may be a small thing, but I had a very well thought of an expensive gimbal, but like the Hohem, you could not lock the camera grip access as well and it was always flapping around and banging on things. I absolutely hated that about the gimbal. I might buy the smooth 5 just because it completely locks down.
Thanks for the excellent review!! I would like to ask, for walking streaming (IRL), which gimbal do you think can make the video more stable? I like the way M6 go from horizontal to vertical so easy, but in the general running test, 5S looks much more stable than M6. The struggle point is coming again, the roll axis of the M6 cannot be locked, as you said, will this cause the roll axis to fail to work normally after long-term use?
No, the roll axis won’t stop working. It just thag they didn’t do a very strong locking. Hohem knows about it as they watched my videos and have told me they will address this in future versions. The Smooth 5S did feel smoother in the running. You know what, I am going to do a video where I will only do samples of 2-3 gimbals in different situations so people can see what they look like. I will do it this week or even over the weekend (i have a busy week working on my best video) so if you can wait for a few days… Would that be helpful to you? Maybe I can create a short or two about it. I’ll do something!
@@SamuelSotiega I really appreciate it!! That's really helpful!! Looking forward to your new video very much, I would like to know how smooth each gimbal can do when walking normally (without ninja walk), and the size when carrying out. You are sooooo nice and sweet!! Thanks again for your reply.
You are the best reviewer I have seen when it comes to very details. And everything one could face in reallife. I simply love your way of comparisn. Love form Bangladesh ❤
It is a similar phone as the iPhone 14 pro max. Either one of these will work great. It’s down to your needs, as said in the video…. But my view is that to get the best you will need a 3rd party app. If you use a 3rd party app, you can’t go wrong with either one of them… i hope this is helpful, feel free to ask anything else if you need!
Hi man, i love your video's and you have an extra follower! I have a question: i am planning to buy a Dji pocket 2, but after a lot of youtube video's, i was comming to the conclusion that my daily phone -》Samsung s23 ultra is maybe better with a gimball.. So what would you prefer for family/vacation movie's? Just buy a decent gimbal with my s23 Ultra, or buy a dji pocket.. Thx in advance! Love your video's!
Well…. There are rumours the pocket 3 will be out soon. When will that be, it’s anybody’s guess. A gimbal will cost you 25-30% what a pocket 2 will cost you, although it’s larger. It’s a decision only you can make based on your needs and what you wanna do. I am travelling to the seaside soon for a long weekend and I am only taking my pocket 2, no large camera or anything, maybe my drone but that’s it. But because I already got it. It’s hard to say because you could buy the P2 and in a month or two the P3 is out, or it could take another year for DJI to release the P3, who knows… hard to say…
@@SamuelSotiega yeah indeed, but there are also rumors they cancelled the pocket 3.. Even if the pocket 3 will come out. Will the pocket be an option over a smartphone with the "best" camera onboard? I mean is there a difference in quality phone vs pocket 2/3? And last question, my s23 ultra + unicorn case is pretty big (9cm) wide.. does is fit on the s5 gimball? Im watching your gimball comparisson atm for the hohem m6 and s5 🙂 Thx for the quick reply btw!
Great video! I really like that the Hohem M6 has threads for counter-weights. I have an older Hohem iSteady Multi and need counter-weights on the roll axis to use my Samsung Z Fold 3 (folded/closed, of course), even though the phone is well within the payload capacity. Without threads, I came up with a solution to mount the weights, but it would be 500% better if it had threads.
@@SamuelSotiega I don't have a clamp, and I'm using improvised counter weights. I'll be getting a proper clamp & weights soon. I just recently started using the Z Fold 3 on the gimbal and never needed counter weights with previous phones and cameras. I was making sure weights would fix the balancing problem.
@@NoNonsense316sounds like you got it all under control. If you do need more counter weights, I left a link in the description to what I use and works a treat. Good luck!!!
I have a Poco X6 Pro and can't decide between the Zhiyun Smooth 5S and the Zhiyun Smooth 5S AI Combo. My question is, is the magnetic sensor actually compatible with my brand new Android phone, or am I gonna spend that extra money on the combo version for nothing? Please, help!🥴
Hii Samuel. I had one question after watching tons of review videos and deciding to buy Hohem M 6. There are two options to buy one without kit and one with kit ) The Kit includes AI tracking sensor ) If i do not buy that AI tracking sensor , will the Hohem M 6 track me still when I move left - right ? also If yes will it track me while using only Hohem app or any third party app ?
The built-in tracker on the hohem app is nowhere near as good and reliable as the AI one. Plus it doesn’t allow you for headroom adjustments. Whatever you track will always be in the middle of the frame. I would strongly recommend the AI tracking. I use it all nowadays and it is reliable. Worth the money. In my video comparison of the flow va the M6 I left a 15% coupon discount when buying from Hohem directly, that might help. One question I wanted to ask you. Do you only use a smartphone or you also use a camera and back and forth between the two? Oh, and if you want to use a 3rd party, only with the AI tracker as it is independent from the hohem app. The built-in on the r app must be used with the app. I hope this is helpful
@SamuelSotiega Thanks for the reply Samuel. I only use a smartphone but I don't have any requirement about switching camera while shooting. I only asked if without the AI sensor can it track me as I'm from India so I cannot buy from the Hohem app as it does not ship to India. So it is costing me more to buy with the kit that means the AI sensor so if the homem app tracks me without that kit or any third party app it would save me money
@@adityathorat2985 the app will track you, yes, but it is not as smooth and reliable as the AI tracker. In my opinion it is worth the extra money, specially if you are a solo content creator. The possibility to adjust height and headroom as well as remembering position on the frame, for instance, if you place yourself on the right side of the frame the AI tracker will always try to keep you on that side of the frame, etc. You get a lot of functionality. But if money is tight you can always get the basic kit and then decide if you need more finesse or whether the tracker in the app works for you. You can buy the AI tracker separately although I don’t know the price difference when part of a kit or individually. Ultimately it is your call but if money is tight I would never recommend to over stretch. You can always add it at a later date if/when you can afford it and know 100% that you need it.
Hey Samuel, do you have any updates on the sturdiness of these gimbals a year after this video? As you said, both are great gimbals, but you mentioned the roll axis lock failed on M6 (10:00) fairly soon, which worries me a bit.
The M6 roll axis did give way soon after I started using it, but my unit was a demo unit or preproduction, so they probably improved on that. Let me shoot an email across to hohem and ask them. Chase me on this in a couple of days if you haven't heard from me.
Can the "follow tracking" on a gimbal be turned off please. I want to film what I'm pointing my phone at as if the phone is welded to the gimble, but keeping stabilization active. Thanks.
Wich is better to use in a travel? My firt option was about Osmo 6 (light and foldable) but I have just read the problem with tilt vertical moviment...so know I have to decide from these two gimbal.
well, it all depends on your needs and the size you are ok travelling with. If you know the limitations and how to work around them, you can always go with a OM6 or even the insta360 flow. If you want a gimbal to behave as a gimbal is supposed to, well, those compact gimbals just won't cut it. I'd suggest you watch my review of the hohem M6, my comparison between the M6 and the zhiyun smooth 5S and also my comparison between the M6 and the insta360 flow. Hopefully after that you'll have a better view and some answers. Let me know what you think!!
Thank you for your reviews, very down to earth and of great use for the regular person who is considering using a gimbal. i intend to buy one, use it with Iphone 15 pro, no previous experience in filming. Intend to use Blackmagic camera app, so if there is start/stop on the gimbal is ok. Was considering Hohem M6 but there were some problems reported, software/firmware glitches, lock mechanism fail, and I would want to make sure that if i have any problem there's somewhere within EU I can send it, not in China. This would be an interesting topic for future reviews, how well the manufacturers can address problems: is the online customer service good and responsive, do they listen to the customers (firmware and software updates, etc.), do they have service centers worldwide or you would have to ship to China, for example, which would be a major problem for....everybody who's not in China. No idea if you can do that, or maybe customers can in comments. So, after a year, I can't go wrong with either one, nothing is changed in your evaluation of the 2?
Zhiyun has a repair centre in Barcelona and Germany. Hohem does not. it will have to go to China and if no repair possible they send you replacement... In terms of my evaluation, nothing has changed from what I mentioned in the video, a year later. These two gimbals are still great, but offering different features and both have strengths and shortcomings.
I bought recently the S5, but when I got it it was defect. The pan axis didn't work properly. I send it back and found out about the Hohem M6 now I am thinking hard ;) is it the s5 again or the M6. I am filming with a pro max 15.
The main question I would ask you is, would you take advantage of the face tracking? Is it important to you for what you do or want to do? If yes, the M6 is the way to go. If not, either one will be good!
Thanks for the review. Quick question if you can help - can the M6’s AI tracking continue to track me even if there are other people in the frame ? Like in family selfies or a video in tourists spots with people on and off the frame. Thanks again. Cheers
The Ai tracker is designed primarily for solo content creators. I have had my wife crossing in the middle of the frame and the tracker kept me, but if she stayed too long the tracker would get confused. Which leads me to believe in crowds, it might be too much for the tech at this moment to handle, but I have never tested such environment, so I don't know for certain. I am just applying my common sense based on observations.. This might actually be a test I will do from now on with all AI tracking gimbals that come to the market...
What is the charging time comparison between the two gimbals? I think 5s supports PD charging but I am not sure about m6. Also, is there a major weight differences when holding the two?
If you want to track objects or animals, the insta360 flow might be a good option. I reviewed it too, I am not a big fan of it. But the tracking is great. The Hohem AI tracking is for a person’s face/ head and the app, does the job, but I am not sure how reliable it will be for a dog as they can move very quickly…
Hello, congratulations for your videos, I have a question.. My idea is to use the hohem with filmic pro, do the zoom and focus controls work in filmic pro app? thank you
Those controls and functionality only work on the native gimbal camera app. I donMt use the current filmic pro app somI donMt know how well the integration is with the smooth 5S though…
nice comparison, i decided to get the hohem now after couple of weeks of comparing both of them. anyway, whats the music you use on "how good are they?" that's a really nice music
Thanks for the comment! You mean at 14:22? I use epidemic sound as my music library. Let me know if the timing I said is right and I can give you the title...
@@SamuelSotiega i mean the background music at 3:47 , very relaxing yet feel intense, perfectly timed with your video on running with gimbal, and i think that music will be suitable for filming a POV zombie movie, the minimal shake of the camera also adding up to the whole scene
What phone you use, i have no manual controls on ZY Cami on OnePlus 8 Pro and no 4K 60fps, according to support list only 60fps 4k is available in Pixel 5 and higher..
This video was very helpful to me! Well done! I need your help. I am an interior designer and I would like to buy a gimbal to make videos of my projects. which gimbal die do you recommend? thanks so much for the help
I need help on deciding between these two Gimbals guys. I have currently a entry level Hohem iSteady x2. It served me well until recent where a motor in the tilt is making a clicking sound which audio is picking up. I have likes and dislikes of both this videos gimbals . I like the built in light, and the zoom/focus wheel on the smooth. Where as on the Hohem I like the payload 400g, and extra accessory mounts. Idk if I should switch to smooth as it maybe more reputable. Hohem right now is 25.00 cheaper too on Amazon plus you get a case. So more bang for your buck. Like I said I’m torn. Please note I use a wireless mic and wide led light on my current gimbal. Those are the main accessories I would use
the most important question is, Do you see the need of the AI tracker? If you do now or will in the future, the M6 is the way to go, if not the 5S is a great option. But it also comes down to price. Either one of them are really good stabiliser gimbals. Do you use a lot of accessories with your phone, like lenses and filters, etc?
@@SamuelSotiega thank you for the reply. The AI tracker is not something I would use or need. I’d be getting the M6 without it if at all. I wish I could attach a picture of my current setup to give a better understanding of what I use. Basically a rectangular pod light, and a wireless microphone where the receiver needs to be mounted somewhere. Those are the only two main accessories.
@@SamuelSotiega I also should ask if one has a benefit over the other to accommodate sliding the phone over a little to make room for the charging port. Cause the wireless mic needs to be tethered to the bottom of the phone and I noticed the smooth seems to already clamp onto your pro max more at the side then center. The Hohem seems to grip more center of the phone. If you slide it over some will it be able to grip the phone still properly.
@@TheCrosx731 Because the M6 has a heavier payload, the roll axis allows for more adjustment, so if you mount a phone with a mic, depending on how many accessories you put on the lens end, you are probably gonna be ok. Technically, the same is for the smooth 5 unless you use a smallrig cage, then the 5S is at its max capacity, and adding a phone would be a bit too much, even with counterweight.... Couldn't you reach out to anyone in your city or town to let you use either one? If you were based in London I am happy to help...
Either one of these will be miles better than the Q4, but they are a bit bigger too. But if you want quality, you’re not gonna find it in the portable gimbals with similar design to the DJI OM6 of the smooth A4. They all share the same problems. These 2 are great smartphone gimbals

@@SamuelSotiega one more question lets say if you have to choose out of this two ( M6 & 5s) which one would you prefer from my perspective? 🙏 The reason I am asking the price diffrence is almost double and I am not sure If I want to spend 300$ for the gimble or buy one of them(M6 or 5s) and spend the rest for lens or filter.
You just use it the way you always use and you can adjust or change modes and settings on the gimbal itself. You rarely need to go into the hohem app once you set the motor’s strength and joystick speed…
Hi samuel, I have this problem with the zhyiun smooth 5 that it always changed from vertical (portrait) to horizontal (landscape) when I move it from left to right or up and down. It really ruins my shots
uff, that is a tough questions. I'd probably say an ultra wide lens if you vlog handheld, a standard lens will be fine if you use a tripod to talk to camera. Then which brand, well, that is hard for me to say because this is very subjective. You need to do your own research based on your budget...
I think AI tracking is for people and faces as you engage it by giving a hand sign and the tracker locking onto your face or the person’s face. For an object you would use the tracker in the hohem app, which has two different sections, one for human and another one for objects.
Yes it does. They have improved the native camera exponentially since I made this video. It feels a lot more like dji mimo app now. Fully functional. As a matter of fact, in my last video, I reviewed a new compact portable gimbal they have and I shot an alien invasion using their app, if that sounds interesting to watch....
11:07 What can you say about vertical up&down test for Zhiyun? It seems that gimbal blocks the phone movement when it goes down gimbal touchs screen 🤷🏼♂️
There is a limit to both of them which depends on the size of the phone you mount. The larger the phone, it will hit the body as you go further down. Saying that, if you factor this when you balance it, both clear a fairly large phone. Which phone do you have? Maybe I can test it for you.
I have tested iPhone 14 Pro Max with Hohem. In normal mode gimbal hit the phone in upper part, but in ultrawide mode everything is ok. And I’m afraid that Zhiyun has the same problem. There are a lot of videos with Zhiyun but nobody demonstrate portrait mode movement test, especially up and down. Also I want to thank you for your reviews. When I bought DJI OM I was surprised with movement restrictions during up-down test and wonder why nobody tells about it. But in your video you did it. Thank you!
Does Filmic Pro work for both gimbals? Tried the Smooth 5. You definitely can’t read the screen in daylight. Can you fully read the screen in Hohem 6 or is it “just” better than the Smooth5?
With the hohem you press record in filmic pro legacy and it works, as I show in my M6 review. I guess in the newer filmic pro will be the same. And the screen you can definitely see it under a bright sun, which is great.
@@SamuelSotiega Hello, congratulations for your videos, I have a question.. My idea is to use the hohem with filmic pro, do the zoom and focus controls work in filmic pro app? thank you
i bought this setup for my S24 ultra (240 grams) with freewell 1.55x lens (140 grams) and its case (60 gram). It already tops the max. load of 400 grams. But i still need counterweights. Did you run into an issue like this by any chance?
@@SamuelSotiega btw i remember you talked about not using the back camera for vlogging with the om6 but the flow has it and there are some cool features as well.I think that you should give it a shot
Firstly I would like to thank you for responding to me. Actually I use the original app of the mobile for the camera also in fact, when traveling, I use slow motion, hyperlapse, classic and cinematic videos a lot. As for tracking, I have not tried it yet, but I am interested to try it because I'm visiting Dubai right now. @@SamuelSotiega
@arkmo69 I would go with the Hohem M6 for its heavier payload. It's also just an all-around great gimble that punches way above it's weight compared to the well-known competition. I use my M6 with my S23U, sometimes with Freewell accessories without any issue whatsoever. By far my favorite feature of the M6 is the independent AI sensor. This feature has become more of an advatange than I initally thought it would. I thought it was a gimmick feature that I'd end up not using much, but I was completely wrong. 😂 Even my more expensive professional grade gimbals don't have this feature. Once you have it it's hard not to have it. 😂
The Pink Elephant no one talks about is using the Hohem Joy on Android. They have 2 stars for a reason. No zoom, no 4k or flash using front camera. App crashes all the time. If I was a reviewer, I would start with all the complaints. Try it. You may start a trend of being the first reviewer to start putting out honest and real life reviews we all want to watch. Heck, I'd even pay for that sort of honesty as I'm sure many others would as well.
The challenge I have is that I am an iPhone user, and I donMt have an Android. I am actually considering buying a Samsung mobile just for reviews to do exactly what you say. Comparing gear when used on both iOS and Android… Couldn’t you use a 3rd party app and only use the hohem app for adjusting settings? That is what I do. I don’t use the hohem joy app because it suck big time.. I do believe I mention this in the video..
It would be a good idea to test the products with android as well as i phone, as i bought a gimble from a youtube iphone using review and on my android the software was very flaky
I'm not sure about the validity of this. I'm on a S23U and I have full access to all of the Hohem Joy's feature set. I don't get any of the aforementioned crashes/freezes. That being said, I don't use the Hohem Joy app much, because you lose access to 10bit output. It only records to a very compressed 8bit container, which is not professional enough for professional work. Instead I use the native Samsung camera app in Pro Video mode, and if I really need to get the maximum output I use Motion Cam Pro which gives you RAW video aquisition.
I use a 3rd party camera app, blackmagic camera app, as I am on iphone. But you can use Hohem's free app that comes with the gimbal, if you decide to buy it. Is this what you were after? If not, let me know more specifics!
The one thing you really don't measure, which is a massive thing for me, is portability. This is the only reason why the Insta360 Flow is my preferrable choice, because it can fold up so much more small and compact than these two. Maybe you should highlight it and encourage some innovation from these two brands.
Fair point. But in my video comparing the flow to the hohem M6, I believe I mention that. Yes, the flow is more portable but it all depends on what people need from a gimbal…
If portability is what matters to you, go with the DJI OSMO. It lacks in vertical pan and has a lower payload support but many a review raves about its portability.
I got the new smooth fire hay boy going to returning because y saw the payload capacity still 300, I do real estate videos and I need a gimbal who have a little more capacity, at least 400 so I can use different lenses
Have you considered the new feiyutech scorp mini 2? I recently did a review and it was doing real estate. I think it might be exactly what you are looking for. What do you think?
Hohem M6 is the winner here. I was looking for a smartphone gimbal able to hold a IPhone 14 pro max, lens and able to connect a mic. How people are going to vlog without good audio ? Canon Zhiyun, camon dji
Personally, when I vlog with a gimbal, unless I use a hybrid gimbal that allows me to mount the phone upside down and have clear access to the port, I record audio via a lapel mic into a little external H1N recorder and then sync on Davinci resolve by the waveform, very easy. Not sure this answers your question… i do believe that you could use a 14pro max with lens and a mic on the port, but you’ll probably have to use counter weights to compensate for the phone sticking out more than without the mic or cable on. I hope this makes sense, let me know otherwise..
@@SamuelSotiega but isn’t there a 3.5mm port in the gimbal for mic? I didn’t understand that quite well. We use many cameras here to record pro video and audio but there is a lot of the content which is just walk in a quiet are surrounded by trees talking straight to camera and the person doing need and easy way of just play record and goes. She might would miss it if recording externally. Big thanks for answering my doubt by the way 📸
can you help me out? i am looking for a gimble for a crazy cinematic expirience like very smooth like those instagram videos and it would be an one time purchase for me so please help me out
@@SamuelSotiega I am a content producer. I videotape my routine work at home, my workouts and the area I live in. I edit these and upload them to Instagram as reels. The most important thing for me is that the device can follow me. In addition, the application works compatible with apple.
What do you value most in a gimbal? The G6Max is a gimbal I love, it is hybrid so if you plan to use a small camera, it is a great all-rounder. The M6 has amazing tracking and good stabilisation, but it is only for smartphones. The e G6Max has decent locks for the motors… let me know your thoughts and hopefully I can give you my opinion…
I don't know. I can already see the faults just from the photos. I hate bashing gear about and I feel the same issues you have with the DJI OM6 you'll have with the insta 360 flow.... It's hard to review gear that you feel it's crap to start with... But maybe, I don't know. I am always open-minded....
Hello, i bought the Hohem isteady 6 for IRL live streaming and it doesn't offer stabilisation through youtube app. Very sad to have spent a tonne of cash on something I can't use.
I don’t understand. The gimbal’s stabilisation is independent to any app. How do you intend to use it? Or what would you like to achieve with it that you can’t? Do you have a video reference I can look at of what you wish to achieve? I’d like to help, if at all possible…
@@SamuelSotiega oh bless you. I broadcast live streams on my channel - I won’t drop a link here otherwise my comment will be blocked. The streams are on my live tab on my channel (and this isn’t a shameless way to get traffic) - I genuinely need help 😩but the hohem just didn’t offer a smooth stream as I stream outdoors walking and I stream through the UA-cam app. So I can’t use the hohem app) . @@MallorcaUnderTheSun are you able to stream using a different camera app, rather than the hohem app? Essentially you use the hohem app to adjust settings to your liking, then use your favourite canera app for the actual video side of the process. Would that be an option?

Hello Samuel, I am from Spain, what stabilizer would you recommend for vertical videos for Instagram, especially landscapes and nature such as rivers, mountains, volcanoes, forests, thank you very much!
I think either one of these two will give you what you’re looking for. Please watch the section where I speak about vertical vs horizontal in case you fancy one over the other… Have you seen my review of both of them?
My hohem is not good the motor in the swivel motion jerks back and forth before counter balanacing itself. I sent it back to amazon today. Im trying to find the best one for a good price.
Either one of these two would be suitable. Neither have a great Android app though so you will need to reply, ideally, on your preferred app. If that is the case, the Hohem M6 is a gimbal designed to be used with a 3rd party app, wheres the Smooth 5S relies a bit more on the zhiyun app, but you can also use it with a 3rd party app... It all depends on which of the features of each of them suit your needs more...
Your reviews are great...HOWEVER, you never make it exactly clear which you are talking about. Ie, the little dongle sensor thing... Which does that belong to? I have found this on a few of your video's I have watched. I really didnt have a clue which you were talking about??? How about, maybe putting text at the side when you are describing what.?? It really would help as I also find it difficult to follow your English at times. Apart from the, great reviews.
Thr Zhiyun app does. The Hohem doesn’t. But with the Hohem you can easily use any 3rd party app, just as easy as the Zhiyun actually. But the Hohem in my opinion is a gimbal thought out to be used with a 3rd party app.
@@SamuelSotiega thanks Samuel I guess FilmicPro is the app of choice. Would it work in FP with the AI controller? Sorry to bug you with these questions. I certainly appreciate you answering so promptly 😊 Thank you
@@MontenegroRealEstate absolutely! The AI tracker is independent of the Hohem app. You just give it the ok sign as I show in the video and you can use any 3rd party app, doesn’t have to be filmic pro, any app, even the default camera app in your phone.
@@SamuelSotiega thanks Samuel. You’re amazing. Really love your honest approach. Was convinced I needed the Insta360 until I saw your video. I shoot real estate and despite seeing lots of (sponsored) glowing reviews, it would have been useless for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I use the blackmagic camera app, and it is free! I did a video recently about it, if interested. I highly recommend it... But at the moment it is iPhone only. Are you iPhone or Android user?
I used Sandmarc lenses. You will need a case too, which they also sell. They are good (and small-ish too)... I have a video recently about their lenses, if interested...
Hi samuel! Initially, I was satisfied with insta 360 flow videos from UA-camber before I saw your last video! So thank you for that. I was happy about that extension pole, lightweight, compatibility and the features that the app have like guidance to shoot a certain video.. However after I saw your last video, I realized that this gimbal is basically a joke.. I'm not a vlogger and I'm not shooting selfie mode.. so basically it's pointless for me besides what the app should suggest for me. Based on this video of yours, I'm interested in the hohem 6, but I have Android- poco x3 pro .. From what I understood you can't rely on websites of the gimbals to see the real list the phones that can work whit them. Can you please tell me or tested if you know anybody with poco x3 pro that if it can work with a hohem 6 please?🙏 Because they don't sell this gimble in my country, and I would need to buy it from abroad website..
I am on iOS but so far everyone has told me the implementation to Android is quite good, regardless of the phone model. The beauty of the gimbal is that if you can use your own 3rd party camera app (or one that might come with your phone already) and only going to the hohem app for adjustment things such as the motor’s te sion, etc…
@@SamuelSotiega thank you for the reply! Do you think, assuming my phone will not work with the app of the gimbal, (that I probably will use for motion sensibility,etc..) that it's worth to buy it? Again, assuming that the gimbal app will not work with my phone..

The AI tracking is great and time laps is a lot of fun. Still learning but the M6 made it fun. Thanks for the videos.
Wow, so glad that my video/s were helpful! Yes, the M6 is a gimbal that brings the fun and joy of filming back into the mix. Congratulations!

@@davidfrancoruiz no, the zoom and focus only work using the native app for the respective gimbal.
How about the robustness and sturdiness of Hohem M6? Any heating problem? Stability?

I just returned my Osmo 6 today & looking to upgrade to the M6 or 5S. The Osmo 6 seemed off, but then again I’m new to this.
Seems like a fair and balance side-by-side review, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Send me a photo of your gimbal and phone set up, I’d love to see it! 👍👍

@Indigenous_Patriot_1175 Which brands did you settle on ?. I would appreciate the feedback
when doing a down up up down movement, does the gimble automatically follow the flow or do you have to control the movement with a button ?
I know exactly what you mean…
I understant that my choise will be insta 360
Thanks for the feedback!!
in running test Hohem M6 is shaking much more than Smooth 5S?
The question you need to ask yourself is, how many times are you really ever gonna use a gimbal running at full speed? 😉
Oh man, happy to find this channel. That vid totally deserved a sub!
Thanks buddy for the feedback! Glad you found it helpful!
Thank you so much for sharing this video. For Samsung Galaxy s23 Ultra Which gimbal stabilizer would you recommend me
It is a similar phone as the iPhone 14 pro max.
Im watching your gimball comparisson atm for the hohem m6 and s5 🙂
Thx for the quick reply btw!
Great comparison video! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
The threads are a very neat touch, 100%. Doesn’t your counter weights have a little clamp to attach it to the gimbal similar to the one in my video?

All I can say is, please, wait until December 10. There is something new coming that will be worth the wait.
@@SamuelSotiega now, I'm intrigued and entering waiting mode! :))
@@SamuelSotiega What will come out sir ? I also wanted to buy the 5s ai
@@SamuelSotiega thank you very much
Can the "follow tracking" on a gimbal be turned off please. I want to film what I'm pointing my phone at as if the phone is welded to the gimble, but keeping stabilization active. Thanks.
you can select "lock" and it will lock the position without going up or down or sideways.
@@SamuelSotiega thanks for that.
What is the charging time comparison between the two gimbals? I think 5s supports PD charging but I am not sure about m6. Also, is there a major weight differences when holding the two?
The M6 is smaller and feels lighter. Both support fast charging
Question
Do you know if de Homham will track a dog. I want to use the Gimbal for training video’s with Malinois.
Thanks for answering. I’m just going to order it an try it out.
The insta 360 flow looks so fragile and wobbly 😅 I rather use something solid.

This video was very helpful to me! Well done! I need your help. I am an interior designer and I would like to buy a gimbal to make videos of my projects. which gimbal die do you recommend? thanks so much for the help
Thanks for the comment and feedback! I replied to this on another comment thread so let me know your answer there… 👍
I need help on deciding between these two Gimbals guys.
@@TheCrosx731 The M6 has a wider mount and it is definitely easier to slide a phone in, even with a larger cage like the smallrig's..

How do these two perform in the tracking "object" function?
both have similar results. Maybe the smooth 5S might be slightly better but this is down to personal preferences,
Hello sir , I bought the zhihun smooth Q4 for my Samsung S 24 ultra and it was no good . Do you think these will do a better job?
Either one of these will be miles better than the Q4, but they are a bit bigger too. But if you want quality, you’re not gonna find it in the portable gimbals with similar design to the DJI OM6 of the smooth A4. They all share the same problems. These 2 are great smartphone gimbals

uff, that is a tough questions. I'd probably say an ultra wide lens if you vlog handheld, a standard lens will be fine if you use a tripod to talk to camera. Then which brand, well, that is hard for me to say because this is very subjective. You need to do your own research based on your budget...

Hey, can i use the ai trackin gof the hohem on subjects like a car ?
I think AI tracking is for people and faces as you engage it by giving a hand sign and the tracker locking onto your face or the person’s face. For an object you would use the tracker in the hohem app, which has two different sections, one for human and another one for objects.
Great review, thank you does the M6 work well with the native camera app? I have the Xiaomi 14 Ultra
Thank you!

@arkmo69
I would go with the Hohem M6 for its heavier payload.
I appreciate your advice, thank you very much@@matthewhartman7176
Is the Hohem isteady m6 compatible with s22 ultra?
As far as I am aware, it will support it. Plus you can also use the samsung pro video app and get the best of both worlds…
Can you compare hohem against insta360 flow?
My next video is the insta360 flow review and the following one is exactly what you have requested. Stay tuned (or subscribed! 😉)
Is it possible to use Zhiyun 5s with Filmic pro v7 app for shooting
Big fat Yes!
How to save video or pics in hohem isteady m6?
@@SamuelSotiega Indeed, however I’m sure you will agree with me that the best gimble, is always the one you take with you!
Great comparison video, thank you for making it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Big thanks for answering my doubt by the way 📸
@@diegoviecili8888 There are no 3.5mm port on either gimbal that I am aware. ..
Great analysis ❤
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
How do I mount my s23 ultra to the hohem m6 and how to film with it. I'm trying to do vertical filming but its giving me an error
Can you send me a little video either on instagram or facebook? Details in about page
can you help me out? i am looking for a gimble for a crazy cinematic expirience like very smooth like those instagram videos and it would be an one time purchase for me so please help me out

Hello, I live in the UK and I am an iphone 14 pro user. Which one do you recommend?
Ufff… Is tracking important to you? Are you a solo content creator or you just want it for using it with little to no use for tracking?
@@SamuelSotiega I am a content producer. I videotape my routine work at home, my workouts and the area I live in. I edit these and upload them to Instagram as reels. The most important thing for me is that the device can follow me. In addition, the application works compatible with apple.
@@SamuelSotiega My expectation from the gimbal is that it can follow me well while training and catch my fast movements fluently.
@@SamuelSotiega I need answer 🙏🏾
@@AtesAtesoglu-du3jz if tracking is a big thing for you, take hohem you won't be disappointed.
Hohem M6 Vs Feiyutech G6 Max,which is better..?
What do you value most in a gimbal? The G6Max is a gimbal I love, it is hybrid so if you plan to use a small camera, it is a great all-rounder. The M6 has amazing tracking and good stabilisation, but it is only for smartphones. The e G6Max has decent locks for the motors… let me know your thoughts and hopefully I can give you my opinion…
Will you make review of new insta 360 flow gimbal?
I filmed a stream last night - in fact all my streams show the same micro shakey footage to the point it offers no stabilisation. I really don’t know how to solve this or make it work 😭
@@MallorcaUnderTheSun are you able to stream using a different camera app, rather than the hohem app? Essentially you use the hohem app to adjust settings to your liking, then use your favourite canera app for the actual video side of the process. Would that be an option?
@@SamuelSotiega it wouldn’t because the main reason I live stream is not just to monitize the stream but really so I can interact with my audience - so that’s why I have to go through the UA-cam app. It would be such a boring video if I couldn’t talk to my viewers along the way and answer their questions 😢
@@MallorcaUnderTheSun i see. Makes sense. If you set the adjustments to slow, do you not get a good and reliably stabilisation?
Hello Samuel, I am from Spain, what stabilizer would you recommend for vertical videos for Instagram, especially landscapes and nature such as rivers, mountains, volcanoes, forests, thank you very much!
I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max! Dji Osmo 6, hohem m6 or zhiyun 5s?
I think either one of these two will give you what you’re looking for. Please watch the section where I speak about vertical vs horizontal in case you fancy one over the other… Have you seen my review of both of them?
My hohem is not good the motor in the swivel motion jerks back and forth before counter balanacing itself. I sent it back to amazon today. Im trying to find the best one for a good price.
Oh no! It might be a faulty unit, will you get a replacement unit?
@@SamuelSotiega I'm not sure which to go with. I've heard a lot of good things about the hohem. It just sucks that my first purchase was a default.
Did you get anywhere with this?
Which gimbal will be suitable for a cheap Android phone? In which I get complete flexibility.
It all depends on which of the features of each of them suit your needs more...
excellent review. thank you!
That you liked it!
Point taken. Thanks for the feedback!
Can either record at 25fps?
Thr Zhiyun app does. The Hohem doesn’t. But with the Hohem you can easily use any 3rd party app, just as easy as the Zhiyun actually. But the Hohem in my opinion is a gimbal thought out to be used with a 3rd party app.
@@SamuelSotiega thanks Samuel
I guess FilmicPro is the app of choice. Would it work in FP with the AI controller? Sorry to bug you with these questions. I certainly appreciate you answering so promptly 😊
Thank you
@@MontenegroRealEstate absolutely!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This video has helped me immensely. Thank you!
Glad you found it useful!
What third party app do you prefer?
I use the blackmagic camera app, and it is free! I did a video recently about it, if interested. I highly recommend it... But at the moment it is iPhone only. Are you iPhone or Android user?
What's the lens you did put on the phone?
@@moribn2887 This gimbal doesn't need the app to operate as you can use your preferred 3rd party app, which will always give you better image quality, better functions and features. That's how I use it, I only use the hohem app for adjusting some settings.... But this is a decision up to you ...
@@SamuelSotiega thank you very much!
@@moribn2887 happy to help!
Thank you for informative video! I purchased Hohem iSteay M6.
I have a question about lock mode at PTF: My gimbal moves downward after releasing trigger (press twice & hold last) while come back again at PTF mode. Is this known issue? Is there any fix?
Are you able to send me a short video? contact details in my about page.
@@SamuelSotiega thank you! I sent you an email. Please have a look.
Hey can you compare this to the new AI
I plan to do a video comparing the M6, the 5S AI, the Feiyutech scorp mini2, the hohem MT2… probably in the second part of July. Off on holidays from tomorrow with the family..
@@SamuelSotiega thanks
I don't know why, but in the "running" comparison I imagined you running like Tom Cruise and holding the gimbal. Sounds funnier imagining than "talking".
I was running full tilt! For a bystander, it must have been an amusing sight... 😂
Bought the Hohem today. Gestures not recognised by Ai module in either direction (front or back), and no support, advice or suggestions from Hohem. I suspect this will be going back tomorrow. A real pity as otherwise the build is impressive.
Oh no!!! Have you tried a sensor reset in the app’s menu to see if that fixes it? What a shame! You’re the first person i hear having any issues with it..
@@SamuelSotiega thanks for your kind reply. I will try that. It’s possible, of course, that I just got a bad copy. Thanks again for the video. Subscribed
Ai power on??
I use it with the Osmo action 3.
