HK416 vs M4

- Can you tell me the difference between this gun and this gun even though both have pretty much identical layouts there is a huge fundamental difference between their firing systems. The M4 carbine is an AR-15 pattern rifle whereas the HK416 is based on the AR-15 with a huge fundamental change for better performance. The M4 works on a direct gas impingement system, in the DI system gas from the traveling bullet is tapped off into a gas tube that runs along the barrel into the receiver it then impinges upon the Boldt Carrier Group pushing it back and cycling the gun, on the other hand, the HK416 works on a short-stroke gas piston system derived from the German G36 rifle in this system gas from the traveling bullet is tapped off into a chamber in the front of the gun where it impinges upon a piston which pushes a rod that causes a short stroke at the bolt carrier group pushing it back and cycling the gun. The 416 was developed as an improvement over the M4. Its short Stroke system makes it Ultra reliable and also less prone to carbon buildup in the chamber as seen in direct impingement guns.

There is a significant weight difference as well. The HK weighs more.
Helps with recoil
@@constantinethecataphract5949the recoil difference is minor since the HK416 is over gassed as fuck
@@totalfailforfun4721 the reliability difference is huge because of that
@@desderihn yea but then at that point just use an over gassed DI AR-15
Not really significant, the 416 weighs more but both are very lightweight rifles.
There's a reason why american tier 1 forces prefer hk416 over m4
Not so much anymore devgru or seal team six is now using noveske DI guns and replacing all of their hk 416 rifles and rumors of delta force doing the same with finding a new replacement. Same as the United Kingdom guys now running DI Knights armament Ks1 rifles.
@@Austinf111🤣👉🏻🇺🇸
Tier one units had unlimited budgets and the HK was all the rage so they got them…now years later they realize they aren’t any better and they want a lighter set up
Its gotten overrated to the point where now the US Marines are using the M27 variant of the hk416. Army is taking a step forward the new rifles chambered in 6.8
@@thelegendaryt-rex4763 M27 is almost 13lbs with all it’s optics, accessories and a 30rd magazine. Call me old school but I’d rather roll with a 200rd 249 and another 800rds in my assault pack.
the difference is that one is a cinnamon roll and the other is all you need

One is DI, one is Piston. Piston operated firearms are considered more reliable.
i honestly thought there are no indian people explaining about gun mechanics so clearly. You proved me wrong brother.
And I just watched Jonathan Ferguson's video on the 416 before watching this short 😂. Great visuals and explanation as always.
The marine Corps recently switched to this platform. Calling it the M27. It is a much cleaner system and performs super well. Great change 👌
That's what i was thinking. It has to be cleaner, but of course with a weight as a trade off. That would improve reliability too. That's my guess.
Good video mate, you should make one for a comparison on the rpk and the akm!

Piston systems are considered better than DI systems because of reliability the pistons on the HK makes it heavier yet it has better recoil and firerate
Not really gas piston guns are never as soft as DI ones. The HK is heavier and that helps but the recoil is snappier than M4s. Plus the HK416 is overgassed. Back in 2000s and early 2010s the reliability factor might have been a valid point but years of refinement have made the reliability more of less the same. The block 2 m4's and the URGI are extremely reliable and accurate.
One thing which the HK416 does do better is run cleaner and cooler suppressed
@@ishaandas3006yeah people pretend like the direct impingement AR platform isn’t one of the single most reliable platforms on the fuckin planet right now

The difference between an
H&K-416 and an M4?
The most part that i think about is that the stock of the 416 is slightly more curved than the M4, which is the handle of the 416 having more like a big curved zig zag. (if you dont understand, the 416 handle looks like a Deagle's handle) Also, the handguard of the 416 is attached to its body. (bad at describing i might say but, you get my point ) And forgot to mention that the iron sights of the 416 is WAY different than the M4. Done explaining this question. So, what do you guys think of the difference between these 2?
And the entire gas system also
416 gas system is base on the ar18 just like its older brother the g36
I thought they were based on the HK G3
@@cbeaudry4646nope,the g3 is similar to the mp5 but large
Short-stroke piston has been used in tokarev since 1938 and that is where ar18 took it.
@@tunaritoope2059 so? Tokarev took it from someone else
@@ej_22 no tokarev invented it.
Amazing explanation, thank you very much!
Ar 15 doesn't work on di system it uses a internal piston system.
die Übersetzung ist etwas schwierig aber am Ende hab ich's ganz verstanden 😁
U know I can't see much difference between the written German and Turkish not the language but it's style of writing
And this is why HK416 starts at $3000+
Semi and full auto switch symbols costs $1000.
What's funny is that this is basically just an ar-18. Which was a complete failure at the time, but the g36 copied its gas system. And this is based of the g36 gas system.
Am I the only one that noticed he M4 turn into a M16
Good observation skills. 😂
It also helps stop cordite from going up your nose.
Idk about the "better performance" part, I'm sure that was the intention but people have really cooled on piston guns, competitive shooters and alot of military/LEO have also moved back away from the gas piston. it was all the rage 10 years ago, but then people realized they are heavy, and they add a HUGE point of failure especially in adverse conditions(mainly cold). Most dudes are back on DI guns now, they just work, have for 70 years.
i love this man
Definitely snappier recoil on the piston systems with more mass moving about but if you need absolute reliability in adverse conditions I suppose pistons > DI
Thank you my dude, now i know
Both weapons are great and reliable.
But HK416 is like a better version of M4.
While the short-stroke piston and other factors make it even more reliable.
The M4 still should be a respected weapon for doing it's job great.
It was made for wars.

"What is the difference between these two rifles?"
One is German and one is cheaper
1. The HK 416 is developed by Heckler & Koch who no longer have to prove their expertise in assault rifles or automatic rifles, the HK G36 and the HK MP5 are proof of this, where the M4 and M16 were manufactured and developed by Colt, but who has a majority experience in handguns and medium-range rifles
2. The HK 416 has an automatic rechambering system by piston and gas, and not only by gas like the M4 or M16, which reinforces its reliability.
3. The HK 416 has a barrel designed for modern combat with Picatinny rails on all four sides of its barrels, with an M-LOK on the upper rail of the HK 416 A5, in addition, this barrel is made and designed for passive cooling, with a ventilated barrel and heat-transfer materials, the muzzle of the barrel is threaded to be able to add an accessory, suppressor, compensator or even flash hider.
4. The HK 416 has an integrated bumpstock and is today massively used by these units and army corps: All French army corps 🇫🇷, the GIGN 🇫🇷, the RAID 🇫🇷, the LAPD SWAT🇺🇸, the Delta Force 🇺🇸, the Norwegian armed forces 🇳🇴 and many others where the M4 and the M16 are losing popularity
This is an assault rifle that I particularly like, it is designed for efficiency and its mechanism is very good without being super complex.
Lots of people saying it’s more reliable, with modern AR pattern rifle that’s pretty much all but a myth. However if you’re using a short barreled, suppressed, full auto carbine then sure the piston system shines.
nice vid man.
Thanks 🤝 consider checking out my newer videos also.
One is american made and the other is perfection.
There's a reason why american tier 1 forces prefer the M4 over the m416
It's not "based on the AR-15 but with a big difference"... It's based on an entirely different weapon... The AR-18
whats better tho?
Got a HK in this picture, I don’t know about other versions because I’ve used the French one as well and it’s a lot heavier than the Norwegian one but the HK never jam. light, easy to clean you can personalize it as you wants and it’s way less bulky than most rifles
I hope some day to be able to afford an HK.
Finally an indian bhai who doesn't calls the m4 carbine a m16
Company difference is the m4 was made by colt and the hk416 is made by heckler and koch

Heckler and kush is more stable and low recoil with high accuracy assault rifle❤
Doesnt AK47 also works on a similar principle? So HK416 is just an Ak in an AR 15 platform?
Nope the AK uses a long stroke piston.
The hk is piston while the m4 is gas operated used both i prefer the m4
The funny thing is that if you watch "meltdown" videos of AR15 rifles, the Piston rifles malfunction and stop shooting before the DI rifles do. Eugene Stoner knew what he was doing.
What did he say?
Less parts less maintenance
To me the biggest difference is the price!!

goddamn the accent
OK ..this english accent is really hard listen 😂
the m4 system is already plenty reliable. the hk416 is more reliable in SOME circumstances than the m4/m16 but there’s also scenarios where it’s a worse choice. the AR15 system is already exceptionally reliable as proven by it being used by dozens of countries en masse and it being the standard issue rifle of the US and canada for literally 50 years
Gas impingement rifles are lighter, more accurate, have less moving parts and will keep firing even when covered in mud.
Piston rifles are only better when they are suppressed, with barrels less than 10 inches...
It's much more expensive and it's effective range is only 300m, compared to 500~600m for M4.
"Better" is subjective because M4 is great for both CQB and long range engagements.
What's your reasoning behind your claim that the M4 is better at long distances?
Both copied of ak47 or stg 44
