Once I followed the instructions that you left on this video, I ended up having extremely good results with Airlink and Virtual Desktop. Before this, I was using my ISP's router that had a 5Ghz band, but it didn't have WiFi 6 or 6E. I also found that my speed on this new "access point" was significantly faster than using my home network. Your tutorial really helped alot and I no longer have to be tethered when I play on my Quest 2!
You may wish to disable packet coalescing. It improves the smoothness of the latency at a slight cost to throughput. Coalescing is a hold/wait/merger of multiple packets to be sent all at once, where as you probably want new data meant for the quest ASAP.
"Coalescing the interrupts amounts to a wait which will enhance throughput but degrade latency. Disabling the Interrupt Coalescing and thus forcing the NIC to interrupt the CPU for each packet will provide the minimal latency but lower throughput."
You are a lifesaver. Not only are you the first of various video tutorials that actually explains the relation/connection of your PC's ethernet cable and how the wifi is provided through mobile hotspot, but you also showed the solution for that weird bug. It is feb 2024 and that is still there! I was seeing 268 mbps on my quest 3 and after connecting my phone to the mobile hotspot, it jumped to 1200.

The numbers seem correct and starting steamVR is a laggy mess. I have no idea what to do about this. I've tried almost everything
I FIXED MY ISSUE!! For people having issues with creating the 5Ghz hotspot in Windows 10, the issue was my region settings in Windows. You see, intel and Microsoft have a regional limitation issue in some countries that forbids certain WiFi bands to be broadcasted in a specific way. See here for more details: www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000029083/wireless/intel-wireless-products.html. TLDR is that in OP's video, he is Swedish, so in his situation his Windows region settings is set to Sweden. So by chance I changed my windows region settings to Sweden, but kept my language to English (So I can use the PC haha) and rebooted my PC, and Voilà! I can create the 5Ghz WiFi hotspot directly in Windows hotpot settings. Oh and just so you know, the region settings in Windows 10 are found under Settings > Time & Language > Region > Country or region. Hope this helps someone!!
That doesn't do anything for me. But I was able to get it to work. First I set my home 5Ghz router network(e.g. Homewifi-5Ghz) to channel 149(153, 157, 161 ,165 are also ok. Low-end routers may not have these options), connect my PC to said 5Ghz network. My PC was already connected to the same router via cable, so very few data travels through this wireless connection. Then I was able to setup a 5Ghz hotspot sharing the wifi network (shown as WLAN in the drop down menu). Because the actual network traffic goes through Ethernet cable, my headset can connect to my PC uninterrupted. Connecting to a Wifi network also seems to eliminate the issue of Windows searching for new network which causes very bad stuttering.
@@el_taiito5492 just tried again and it works now! I connected Phone and while it was still connected, I also connected the Quest and I see 900-1200mbps! Then I disconnected my phone.

This works perfectly for me thanks a lot! I also don't have a Wifi 6 capable smartphone or something else. What I did was connect my phone via 5Ghz(Wifi5), disconnected it, connected the Quest 2 and multiple times turned Wifi on the Quest 2 on/off. It started to go higher every time I switched it off/on. All the way from 286mb/s to 1200mb/s. Hope it helps! Edit: Can play smoothly with 150mb/s set on fixed bitrate in Air Link. If I go higher than that tracking can't catch up. If I play Beat Saber for example the sabers are too slow. If someone has some settings/tricks please just comment but I think that is pretty much max bitrate the adapter can handle right now. Also if someone knows how we can bypass the 20mhz limitaton on the windows hotspot please tell me!

I'm trying to make it work on fresh Windows 11 (Region USA) with different drivers but with no success yet. I get the message "selected network band is not available..."
Exactly what I was searching for, great video
Bro you are a HERO, my motherboard come with wi-fi 6e antena, all runing much better than my wi-fi 6 router, i play Automobilista 2 on VD on ultra settings 120hz, 150mbps and get 36ms latency and 2-3ms networking. Soooo smoooth, never had this experience with my router on any settings.
Hi, have you tried playing iracing with your built it wifi method?
@@glennnsanity4091 Hi, no i dont tried iracing, but if your FPS is stable in VR mode then you won't have any problems.
This worked great on my Oculus Quest 2! Thanks!
Like Wifi 6? Wifi 6e is going to be the game changer in VR. Look up the difference when it comes to latency, etc. Coming soon.
Yes, mate! So freaking excited about that! I'm gonna get a WiFi 6e router for sure! Gonna be pricy but it's all about the latency :D Fingers crossed Quest 2 or 3 will take advantage of it.
I believe the XR2 chip that Quest 2 uses only has support for Wifi 6, not 6E
@@joos3D Yes thats right but its coming to routers soon and hopefully to the next generation of VR headsets shortly after that.
fingers crossed!
When will this be available in Windows? I already have a Wifi 6E card on my mainboard.
Thanks for this video! I can use my headset properly finally!
Hey thanks for making this video! I have some very weird scenario where I have to use my phone as my internet source, so I ended up using an USB-C from my phone to my PC and used tethering, then mobile hotspot from my computer to the quest, and with your tricks it ended up working perfectly, even on Windows 11, 3 years later.
I am amazed how well this works its just like having it plugged in with a cable got it maxed at 200 mbps fixed no lag or issues
But it can be 960mbps
Love this setup. I don't have a quest 2 yet but this makes me feel a lot better about how it will perform and not having to spend money on a new router. I tried connecting my Steam Link this way and it's never performed better than this over wifi. Also, the configuration logic setting persisted between restarts for me.
Quick note, apperantly disabling autoconfig will actually stop you from connecting to wifi networks at all, so make sure you can enable it quickly if you use wireless networks on your computer at any point.
@@Woogoo336 I was able to create a script that re-enables the Wi-Fi scanning when needed. do the same thing but only with this text:
netsh wlan set autoconfig enabled=yes interface="Wi-Fi"
Just tried this out with my quest 2 and WOW it works great. Just need to get a better wifi card for my system. :)
Amazing video, can finally play H3VR fluidly! Thank you!
So this worked for you? I'm hoping to do the same specifically for H3VR as well!
The download link for the script is expired pls update
Hey man, ive been using this setup for months and Its been great. I really appreciate you for making this turorial. However, ever since my quest 2 has updated to v30 my bandwidth from my network card in VD has been bad, nowhere near 1200Mbps. Any idea what migh have caused this?
Using a hotspot. ;)
You can get a WIFI 6 - wifi extender for under $100 and it works flawlessly. easier to setup than a router, just push button, it connects to your home router, plug cable to your computer, boom WIFI 6 connection for your Quest link and your wifi Card for your PC is upgraded. (two for the price of one)
Can u demo this with air link?
quick question- when connecting your phone to the new hotspot does the phone need to support wifi 6 too or can one that does wifi 5 work also?
have you found an answer to this?
It's backwards compatible, most cards have n/ac/ax. Most new phones support ac. If you don't choose ax only you're ok.
So for whatever reson when im setting 802.11a/b/g Wirless Mode to 1. 5Ghz 802.11a it just wont let me create any hotspot. I have the same wifi card as you. im on win 11
Link to script isn'T available can you upload again?
Thank u for this it works so well on windows 11 too :)
Hi Just wanted to thank you, I did decide to take the risk and get the pci wifi and with your fixes everything works perfectly, comparing to the horrible router performance this is so much better, just to add I have rift S and vive, but the cable is so annoying. Also I am using quest 1 and it works as well:)
Can you please share again that file? The link in the video desc is no longer working
After doing this my wifi on my pc doesn't work at all
EDIT: It does work! If the script won't start the hotspot for you, just paste the commands one by one on the powershell. Then connect and disconnect your phone to the hotspot and voilà! A few moments ago it was unplayable and now the networking latency rarely surpasses 60ms. There are still spikes though, but now it's playable.
Thank you Sir I've been trying to figure this out for a while
You are most welcome, sir! :)
Just so people know, he later did a video showing how an old WiFi 5 router is just as good
WeTransfer scripts not available, it says transfer expired. Is there another location available?
Is there a chance you could reupload the script? Many thanks man, appreciate the tutorial
Hey, nice video!
Unfortunately i can't unlock the full 160MHz of the Adapter...
If i create the AP, first the WiFi Scanner on my phone recognize the network with 20MHz. After connecting the phone (Google Pixel 6 Pro), it shows 80MHz. Do you know, what i can do, to unlock the full 160MHz?
@7:59 Excellent, thanks... I've always wanted to tell my PC I'm a "Rum-Ass Administrator"! Never knew it was even possible! ;)
English is my second language ;)
thanks for video, but don't work for Meta Quest 3, speed stacks on 286 mbs or less 5hGz, and its all... nothing helps, deside to by router
Download expired, got a new link mate?
Genius. I just checked my Lenovo Legion 5 Pro has WiFi 6... will try this right now :)
Using laptop with Wifi 6 as hotspot was lagging. With 5Ghz connection through router was perfect for me.
Guys the lag spike fix command for VD does not turn on when turning off your pc and it makes it so you can't search for any wifi connections so just turn it on once you stop playing or just turn it on when turning on your computer again
THIS SAVED ME THANK YOU!!!!
links for your scripts are no longer avalible? can you re-upload them again
does this work with regular airlink?
The link is expired, could you make another link for it?
It's been a few years since you made the video. Is this still a good solution?
What a killer tutorial, well done. Ax210 owners enable Dual Band 802.11 a/g. for Wireless Mode. Thanx again! : )
Mine always defaults to 2.4 instead of 5ghz any idea how to fix this have ax 210 built into mobo
Does anyone have the script that can pass it to me here?
The link died.
This setup helped me out with a different card (aorus GC-WBAX210) to max out the wireless connection speed. Thank you!
If it helps anybody, I wrote down the device manager settings. These also worked for me.

Great tutorial!
an wifi6 router isnt expensive at all, if that's expensive then the quest2 is beyond affordable.
I'm use redmi ax5 router (cost me 65AUD=40USD) next to my feet, with VD and pico4 and a 3080, i feel like i am lucky to be born in the era, it is just dream and sweetness all together, what a time to be alive.
Hey Sebvr, my smartphone has only wifi 5 so i cant connect to my hotspot. do you have any ideas? You should mention this before others buy a card....
Connect it anyway as it still fixes the issue he shows in the video. I know have a iPhone 6+ and it works fine connecting to it and it does resolve the driver bug he talks about.
@@FinlessBob you can't connect a phone who has only wifi 5 (802.11ac) chip. You can't see it. It's technically impossible.
@@freizeith Incorrect! I connected my iPhone 6+ just fine. In the card settings if you enable ONLY AX then you are correct. This card supports all version of WIFI by default.
Yes I only mean ax. Anyway I bought a 5ghz router and I am happy with it.
Thanks man this helped so much
awesome!
Thanks! Going with my onboard wifi 6 for Quest 3 instead of getting a new router.
does this work? and airlink as well?
I tested my phone connection to the onboard and it's actually slower. Didn't try airlink. Maybe it's a win11 bug.@@miSta1982
Nice tutorial. Although I dont have wifi 6, it works perfectly on my 5ghz laptop card.
Great guide, thank you for this :D
You're welcome! :)
Great video! Well worthy of a sub!
I'm having this problem, whenever I start up virtual desktop to check my bitrate, it's really high for a second, over 800, then quickly drops down eventually landing on 8 mbps and never budging from there. The numbers seem correct and starting steamVR is a laggy mess. I have no idea what to do about this. I've tried almost everything
Try turning off automatic bitrate
What's the dashboard show the latecy you have on the screen during alyx?
awesome thanks dude!!
Try putting the shortcut in the startup folder buy running Run (Win+R) and type shell:startup
Connecting phone to hotspot didn't unlock 1200mbps. Still stuck on 280mbps. Any ideas?
maybe try another one if you can, works with my S20FE
@@el_taiito5492 I connected with S22 but didn't work. You just connected and then disconnected right?
@@Jodez23 Yes exactly
@@el_taiito5492 just tried again and it works now! I connected Phone and while it was still connected, I also connected the Quest and I see 900-1200mbps! Then I disconnected my phone.
after some testings, the speed is shown as 1200mbps in the Quest 2 Wifi settings for the hotspot, but in reality I can't go more than 200mbps
this is great as I just got a pimped out pc with a wifi 6E network card. I normally play with the router but the signal is not the best downstairs. I did all you suggested but the only difference is that Im using the oculus app on the pc and will not connect to it with air link. The headset connects to the wifi card fine and the app shows in connect but when I try to airlink it kicks it out. Have you ever tried this? Is it the app or somthing I'm not doing. (windows 11 also) Thanks!
Holy crap I totally forgot you can do this, I was lookin into buy a Wifi 6 Router but I have a MSI MPG Z490 GAMING CARBON motherboard that's Wi-Fi 6 and an Oculus Quest 2 in the mail. Will definitely try this out. Thanks
Awesome! You're in for a treat! :D
@@Virtual_Pants have this setup but the hotspot keep turning off 30-60s every time?
Brilliant!
You don't need a wifi 6 phone. I connected with 5Ghz ac phone and it worked. go figure!
Nice video I was trying to do everything you did I even buy the same card as you did and every time I connect to the hotspot for some reason I can't connect to my computer only when I connect to my router I don't know what to do I'm kinda stuck. Any tips will be appreciated thanks
My issue is i can connect to any other device apart from my pc, i bought a usb that makes my pc adaptable to 5ghz but my oculus says its in "Wifi 6" i believe my pc is in wifi 5 and was wondering how id make my oculus wifi 5 so i can stream to my pc.
Can i connect my Quest 2 to my laptop with airlink in offline mode?
