I genuinely didn't expect this place to be as bad as it was for the price... would you stay here? Would really appreciate you checking you're definitely subscribed, getting close to 70k subs now, let's see if we can get there by the weekend, cheers!
The biggest problem people have with Britannia is their habit of buying beautiful historic hotels and letting them go mouldy and disgusting. Places like the Adelphi in Liverpool really should be lovingly maintained but have been allowed to get filthy and unloved.
They seem maintain the public areas of these buildings - the entrance halls, reception, bars and restaurants....But at the expense of the rest of the building, and the rooms.
"I love it when they tell you how to flush a toilet, really holds the people who stay here in high regard". 2 minutes earlier **struggles to put key in door** I dunno Ed... ;)
Used to work for Britannia Hotels and have stayed in a few over the years. They essentially buy hotels from companies like Hilton / Marriott (hence why a lot of them will have lots of facilities like pools, spas, etc) invest no money into them and just slowly run them into the ground over time and do nothing about it. I have also worked in 3 separate hotels when I was there and all of them were severely understaffed in every area. They are a shocking company and do not care at all about the state the hotels they own are in.
I just started watching you recently - I took you so seriously at first, now I literally cant stop tearing up with laughter while watching! You're geniunally my favorite youtuber rn.
Ed..... you sir are the gift that keeps on giving, followed you for over a year now. And crave your videos, I've mentioned before that my 8 yr old son loves watching and it's got to a point now that he pesters me on when you next video is out 🤣🤣🤣 Keep doing your thing man. I'll be honest I do love when you and Ellis team up. With the footy back on, the people demand more 👌👌👌
I've seen enough videos of people staying at Britannia Hotels to know that not only does the company completely fail to maintain the hotels, many of which are amazing old historic buildings, but they don't even clean them properly. Almost every review video I've ever seen includes carpets that aren't vacuumed and are covered in stains, stained and mouldy windows, walls and curtains, and filthy bathrooms. It's like the company genuinely doesn't care.
Jeez read this on Wikipedia On 10 September 2022, a 21-year-old woman was crushed to death by a wardrobe whilst staying at the Britannia Adelphi hotel They really are an awful chain
The problem I find with Ed and his channel, is how the fuck he only has 70K subscribers, I expected to check and see millions upon millions, so if you haven’t subbed already, subscribe, Ed deserves it! Keep it up Ed, you’ll blow up soon enough.
He's started picking up a little steam particularly from about 40-70k so hopefully one of his videos will hit the algorithm at the right time and it keeps picking up pace
As of March 2024, Alex Langsam, (Transtaled SLOW) an octogenarian hotel tycoon, owns Britannia Hotels. Langsam has been called the "Asylum King" because of the record profits his company has made from housing asylum seekers. In 2022-2023, Britannia Hotels made £107,000 in profit per day, £39,055,000 yr end 2023. Britannia Hotels is a privately owned company with 60 hotels across the UK, including locations in city centers, on the seafront, and in the countryside. The hotels have more than 10,000 bedrooms and offer restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and health and leisure clubs. Britannia Hotels also owns Pontins, a British company that operates holiday parks in the UK.
Hearing that Britannia own Pontins makes so much sense after we stayed in the ever tired Norbreck castle and attempted to stay at Southport Pontins in the same week... (We left Pontins after 30 minutes after we were given the key to a chalet that people were already occupying and then our new chalet was dirty and run down... We really didn't feel safe)
The hotel in Scarborough appears to have so much seagull guano on the windowsills it looks like it has snowed. The building itself is massive but I’ve never seen anyone come in or go out.
They did put us up at one of their hotels for the Christmas party, and it was perfectly acceptable. We also got free sandwiches/salads for lunch, and those were certainly no worse than any other white bread sandwiches I've had.
I used to use the Britania in nottingham for nights out, because it was cheaper than a taxi home and by the time i got back i was way too drunk to care about the aesthetics.
The issue with Britannia hotels is that they tend to buy old historic buildings that need a huge amount of upkeep and renovation but ultimately they're a budget hotel chain. Good on them for buying these buildings and making sure they're not destroyed, but as a business model I'm not sure it works. Because of the sheer scale and grandeur of the buildings and not being able to spend vast sums of money aa budget chain, renovating them is a never ending task. What a lot of their hotels need to survive, sadly, is for a huge chain with lots of money to burn to take them on, close them down potentially for a year or two and do everything from from top to bottom in one go. Expensive to do but would result in all upmarket hotel. Ultimately I've got to respect Britannia for trying to save these buildings, and i can forgive shabbyness here and there. The poor cleanliness however is unforgivable.
I stayed at the Grand Burstin (another Britannia Hotel) in Folkstone once, it made that one look like a palace. Strangely, the breakfast there, like yours, was quite good.
No. No-one needs to stay there, trust me. I will never forget my "view" of a brick wall and though I was a smoker at the time, even I was knocked sick by the fug of B&H that clung to my clothes. I live in Manchester but my ( then) bf had just got out of Strangeways after a 3 so wanted a shagfest ....served me right really. He was as rotten as the room 😕
Ok, so you can't understand that if you want hotter water you should turn the knob further AND you can't understand inserting a card the way the arrows on the card tell you to? When did Britain get rid of leaded petrol?
Caught this one a month late but you TOTALLY have to go to the Adelphi in Liverpool. It is part of the Britannia hotels chain Gives horrendous titanic/the shining vibes
I would say school canteen food is better than this. Britannia Hotels are the kinda places where even the most ardent anti-migration lot would think "Actually it would be a crime against humanity to put migrants in a place for geriatrics on borrowed time, who still eat like they're being rationed"
The guy who is the owner of Britannia hotels lives around the corner from me in a massive house which is a bit run down. It’s run down because he is so stingy shown in his terrible state of his hotels aswell but he has quite a lot of money for how stingy he is. Plus he is in his 80s and very old seen him walking his dog down my road.
You NEED to stay in a hotel called Faulty Towers in Great Yarmouth. It's insane how that place is still running, when I stayed, everything was broken, moth eaten and dindgy, plus the photos on their website are nothing like reality 😂
The coach company parked out the front I used to work for (Coachstyle) We did a lot of work gor Majestic Holidays and I unfortunately have had a lot of experience with Britannia hotels in my time. Compared to some the Leeds Bradford Airport hotel wasn't too bad, trust me some are a lot worse. Royal Court Coventry my window wouldn't close in the middle of winter and the bed was tiny and I mean tiny! A heated family argument in the foyer which lasted for over an hour. I resorted to sleeping on the backseat of my coach in my sleeping bag that night. Next on the shit list has to be The Grand Burstin (Worstin) in Folkestone. Trust me don't go there without first having been vaccinated against every known disease.
I do sometimes defend Britannia a little bit as you tend to get what you pay for, but the price you paid for this one is ridiculous, expecially given its an airport hotel. We stay at Bosworth Hall & Spa in the midlands a few times a year and generally enjoy it there... but the cheaper rooms are usually about £60 for the night (and thats a saturday night usually). The rooms are tired but generally clean and although there is a surcharge for using the pool and spa, we've never actually been charged it for some reason... reception say its not included but then the reception at the spa tend to wave us through when they know we are staying at the hotel. Not had dinner there but the breakfats decent enough. I've also stayed at The Adelphi in Liverpool, again cheap and cheerful. Tired and in need of updating but for the money its not so bad,. That said, if I was paying what you paid, I'd be livid.
Ok, you made me feel really old when you asked who has EVER sent a postcard! I'm like, ummm, me. I did! In the early 90s. Mostly to my Grandma, from France!
I think it really depends on which Britannia hotel you go to. If it's a reasonably modern building you might be OK, but heaven forbids if it's in a bad state like the Norbreck in Blackpool or The Grand Burstin in Folkstone, those are absolutely dismal. Brittania really saves on the maintenance and it shows (tbf it also shows in the vid... that hair dryer holster...)
Brittania hotels own Pontins most sites delapidated or closed Own the grand hotel in Scarborough, worst hotel in the UK Doors are always a fucker to open (stayed in a few) Extra pillows asked for on 4 occasions when staying, 3 times needed to go back to reception to mask again. 1 key card for 2 guests in the same room. I went back early and fell asleep. Girlfriend had to find booking info to be allowed in at 3am slightly drunk. Honestly though only use if you have to or just need a place to stay for a dirty night
That place is amazing compared to brittania in Edinburgh.upon entering our room we gad blood and coffee up the door..a pink bathroom suite with unwashed bath complete with mouldy tiles and grout.bedding was that bad we got wrapped up in our coats. Had a beautiful view of some generators tho.your tv was amazing ,we had a gorgeous piece of ply wood screwed to the wall complete with what resembled a mobile phone attached to it or at least that's how big the screen was...you got a massive let off Ed..
I once went to the Britania in Manchester for a carvery and I swear down there was mold on my gateaux. I mentioned it to the waiter and I got a free drink. I wish I could post the photo. I agree with this video, it was like care home food and everyone eating was over 60.
I think the actual hotel that gives them the main bad rep is the Adelphi, which they operate in Liverpool...it's actually a really interesting place to visit; elements of its former glory are all over the place...just the guest experience and rooms leave a lot to be desired.
Never stayed in a Britannia. Used to drink in the bar if the one un the center of Coventry when i was a student. Cheap drinks, and comfy seats: good place to start the night
Another great video from the man himself. Who would want to pay all that money to stop in a very basic room with hard marshmallows in the fridge lol 😆 Thanks for staying there, so we don't have to We love you Ed x
Definitely a coach party hotel. Did this used to be a Holiday Inn or even a Mecure? Hence the luxury of photo copying. But yes, it could do with a ruddy good clean. The green jumper is such a huge move from the grey t shirts, looks great.
I genuinely didn't expect this place to be as bad as it was for the price... would you stay here? Would really appreciate you checking you're definitely subscribed, getting close to 70k subs now, let's see if we can get there by the weekend, cheers!

Have to ask why do you only wear your glasses in the morning wen you wake up? Also I feel you was ripped off
a half eaten bag of flumps in the fridge, madness
The biggest problem people have with Britannia is their habit of buying beautiful historic hotels and letting them go mouldy and disgusting. Places like the Adelphi in Liverpool really should be lovingly maintained but have been allowed to get filthy and unloved.
Same as the one in Birmingham. Big beautiful building yet left to rot.
They seem maintain the public areas of these buildings - the entrance halls, reception, bars and restaurants....But at the expense of the rest of the building, and the rooms.
Sprowston manor in Norwich as well
Bought the hilton resort in aviemore scotland.destroyed it
"Flumps in a fridge" may be your most Peep Show-esque moment yet, haha
Flumps in a fridge, Jeremy??
Haha, totally.
no it was showing his hairy crack to someone in the pool🎉🎉🎉🎉😂😂😂😂
Actually laughed out loud when Ed said that!
hug in a mug
awfully judgy of those needing flushing instructions when you fell at the first hurdle of a keycard
And his history of getting showers to work.
"I love it when they tell you how to flush a toilet, really holds the people who stay here in high regard".
2 minutes earlier **struggles to put key in door**
I dunno Ed... ;)
The way Britannia treats it's hotels especially the historic ones should be treated as criminal
I'm staying at the Hilton in the centre of Birmingham tomorrow night and that cost me £80. To charge £100 for that shit hole in LEEDS is absurd!
The WIFI is a bump too, Travelodge charges £3 for a maximum of 2 devices.
Used to work for Britannia Hotels and have stayed in a few over the years. Ed you have to put out more and more content buddy ! I could listen to your quirky ways all day everyday. Legend
Hilarious, one of your best videos. "He saw my crack" "who keeps Flumps in a fridge" LOL
I just started watching you recently - I took you so seriously at first, now I literally cant stop tearing up with laughter while watching! You're geniunally my favorite youtuber rn.
£132 is daylight robbery for that place!
Honestly, it looked so much like my nan's old care home that I was expecting to see a safety rail in the shower 😂
Mine too! 😂
Not Ed out here seeing three arrows on his key card and not even considering flipping the card around and trying it with them facing the lock...
literally screaming at my monitor
Even so having stayed in the one in Manchester 3 times I've had to go to reception 4 times to get a new one and made out it was my fault
"I'd rather go crack first, than ball first!" Hahaha. Is there something you wanted to share with us, Ed?!! 🤣🤣🤣
Flumps in a fridge, is that the kid friendly sequel to Snakes on a Plane? 😂
Brittania Hotels Postcard "Wish you were here... instead of me"

Agreed 😂
its like grumpy old man tries hotels, your the youngest oldman on youtube....i love your content lol keep up the good work :)
Flumps in the fridge confuses me more than rocket science could. I mean, how dare you.
I almost choked on my Pringles when he was talking about some guy seeing his hairy crack 😂😂😂😂
didnt know toiletries had a flavour😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 ed you are hilarious
Ed has entered Hell by staying at a Britannia Hotel 😂
Great video again ed. Contents been going from strength to strength
"Heavily stained leaflet" I do like my information delivered in a dirty fashion 😂
Killing these videos Ed. You’re awesome! The amount of effort you put in is evident (in a good way😅)
Loving the series of ‘worst rated’! Binged loads of your videos this week! Brilliant videos lad!
Suppose it's better than that time when you stayed in that metro Inn, in Stockton on tees and someone broke in your room at 6am 😂😂
Been subbed for a while. Always enjoy your content but this one made me roar with laughter 😂

You need to try the twin jewels in the Crown of Britannia disappointment - their Blackpool and Scarborough branches...
The hotel in Scarborough appears to have so much seagull guano on the windowsills it looks like it has snowed. The building itself is massive but I’ve never seen anyone come in or go out.
Nobody puts Flumps in the fridge, they don't belong in the fridge.😂😂
I used to work backstage for this company. Their headquarters is in Hale, and the hotel is possibly the least posh thing about that village.
They did put us up at one of their hotels for the Christmas party, and it was perfectly acceptable. We also got free sandwiches/salads for lunch, and those were certainly no worse than any other white bread sandwiches I've had.
as always had me laughing the whole way through! 😂 'just had a shower, not sure I feel any cleaner 😂
Always check the inside of the kettle, how clean or dirty the inside says a lot.. 😂 also check the mattress for bed bugs 😂

Jesus Christ £130 for a Britannia in Leeds the one in Manchester is £50 on an expensive day wtaf
You should stay at the Sacha Britannia in Manchester. That one's only £38!
This review is hilarious. I like your style. And I am most definitely not staying at their hotels when I go to London this year.
£132 is mental, and having to pay extra for internet 😮
You're not kidding. I stayed in a hilton last weekend for less than £60 😂
£103 a night. Dinner and breakfast are extra.
@@mediterraneandiet2483still not worth it
Ewwwww, my skin is crawling, the whole place eekkkkk. Another banger, cheers ED! Hope you get to 70k this weekend! ❤❤
Unguarded Gateau is the absolute dream!
Flumps in a Fridge - great name for a punk band.
I stayed at the Grand Burstin (another Britannia Hotel) in Folkstone once, it made that one look like a palace. Strangely, the breakfast there, like yours, was quite good.

The funniest thing about Britannia Edinburgh is the stay puft marshmallow man cosplaying hotel manager, though.
Try going to Hong Kong and staying in a coffin apartment looks very interesting
Thanks for enduring this Ed👍 Ive now booked my stay at Britannia Hotels 👍
go to norbreck castle in blackpool. It is like an old folks home
