Sprouting Chestnuts For Spring Planting

Chestnuts require cold stratification in which the seeds are subjected to near-freezing temperatures for at least a few weeks. This can be done here as we are doing outside or even in the refrigerator. Since fridge space is extremely valuable in our house we decided to simply keep them outside with some protection from freezing.
