It was indeed an informative video. This should be in Hindi as well, as so many viewers don't understand English and this is something everybody should who is planning his next trek.
I would like to add that though you might feel dizzy and nausea, mostly the symptoms would subside in 30 minutes or so. Do not panic if you start feeling the same. If the symptoms don't subside, Diamox does help a lot.
I contacted a severe case of high altitude sickness this summer at 10,000 - 11,000 feet in Colorado. My blood oxygen levels fell below 90 percent. Using an Inogen portable oxygen concentrator I was able to get my levels back up to 95-97 percent. Unfortunately, I was not aware of Diamox. Would you recommend using the concentrator plus Diamox next time I want to go to altitude? Trout are waiting!
Understand that AMS can hit anyone from any age group, but will still want to ask if my 5yr old can travel with me to Tonglu/Tumling for a night or two by car in feb?
Hi swathi...planing for stok this August , i m a heart patient had undergone angio plast nine years back after that did many treks including chadar... need suggestions on stok.
Hi Abhirut, we have been using Sennheiser microphones and haven't faced any issues. We can hear the video clearly on most of the systems we have used. Could you please try watching on another system?
I know what this is. The microphones are fine but the loss in fidelity is due to the slightly overdone noise reduction and compression performed on the audio file. This can be avoided by reducing the degree of noise reduction on the audio-video software and let some of the ambient noise remain untouched. I'm a filmmaker and I deal with audio-video related work on a daily basis :) You're producing great content, Swathi, these videos are very informative and helpful.
Hi Swathi,,it is great knowledge u shared,,thank u ...i m going to leh with two kids 10/13 year old... would u suggest how and when to use oxygen can,,, should we carry it,,,
Hi Shweta, you don't need to carry oxygen cylinders with you. Just make sure you get enough time to acclimatise after going to Leh before climbing higher up in altitude. Which means stay at Leh for at least a night, or two nights before travelling to higher altitudes. Keep a strip of Diamox with you in case you feel any symptoms of AMS.
So basically it happens due to high altitude n due to high altitude there is less amount of oxygen to inhale right? if thats so carry oxygen cylinders to stay away from AMS
So on a trek where a persons priority is to not bulk on things.. where a person is choosing a cloth or bottle or any other thing just cus its weighs 50gms less.. you are saying that you should just take oxygen cylinder? Bravo mate .
Because knowledge about AMS amongst trekkers is scarce. And yet, it's one of the top reasons for death in the trekking circles. Just plain knowledge can save lives, and we want people to have that knowledge.

What about when we are trekking alone in himalaya? We don't have anyone to talk about.
Gud question, I was also thinking same
Stupid question...if you are not secured alone...you are not secured any ways in your life
For your satisfaction...you may hire a porter and learn the local language and cuisines
It's your choice if you want to go on solo trekking or in group if you are going alone then there is no option for talking
Is it absolutely necessary to start a course of diamox?
No, it's not. It depends on how much altitude you're going to gain and how high you're doing to climb. You must decide based on that.
I stay in Delhi NCR and I need it for hard treks.,..it differs from body to body
In what extent rainfall is responsible for AMS?
Hi Biswajit, from our studies there isn't much of a co-relation between rainfall and AMS. It's more to do with altitude and acclimatization.

Ah thank you! But we already bought one. This is a very old video. :)
These places would be wonderful if we don't use these gadgets and start using information from the local Porters
Acute mountain sickness explained by a 5 year old: you know when you find a mountain that looks so cute it makes you sick to your stomach.
