    ROFLMFAO!!!! Definitely don't want a limp rod!!!! There are some things I like a little bit more on the Gen V then I do on the previous Gens.

    2 questions I have: oil pump alignment and double checking cam timing.

    • @paragonengines1924
      @paragonengines1924  Рік тому +2

      The oil pump is aligned off of the crank and the bolts have plastic alignment dowels that center the bolts in the pump. I degree the cam in every motor that I build, but I decided that is for a whole other video.

      Aligning the oil pump is only necessary when reusing the old pump due to being worn. New ones, you don’t have to.

    curious why, on the front cover, the standard gasket isn't used and silicone instead. that gasket would take up some of that bolt space. ...or am i operating on gen3/4 knowledge here?

    • @funfun8095
      @funfun8095 Рік тому +3

      Factory uses silicone, no gasket. Unlike LS. Plus, wouldn't make up enough clearance for a bolt being too long.

    • @paragonengines1924
      @paragonengines1924  Рік тому +5

      Yes, silicone only on the gen 5 engines. It's only an issue if you use the wrong bolt. I have had to fix them in the past, so it is a good PSA.

      My guess is the fit is so much better.And the machine work that using a gasket would just mess that up for the old pump.Seal to seal in everything to fit right with a good Fit tolerance. Any machine part that use a silicone like that is d*** neara sealed fit without any silicone. You're basically just filling in any imperfections and literally the milling bit marks.
      I'm no machinist, but my guess.

    I have a 2004 LS 6.0 I just tore down for a mild performance build. It's going in my 2005 Silverado 2500 HD. I don't think I will be re using the stock Rods & Pistons. The cylinders are shiny and in certain angles of light I can see the factory hone scratches in the cylinders. The bottom part of the cylinders, where the pistons have not traveled has a bit of build up, contemplating what to do about that. Thinking of buying Steel crank, rods & Forged Pistons. No machine work done, all Main and Rod bearings looked good. Cam bearings were worn a bit and the front Cam bearing has a crack in it. So far I have a new BTR cam Valve springs & stem seals with most of the Gaskets. Any thoughts about the Cylinder Bore preparations ? All Bearings will be replaced. Very nice part one and two Videos !

    Great video the torque specs might have been Good to know as you went along. I’m looking to rebuild one that the cam lifter collapsed on. I will definitely use this video as our assemble mine. Where would you get those specs for torque numbers?

    How does the oil pick up tube/oil pump screen work without an O ring? Is it supposed to be snug when going in?

    Do these cranks have offset bushings/washings that go between the hub/sprocket and the crank or does the sprocket just mate straight to it ? I only ask because I don’t remember mine having any and the timing chain kits some have them and some don’t

    • @paragonengines1924
      @paragonengines1924  4 місяці тому

      I believe we used the stock bearings, as they had no wear. But we have replaced quite a few cam bearings on these motors in the past.

    Really should have washed off the cosmoline from the cam, before lubing it and installing. You didn't clean it off the lifters, either! LOL Those chain tensioners are very prone to breaking, also. Should just use the standard plastic ones. SMH

    • @paragonengines1924
      @paragonengines1924  Рік тому +13

      I cleaned the cam off camera. I'm not worried about the light oil the lifters are coated in, there is no damaging debris on them out of the individual plastic packaging. There also isn't a solid plastic version for a gen 5, so that isn't an option. Anything else I missed?
