As a closed door disciple of the CCK TCPM Grandmaster, Sifu Hua Yen Li, and now, decades later, a lover of Hard QiGong training today, this video brought back many memories and much laughter! Were we crazy? Did we really pay this guy to hit us with sticks 52 times a day? It's definitely not for everyone. But as my Sifu said, if you don't do this, you will lose all your kung fu when you get old. If you DO this, you will get only stronger until the day you die... My Sifu was correct, of course! @@Vahvafitness Yeah kind of the same thing. Maybe not use bamboo sticks but for most people trying to do 10 roundhouse kicks on a bag per day is good enough to start conditioning their shins. Then whats the point? Just unintentional pain to oneself? So these people are either borderline psychotic? Or they just love pain, also some of those Muay Thai fighters have shin bones like steel rods because they kick banana trees all day so at least they do it for a sport :) Also the video is titled - HARDEN BONE KUNG FU, so either you're lying......or they are hahaha!
I have been practicing bone hardening for several months now and I finally got the chance to use it recently. I was confronted by a man as I was getting in my car and he tried to strike me with a piece of steel but I blocked it with my shins. He went for another strike and hit me straight in the balls then stole my keys and drove away. From now on I will be hardening my testicles as well.
I'm not sure I would want to go all the way at first and roll out my shins with a stone until I gasped with the pain, but I did just check my own shins for lumps and massaged them, and it is amazing how good that feels. I can understand how so many people complain of shinsplints and other injuries when they exercise a lot, because these muscles tend to get ignored until the body is almost yelling at you to let it rest.
I used to kickbox when I was younger, I kicked with authority & bad intentions & busted my shins up pretty damned good. These days I suffer from osteoporosis & gout. The worst pain I've ever felt were kidney stones, it's said to be the equivalent to that of a woman giving birth. Pain is my friend, it makes me feel alive.
Listen little brother....I love the videos you post with Master Jiang Yu Shan. It is a honour and gift you have given us to share your time with Master J. He is unbelievable. I wish I was there.
This the be a man exercise of the century. Talking about testing your pain threshold without serious injury. I tried doing something like this when I seen that Jean Claude Van Damme movie. I kicked a tree 30mins a day for 2 days. The third day I tried to walk and fell on my face. My mom thought I was crazy after I told her why I couldn’t walk and forbid me from doing it again.
Really good video, I quite enjoy the master. For me I've been trying to just harden all the bones of parts I strike with to make it so there is no pain. I saw some comments judging the Master for his large "deformed" hands. Im sitting here going that's fucking awesome, for me it's only the bottom of my fist that's like that because I used to hammerfist things when I was pissed. But to see his whole hand and wrist built up so much is quite impressive, that is literally making your body into a weapon, who the fuck cares what people think of your hands the dude could clap your skull and pop your eardrums if he wanted to. I will never understand people that don't appreciate the adaptability of the human body. Essentially hardship is a tool to make our bodies stronger, the more trauma you put it through the tougher and more powerful it gets. There is a reason I have such thick calluses on my feet I have before stepped on nails and not realized it until I felt something scraping the ground.
Hands are supposed to have veins. His look like he has put them into a hive. Anyone can hit with the palm and dont get hurt. You dont need to deform the back of it.
If you kill all the nerves in your shins, jaw, ribs, abs and legs, you won't feel pain the way your opponent does. Combine this with fantastic cardio. You'll be calm and you won't be tired or hurt and your opponent will be panicking
arthritis affects the joints, as far as I can see they are not touching them. The training would create microfractures wich can be harmfull if they don´t heal well. I wonder how frequently the training is done and how effective is the medicine and massage. I would guess a lot of bone broth would help to.
Has nothing to do with joints and movement pattern. There are definitely better ways to build bone density and they take time. This is more pain tolerance than anything else.
You don't harden the joints. The master has been doing this for decades and has no problems. The purpose of the massage + medicine is to prevent the problems. Punching and kicking the heavy bag is great but won't give you the same level of hardness and durability. It may seem very archaic but it's a lot more developed than people think. They study the anatomy of the bones and tendons very well, know possible complications, the proper massage techniques to apply etc.
He did not do this that is why his skiny leg snap. This only makes your bones stronger, ofc it is not good to do just before a match but still if you do this your legs will be stronger (bones) then your opponents so you kick him his leg will brake before yours and i dont think that is bad.
You don't need to be the most skilled, fastest, or strongest, if you can't be hurt. My coach told me before each competition: "None of these guys can hurt you half as badly as *I* hurt you every day,"
I remember when I was 14 I wanted to condition my shins somehow but I didn't have a training partner really or anything so I ended up getting my sister to hit me repeatedly in the shins with a tree branch I found in the yard every other week or so. My shins would be a yellowish bruised color for awhile afterwards and I remember other kids starring at them when I was in PE shorts.
@@morbius768 Eh, don't really notice a difference these days. Back then I noticed when I clashed shins accidentally in sparring it didn't really faze me, unlike my sparring partner, but honestly that was probably just me being accustomed to the pain rather than my shins being stronger or harder.
Covering the legs with a canvas cloth several layers tied on and kicking trees with good form does the same thing and is less abusive when starting out. Also soaking in saltwater baths with bruise liniment will do the same thing if you can't do hard training. The conditioning is to make you impervious to the work you are doing not really to make you super man.
rebuilding bones stiffness and hardening giving agility high level , that what buts you in other levels ... i'm a karate player but i know that , well done hisham i'm proud of you from egypt
I use a short 30lb barbell at the gym, and hand pressure. The center with no grip texture. I will get those small sticks like in the video. Probably will some oil just to avoid the burn on the skin.
If you want to get better at kicking, kick, if you want to harden your shins, kick, if you want to increase bone density, kick! Not this archaic stuff! It does more harm than good.
You absorb whatever you kick. You kick the bag, you absorb what the bag is made of. It's good and necessary but it won't make the shin as hard and durable
I listen to Kenny G music until I painfully can't stand it anymore, then I clean my ears with a q-tip, and repeat. It's horribly painful, but I'm starting to build a strong tolerance. Sometimes I switch it up with modern mumble rap, and use the same technique. It's been an incredible help with daily life.
I would not advice these trainings. And if anyone attempts them I'd advice to build it up very slowly. I've learned about these trainings and if you do them to hard and to much you can even get bone deformities in a bad way.
It's less damaging than it looks. It's just very painful in the beginning because the skin/tendons/nerves aren't used to it. You do it for a couple of times and it should become a lot easier.
Thank you for the upload. Interesting videos that you have posted lately. Good to see you working on your conditioning. You trained in a manner that is more akin to external iron body training whereby you can attain very tough bones and stronger ligaments and tendons within three months: however; this can have a detrimental effect on your future health and wellbeing. A method that I am also familiar with is the internal iron gong method: you go through the same conditioning; only it is prolonged over a greater period of time, also the repetitions vary, so that after two years you are using metal ball bearings and iron bars and iron brooms (like the wooden bunch of tied sticks called a broom in translation from mandarin to English). The different "energy" used that is referred to e.g. at 18:05 is down to CNS and muscle memory: a different density of material that you are striking results in different recruitment of muscle fibres and application of power through the: bone-muscle-tendon unit; also the density differences of varying materials present different resistances to overcome, different absorption and redirection of kinetic energy, so your body knows that hitting concrete FEELS different to hitting sand as does hitting water FEEL different to hitting metal, ergo hitting someone exactly the way you would when striking water, recruit CNS and PNS pathways differently which results in different activation and recruitment of muscle fibres hence the perceived difference but hey a knockout is still a K.O. right ;). Peace :)
most interesting ! like all your videos. May I just suggest that you get info about Systema's "burst breathing". It helps tremendously to "dissipate" pain. I noticed that sometimes you held your breath when pain became untolerable, and it is couterproductive because it maintains you on "sympathetic" mode when you most need to turn on "parasympathetic" mode to increase calmness and relaxation. Please don't feel offended, you know so much more than me about human potential, but this technique could help !
Thank you for the recommendation Paul. We actually just learned the Systema's burst breathing this weekend from Steve Maxwell! Very good stuff and would have been helpful
Absolutely amazing dedication. Nothing to do with magic or qi, just normal physiology and very, very hard training. The way we increase bone density is by repeated impact stress. This causes tiny fractures in the bone that are then reinforced as the osteoblasts move in to repair the damage. Same thing happening with the skin and bones in your hand (actually building up scar tissue and getting the cells used to constant inflammation). The only concern is nerve damage, but I guess the massage helps with that and you seem to do it consistently but not too extremely. I am very interested to know what happens with old age (as bone is resorped). Absolutely amazing, guy looks like a machine. Thanks for the techniques! Might not go all the way with the hands... need those for work. Edit: Interestingly I think Kung-Fu is bullshit. I have done a little MMA and went to NanShaolin in Fujian province in China. All bullshit. Did a little Sanda which was very legitimate (though some moves seemed more for point-scoring like the strange overhand hooks) but GongFu was all complete shit. This guys body and training techniques seem 100% legit and while I'm pretty amateur in martial arts, I am pretty well trained in anatomy and physiology. My brother studied QiGong for 10+ years. I studied TCM in Fujian for a whole too, also have some pharmacology and medical history knowledge though and TCM is 100% the same as humorism. It's crazy bullshit. Still. These techniques seem very solid, great for their intended purposes. Still a bit worried about nerve damage in the hands though. Fine motor control is pretty important to most people. By damaging the individual cells, this probably wouldn't be good over the long run.
This training is extreme without learning knitting you have to have a really good idea of how things go together onside because your constantly realigning things inside to correct posture and structure. Tai chi would be a complementary art. I've always wanted to go to fuzhao I'm really into the pantomime boxing they are famous for.
I'm Biased because I have been training in kung fu for over 16 years, but i find the bond hardening exercises very useful. I mainly do forearms and more recently i have been doing my hands under the guidance of my teacher. Some are correct in saying that it wont directly help you to fight, but i use the analogy of a car. If you want a car to perform better you up grade the tires, breaks, engine etc. This is was bone hardening does, if top MMA fighters were to implement some of this training into their regime, it would only make them better. Imagine this, i actually have training partners that don't want to try with me because my arms are so hard and the people that do train with me can only punch maybe half a dozen times until they don't want to anymore. Imagine being in a fight and the other person not wanting to hit you because when you block them it hurts, sounds like an ideal situation to me. This what bone hardening does, it takes the tools you have and makes them better. There are no repercussions of this type of training as long as you do it correctly and use Chinese medicine like Dit Dow Jow, which is special herbal medicine which prevents long term damage and helps with bruising. Kung fu does bone hardening in a unique way in that it doesn't damage the body in the long term. You hear about people punching walls to make their hands harder, then they end up with horrible arthritis, is it any surprise? you are damaging the bones, joints, tendons etc. In kung fu we do it in a special way in not to cause such damage, we build it up over time so the body can get used to it. In the video we see the master hitting marble, its probably taken him 10 years to get to that point, he probably started off with a bag of rice or sandand built it up. Also the Qi gong aspect of the training is probably the most important part, but alot of people skip this part either because they dont have the patience or dont see the benefits. But again this is important to prevent long term damage as it gets the energy and blood circulating to the limbs you are training.
Wow, amazing, in the video where the master breakes the stone I notice his big hands, but they are bigger than I thought. It is awesome how he can be big, muscular and also moves softly and be flexible.
Around 12 minutes in.. You mentioned turmeric, and then said that there is a different medicine to help heal the bone and stagnant blood... What medicine were you referring to? And is it something we can find in common stores in the US? 🙂
This is easy, My workout is take a nice looking and sweet girl to dinner enjoy the evening. Guess who has more fun? If you want to prepare for a fight ,,,learn to shoot, carry and take a nice girl to dinner.... Live your life have some fun.
I have a question to the Chinese healing oil… is there maybe a recommendation of a commercial product which helps the tendons, bones and muscles very well? My second question is: there was a video where grandmaster showed some „stretching“. they were just Holdings but stretch the body. Can you please be so kind to link me them? Thank you so much for your content here 🙌🙌🙌
It's less damaging than it looks, just very painful in the beginning when you are not used to it! In Chinese kung fu you don't harden the joints so arthritis is not a problem.
@@trynalearn It's not 'exactly'. It depends on the amount, as with everything else. Milk doesn't make your bones weaker, you dimwit, but too much of it CAN increase mortality. CAN, based on the study, not scientific FACTS. If you search it up I suggest you READ it as well. It's a compiled study where they find, by examining the effects of drinking more than 3 glasses a day, that more than 3 glasses might increase mortality. There are however many factors regarding the study that might shift it in milks favor anyway. Conducted in Sweden, in an area with less sunlight, that might have meant vitamin D deficiency, which is good combined with milk. Calcium is good anyway, because we know that Calcium strengthens the bone. The substance that warrants moderation in your consumption of milk, but is not scientifically proven as a fact, is D-galactose: 'has been shown to induce oxidative stress damage and chronic inflammation in animals, and such changes have been associated with cardiovascular disease, cancer, bone loss, and muscle loss in humans'. However, Clinic PhDs etc. states: 'She says while the study raises interesting questions, there is not strong enough evidence to warrant a restriction on milk.' - 'She says there are some unanswered questions about the study participants - and whether or not they were lacking in vitamin D.' - '“Additionally, as the authors point out, they cannot determine if people were taking higher amounts of milk because they were at risk or had osteoporosis and therefore higher risk for fractures anyway,” she says. Her advice? Try to consume 1200 mg of calcium and 600-800 IU of vitamin D daily, especially in winter months.' So no, not 'exactly' nor 'not the best idea'. One glass a day, as a calcium source to fortify your bones, can surely be good. Plus calcium supplements. If you're uncertain, just consume something else with a high calcium content.
the bones do not get "stronger" only the skin and flesh get harder. Bones only get harder when pressure comes in bone direction.if pressure comes from other angle bones material stays like it is or when made over longer time material removes ( morbus sudek )
Not true. Skin doesnt get harder. The protein and collagen content wont change simply because you strain it or apply pressure. The bones however DO get harder and can happen in 2 ways: 1) Its possible to build more bone density through training and diet. 2) When punishing the bones scar tissue builds on the bone in a similar way that happens when you break something, this makes the bones more tough.
it's the bones. In Muay Thai you kick hard things with your shin bone to crack the outer layer and when the bones then repair themselves they become stronger.
The video was really helpful, may I know this exercise should be before workouts or after, and please what is the herbs that can help with recovery. Thank you so much.
Wow funny how nobody that does kung fu has ever had a legitimate career in fighting??? I've been in Thailand for a while now training at differant gyms and never seen this garbage....and people out here regularly have anywhere from 200 to 300 fights so I think they know how to train properly for actual combat....smash the heavy bag, spar often and lightly at first gradually increasing level and your shins will be hard as rocks in time with no gnarly side effects...thai fighters regularly do displays of how conditioned their shins are but they are for sure not kicking bananas trees and baseball bats everyday especially as beginners......on top of all that you actually have to pay decent money (for Thailand) to kick a banana tree down as they are becoming endangered....so many ill informed people its honeslty laughable...
Because people with a brain dont care for fighting competitions. Kung fu cultivates both mind and body. Besides that, Yi Long for instance who is Shaolin trained even won a muaythai world championship. These body trainings youre taking the piss out of are similar to those used in Karate, which is a bit more popular in the West, for instance Lyoto Machida uses it (UFC champion). So dont even go hating on other martial arts like Kung fu when you clearly know shit ,have some respect
So there is truly no reason to harden your bones if your not using them to compete you dolt....and if your talking about yi long and the corrupt Chinese government robbing fighters of their victory like buakaw your argument has been entirely invalid...for someone with a brain you seem pretty soft I the head.
Buakaw beat him the first time and got robbed the second and any time that fool fights a high level thai outside of China he gets smoked, look at his last fight with saiyok....and also competition is a huge part of any legitimate martial art....you sound like a fool.
And lyoto macheda DOES NOT practice kung fu,he does shotokan karate wich makes kung fu look like pillow fights... dont you dare insult me when you have no idea what your talking about.....
If there is no purpose for hardening the bones,it is litterally the dumbest thing to do to your body, this type of training has long term effects on the body and according to you they dont care for competition so its makes this even more stupid...your literally damaging your body for no point.....at least in karate they compete and their style has a purpose.....

This is pretty metal
Listen little brother....I love the videos you post with Master Jiang Yu Shan. It is a honour and gift you have given us to share your time with Master J. He is unbelievable. I wish I was there.
My worst pain was getting shot. As soon it hits you it burns. It burned so badly that I passed out and woke up in the hospital.
@@Menjuitpusiarworsdanlesbians Don't be so vain
If you kill all the nerves in your shins, jaw, ribs, abs and legs, you won't feel pain the way your opponent does. Combine this with fantastic cardio. You'll be calm and you won't be tired or hurt and your opponent will be panicking
0:23 that "Yes" sounded like he just lost everything and gave in to the teachings of the dark side
Haha indeed
Say hello to arthritis later in life)) It's not a healthy way to do it.
Its just takes years of constant punching heavybag, from soft to hard.
arthritis affects the joints, as far as I can see they are not touching them. The training would create microfractures wich can be harmfull if they don´t heal well. I wonder how frequently the training is done and how effective is the medicine and massage. I would guess a lot of bone broth would help to.
The bottle of dit da jow they use is to prevent arthrits
Has nothing to do with joints and movement pattern. There are definitely better ways to build bone density and they take time. This is more pain tolerance than anything else.
You don't harden the joints. The master has been doing this for decades and has no problems. The purpose of the massage + medicine is to prevent the problems. Punching and kicking the heavy bag is great but won't give you the same level of hardness and durability.
It may seem very archaic but it's a lot more developed than people think. They study the anatomy of the bones and tendons very well, know possible complications, the proper massage techniques to apply etc.
lmao dude this is not fist training its shin training moron
"This is 'Jiang Yu Shan'..."
No it's not! That's Pete from the PTA meetings. He told me has bunions and high blood pressure.

im gonna do this to my 10 yr old nd teach him respect!!!!
Anderson Silva did this too hard before weidman.
lol i tought i had hair/crack on my screen but then i realize its ur profile pic D:
He did not do this that is why his skiny leg snap. This only makes your bones stronger, ofc it is not good to do just before a match but still if you do this your legs will be stronger (bones) then your opponents so you kick him his leg will brake before yours and i dont think that is bad.
Flow State if Anderson did this weidmans leg would have bruised so badly, thai fighters turn their shins into concrete bro.
Billyjeaner Mcgee if you do it too much before a fight, your leg is much more vulnerable
Flow State ok, Anderson didn’t do this stuff though
Literally just watched the first two videos and was thinking man, when will the 3rd part come out. And here it is. SWEET!
You don't need to be the most skilled, fastest, or strongest, if you can't be hurt. My coach told me before each competition: "None of these guys can hurt you half as badly as *I* hurt you every day,"

I love the way you conclude. Stay strong everyone! Thank you for the wonderful video.
Thank you for watching!
I think Tony Ferguson is some way related to this workout . Dude kicks steel pipes for shin conditioning.
I think Tony Ferguson is doing a lot of stuff right. He hasn't sparred for over 2 years either which is interesting considering his fighting style
VAHVA Fitness Yeah , It l be intersting. . If possible , kindly do a Tony Ferguson inspired training routine video in future . . .

Thanks brother, for finding this master,. Hope to see you soon after pandemic and thanks for the courses
I remember when I was 14 I wanted to condition my shins somehow but I didn't have a training partner really or anything so I ended up getting my sister to hit me repeatedly in the shins with a tree branch I found in the yard every other week or so. My shins would be a yellowish bruised color for awhile afterwards and I remember other kids starring at them when I was in PE shorts.
so how are your shins now lol
@@morbius768 Eh, don't really notice a difference these days. Back then I noticed when I clashed shins accidentally in sparring it didn't really faze me, unlike my sparring partner, but honestly that was probably just me being accustomed to the pain rather than my shins being stronger or harder.
Hhahahahha

@@caralho5237 bro you ever tried to do a volley and end up hitting the lower shin.?😂 lmao my shits probably rock hard from all the attempts
It would be interesting to see before and after x-rays showing bone density. Thanks for the video!
Probably after a year of practice. Real hardening comes once the shin gets more durable and you can kick harder
Name of the shin roller and other conditioning items for purchase?
They are probably using their own version of dit da jow
De Wulf Yea, I have the Jow already, just looking for the cement roller.
I use krushin have been for years.
I use a short 30lb barbell at the gym, and hand pressure. The center with no grip texture. I will get those small sticks like in the video. Probably will some oil just to avoid the burn on the skin.

Awesome video! Going to watch Bloodsport and Kickboxer back to back.
Awesome movies, I also really enjoyed Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee movies!
If you want to get better at kicking, kick, if you want to harden your shins, kick, if you want to increase bone density, kick! Not this archaic stuff! It does more harm than good.
Just kick a heavy bag
Very true. Ossification is key.
You absorb whatever you kick. You kick the bag, you absorb what the bag is made of. It's good and necessary but it won't make the shin as hard and durable
@@Vahvafitness Yes, don't kick a too soft of a bag of course, but if you know how bone formation works you don't need to overdo it.
*Alexander K.* , wasnt all this to harden the skin over the bone .. but yeah a hard bag hurts enough lol
Bone pain is one of the most painful ones on the scale. Wow guys I'm impressed.
That guy has Wreck it Ralph hands
I listen to Kenny G music until I painfully can't stand it anymore, then I clean my ears with a q-tip, and repeat. It's horribly painful, but I'm starting to build a strong tolerance. Sometimes I switch it up with modern mumble rap, and use the same technique. It's been an incredible help with daily life.
Dude, this has to be one of the strangest yet interesting things I've ever seen on YT. How's 2 years of progress?
I would not advice these trainings. And if anyone attempts them I'd advice to build it up very slowly. I've learned about these trainings and if you do them to hard and to much you can even get bone deformities in a bad way.
It's less damaging than it looks. It's just very painful in the beginning because the skin/tendons/nerves aren't used to it. You do it for a couple of times and it should become a lot easier.
@@Vahvafitness the masters hands look permanently swollen, is that ok? Is there a recovery process? Like medicine or lotion?
This is very educational and inspirational. Thank you
Thank you for the upload. The different "energy" used that is referred to e.g. at 18:05 is down to CNS and muscle memory: a different density of material that you are striking results in different recruitment of muscle fibres and application of power through the: bone-muscle-tendon unit; also the density differences of varying materials present different resistances to overcome, different absorption and redirection of kinetic energy, so your body knows that hitting concrete FEELS different to hitting sand as does hitting water FEEL different to hitting metal, ergo hitting someone exactly the way you would when striking water, recruit CNS and PNS pathways differently which results in different activation and recruitment of muscle fibres hence the perceived difference but hey a knockout is still a K.O. right ;).
Peace :)
Thanks for sharing!
The Qi Gong and TCM seems solid, but the marketing has got the superior Chi. Damn that's some good advertisement and video making. Congrats!
most interesting ! like all your videos.
@@Vahvafitness great !
Thank you to share all this with us. He is truly a great Master
Thanks for sharing A BC! Most kung fu in China (or anywhere) is BS (Samuli traveled there for a year), the good stuff is very hard to find these days.

Just drink milk lol
Calcium time
Boiled Ramen milk is actually proven to make the bones weaker search it up.
@@4ceza471 can you give me the link to where you found this site?
Leonardo Marquez Exactly. Funny how growing up we were told to drink milk for strong bones, come to find out.... not the best idea.
Her advice? Try to consume 1200 mg of calcium and 600-800 IU of vitamin D daily, especially in winter months.'
So no, not 'exactly' nor 'not the best idea'.

Yes, it's most likely the skin thickening and getting harder. Maybe even killing nerves in that particular area.
Seems that his hands are more in a constant state of being swollen, not thick skin.

How do I get hold of you if I want to come for training
