Making the Optical Illusion Leather Wallet (WITH PATTERN!)
We finally got a pattern up! We designed this DIY leather wallet pattern to be made by hand, and have a really funky credit card pocket shape that creates an optical illusion when cards are inserted. We made our sample leather wallet from the pattern with a brown bridle leather, which we cut by hand then saddle stitched together. This wallet's optical illusion is achieved with careful planning in the pattern - we drew out the wallet design on paper, then brought it into Adobe Illustrator to plot it out in a more exact way. When the leather wallet pattern was done, we printed it out onto heavy card stock and got to making!
The best part about this optical illusion leather wallet is that it's got a similar storage capacity to a slim billfold leather wallet. The Optical Illusion wallet can hold 4-6 cards on one side, then holds cash on the other while only having to fold the cash one time. We're a big fan of this design and hope you enjoy making it as well! - Навчання та стиль
Bought the pattern, super easy instructions with the video, made it in about an hour. Wifie happy, world happy, Thanks for another great tutorial and Pattern. Made mine out of W&C Bridle - chocolate brown
So glad to hear! I bet it looks great in W&C, we make lots and lots of product in their Russet and Black :)
What was the leather thickness

@@Corter omg 😂 that's even better than what I said
I don’t see the illusion but nice craftmanship
Not so much an illusion as cool but slightly confusing pattern in that once you place cards in the wallet, the wallet will expose them with a seemingly overlapping/continuous diagonal line.
You literally inspired me to take this up as a hobby. I've just bought your design so this'll be the first thing I make!
I love how you make it looks so easy and beautiful. Love this very much. God bless you people at Corter greatly.
Looks flippin amazing, love it
Thank you for my regular leather crafting therapy!
FREAKING LOVE THIS!!!
Beautiful wallet and the lighter leather case is dope too..thanks for sharing..
Looks very clean
Good design!! it's like double layer for each card!!
beautiful work !! as always. Much Thanks.
Very good. You did a good job.
Thank you! For the inspiration AND the pattern! 😝
The contrast between the relaxing video and the energy of the text at 1:00 is hilarious
I love watching your videos.
Amazing as Always!!!! Your vídeos just make me wanna work harder!!!! Make stuff!!!
Thanks for sharing another great one. Keep em coming!!!
Lovely lovely work!
Simply beautiful work thanks
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Awesome work. Can’t wait till i find some time to start making this myself
I'm a huge fan of wallets that are slim enough for the front pocket and allow me to only have to fold cash once.
is it just me or leather wallet making is so satisfying
Very good work💕
_just wow!!_ 😮👍🏻
I definitely want to try this. 😊👍
Like the one stroke cutting. Obviously a sharper blade than I use. Have watched a few of your videos and appreciate your skill. Interested in getting the pattern to give this project a go.
Crazy unintentional asmr... I'm so relaxed
Love it!
Very cool design! Another great video too!
Very very good!
Wow! That looks super stinkin cool!!! You guys are just amazing!
Just purchased the pattern! Very excited to make this. So glad you’re providing patterns now.
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for 🙏

Very nice!
Amazing 12 minutes👍👌
I love the $2 bill
I really waana watch vids that you’re making a bag..I mean that bag at 00:40. That bag looks so beautiful!
Great video nice wallet
Very nice 👍.
Awesome
I love all of your videos. That being said I am curious to know if you hand carve any designs on your finished product?
Good job
Simply beautiful inspired by your artistic style and design,....mikelle newyork strong mom 😷✌
좋은 영상 이네요 감사합니다 ㅎ
thanks so much!
thanks sir now i have a starting point
Nice work! But I guess it'dve been much more convenient if you had the back as an open pocket for money instead of gluing it as reinforcement (adding unnecessary volume and weight)
I am so gonna make that wallet!
make sure to send us pics when you're finished, can't wait to see it!
Respect . I SEE and started to maed coping
Nice
Nothing like having your cards and cash in full view!
Oh no. Someone might see your cards. Oh no!

Do you ever work with Chrome tanned leather? How different is it?
Wow, I've never been this early before! Lovely work. Thank you for not adding a voice-over or music
thanks so much :)
I agree, lovely to just hear the leather being worked and tools being used.
Amazing! Me likes. Ray,Oklahoma
what do you do with all the left over leather pieces?
How do you stitch like that? So fast and clean ... koodos on the sanding block vs a nail file .. and do you burnish with canvas? ( read about it but yet to try ) is it like a painters canvas or floor canvas,,, or is it a totally different material
Thanks for getting my Sunday off to a great start!
Sorry but what is the tool you use to make the guided likes edge? I didnt see it online
I would love to know the adhesive you use.
Very nice, but I think using a wood burnisher on the edges gives it a more polished (finished) look than just rubbing it with a rag.
Wow.
Can you do a video on your saddle stitching method please?
The saddle-stitch would be more visible if you remembered about pulling one end of the thread upwards and the other downwards, the thread would set in the holes differently. Love the pattern, thanks for another great vid!
Glad you like it! Are you referring to a more tilted stacking effect?
@@Corter Yes, not a straight line stitch but a zigzagging effect
We'd need to use stitching chisels with more of a flat french-style tooth profile for that aggressive stacked look -- we prefer more of a straight stitch with a slight stack so we use diamond shaped chisels for most of our work :)
What program do you use to create a pattern?
What do you put on the side??
On the fence on rather should get a Tanner Goods card holder or one of yours but Tanner Goods don’t make awesome videos! Corter Leather it is!
So when does the optical illusion part come? Is that in the next video?
Do you guys made a wallet with a coin storage?
Don't have that's one already in your website?
The lack of talking makes this an awesome video to watch
Cool you're using the master tool line of weavers edge bevelers right?? How do you like it compared to other brands you've tried? I wanna buy one
Yep! I love em, super easy to keep sharp and a good shape for tight corners. Been using Weaver's bevelers far before we started working with them on videos, it's one of the reasons I reached out and asked them to work with us! A great deal for a great piece of kit that lasts forever, they actually sent us a newer model because we were using one that was like 10 years old in our first few videos haha
What program do u do your designs on
Hey can you combine knife case and wallet !
I bought the pattern 2 days ago, and have made the wallet. I have not punched the holes or stitched it yet. I noticed you made all the front pockets and punched holes through all the layers, then added the back pocket, which mysteriously was already punched. This makes no sense to me. Did you make a mistake, punching the holes through all the layers except the back pocket, then lined it up and punched it? Because I glued all the layers and it's pretty thick, hoping my punch will make it through all that leather.
Cool. In the event, you made much of your pattern as you went, didn’t you?
How did you get into leather work
Your work and design are awesome I really love it. What program do you use to design them?
thanks! I use Adobe Illustrator
@@Corter thanks man, great job
very nice but i like you make something with soft leather
Can you produce plans for the chisel pouch? Would make a nice entry level project for a lot of people.
Will do! We'll have a new project coming out in the next couple months for chisels and a couple other tools and we'll have a pattern available :)
It is Facinante this work, what software do you use to make these drawings in MAC? Hugs from Brazil
it's Adobe Illustrator! Hello from Cape Cod!
умелые руки!
Where's the illusion? 12 minutes of video and no explanation of what the illusion supposedly is....
The illusion is that the card slots don't look like slots.
@@jimmyeng663 but they do look like slots
@@lordpablo1985 The edge of the cards sit flush to the slots where in a regular wallet you'd usually see a stacked appearance of each one overlapping, this is supposed to make it look like the cards a part of the wallet.
That *IS* the illusion...
I don't see it either. I guess the intelligent people aren't fooled by it.
hi, may i know in the video 10:55 that part wat u r apply for the edge?
Probably a gum tragacanth..
@@rorysmith4046 thank you Rory : )
Bagus
❤️
What size of tortsbil?
Are you dressing the edge with gum trag? And what did you do to your hand? You OK?
yep! we use gum trag. I wish my hand was a cool story but alas, I was reaching in to grab a slice of pizza at the store and the metal of the display case shocked me, so I pulled my hand away in surprise and ripped the top open on the pizza case haha. it'll be right as rain next week!
Glad it's nothing too serious.
Great design. How about leaving the top of the top unstitched to create another pocket?
you could absolutely do that, the top or a side or a top and side! I would just line the side with the multiple card slots, as putting things in and out of that central pocket will wear on the stitching which might fray over time. A liner would protect it no prob
Gotcha, good idea. Thanks for the video and the pattern. Very generous!
@@WeeGeordie Thanks! we hope to do a lot more, it's been super fun doing this one

👍
whats the optical illusion ?
i need one.How to get you wallet.
😍
Really great! Will there be an A4 paper size version for all your european followers?
This pattern will print on a4 no prob, you've just got to make sure to set the printer to "full size" or "do not crop" etc :)
круто классно с кожей работать я даже не знал что это так классно

Скажите пожалуйста ,чем вы обрабатываете торцы?
clipping and melting them so they stay tight :)
@@Corter ,если не секрет, скажите какой крем,tragakant или cmc?
@@user-gn7pe1re3l for burnishing? not a secret at all! Gum Tragacanth, but water works just as well
