    This was a cute idea! What a smart idea to have a set of bearings for all your wheels. It gave me ideas on what to put in my bag once I start skating.

    Great concise video with good ideas for items to keep in the skate bag. I am getting back to (as in I have not really skated since I was a child 🙂) skating due to the pandemic and I have been watching a lot of videos on the subject. I’m waiting on my Moxi Lolly’s so I have been relying on rental skates now that the rinks have opened up. Thanks for the info!

    2days) since I’m suffering from mosquitoes bites from last skate session bug repellent will be a new addition. I need the Y3 tool but it’s currently sold out. I have the T tool for now..

    I am making up a skate bag for the summer so this video was helpful for ideas. Currently, I just use a fanny pack with my Y tool (same one as you) and some bandages. I wear all the protective gear, but I'm still super new at skating so I like to be on the safe side. Trying to think of what else I can fit in the fanny pack. I'll probably add some antibacterial spray to go with the bandages, but I want to be able to fit my phone in and maybe a small snack. I am still a wobbly baby deer on skates so I don't leave the driveway so I probably don't even need a skate bag, but I like to think ahead 😂

    Things I never leave without:
    Laces - they ALWAYS tend to snap at the worst possible moment! UGH! LOL
    A medical bottle (A.K.A. "peri-bottle" or any bottle with a snap lid - like on some children's drinks or water bottles, pull up, drink, push down, it's closed - but also has a cap) that contains some Fast Orange.
    A small stack of napkins/paper towels.
    But the above is just in my skate bag - mine is also a backpack I repurposed :) - that I use when hitting the local park and its trails.
    I've got a whole wheeled box I usually take to the rink - which also includes Grip Juice as an essential item.
    For street skating, a simple - though thicker - fanny pack with ID, cash, fully charged phone, a replacement toe stop, a couple spare bearings, and the Y3 tool.
    You REALLY don't want to know what else is in the first two though. LOL 7 skaters in the family...just the rink box or park backpack, I could probably outfit a smaller derby league with all the spare bits and pieces I keep in those. Fanny pack, not so much, as it's usually only 2 of us who skate outdoors, though I did just get one of my girls another pair of skates specifically for outdoor use...it's usually just my youngest and I.

    • @urrka728
      @urrka728  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching! I had to look up what Grip Juice was. I'm definitely adding it to my bag for when the rinks start open up again

    • @MystiqueRisingSun
      @MystiqueRisingSun 4 роки тому +1

      @@urrka728 Absolutely LOVE that stuff. Especially in the summer. My rink has no A/C, so humid days = slick floor!
      The Fast Orange/paper towels is for the wheels. I buy it by the gallon, then transfer it to the smaller medical bottles. A few drops, spread with your finger, wait 30-45 seconds, wipe with paper towel/napkin. Cleans wheels like a dream. The best part is, well, I'd tried alcohol wipes, baby wipes, and so many other things, but they ALL seem to leave a slippery residue on the wheels. The Fast Orange (or Orange Goop - smooth formula only, not the ones with pumice) doesn't. If anything, it gives you a LITTLE bit of added grip for a few minutes. Was kind of funny the first time I used it at the rink though. The manager thought it was a smoothie! LOL Anyway, the Fast Orange/Orange Goop is basically an industrial hand cleaner - meant for use in factories/the automotive field, so it really cuts through just about anything you can pick up on your wheels - indoor or out. Though it may have to sit a little longer than 45 seconds if it's been a while - or never - since you last cleaned your wheels. I've always got the rink rats hounding me to use it. I think I just need to get more bottles and start selling the stuff. 1 Bottle = $X, Refill a little cheaper....? LOL

    • @urrka728

      The style is called "Right Pack." It's a pretty standard sized backpack. Jansport lists the dimensions on their site as: 18" x 13" x 8.5" / 46 x 33 x 21 cm.

    Are those the wheels that come with the skate? If so, how are they on a rink floor?

    • @urrka728
      @urrka728  4 роки тому +4

      These wheels did not come on the skates. I purchased them separately through Amazon. They are the RollerBones Team Logo wheels (98A, 57mm). I don't have much to compare them to other than the rink wheels that come on rental skates. But I love these wheels. They're smooth and slide well but still allow you to have control. I've skated them for about a year and haven't experienced any issues. No flat spots either. I would definitely buy another set of these.

    Hey! I just recently started skating (6 days ago to be exact) and I have a cheap beginner pair of roller skates from C7. They’re obviously not the worlds best, the wheels don’t spin very well, and the toe-stops are plastic and chip off a huge chunk if I use them to stop which doesn’t end up working, and the trucks and plates are nylon too. Even after all that they aren’t bad skates because I can skate in them just fine. I was just wondering when I should upgrade my roller skates. I want to get a pair of Impalas or Moxis as the next step, but I don’t wanna pour out all my money on a good pair of roller skates too soon because I wanna make sure I continue to enjoy skating, but I wanna make sure to upgrade so I can progress forward if I continue to enjoy it.
    But at the same time, I might want to get them sooner so I don’t get frustrated and quit because of the added challenges of a cheaper skate. So to sum it up, the main question is should I upgrade my skates sooner (in less than a month for my birthday) or later? (Somewhere in mid 2021 or next Christmas)

    • @urrka728
      @urrka728  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Bella--Congrats on the new skates! For wheels that aren't spinning freely I'd try to loosen the axle nut with a skate tool. You may also want to look into changing the bearings eventually because sometimes the stock bearings can be a little slower. You can also change out your toe stops. Sure grip and riedell also make bolt-on toe stops that are rubber instead of plastic.
      As far as when to upgrade to new skates, that's really going to be up to you. If the skates you have aren't giving you any issues, I'd keep using them until you feel they're hindering your progress and have decided that you're ready to invest more in skating. You can always make minor upgrades (ex: wheels, bearings, toe stops, laces etc) to help the skate better fit your needs in the meantime. Once you decide that you want to stick with skating, I would then look into getting new skates.

    My skate bag stuff I can't live without is my protective gear. I'm sorry to admit but since my last skate as a preteen to now being in my mid 30s I have crippling fear of getting hurt. And my gopro, I don't post my videos, but it's good to watch myself skate.

      it depends on what you wanna do on skates. if you’re just skating on flat surfaces you can use long stems, but if you get into park skating then i would go for short stem. the only difference you’re going to see between the two is that long stems will be lower to the ground so the back of your foot won’t come up as high when you stop which you might like since there’s a heel. if you want to get into park skating short stem would be the better choice so you don’t trip going up and down ramps. when you buy the beach bunnies they will have long stems so you can decide if you love it or hate it once you start skating. i hope you enjoy skating!🥰

    • @urrka728
      @urrka728  4 роки тому

      I generally skate on wood rink floors. I've used these wheels once on a painted concrete floor and I thought they were pretty slick on that floor

    • @MystiqueRisingSun
      @MystiqueRisingSun 4 роки тому +1

      Honestly, that depends on YOUR rink. I'm fortunate enough to have 3 near me:
      The newest is sport court. Holy stuck-ness Batman! You NEED a 101A or 103A to skate that place.
      My "home" rink (only a 7 minute drive) is coated rotunda, but NOT well-maintained - I can't skate on anything above an 85A or I'm sliding like I'm on ice!
      My "old" rink (the one I grew up going to) is also coated rotunda, BUT it's maintained MUCH better - I usually skate a 95A or 96A there.
      That being said, there are a lot of factors that go into choosing the perfect wheel...besides just the surface and how it's maintained.
      Your weight can play a factor, weather - ESPECIALLY if you're in the north - rinks skate much different in summer versus winter, and the style of skating you want to do. If you're new to skating, it really doesn't matter when you're just finding your balance, but some wheels are better for certain forms of skating than others.

      MystiqueRisingSun very useful info, thanks. I took some skate classes in a sports hall last year. I really struggled. You may have answered why (85a outdoor wheels). Plus I’ve just loosened my trucks a load and it’s made a world of difference. The things you learn along the way. Waiting for my Rollerbones wheels to arrive so I can compare.
