Some useful gumpf; click on SHOW MORE (just below).
‘A Curious Feeling’ is my favourite Tony Banks album (although I’m really starting to get into his orchestral albums, particularly ‘5’) and this is my favourite track on that album.
Plus, as my last Genesis track was ‘Undertow’… :)
It's scored, surprise surprise, using Sibelius 7.5
The piano part was created in Presonus Studio One using Modartt’s Pianoteq 6 CP-80 Electric Grand piano and processed thru TAL’s TAL-Chorus-LX chorus and FabFilter’s Pro Q2 EQ to tame the piano’s upper ’tizz’, remove the slight lower-mid ‘honkiness’ and boost the bass a bit.
    Performance notes in the PDF.
    Have fun! :)

Fantastic transcription ! I have dreamed for that for several decades. Thank you. For me too, "A curious feeling" is my favorite Tony Banks album. Nevertheless in "Still" album there is a song that I like very much : "Still it take me by surprise" with a wonderfull piano solo part. If you like it too, maybe you will transcribe it one day?

You mean the fast right-hand, left-hand, right-hand, left-hand etc. bit?
Yeah, I'd forgotten about that track. It's far and away my favourite track on that album - not a big fan of most of the rest of it I'm afraid :(
The whole piece sounds like it'd be fun to play on the piano (never actually tried to though), so I'll add it to my ever-growing list lol! :)

@@ElektrikHob Exactly. I transcribed it myself on cubase long time ago (with an Atari computer !) but I lost it.
By the way, have you included "Me and Sarah Jane" in your list ? Don't you like the dissonant chords of this song ?
      Bonne soirée.

@@ECLECTRIX "Me and Sarah Jane" is on the list though a fair way down...
It's one of my favourite songs from their 80's catalogue, probably cos it hearkens back to the days of "...Vine" & "...Rope".
And of course it still has Tony's "you can never have too many chords" approach to writing! :)
If he ever does an autobiography it will HAVE to be called "A Chord Too Far"! lol :)
Edit: Just found out he actually brought out a compilation set of CDs with that very name!!
Guess I probably saw it sometime in the past and it must've lodged itself into my subconsciousness or something... lol :)

I didn t know this song. Is beautifull! I was searching for the word Undertow ( lm latin, not English) It apparently means "hangover" but l m not sure if Undertow of " Then there were three", means that or it refears to the stream of a river as is mention in " Riding the scree" ( when Rael dives into river to save John) or its meaning is something else

    • @ElektrikHob
      @ElektrikHob  4 роки тому +4

as in 'la resaca'...? An unfortunate translation as undertow in English has nothing to do with a hangover!! :)
It's a term (for example; 'In the Rapids' on 'The Lamb') used to describe a dangerous current of water that flows faster, and underneath, the main current.
It can also be used in an emotional sense, to mean something that is deeper and darker that lies beneath the surface, which could be why it was used as that song title on '... Three'. 'From the Undertow' has, in bars 22-25 & 28-32, the same sort of melodic and rhythmic lines as the choruses of 'Undertow', which I would imagine is where it gets it's name from.

Im percutionist and play a little keyboard. For that reason l used Sibelius 6 for helping me in Tony s solos guitar and bass. I ended the song ( cinema show) as in Seconds Out.

@@ElektrikHob Yes, its your score 👍 awesome and complete. I will do one perform more and then l think l will take a little rest for a couple o months because its too much work. I imagine for you it is a lot of time to dedicate for transcriptions. As l see Genesis have complicate harmonies and even the melody sometimes is difficult to capture ( also the metric) But thats because l m not total skillful for that. I do my best but many times l end kicking boxes or chairs when the inspiración doesnt arrive. I think l m old already. If only tecnology and Internet would have arrived when l was younger. Thanks for all!!
