Ripping the doors off the hinges at the ANU to be a part of the gig, is everything Nirvana stood for. That would have been an extremely memorable moment for the band. Having performed on stage, I can just imagine a surge of people flowing in from the side doors at the ANU. Ahh if only I was old enough at the time. I was a young guitarist listening to the band, even at 9. Older cousins :)
A lot of Australian venues didn't even sell tickets or bother opening any of their doors when international bands were booked to play 'cause we'd all just smash our way in to shows down here back then Different times
The best part about this is that it was an Australian TV clip where the words "Barney ties me to the chair. I can't see, I'm really scared. He breathes hard, I hear a zip. Pee pee pressed against my lips." were aired. On television. For millions to hear.
Stephen Kane Australian term? You mean that continent that only has 23 million people living in? No one gives a shit about Australia. The people there probably watch The Crocodile Hunter or some dumb shit like that anyway.
Thank you for sharing this curmodgeon nirvana.I was 11 when this was out.I wish Kurt could have lasted another 7 years,So i could have seen them when i was a teen. Also i know we would have seen at least one more nirvana album and a Cobain solo album in those seven years. But we are at least going to see a cobain solo album this November 2015.
+agurobe I saw them play the Hordern at the very first BDO..it was sweltering hot inside the venue..everybody who was anybody in the Sydney music scene was there..I remember Courtney making a lot of noise, making sure she wasn't missed.. and she had green hair .Nevermind was edging into the charts in Australia,(they weren't the biggest band in the world, yet), though there was major word of mouth on the street..they had played the night before at the now defunct Phoenician Club..(Anna Wood anyone?) and by all accounts had ripped Sydney a new one... the second show was announced after the band canceled their west oz shows- I guess to makeup for lost income-..it was at the Coogee Bay Hotel and the room wasn't even half full..
I wonder if Kurt scored any heroin in Australia? I'd imagine it was pretty hard to get. thats why Kurts not giving any interviews, he was in a horrible mood
Ever since Trump has been elected our president I have become vary depressed. The last six months I have covered my feelings or tried to fill the void by watching UA-cam videos of bands who feel angry or frustrated so I don't feel alone. Because I feel alone in my anger and frustration over our administration. Can anyone relate to my feelings?
Actually ... they were a very lame band at the end of grunge, not the start of grunge. There was 5 great years of underground Grunge in Melbourne, and then Nirvana came along and sent grunge to the pop sphere and killed it completely. I still remember listening to the simulcast of them playing at the Palace in Melbourne in 1992 and thinking ... 'uh oh, here goes our whole scene'. And off it went.
Soundgarden was signed way before Nirvana was. Plus there was Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains who were also popular at the time. Grunge was becoming popular period. Stop being such a fucking hipster about it. Lol
Valeria Ledesma Alice in Chains were way later on the scene, and were so very average, I count them at the end as well. Soundgarden were awesome in their early days. I don't even include Pearl Jam as they were (and are) so lame. Sub Pop was where grunge was at in the late eighties early 90s, I was there from the beginning to the end and Nirvana were the lame ducks we all blamed for diluting the scene altogether. Only thing more lame than Nirvana are the Foo Fighters, what a waste of time they are. If you were there in the day you would know what I mean. Ain't no hipster in me that's for sure, never will be. Especially if you mean today's 'hipster', which isn't a real hipster anyway, they just borrowed the word :)
austrailian underground grunge scene ptff what the fuck are you talking about. I can't believe you said Australian Underground GRUNGE scene. Thats the funniest shit i've ever heard. so i guess the "GRUNGE" movement started down under huh. you said australian GRUNGE hahahahahaha
one more and i'm gone. your all fucking wrong learn your history stop sounding like you know what your talking about. oh yea australian GRUNGE HAHAHAHAHAHA. Nirvana was awesome. changed my fucking life in 1991. i thank them for opening my mind when i was 12 years old…..Australian grunge lol You must love Silverchair.
How am I wrong? They're facts. And secondly who the fuck brought up Australian underground grunge? No one gives a fuck because no one knows what that is.
They smashed the door in... that's rock n roll!
Thanks for sharing this, I'm Australian and I have been looking for stuff about Nirvana in Australia :)

Shame this was the year I was born lol. Would have been interesting to see this.
Chris?
That's how he was spelling at the time, check the album liner notes. Only went back to Krist from In Utero onwards.
Can the young Australians of today relate to Kurt Cobain, assuming they even know who he was?
15yo here, Nirvana is still pretty popular among most of us I'd say, so I don't think you need to worry.

Bloody hell, they only really talk about people like ed sheeran or shit like that on the news.
Is it about the Big Day Out?
They called krist Chris?!? 😂
You realize that's how he himself was spelling it at the time, right? It wasn't til In Utero that he reverted back to Krist.
We all did in 1992 Sorry Krist
This is sooo old haha
