This is the all-new Mercedes EQS!
It’s Mercedes’ answer to the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan, and we think it might be one of the best-looking EVs we’ll see all year!
For starters, it more than looks the part… But then again, would you expect anything else from what's effectively an all-electric S-Class? What’s more, the performance stats are more than good enough. Powered by dual-electric motors, the EQS can deliver 523hp & 835Nm of torque! Not only that, but with an 108kWh battery pack hidden under the surface, it can also apparently provide you with 478 miles of range.
Ok so it may be a bit down compared to the Model S Plaid+, but let's face it, most electric cars will be! However, we think there’s one area where the EQS has the Tesla beat… The interior! Not only will you find high-quality materials throughout the cabin, up-front the dashboard is dominated by the Mercedes Hyperscreen, with a HUGE 18-inch touchscreen down the middle which is flanked by two 12-inch displays!

Totally correct. Plus it shall appeal to the tech-savy generations - until they find out, that physical buttons are way better on the road, then make them pay extra for it ;-)

Yup. Cheaper to make, and less likely to stop working. Just like an electric motor with 1 moving part is less likely to break than an ICE, with a million moving parts.

I used to have a car like this at uni in the late 80s. Yes. My Opel Manta GT Hatch back also had frameless windows. It did. And it was electric. You needed to hot wire it to start. And a Rick James cassette was stuck in the player for 2 years, which boost the overall electricity. A real Super Freak. All true.
One feature you missed with the door mirrors, you dont have to choose which mirror to adjust. You can look at the mirror you wanna adjust, then adjust it.

I can't imagine how big this car is until 15:47. Matt really looked like a kid standing next to this car.
I'm genuinely impressed with the interiors and the drag coefficient, absolutely love those wood trims mixed with technological features like the screens and leds.
However the exteriors leave me kind of "meh", I wish they retained that luxury throwback design they've been using on the S-classes of the last decade, with the iconic hood adornment and chrome grill. I just hate that every car manufacturer making an EV has to exaggerate with the futuristic look, can't we just have a model S with Mercedes interiors?

I'm loving the interior and hating the exterior while wishing the performance matched the price tag. There's literally no reason it can't unless Mercedes is saving that for the ultra-expensive forthcoming AMG version. Mixed feelings

I'd like to see both a range test and a charge test. Also feel free to show off the autonomous parking feature in a busy parking lot. That feature is amazing.
Watch the German video from Carmaniac...about 450 km at 150km/h on German Autobahn...10 to 80% in 32 mins and 84kwh loaded in this time...and this values were measured at 0° Celsius. Will be much better in Summer temperature.
With lower speed it will be for sure 600km in real live.

Didn't realise how long it was until I saw Mat stand beside it at the end. This thing is huge: 5216mm! Here in Sweden the standard garage size used to be 5100mm some decades ago...
The freggin car memorizes where the pot holes are on a road you've previously travelled and adjusts your suspension in real time if you drive over them..... I am speechless.
I definitely want to see a range test between the EQS, Model S, and a Taycan! The big 6 digit baddies of the EV world!
I mean the Taycan is not even comparable to the other two in terms of range. But likely blows them out of the water when it comes to driving dynamics and handling...
The Taycan has lower range but is by far the best drivers car, the EQS is the most luxurious and well made out of the 3 and the Tesla is the most practical.
Add in the Lucid Air and you will have a four car test
First talk about the EPA range the most conservative range test wltp is quite impossible to reach . Until you compare the EPA Vs epa range it won't be quite fair. I think in EPA terms the eqs is ~400miles or maybe less

I can't believe he didn't talk about one of the coolest thing in this car. There isn't a separate left and right mirror adjustments. It's just one and it adjusts the miror that your looking at at that moment using sensors. Mind blown...

This car puts Tesla to shame in every area except range and the difference there is miniscule. Tesla has my respect as the forbearer of high end electric vehicles but they have always been an embarrassment to the concept of true luxury. We needed the king to step in and get it done correctly. Bravo Mercedes!

Mat, I would love to see a comparison of the EQS vs the EQS SUV. Which rides better, which has better suspension etc. The reason is that many times the EQS has such low ground clearance, the bottom scrapes a bit due to it being a long wheelbase. My only apprehension of not diving in. But the EQS 580 Sedan vs the EQS 580 SUV (or like for like engines) would make a great video as I'm sure a lot of people would want to see this comparison - even though they are two different car segments.

@@wailfaridi2070 I feel like Rolls Royce would do just fine at Nurburgring. Sure, it's not made for lap times, but it has crazy advanced suspensions which eliminates bodyroll and keeps it stable. And it has decent pick up for being a boat.

It's more reliable, they don't break over time. No mechanical parts

And touch sensitivity means that I could accidentally activate the control when I don’t want to, too. My car has just one touch-sensitive control - a radio volume slider - and it was easy to activate by mistake. Thankfully it can be turned off, which I did by the second day of owning the thing.
I liked how you edited it so it looked like Mat was being driven down the Amalfi Coast, then it cuts back to the cabin interior and you can see a duel carriageway barrier out of the window. Ha! 👍😂

It's what the model S claims to be though. And same price range. If the model S isn't a true luxury sedan, it shouldn't be a six figure car. Tesla either needs to step up the S or drop the price a lot. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

@@banks8692 Yeah, the model S would have never have been considered a luxury sedan had it been an ICE car. Some people just think quality and comfort magically equals the performance of a car... The model S is simply a performance sedan with lots of tech. These days you are also basically paying premium money for a really dated, 9 year old exterior design.

Fun fact: you don’t need to toggle which mirror you’re adjusting in the eqs, the car will adjust whichever mirror you’re directly looking at.

It is nice but it surprises me that their UI interface is still lagging so much (see around 3:50) ? Hopefully it is a prototype and it will be faster when finished / after updates.
Miss the good old 911 days where all you had was a gear knob, a steering wheel, a basic stereo and lots of power.
Can't even imagine how much that huge solid touchscreen glass would cost to replace if someone just scratched it with a metal key fob.

This is essentially a 20 minute commercial for a (lovely) mercedes _that has 4 commercials_
The new millenium is nutz.
When you test the EQS do a Motor Trend figure 8 for time and lateral Gs.
Then take it to a British race track with a loooong straightaway (or an old airport runway) and test for top speed.
Then try it out for drifting ability (;o) - or not.
Finally test out that trunk with rear seats laid down for "fooling around" and see if it is feasible with the trunk privacy tonneau cover on. Gives "privacy cover" a whole new meaning. .

if a pixle of the display is not working ... but such a car won't be bought since it will be leased , so it's all under warrenty. And concerning the front hood which only can be opend by a mechanic at the service station - it's better to have "service included".

Not super turned on by the design. It's hard to deny the value that the new long range Tesla model S brings (at least here in the USA) with 0-60 at 3.1 seconds. Although I do appreciate the silent ride and better interior and features of the EQS.

Some more official numbers: Charging 300 km (@ 130 km/h) within 15 minutes. Real range 650 kilometers at 130 km/h (Consumption 16.0 kwh). - Extremely stable charging curve: Max 200 kw/h, average charging from 5%-75% 163 kw/h.

Range test and group test against the model S, please! Those range tests are some of the most informative videos on these cars.
From german autobahn testing. Person driving it 150 km/h on autobahn in 2 celsius got a consumption of 25 kwh/100 km. 👌 Considering it was still winter, that person presumed that during sommer the consumption would be ~5 kwh lower.
Which is really unbelievable for an BEV. They really have done a great job.
I believe Honda, Mazda and Nissan had 4 wheel steering in the 80s... it is finally catching on almost 40 years later.

It will loose every drag race against the cars you mentioned. An AMG version was mentioned by another review so I think that could possibly be the better comparison speed wise (but definitely not price wise lol)

The understanding of security has changed a lot. In the past, the screen would turn off for safety when you put the gear in the driving position. Nowadays it's like we're in the movie theater. Screen everywhere!
Same goes for trucks, in my truck we have to have the stupid 360degree cameras for going into London now & the screen inside the cab is stupidly annoying & off putting, you cant turn it off
Yup. And even better we have to find and touch icons on said screens sometimes going through multiple menus to find things.

Benz raised the bar on what more can clever electronics do for the driving experience (that is the appeal of the ESQ, over TESLA at this moment). It's a healthy competition, so Elon will come up with matching upgrades - some, at least, short of becoming a super luxury class vehicle. Fortunately for us, the electronic part is very cheap to produce! Okay, you asked, so my vote is still for Tesla: price range, less costly to repair, more me (average joe). But that two tone paint job.... You're witty, great, smart, interesting. My vote's on your side. We want to see you in the driving seat and test drive SpaceX SN16 or SN17. Fear not!
