I've definitely heard this sung in Newfoundland before, the tune is very familiar
It’s nearly the same as “Admiral Benbow”, and I’m convinced that the tune was taken directly from “Capatain Kidd”.

I can hear it too, albeit it’s an upbeat iteration of “Ye Jacobites/Diggers”. That’s the mystery behind this song, the original melody it was sung to.
