@@p3p_flyfishing Hey P3! Off to the Mitta next week then a week at the spawn run on the way home. Not much water down south at the moment, though. And the crowds on the Euc will be a problem with the north of the park shut down for the horse kill. I'm not a fan of crowds and we've been spolit down there the last few years, so we'll have to see. But yes, planning to hit up TCD a fair bit and wouldn't mind a trip or two south, as well. I'll have a look and see if I can find your contact and drop you a line. Intersted in the mid west?? Centre of the universe, you know. 🙂 I have a streamer strategy. No laughing. PP

true! it was probably the most consistent rises of all the spots i fished over 30 days down there. It's always nice to find spots that surprise you and exceed expectations.

like everything it can depend - to keep it simple I generally just fish a 9ft 4x leader. From there I can add tippet as required, however I generally wouldn't fish 5-6x on a lake unless you are possibly fishing midges to super fussy fish.

G'day gadget, glad you thought the same thing! The fish at 5:10 was such a weird occurrence - I thought he would see me for sure when I was trying to retrieve my line to cast at him. I must have just been lucky to approach at the perfect angle - or perhaps he was just getting a bit old and blind :P The two possums duns were shown to me by an old fella on one of the lakes - he was kind enough to give me two of the flies he uses as well. A size 12 (possum dun) on the top fly followed by 40cm of tippet to a size 14. (possum dun) The top fly will kind of hold while the bottom fly swings around off the back of it. Gives the fish options on size. Caught on both flies but the bottom fly, size 14 got a few more. Tbh I king of wished a fished the possums duns a bit earlier in the trip - it was rare for the fish ton refuse them.

@@p3p_flyfishing How do you keep track of the Possum Duns? I struggle to see dry flies that unless they have a bit of white - which is why I have fished the Cat 3 Chernobyl UV so much recently - it is just so easy for me to see - that said, I know that I need to practice more with smaller dry flies - I do have some Parachute Adams (#14, #16, #18) in my stash, which are a lot smaller, but have some white so that I can sort of see them - can you actually see your flies or do you just know where your flies are on the water based on years of experience?

Cheers PP ! If I recall he was a bit of 3.5lb. The possum duns were deadly - and super easy to tie. I'm keen to test them in the snowys. Just got back from a hectic trip into some rough country. Has to be some of the best waters I've ever seen - unfortunately the fishing was super ordinary. Still nice to get out into nature. You manage to get down that way for Easter with the boy and wife?

@@p3p_flyfishing Unfortunately boy wonder sabotaged the last trip by falling off his ebike and wrecking a hoof. Most inconsiderate. She who knows whats best for me is currently cruising the Alps looking for smarter men while I man the fort. Hopefully down to Vic for the hols. Your wilderness expeds are always interesting, lots of snakes of unusual size, lost rods of despair, mostly dead river crossings... I'll keep an eye out for the next instalment! 😀

@@mrpoopypants9586 yep tbh the fishing was pretty tough down there - found a lot of dead fish, much smaller sizes that previously, and quite a lot of anglers - hopefully it's just an off year. With NSW/snowies fishing so well over that Jan-Feb time period, it's hard justifying heading to tassie when we have such awesome waters closer to home.

@@p3p_flyfishing Not just about the fish, though, eh? Had to laugh I thought at the start you yelled out the window "You Tassie devils". Thought you were abusing the locals on the lake, but no, it actually was a Tassie devil! ha ha.

It's an awesome spot - so many options. Worth grabbing a copy of Trout Waters of Tasmania by Greg French if you aren't too sure where to fish.

hey mate, the tent is a Lanshan 1 ( the "Lanshan 1" has the double wall, the "Landshan 1 Pro" has the single wall - I recommend a double wall if camping near the river due to better condensation management). You could also go the Lanshan 2 for extra room or if there is two of you sharing a tent.

@p3p_flyfishing thanks mate. I would have thought with where u go, u might have got a 4 season tent. I'm currently stuck with a $14 kmart tent!

​@@danielbass2333The Lanshan is a good budget option for an ultralight tent - can get some pretty fancy/expensive ones from the US. My setup in the video is for fly fishing expeditions where I am carrying my pack all day while I hike and fish - in this situation I go for minimal weight. River season is oct-june so unlikely to be caught out by snow/blizzard conditions. For winter mountaineering, where there is a much higher chance of exposure killing you, I use the Wilderness Equipment Second Arrow UL.

PP it's my phone - using the Gaia GPS app, check it out. The free version is awesome. Logs all my fishing and I'll often mark spots where i caught fish or spotted monsters - that way I can always come back next time :P

@@mrpoopypants9586 tbh the fishing was tougher than i thought. Was hoping to find monsters however the size and quality of fish i saw were a lot less than two years ago. Heaps of smaller fish and lots of dead 3-4lb fish - saw a dead fish in just about every lake. A lot of fisherman about as well. Just fished Jindy lake and one of the rivers in the park on the weekend and was seeing 2 to 5 lb fish and not another fisherman in sight. We have it pretty good right here in southern NSW. Saying that the tassie highland lakes are stunning and it's a beautiful part of the country - def worth a visit, good fishing or not.

@@p3p_flyfishing Thanks for the info. Yeah, it sounds like the Tassie seasons are as changeable as up here. We were in the Snowies last week and the Blueys this week. Such good fishing about, just hope the water keeps coming. We had the boat on Eucumbene a while back and one day we got 8 fish over 60cm. The Snowy lakes are in rude good health. The rivers were getting baked last week but we had a bloody hilarious night on a river catching and dropping , bushing and tripping over fish in the dark. All on hoppers. Lost more than we landed. We're pretty lucky to have it, eh? PP
