Glad City girl is good 👍. By the way, the butcher block would be lovely. It's my favorite type of countertop. Hello from Indiana USA and this 61 years old lady. ( At least till next month when I turn 62). And I am happy to be getting older. Every day above ground is a good day 😊👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😁😁
Love the idea of butcher block❤ I did that across from my washer and dryer in my basement decades ago and it was great for folding clothes on too. For preparing food. that’s an awesome idea. I had a portable dishwasher with a butcher block top and it’s lovely for food prep. City girl love the idea using carrot tops. I do that all the time because I grow carrots and you put the tops in the freezer and then smash them in the bag and they come out like parsley when they’re frozen. They’re great addition to soups or stews. Glad you were OK after falling in the ice! That is scary.
Please watch City Girl's latest video! She sleds down the hill toward the pond! Willow gets excited and bites her! Click here! ua-cam.com/video/GtXfpVP18Zs/v-deo.html. Also, please note this video was premiered! You can watch the chat replay on PC or mobile. Look for it on the top right of your screen. (I think). Just look for Show Chat Replay).
Lots of drama in this week's video. Lot's of questions too! I'm glad City Girl was ok and close to the cabin. It was awfully cold earlier this week. The kind of weather that brings out the Kee-Kee Birds, as my dad used to say. You know, the birds that sit at the top of the tallest, most wind-swept spruce trees in the middle of the winter, filling the wilderness with their cries - Keee-Kee-Kee-Keerist it's cold!! ❄🧊🥶🧊❄
Hi Russell...enjoyed your video again. Cool footage of the snow melting & nature showing off its winter splendor 😁 Still wondering about the epoxy counter 🤔 it sounds like it may get tricky to get it looking good if you haven't done it before & expensive. How about making an epoxy piece that is more of an accent piece, on a board that is removable? I like the butcher block idea for a counter 🤓
There are “Ice Clips”, they look like little claws that are attached at both ends of a string. They go through the sleeves of your jacket, like the way we wore our mittens when a kid. When you fall through the ice, water covers it and make it slippery, these clips are used to grasp at the ice and help you get out of the water.
SOOOooo glad city Girl is ok!!Hope Russells ear is ok.Heard there will be a new channel called"City Girl cooks"cuz that dish looked AWESOME(and great on a cold day)!I vote option A.See ya tonight!
I hope your ear is ok! And I’m glad CG didn’t sustain any trouble from falling through the ice! As for your cabinets, they are beautiful, as is. You don’t need to close up a teeny gap. It’s all good. You’d be the only one to notice. As for counters, I’d install the best water proof counter nearest the sink, and then the entire island a fully useable butcher block, and for the rest the same resilient counter top you put around the sink. For temporary cutting areas you can always use a cutting board. Remember that butcher block that isn’t perma sealed, requires frequent cleaning, wiping, drying, and re-sealing with oil of choice. Hence, the more unsealed butcher block, the more time and care. It all depends upon your kitchen needs and how much you want to pay, upgrade, and perform special upkeep. I love butcher block. But I also love many perma sealed countertops as well. I’m not wild about ceramic tile, as far as upkeep. I love the looks though. Meanwhile, I'll be very envious if you turn your whole island top into useable butcher block. I had a smaller island in husband and my 3rd home, the one during our brief stay in Arkansas in the 80s. I designed it, he built it, I used it mainly for my breads and baking. It also could be rolled around the big kitchen. I wish I had designed it larger though. Like yours. It looks so roomy and convenient.
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin It wasn't shy. It was afraid. I heard it say, "Please don't put me in the fridge. It's too cold! I ain't gonna go, no no noooo...!"
I beg NOT to do the epoxy on the counter tops. It is too expensive and not always works. I've seen people have to redo the epoxy counters over and over again to get it to work. If you have to epoxy something just do it on the island counter only.
I’m not sure the chat in the video was working …….. I was shouting option A ….was it because I live in the UK that you couldn’t hear? 😂 Sorry that city girl had that frightening moment, hope that she was ok after. I vote for oiled butcher block - not that it’s got anything to do with me and I won’t have to repeat oil it!
I'm glad city girl is ok. Was her pants froze solid before she got back to the cabin? Just wondering. You read my mind for how to hang the snow shoes. Kramer was an excellent choice for hanging, you got to film her reaction when she notice's it. Hope you guys have a great weekend! I'll see ya tonight!
"How about a belt of Tequila? Oh hell yeah!" Lol. My kind of people! ❤ If that is what it sounds like when CG freaked out, what is she like when she is calm? 🤔 Calm and collected outside, screaming inside. I am so glad she is okay. 🤗 COSMO KRAMER!!! Thank you for the wonderful video! As for the trivia, no clue what that movie is from (but it looks so familiar and I am sure I have watched it!) Is it Richie Rich? I do not know why you would have a crossbow arrow. 🤔 I hope someone is able to guess it! Have a great weekend! PS: I always watch your video first and then I watch Jonna Jinton's video. You are the two channels that drop your videos on Friday. Jonna lives in Sweden and she also reported -20 C on her side of the planet!
Epoxy sounds very expensive to me i would buy countertop i actually made my desk out of it bought at IKEA it was like 130 dollars for 75x200cm, 3,5cm thick walnut mdf core. And there is so many other options in countertop material whole wood also. What ever you want to be cutting on should be mobile and changeable, it's sayd plastic is more hygenic compared to wood cause when you cut the cut stays open and its easily cleaned out. I like the way wood looks though but apparently it traps bacteria inside, in the old days when butcher blocks was common in the meat industry they would salt them down at the end of the day after washing them.
I love watching your stuff,,we think your a natural,so funny,,really glad city girl didn't hurt herself, almost as mad as you lol,but a lovely cook, that stew looked awesome..keep us chuckling guys, love from UK...

Butcher block is a good idea for the island. Maybe something "good" but less money? Thank God city girl did go through up to her neck!! Fur babies sure love you. Stay safe and warm. God bless and protect.
Hi Russell! I would just do up the island, if that is where you do food prep, with butcher block. Then I would do the rest with regular counter top. Less expensive? You can also buy butcher block cleaner and wood conditioner/ also at Home Hardware. Pea soup.
I'm wondering if I've missed an episode? I've followed your problems with your ATV and not getting it back and having to borrow your friend's but I don't think I saw you get yours back? No Russel Not Krammer another great video Russ and City girl . nice to see Junebug and willow their getting some white hair eh, they are so cute .
Very scary when City Girl went through the ice, but it could have been so much worse. Just thank goodness she wasn't hurt. I knew a couple that built a house on the top of a mountain in New Hampshire. They had never built a house before and made a few poor choices on several minor things. Most of them could be corrected pretty easily. One of them was choosing to put the light switches on the wrong side of the doors. Very unhandy, but, just like you, it was trial and error sometimes. I think you have done a fantastic job on your cabin. It looks great. I hope you and City Girl enjoy it for many years to come.
So glad City Girl is ok and was able to get up back to safety. I think the butcher block counters would be great just don't put a hot pan on them as it could crack the wood. Glad too that you stopped Willow and Junebug from the passing wolf as who knows how that would have ended. Enjoy the weekend and pea soup..
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin Well it matches the feel of the cabin, cheaper than other materials, easy to clean, and if stains or dents happen you can sand them out. Down side is no hot pans and it will contract with temperature in spring/winter so add 1/8 inch allowance at install. Lots of woods/stains to chose from too.
..about your citchen rant. I did all the counter tops from 40mm thick oak. I made a cutting board from the cutout of the sink hole. Just rounded it up with a router Blends nicely to the citchen and fits perfectly over the sink if more counter top space is needed
Ah, ok, Option...Michael Richards---he's out there, and he's lovin' every minute of it! "Out there" meaning out on the porch, versus his Guys being "out there." Wow, so glad Alicia didn't get submerged any more than she did! Was it as cold that day as it was on the trip in? Kudos to her for being able to extract herself. I would've prolly thrashed about and made the situation worse. My daughter-in-law did some sort of epoxy type coating on her existing Formica countertops. She's done it twice now, but the first time started to peel a bit after a few years. This last time she got the more expensive option (doubt it was $750, tho) and it looks like it might be more durable. It requires many steps but does look very nice. But I'm not sure this is the same thing as I don't think the one you're considering is meant for this type of application. Maybe your type is called Deep Pour? I looked around and I did see a lot of wood type countertops with clear epoxy over the top. So maybe you could come up with a combo of some sort?
Send some of that cold to south eastern Pennsylvania…we have been having a stupidly warm February…Feels upside down…I hate it…No snow whatsoever. Love your channel so much Russel and City Girl.
No idea on the trivia. Definitely butcher block for all the cabinet tops. I would still use a chopping block piece to slice and dice as it keeps the surface nice. So pleased I live in the tropics!!!
Hey Russell, just curious.....how far is your cabin from where your car is parked and how long does it take to get to it? I can't tell if its 10 minutes or considerably longer.
Long time subscriber! I would get a piece of solid surface, stone like countertop for the island. You could probably get an off cut at a countertop place. I know the problem is getting it there safely through the four wheeler path. Just to break up all the wood tones a little bit.
I have to commend City Girl after falling through the ice..no matter how scared she was, she did the first rule of survival " Don't Panic" ..and you Russel braving that trail in that cold. Shawn James has nothing on you.. You are pretty rugged, but always keep your videos light hearted and funny. I know something about braving the cold. I spent most of my life in New York State, then lived in Western Michigan. Jani and I now live in Western Washington. I would recommend a Garmin S.O.S. if you don't already have one, for when you are going on the trail from the cabin to the road and back, but they aren't cheap. Then again you and City Girl are priceless. Stay safe both of you. Pea Soup ✌️
When you said, do you see what I see? In reference to the kitchen cabinets. I saw it right away.. Not the gap in the cabinet, ET's face in the panel of the door. :) Ha ha Ha..
Be very careful when it comes to your dogs and Coyotes. Coyotes will intentionally send one member of the pack out, to draw a dog into chasing it, and the rest of the pack will be waiting somewhere, in ambush, and kill your dog or dogs. They use that tactic quite frequently.
Diagonally side by side Russell. Like it symbolizes you and City Girl walking together forever 💜 I wish I could post a picture to show you what I mean. 👋👋 Like this but the snow shoes. And lastly, I would seriously go with the butcher blocks instead of the epoxy. You'll be saving a ton of money, either with a new counter or even epoxy with the butcher blocks. Love you Russell and City Girl xoxo 💜 🌹
Great Video Russell! Movie was Ferris Bueller's Day off. If you purchase the chopping board counter tops your epoxy will not have to be as poured as thick.
I had to deal with coyotes most of my life...the dog would know the coyote is danger, not just another "dog". It's mating season and that's dangerous for pets, they know you have dogs by smelling their urine. That coyote was a female to attract the dogs, the others are waiting in the distance. Please don't let your dogs out on the pond, it doesn't matter if your there, they will attack your dogs. Mating season is now until end of Feb, early March..
I worry a good bit about one of y'all falling through the ice. The headline had me worried. Butcher block sounds nice, mixed feelings about epoxy. If you do both won't parts be different heights?
Have you ever measured the distance from your car to your cabin? You know, you can get your panels cut at Home Depot. They do it on a panel saw so you get a nice straight line.

I think the butcher block on the island. You would want a waterproof finish I think. Most likely I would do butcher block on the island and something else on the countertops. The countertops kind of need to set off from the raw wood cabinets and island for looks. You can wait to do the counters since you already have a surface. I can only imagine a dark countertop with all the light wood but this may be something for the wife unit to decide.
I can't believe City Girl fell through the ice! How can it be so frozen on that whole pond and not frozen near the edge? It's so darn cold!! Hope your ear is better Russell! 💓
Maybe you can show us the great planets' Jupiter and Venus conjunction in the evening western sky at the end of the month. The Northern lights are visible south into the States this week.
If you are going to ask our opinion on decorating and talk to us at least hold up the magic mirror and recite: “Romper, bomper, stomper boo. Tell me, tell me, tell me, do. Magic Mirror, tell me today, did all my friends have fun at play?”
I also eat the carrot tops as do my dogs, well I only have one now as my shadow Buckley passed away 2 weeks ago. But yea, carrots tops are not only tasty but also good for you. I have never fallen through the ice, but can only emagine how scary it would be especially if you are on your own. So glad City girl is OK and also I'm sure some what wiser from the experience. And yourself; did you get frost? I have read that this is also a serious thing. Just hope you did'nt get frost bite. Option A as it will look like you are walking up to the roof. Sorry I was late with my suggestion, I some how missed this Video yesterday, Anyway you hung the snow shoes up as I would have anyway. Butcher block is the go for sure. You are unreal, I thought you had spotted a little bug or something, then realised you were talking to a bottle of ketchup. Great video though and Cheers. PS: That's easy you intend to purchase a cross bow, right
I just laughed way to freakin hard with that ketsup bottle.. the center island ..yes must definitely butcher block.. and B was my choice.. be careful City girl!!! Have a great weekend ❤️☮️
Please both of you be careful. Russell wrap a long sweater scarf around your head and ears and then tie at neck, then put your hoodie over it. And Alicia why even gamble and walk on the lake or the edge. Please you guys be careful. 😊
If you just used butcher block it would be easy to care for. No epoxy. At the restaurant we just bleached it down using a spray bottle. Wiped it down and then used mineral oil to protect it. It was an easy to clean area.
Boos Butcher Block is a famous manufacturer in USA. They are located in Effingham, Illinois. They manufacture restaurant counters and household chopping boards. I happen to own a 100 year old 500 pound chopping block in my kitchen. They could manufacture any size maple counter you need but they are so heavy that shipping would be an ouchie to the wallet.
Take that rubber propane line from the stove through the floor to the tanks out and put a coated copper line in before a mouse chews a hole in it and you have a leak in between the insulation. Retired country Plumber. Tom😵
I gave you the snowshoes in 2020 when you came fishing. They belonged to my grandfather. I think the snowshoes looked better hung up versus a picture of Kramer.

Pea Soup ✌️
Thanks John. I do carry a standard kozoo for emergencies.
When you said, do you see what I see? In reference to the kitchen cabinets. I saw it right away.. Not the gap in the cabinet, ET's face in the panel of the door. :) Ha ha Ha..
I like option a best for the snowshoes!
Russell, I'm going to watch it again! 😉
Great concept with the chat during video...I like it 👌 see you tonight at Booxefest 🍻
See you tonight, Karen
Be very careful when it comes to your dogs and Coyotes. Coyotes will intentionally send one member of the pack out, to draw a dog into chasing it, and the rest of the pack will be waiting somewhere, in ambush, and kill your dog or dogs. They use that tactic quite frequently.
Junebug is too timid, and will stick by the cabin on sighting that. Willow is too fast to be trapped.
Yup, was pretty cold, got to -25 even all the way down here in Waterville.
Diagonally side by side Russell. Like it symbolizes you and City Girl walking together forever 💜 I wish I could post a picture to show you what I mean.
👋👋 Like this but the snow shoes. And lastly,
I would seriously go with the butcher blocks instead of the epoxy. You'll be saving a ton of money, either with a new counter or even epoxy with the butcher blocks. Love you Russell and City Girl xoxo 💜 🌹
I get what you're saying, FG. Please say it slower next time
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin
LOL 😂 I'll try
Just found you from your Reddit AMA. Super cool content so far. I've subbed. Nice channel man, I really hope to live like you someday!
Russell your spending to much time alone , sure sign when you talk to ketchup bottles. LOL
He's just shy.
Great Video Russell! Movie was Ferris Bueller's Day off. If you purchase the chopping board counter tops your epoxy will not have to be as poured as thick.
Thanks Chuck. You don't want to know how many clues I had to give CG before she got the movie.
are you putting the arrow into the ceiling for decor
No!
We have butcher block countertops and just used a conditioner on top. Turned out nice.
Thanks Lorraine, but you don't know anything about coyotes.
I worry a good bit about one of y'all falling through the ice. The headline had me worried. Butcher block sounds nice, mixed feelings about epoxy. If you do both won't parts be different heights?
"How bout a belt of tequila?" "Oh HELL yeah."
Have you ever measured the distance from your car to your cabin? You know, you can get your panels cut at Home Depot. They do it on a panel saw so you get a nice straight line.
Not with a ruler, Richard.
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin I was thiniing more along the lines of an odometer.. Just curious.
I love how you crack yourself up putting up the pic😂
I think the butcher block on the island. You would want a waterproof finish I think. Most likely I would do butcher block on the island and something else on the countertops. The countertops kind of need to set off from the raw wood cabinets and island for looks. You can wait to do the counters since you already have a surface. I can only imagine a dark countertop with all the light wood but this may be something for the wife unit to decide.
Thanks Gordon, but should I put on the butcher block if I want to process fish on it?
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin rinse and repeat
I can't believe City Girl fell through the ice! How can it be so frozen on that whole pond and not frozen near the edge? It's so darn cold!! Hope your ear is better Russell! 💓
That's the fuckery of ponds, Dovey.
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin OIC! Just glad it wasn't any deeper!
I think the butcher block will be a nice addition to your kitchen.
City girl seems to be the smart one wearing a helmet. That's one of the biggest reason to wear one in the winter. Your body heat stays in
Yep, I should wear one too.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Great vid as always. Keep on keepin’ on. What movie is that from 😂
You got it, Eric.
option A 🧐👌💕 (and the... portrait... on the back entrance porch) 💫👍👏
Great video as always. Butcher Block idea it's nice idea. Better check with City Girl oh, she's the boss. See you tonight
Russel, we're gonna expect a fall every video!😄
Do you carry safety picks when you're out on the ice?
No, I usually brush my teeth before I head out.
When you install butcher block counters, you need to 45 degree in the corners of the kitchen to make the pattern match.
Would you consider another option? What about both upright, maybe turned a little?
I would consider other options, Steph.
Your kitchen looks so good!
Thanks Shauna!
This show is the real deal, Alex. No fairy tales.
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin you just brought me right back to Miss Betty on Romper Room when you were reading out all the names.
PS: That's easy you intend to purchase a cross bow, right
That looked to be a delishpadish!
-22 eh? You see, this is why I moved from Ontario to the Fraser Valley, BC.
I can't believe you have the same picture of Kramer. Mine's hanging in my "Man Cave" basement work shop. All hail Cosmo! See you tonight.
Interesting adding carrot tops never did that. I’ll have to try it………
I didn't know it was a thing, Shauna.
I like A best, the snowshoes are much better that some dead animal part.
I want to put up Steve's toe.
Russell glad to see you hit 61k. Let's get to 65. Love the Kramer. He's a hideous brute!!
Haywood, where you been?
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin I work every Saturday morning at 6 so I haven't been able to get to Booxefest. I miss it.
I just laughed way to freakin hard with that ketsup bottle.. the center island ..yes must definitely butcher block.. and B was my choice.. be careful City girl!!! Have a great weekend ❤️☮️
Thanks Yvonne. Unfortunately that ketchup bottle had its head taken off and much blood taken. He now lives in quarantine is a cold environment.
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin and for what? just for being shy?! atrocious.
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin and in that cold environment he can make friends.. bahaaha
Maybe wear goggles when it's cold? Balaclava as well?
That edge you're talking about is called a bullnose edge
I beg to differ.
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin ok
Don't wallhang those snowshoes. Sand them, treat them with spar varnish, saddle soap for the bindings, and USE them!
Cat, can I burn them?
The movie was "Pretty in Pink"
Nope.
Snow shoes right way up like a tree
Please both of you be careful. Russell wrap a long sweater scarf around your head and ears and then tie at neck, then put your hoodie over it. And Alicia why even gamble and walk on the lake or the edge. Please you guys be careful. 😊
Hey Russell, love the video!
Thanks Kevin!
If you just used butcher block it would be easy to care for. No epoxy. At the restaurant we just bleached it down using a spray bottle. Wiped it down and then used mineral oil to protect it. It was an easy to clean area.
I live next to Boos Butcher Blocks but the expense would be the shipping. 😊
No idea who that is.
Tom😵
I would go with B
I gave you the snowshoes in 2020 when you came fishing. They belonged to my grandfather. I think the snowshoes looked better hung up versus a picture of Kramer.
I'll put them back up, the screws are still there. I just want to surprise City Girl
A for sure.
The talking Ketchup bottle reminded me of Butt Man....lol. Thanks for the video Russell
Long lost tomatoey brother?
Do it all in butcher block. It will look so cabin ready.
It would, Susan.
get what you really want, buy once, cry once
I agree, Possum fella.
