Hello! I like you both very much as a couple. Russell you are brilliant, insightful, non-conformist, honest and authentic with yourself and with all of us who are happy to watch you, every week. You seem like a very nice person, with ideas, creativity and ingenuity. You are not afraid to show your strengths and weaknesses. I like you because you do what you want, how you want it, and when you want it, at your own pace. You chose the way to live your life, because that was the way you wanted it to be. In Greece, some years ago, lived a great writer, NIKOS KAZANZAKIS, who died in 1957 at the age of 74, and on his tombstone it is written: 'I believe in nothing, I fear of nothing, I am free'. Russell you are free, because you are true, decent, genuine, and independent. I admire you and your wife who seems to be of the same beliefs and values as you, I admire you and have tremendous respect for the life you chose to live. (Even if is way far from my preferences). I like people who respect everyone, they are kind to everyone, but they are not dependent on anyone, they stand on their own two feet and don't care about anyone's opinion and do exactly what they want, while respecting everyone around them. They are complete, balanced in their own imbalances, and so is your wife, whole and honest. No wonder you make such a nice couple. You seem to me like two straight shooters, independent, full of love, respect and appreciation for each other. By the way, the photograph you chose for the refrigerator door, is revealing of your sensitive and caring heart. I don’t know what came over me and declared my admiration to you, but my gut ordered me to write these few words. Sorry for being such a blabber mouth. Yes, you are free my friend, so free indeed. I wish I could meet you both, but this will never happen. I will keep watching your videos though every week. My admiration to both, and my best wishes for your speedy recovery. Be well!

You have articulated almost my same exact thoughts. I first saw one of the viral vids from last winter when we had a huge snow storm here in Ontario, one video in and I knew ...I had to go, all the way back to the very beginning. I forget how many videos Russell has made but I dare say it’s a few hundred for sure. I watchEd her every single one and forced myself to not watch any new current videos that came out. I’m kinda weird like that I’ve done this on a few channels. I was so taken with this concept of just giving up the “city life” and through much strife and many trials Russell not once gave up, not once. Sure, maybe he sat a thing down when things weren’t going right but he came back to it and finished it. I grew up in the Country, my little village only had 300 people it still to this day is around that. I grew up in a poor farm, the kind where the thing that grew the best were rocks :)
Through all of the videos one thing remains true, Russell’s deep love for his beautiful wife and his commitment to this way of life he has chosen. I’m not sure I could do it for much more than a week but, I don’t watch because he is “like me” I watch because he’s someone I aspire to be. Your comment was lovely, I enjoyed every word. I too have been known to be a little wordy...I don’t much care anymore, lol...I always enjoy the comments like “ who cares”...ha ha ha on one such lengthy comment I now have over 45,000 “likes”. I find that so funny 😆. So, when I read someone’s comment trying to be snappy “ who cares”...I think, “ well, apparently about 45,000 people do, that’s who” lol. The Internet is a funny place!

It's interesting to see another approach to off grid living. We have had our off grid cabin for over 20 years here in the Yukon. It's not fancy, as everything has to be hauled in over very rough trail behind the atv or skidoo. Our trail in the non-snow months takes about 2-3 hours, while in the winter months, via skidoo, we can shoot across the lake and cut off 2 km of rough trail and cut our time down to a mere 30 minutes! Depending on how many trees we need to cut off the trail that is. lol! When we first took over the cabin, the beaver had eaten themselves into starvation. With trapping, we have managed to bring a healthy population of beaver, muskrats and river otter back to our lake and stream.

Holy cow, that would be one super solar set up, otherwise known as the SSSU system or ultimately, the SSSUS. I loved that river, that was so cool how it flows under the limestone like that, what a nice area. I do love your gas filler with the pump, I knew that you would find your cap, you’re not the rag in the gas hole kinda guy.... Wow Russell, isn’t that trail to your house about 3 miles one way? Holy shit, that’s 6 miles a day, 3 with a backpack and you’re on slow heart medication, dang, what a freakin hardship! And there’s those pesky beavers, like don’t they have anything else to do? This last build was like the footings for a condo, sheesh! Lastly, that was a very good commercial, nice, honest job there!

Couldn't agree more with what you said about tipping. Most of the time I'll hand the person who gave me good service cash because I don't trust the tipping system a lot of the time. I'm always worried it'll just go to the business owner or get split amongst everyone. The tip should go to the person providing the service and the level or service they provide to you.

I really enjoyed this video, as so much content from many different subjects. And they were all interesting. I enjoyed seeing how many leaves that have accumulated around your property. I planted around 700 trees of many different varieties on an old cow pasture on my farm and the leaves this year were spectacular, but I fortunately can drive my lawnmower around and kind of shred the leaves and let mother nature take care of them along with fertilizing the grass. I hope to see you tonight on live feed as it would be nice to see you both. Take care and stay healthy.

Hey Russel, you won't beat those beavers. My trail is 60kms long. I dedicate one day a month just for trial maintenance. And every trip I make I will move a few rocks off the trail and into one of the many holes. After 7 years of living at this place my trail is much more drivable and no more mud holes or water crossings...The beavers wont build that dam any higher as they don't want to flood out their lodge...You can build that area up, but its up to you how you want to accomplish that....I would rent a skid steer or small backhoe and have at her for a few weekends.... Best of luck, thanks for the video....

I go into town twice a month usually sometime more....As kids we could take the train up and walk in 12kms but the trains stopped dropping people off at their stops (cabins on lakes along the tracks) years ago. It would cost 5.00 but the funny thing is the conductor never collected the money from us lol...back then 70-80's you could load canoes, atvs, building supplies or whatever on the train....

The beavers return with a win but again Russell returns to sabotage their dam. I was wondering if an electric bike would assist you in getting in and out to your car if you didn't have to go through the swampy areas? At least for the next month if you could rent one it might be easier on your body. I enjoyed seeing the underground creek. One way or another, I would fix that road. I would frame the area with the proper size tree parts... so many were knocked down with that storm months ago... after "framing" I would fill the framed area with chips from a wood chipper---- then I would add bags of dry cement.... and expect that to absorb the water..... just as people pour bags of dry cement down post holes ... the cement hardens ... just doesn't make sense to run the ATV on the "road" ...

A guy had a problem with Gophers eating the roots in his garden and he placed Juicy Fruit in the tunnels that they made. It worked and they died underground and did not require burial. If you were to make larger balls of double bubble and place them after draining the dam dam they would eat them and clog the intestines and they would die in their lairs.

Oh the visco in the front diff already burned up? I tore mine out before it went and replaced it with a mechanical torQ locker which makes it full 4-wheel drive instead of having to speed up and spin the wheels before they lock up, which makes it possible to creep through the mud and snow.

@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin The front-wheel drive on the ATV, it's usually the visco-clutch in the frontdiff that sooner or later wears/leaks out. I tore mine out and put in a Torq locker, machined gears that can move some when steering but otherwise lock-up the front wheels.
The Visco is basically a fan-clutch with goo inside it that gets warm and expands by friction when one frontwheel spinn and then locks the wheels up.
The Visco-clutch has seals to separate the goo from the oil and only lasts around 1000miles or so before breaking and leading to front diff rebuild..
The Torq locker was a bit expensive (500$ or so) but gives the machine real 4-wheel drive and eliminates the bad Visco-clutch design which costs more money in the long run.

I really liked this video. The creek and limestone were awesome. It is amazing what water can do. You should really buy a John Deere gator. You can have a windshield and enclose the interior. Then you could have heat and air conditioning. The bed of the gator has a push button dump feature (which we use to dump horse manure or brush). We use our gator every day for everything. Then you would have so much room for groceries or wood etc. If it rains or snows you could put a tarp over it while staying nice and dry in the enclosed cab. We put automatic on it for 1000.00. Total cost 16,000.00 for new. John Deere had the biggest dump bed and it has never really broken down. A little minor things you could fix. Anyway, Happy Halloween and as always beautiful scenery.

This lack of blood supply can cause fatigue, even when you're resting or being only slightly active. Everyone gets tired from time to time, but the fatigue that accompanies a heart condition like Afib is often described as: Constantly tired. Drained.

@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin yes, thank you. But we can't let the beavers win. How about when the ice melts, using a larger pipe where the old one is, and adding a vertical pipe in the pond, half the diameter, with holes in it on the dam side, and a float on top, with two anchors upstream attached to keep it in place.
Whew! Yes, a Rube Goldberg creation but imagine the videos of creating this weird thing.

Another great video, and the photo you chose is perfect.
I have a question? First of all, like you I am off 100% off grid. 24v system 2.4kw. Apart from the fact I have 2 dying 2v 423amp hr Raylite batteries the system, for the past 12 years has performed without a hiccup. The winter for me has never been an issue, hardly ever having to run the gererator. I check the power station daily and would run the generator if the battery voltage dropped below 80% fully charged. My inverter is an Out Back Power Systems and controller a Midnite Classic. Sorry for the rant here. As I tried to explain winter has never been a problem until now, The summer though is quite different. With all the sun shine and the batteries are fully charged the inverter boots into Auxillary. So I assume more power than I need. Back to my question? If you uprade your system as you have suggested, will you not have times when you have excess power and what do you do with the extra power. Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but you know this stuff so I thought, what the heck I'll ask Russell.
Final note. If you do shoot a deer, once across the pond you can harness the animal to Willow and June Bug, walk in front of them with a treat and they will follow and bring the beast up the hill.
Missed your Halloween live stream, lot going on here with the floods. Cheers mate.

    • @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin
      @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin  2 роки тому +1

Erich, sounds like a great system. I'm not sure what's going on with your inverter, but I can't think of a reason why it would do that. If your batteries are full, I would think you'd have more of an issue with your charge controller.
Yes I have more power than I need in the summer even now, but it's winter that's the problem. I've been trying to think of something to do with that excess power in the summer. Crypto maybe?
