Thanks, this was super helpful. Silly question probably, but can I ask how you got the main melody/sample into that midi? I'm really new and trying to learn

Of course! I’m using ableton live fyi. So I downloaded the song from UA-cam and dragged it into ableton’s session view.
Then click on the song in ableton and loop the part that you want by moving the loop markers ( I think they’re called that) also I looped the first 2 or 4 bars or something in this case. - this is if you want to loop the sample, if not just disregard this.
With this Midi controller (and I’m assuming most others that have the pads on it, if you drag a sample (another word for an audio file) into the session view (again, this is how it’s done in ableton), the pad will light up as seen in the video and when you press it the audio will play.
If you are using ableton and you press the pad and it flashes a few times before playing the audio, press control + 0 on windows or command + 0 on a Mac and when you press the pad the audio will play instantly
