In this video we start the G scale / Sci - Fi layout. And we discuss future plans for it. Hope you enjoy this quick video that starts our new journey in G scale model railroading.
Wow what a fantastic project. It will look so good around your basement walls. Your wife has a very impressive collection of films as well. Many thanks.
Both your train layout and your sci-fi layouts are excellent. I really like them and how they appear to be complex but when you follow along with you they are easier to understand and appear much simpler. I am Quite in awe of people that can take different items and put them together so that they resemble something fantastic. Thank you for your efforts. Love and Peace. Blessed Be. Doug.
Wow Jason you are a lucky man to be able to use all your basement for diorama. Hope my wife could understand my passion like yours. I am glad to see that sci fi layout is huge so we will have a lot of video to watch. Take care love your work.
Fun. I'm glad to see more people doing some Sci-fi model railroading. Years ago I did a Sci-fi layout in 1/32 scale. I chose 1/32 scale so I could use reworked plastic army as the people because I wanted thousands of them. I fit it all like puzzle pieces into a travel trailer. Mirrors made the scene appear larger inside the box than it actually was. Mine layout was more inspired by the comic book "The Incal" and the movies that followed it. Another thing that I used was the Monorail toy Rokenbok which I think is gone now but all over Ebay. It is very easy to make new track because it is battery powered and it can take a very close turn as well as use turnouts and even elevators for multiple levels.
I've always liked what you were doing both with the train layout and your sci fi diorama. But I'm really excited to see where your going with it all. Love it and thanks for being such an inspiration.
Great video - thanks for letting us into your personal space as well. I always love when folks take us on a little journey into their space. Keep up the great work man.
Ah finally someone who is going to build a si FI Model railroad. G scale is nice, lots of details, but i would choose ho tracks i e narrow gauge, that will give you better and wider curves and lot of inexspensive tracks and trains, that you probably anyway will completely rebuild. I am really looking forward to your new layout !
Thank you so much!!! I’m really excited about it. I chose O scale track because the figures are 1/18 scale (3.75 inches tall) and I thought the HO track would look to small. I need to build a small section with track to see how it’s going to look. Thanks for the comment, it helped to get me thinking about it.
Jason I blame this on you-I'm inspired I watched your video last night and then I went to Empire Toy Works site WOW!!! So I'm off to storage to dig out my Star Wars action figures and start one of these. Its got the creative juices flowing!! Can't wait to see the next post.
I love your Sci Fy builds, you’ve inspired me a lot. We’re moving house soon and I’m going to try and build a Sci Fy diorama in the garage, so i’m looking forward for more of your inspiration 😃
Absolutely fantastic, I love that basement, I don't know how you fit it all in your work schedule, I was thinking where your corner couch is wouldn't it be cool to have a replica of the games table from the Millennium Falcon. Just awesome and I will check out those other guys. As always thanks for sharing.
Truly amazing, beautiful work of colossal dimensions, when you run out of space it will be epic to see the fight to conquer new territories. (If you are not single, of course) Good luck with the project, I'm sure you will bring it to fruition.💪👏👏👏
Your wife has a very large movie collection. :O In such a large collection, there has to be my favourite movie "Shawshank redemption". (Also one of my favourite Books by Stephen King)
Jason , like the layout of what you have planed, a comment from me with out a question, I can almost hear you say now what! It is more of an observation than a question. You said you were thinking about another train on the top level but you also said you planed on homes and restaurants on the same level. That seems like a lot in the depth space you have. BTW if I were you I would build MRS. J another book shelf her growing hobby first. see ya next time.
Thank you so much Will!!! I’m undesired on that upper train. I may do some drawings first to see. I may do HO scale track on the upper level. Lots of possibilities! Thanks for watching!!!
@@JasonJensenTrains Thanks! I too was inspired by Empire Toy Works! I normally do props, costumes, and models, but quarantine has stranded me away from my home studio, so I’ve started using recyclables and trash from around my girlfriends place to build out dioramas. I decided to develop them into a modular set so I can eventually take them home and incorporate them into a permanent location.
@@JasonJensenTrains I’m actually halfway filming this build right now. I just posted part one of a model kit of a 1:12 scale coca-cola beverage cart like the ones they have at Galaxy’s Edge at the Disney theme parks. Cheers! Keep up the EXCELLENT work.
Jason the new layout sounds cool. I would love to see some concept art for the trains and diorama modules. Can I suggest for greeblies you get a 3D printer with your artistic talent you would be a natural for designing and printing futuristic parts for the dioramas. Looking forward to the progress on the layout.
a crazy idea, very steampunk, how about a rocket railroad Ferry. Keep the Ferry on a dolly so you can move it from one point to another, load it with your freightcars so the can fly away to another planet.
It’s gonna be awesome! It’s looking good now! I checked out Empire Toy and now I now get what you’re gonna do! Will you put in a the color changing lights? A bar looks like a fun thing to do in it. I like Barbie scale and HO scale. Is G scale like 1/24? It’s nice you have that much room to work in. Of course I like when you make HO scale but I love learning the new techniques you show in any scale! Thanks for sharing! 👍🏼 😊
Thank you so much Judy!!! Yes, I will be putting in the lights that change color. The possibilities are endless with this project.Thank you so much for always watching, I really appreciate it!!!
Hoi hoi. Will you be making your own sci fi g-scale train? If you are, would you make that into a video as well? I would love to see that. You’re an amazing painter, I’m trying to mimic your painting but i’m nowhere near there. Your videos are an inspiration to me. I’m looking forward to your future projects. How are the sci fi builds coming as well? Keep them coming!
What scale figures & ships are you going to use for this? Haven't finished watching this yet, but the last Sci-Fi diorama you did was with 4" figures, but I have no idea what scale that is (in either RR gauges, or mm's). Also, since you're starting with O-scale tracks, do you print 3D skins or shells for the G-scale cars?
It is all 1/18 scale. Most of the figures are 3.75 inches and yes some are 4 inches. I do not do any 3D printing, every thing will be kitbashed. Thanks for watching!!!
Hi Jason, Im a big 1/35 model builder. Trumpeter is now making 1/35 train model cars and engines. All plastic so not functional. Not being a train person I "think" One gauge is a similar scale for 1/35. Do you have any experience or information you can pass on? Cheers, great videos

Why not use a drop down movie screen and a projector, that way you’ll have more space for your diorama! Hang the screen 2ft off the wall... 😉✌🏻
Thanks for the suggestion. I may really consider that.
