No-one's talking about it, but the score dynamically boosts this moment so much. How the tempo slows and hushes and darkens as Kusanagi explains what he wants, almost to a stop, so the audience expect him to say something sad and real (as he did in the sub)...then the punchline, followed by a drum roll as Yusaku smiles and the horns & strings breaking back in when he playfully admits, "no, I don't..", taking off upward as they continue their argument. Idk whether this music was the original score for the scene in the sub, but it's an oddly perfect fit for the dub.
I feel like the dub of this show just has so much more heart. I dunno, it’s the small moments like this that just feel so normal, like natural interactions that you’d have with your friends
Plus 4KMedia were more lenient with acknowledging death is still a thing in a non explicit manner this go around. Hell, unlike the sub, Revolver states that Windy straight up murdered his partner.

So many sub lovers hate this scene, saying that it’s stupid. I’m convinced those people have never had a real friendship like these two. Sometimes you and your bud just relieve tension like this. You know what’s being unsaid, but you make a stupid joke so you’re both laughing and can ignore the pain for just that little bit of time. They know what is likely to/going to happen. This is just their way of saying “I love you” to make it clear that there are no hard feelings between them. I’m speaking platonically before anyone gets on me about that. I’m just saying that best friends have their own language, so to speak. In jokes that hold so much meaning to them that outsiders could never understand. This is one of those moments. To us it sounds silly, but to them it has so much more weight to it.
