To be honest I still feel like there is an appeal to the direction that they went in. It really shows the impact that Yusei had on the future timeline and it kind of feels like a very different take on the Chosen One trope that Yu-Gi-Oh seems to love so much.
It's still kind of weird for them to tease it so much and then completely change it at the end tho. I would have loved for him to be the Future Yusei.

I'm with you. By defeating himself, Yusei would prove that the future is/can be what you make it, with limitless possibilities. It would also make Quasar's summon more epic, since Z-one wouldn't remember it instead of having no historical records, which seems less emotive.

@@redtigergaming1467 not really. have you seen Agents of SHIELD ? they used at least 4 different types of time travel (most prominent closed time loop in season 5) and that could have been a cool moment.
Z-ONE claiming they are in a closed loop. just like it happened to Yusei, Z-ONE appeared in the Z-ONE we know's timeline. Z-ONE (back then as Yusei) defeated him, but everything Z-ONE predicted happening.
A broken Yusei became Z-ONE and traveled back in time willing to break the time loop this time. But this playing out constantly across timeloops. that the current Z-ONE we are watching is Z-ONE number 27 or 52 or x number.
Especially if at one point "Z-ONE" (future Yusei) describes perfectly the card Yusei drew, the hand he currenlty has, the remaining cards he has in his deck, and the strategy he is planning to use almost like if he had read his mind.
especially if Z-ONE says that was what happened to him in the version of the timeloop where he was Yusei.
Which would make it more of a shocker if the summoning of Shooting Quasar Dragon had made Z-ONE realize "Yusei broke the timeloop and is changing fate" (as he as Yusei never summoned Shooting Quasar Dragon).

I actually like that they didn't go with the final villain being a currupt future version of the hero trope. I mean the whole "I'm future you but evil" trope is pretty tired if you ask me, so I was actually fine with Z-ONE not technically being Yusei. If anything I found it even more disturbing seeing him transform is body to appear like Yusei. Also, I like how not even the "the legend" of Yusei Fudo was enough to save the world in Z-ONE's future, which hits our Yusei's confidence that much harder in that final duel.

    • @Hunter-pt4zy
      @Hunter-pt4zy 3 роки тому +29

I fully agree. With how they set up the timeline in that show, it's just impossible for Yusei to be Z-ONE. Too much time will have passed by the point in time that they get everything set up, even if he's surviving off of super future technology, you can't keep the human body alive much longer past the point it was to expire. So having someone who decided to sacrifice himself to become a hero to guide the people only to fail and realize that the only way to stop this tragedy was to go backwards in time was a lot better than "hey, I know the future, the things that happen and I'm evil now, because reasons! Yusei, I am what you will become! So I have come back in time to let you see that!" kind of plot.

    For me it goes:
    6. Judai Vs Darkness. I honestly wasn't a fan of the duel, and Darkness himself. He looked menacing and dangerous but just never really meet my expectations.
    5. Zarc Vs Lancers. I actually liked Zarc, well what we know of him. I thought he was cool, but he was handled poorly just like everything else in that arc. The duel itself was handled poorly too. I enjoyed watching the beatdown he was giving but it was not really as good as it could be.
    4. Yusei Vs Zone: I am not a fan of 5Ds like most so I'm not crazy about this final duel either. Quasar was pretty cool, but that's all that really hit me.
    3. Yugi Vs Bakura. It was a great moment for Yugi, and it didn't bother me how they kind of sidelined it because it wasn't the main attraction of the arc. Plus, it kind of added tension.
    2. Playmaker Vs Ai. Basically everything you said. Except, I kind of figured Yusaku would win. It's usually how these animes go. XD
    1. Yuma/Shark Vs Don Thousand
This was duel that truly had me in the edge of my seat. It was honestly amazing and I loved Don Thousand as a villain. He played EVERYONE, both his ally's which turned to be his pawns and his enemies. Don Thousand to me is the coolest YGO Villain, along with Dartz.

Z-ARC's big battle being #6 is perfectly understandable. This whole duel was executed poorly, the last few turns of the duel were HORRIBLY rushed, and in the end, like you said, Dylan, he lost to the SAME EXACT CARDS he was supposed to beat this time. You want to talk anti-climatic? That ending is literally the apex of anti-climatic. The fact that 9 of the 11 people Zarc faced started at just 2000 LP (because of the stupid Intrusion Penalty) while he had 6000+ for most of the duel was really unfair, and worse, none of them did anything significant until Reiji started laying into him -- but even HE went down in 1 turn! Like, Sawatari actually had it right from the get-go, but even he didn't get to shine, which made this duel still worse. I think many people can sympathize with this.
Judai vs. Darkness at #5? Okay, sure. I can see why that would be the case. Like, aside from all the stuff Dylan mentioned, all you really needed to do was give Judai a Jinzo and the bulk of Darkness's control strategy would be gone forever. He'd have to bring out Darkness Neosphere to deal with it since his traps would be null and void...
Yugi vs. Bakura is actually a great test for the innocent little Yugi we've all come to know and love, and the fact that it literally came down to a Heart of the Cards moment with the final topdeck just made Gandora's appearance all the more awesome. (Side note: Kenichi Hara, the star animator for Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's, also animated the episode in which Gandora appeared, and he did quite the good job of it.)
It was kinda tough seeing Yusei vs. Z-one at #3, especially since it didn't seem like any of Yusei's efforts in Synchro spamming were of use until he whipped out Shooting Quasar Dragon. Z-one literally nullified EVERYTHING Yusei did in the duel up until that point, but seeing Yusei strike back with his friends' dragons as one entity was quite satisfying, and well worth the wait. It also had a bit of a reference to Gurren Lagann (Anti-Spiral vs. a multiversal scale Giga Drill Breaker) behind it, which was cool.
Don Thousand at #2 is well justified. The fact that Mizael faced him first and didn't see him do shit, yet still got YEETed by his own cards, was a bit hilarious and also makes for one of the biggest WTF moments in Yu-Gi-Oh anime duel history. It wasn't until Yuma tried to summon Utopia on turn 2 of the big duel with D.T. that he and Nasch finally got some info as to how D.T. was able to just rewrite Mizael's card that would have forced a tie into something that made him commit suicide, and even then they STILL were not guaranteed to win. Why? Because from the moment Don Thousand started actually making use of his turns, he was breathing down the heroes' necks with the threat of lethal damage on EVERY TURN! That whole duel was a mighty fine way to solidify Don Thousand's power as an actual god.
Now, Ai vs. Playmaker as the Grand Battle (yes, I said GRAND BATTLE, because it's that damn good) of Yu-Gi-Oh VRAINS was just amazing to see. Poor Ai did not deserve to go through any of the heartache and misery he experienced over losing his entire Ignis family at Bohman's final defeat. Every time he dueled up to that point, he let bits and pieces of that misery slip out here and there, but when it finally came time to face his former partner (who would never have survived up to that point if not for Ai's own help), he was finally free to let it all out. The fact that both Bohman _and_ Lightning got into his head didn't help things at all, and the moment he whipped out The Arrival Cyberse @Ignister was one of the most emotional summons ever. And the last turn... HOLY SHIT that brought me to tears, as did the ending. Being forced to kill a beloved partner just to save the world and bring an end to the story is a choice no one should ever have to make, and is also a straight-up reference to Elfen Lied (which had an inherently sad ending as well). Great pick for the #1 spot, Dylan.

4-AI vs Playmaker; emotional payoff but, as you said in a previous video, there was no love for Vrains, so the aftereffects of it fall flaat to me.
3-Don Thoousand vs Yuma and Shark; honestly just because the sheer numpers (badabum tss) trown in this duel
2-Yami Bakura vs Yugi: Before DSOD this was one of the best character moments for little Yugi.
1-Z-One vs Yusei, although I do agree that Z-One is not tthe best boss (that title goes to AI), the duel is just broke from the beggining. Each time I seee it I find myself saying the chants and the attaks. Is perfectly executed IMHO

One thing about the zone fight that disappoints me, the final ed, future colors (one of my favorite yugioh endings ever) had a scene where Yusei and Aki were together looking up at a monster shrouded in light, and the silhouette looked like a card called Stardust Sifr Divine Dragon, which is the manga equivalent of Quasar, so that kinda made me hopeful zone would pull that out

    • @ianr.navahuber2195
      @ianr.navahuber2195 4 роки тому +7

imagine if that ending had actually been canon.... but in Z-ONE's timeline (in the case he had really been future Yusei). that that (Stardust Sifr Dvine Dragon) is the monster HE used to beat the Z-ONE in his version of the time loop. And that accroding to that other Z-ONE, that is how the duel played out over and over across many continous time loops.
while also having a flashback to his version of AKi and the rest of 5D's team.
So when Yusei summoned Shooting Quasar Dragon, it was at that moment where Z-ONE realized this Yusei finally broke the time loop and was truly changing fate

    1. Ai: Most emotional battle. solid build up throughout the whole series.
    2. Darkness: I freaking loved the darkness archetype and eventhough the character was rushed, the whole duel had by far the best atmosphere. Darkness is a god in that world and felt like THE ultimate threat.
    3. Bakura: This duel is one of the few times, where yu-gi is kind of a badass (when he summons gandora). Bakuras deck was really interesting and I love Yami-Bakuras cruel character. Second best atmosphere
    4. Zone: A nice duel, but I'm not that big of a fan of timelords and Illiaster always felt like a minor problem compared to the dark signers.
    5. Don: Completely over the top. This duel is like bad fan fiction.

    In my view:
    0. Yuma vs Nash. (I understand why Don Thousand is seen as the final boss, being the mastermind behind the scenes, but Nash's parallel to Yuma was impressive and this is just one of the best duels of Zexal)
    1. Yusei vs Z-ONE (This duel is just epic, with many twists and turns and a lot of meaning to it.)
    2. Playmaker vs Ai (Another great duel between parallels, like Yuma and Nash. The monsters and effects are really cool, but some of the scripting annoys me)
    3. Yuma and Nash vs Don Thousand (great 'invincible final boss' feel, extremely cool deck combinations, but Don 1000 doesn't feel like much of a character)
    4. Zarc vs Lancers (Epic duel, bad ending, enough said)
    5. Yugi vs Yami Bakura (Great character development, not really 'boss'-like. Mill is a bit annoying as a strategy)

    1. VS Ai. Really emotional, Ai had a great reason to do what he needed to do, and even though we didn't get our boi original Firewall Dragon, the duel was exciting. I want to re-watch Vrains just to be invested on the series overall.
    2. VS Z-One. Yes, I was one of the people who would have preferred Yusei being Z-One, but watching this again, changed my perspective. I also like this idea of someone else becoming one of the heroic known symbols of the world and still failed to do so. This failure did trigger Z-One to desperately do as much as he can, along with 3 others, to save the world one way or another. I've grown to accept this idea, as I see both ideas valid of what 5D's wanted to conclude on. This was my first, until I saw Vrains's ending.
    3. VS Bakura. The back and forth scenes between Yugi's duel and the pharaoh's battle against Zorc didn't distract me, as they're both combating against the same enemy. It's also satisfying to see Yugi complete this duel since being mostly at the side.
    4. VS Don Thousand. Sure, it is ridiculous to see this foe in a ridiculous series with ridiculous rules, that I'm not even sure if there are any more ways to make it ridiculous. Activating Traps from Deck? Zexal? Completely restructuring your Main Deck?
    5. VS Darkness. Pretty much a final villain that could have been built up better. At least the reason what would have happened if all 12 levels of different monsters were fused.
    6. VS Zarc. I would have liked to see original Zarc, and then slowly mutate into this demon guy. I also, as you suggested, would have liked if all opposers of Zarc use each other's cards to strengthen their comradery. I wish Arc-V didn't trip so much in the 2nd half.

I understand what they were doing with Zarc but it felt like things got rushed and just fell through. Like when you think about it, Zarc himself has a lot of neat references to GX that really could have been expanded more. He was someone people really liked who went bad, his main archtype is "Supreme King" and he turns into a human dragon monster. He is basically an amalgamation of Judai and Yubel, but they never went anywhere with it. So what would have been neat for his battle is if after fusing his parts he basically turns into the Supreme King but with Yuya wearing the armor with yellow eyes. He would start calm and dark and one by one OTK each person with his individual dragons. Finally when Reiji comes in, he actually is able to fight back which angers Zarc so he then using Super Polymerization to fuse his dragons and himself which corrupts him and turns him into the dragon form. Finally once Ray joins, she begins playing a bunch of cards that have seeming no purpose and just stalling. After a couple turns, her cards suddenly start going off and she adds En Flowers from the graveyard and plays it. Zarc negates and destroys it again but Ray does the combo again and adds it again. Zarc finally realized she has him trapped because she created an infinite loop of effects that lets her bring them back as many times as she wants. Zarc burns away all his cards and all his life points trying to negate them over and over again but in the end En Flowers goes off and ends the duel. In the end, she would make a comment about how if he had simply accepted defeat for once he might have survived the En cards but in trying to fight back, he destroyed himself and lost everything.

My only complaint is that I don't even consider Bakura v Yugi to be a final boss duel. Maybe it was just me, but Atem and Yugi seemed destined to duel each other once Atem was established as a separate character and not a split personality. Thematically, Atem being Yugi's final boss is perfect. Yugi has to overcome his dependency on Atem, who is the King of Games, has all three Egyptian Gods, and can draw whatever card he needs from his deck at will.

I'm one of those who genuinely likes the Z-ARC duel. It wasn't perfect like most, Z-ARC's characterisation could be better developed, the bracelet girls could've had some action, a bit predictable, Leo could've done so much more but it had great moments; Shingo nearly beating Z-ARC, Noh Gil Boh's animation of EP 138, Reiji naturally, music, summoning of Supreme King Dragon Z-ARC, showed lots of action between users of each summon methods, Ray got some decent action at the end with the En cards and the final moments with Yuya and Z-ARC was good etc. Moments like that is what makes it fun to watch.

Shingo trying to oust Z-ARC was actually the best part of the duel IMO. The rest, aside from Reiji laying into Z-ARC a few turns later, was really a convoluted mess of bullshit that ended up being rushed at the end.
Plus, literally EVERYONE aside from Edo and Sora got nerfed heavily by the goddamn Intrusion Penalty while Z-ARC had 6000+ LP for most of the duel, that in addition to Z-ARC's arsenal of bullshit summons and effects.
That and Z-ARC even said he created Pendulum to get revenge on Ray and her "En-" cards that kicked his ass once. Well guess what? He lost to those exact same cards, AGAIN. And as for Ray "getting some action", well guess what? She didn't even get her original body back, which was stupid. That and it took SMILES, RUSHED WRITING, and PLOT ARMOR OUT THE ASS to beat Zarc.
Sorry bud, but to say this duel was "not perfect" is the understatement to end all understatements.

If I could change one of these, it would be Zarc. I would extend each duel by another episode or two, and as each individual enters, they start remembering their alternate self, and later, when they're about to lose, they find cards they didn't have in their decks before. Those cards being ones from their other self like Kite drawing Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon and the spirit of Mizael giving him Tachyon Dragon, then the duelist evolve even further, combining their power into something even larger, like Kite summoning a Rank 12 or higher monster using all three Neo Galaxy-Eyes Dragons, or Jack summoning Red Super Nova Dragon or another powerful dragon monster. I would still have Zarc defeat each one to show just how powerful he is, but he would have to work harder to do it, rather than OTKing everyone. To defeat him, those four cards wouldn't beat him, they would summon doors. Through those doors would be the previous protagonists, and they would put everything they had into defeating Zarc. As they fought, other characters from each Era that weren't in Arc-V would appear for a turn, assist however they could, and die to Zarc. The four protagonists would duel Zarc until they were on the edge of defeat, but as Zarc laughed at their efforts having gone to waist, he would reach for a card only to discover none left in his deck.
Zarc gets angry, but before he destroys anything, he freezes. In his soul, the four that he split into have challenged him. As the duel goes on, the four use each other's dragons to summon more powerful versions of their own, and in the end, Yuya defeats Zarc and regains control of his body.
This would probably have to be another season entirely, but I think it would have been awesome.

    • @rickywalters7717
      @rickywalters7717 2 роки тому +1

Nostalgia rushes are cool and all, but no thanks; I would like to instead not change anything about the Duel itself, but rather look inside. Remember how in the arc after ZARC, its shown there is good in him yet? (Or in the dubbed version, that he didnt want Ray to perform the first Dimension Split?) I want there to be an inner Duel; Z-ARC VS Yuya, or the Yu-Boys VS Z-ARC, or it could even be Z-ARC and the Yu-boys VS Yuya. Regardless of which, one thing remains consistent: Z-Arc would have his Original Dimension appearance, Deck and temperament, whatever it may have been; Same goes for Yuya, he'd have his Performapals, his Magician duo as well. Though not his Odd-Eyes; Z-Arc possesses that card now. No Pendulum cards. At the end, of course Yuya actually wins, giving Ray the chance to use her Natural Energy cards.
Z-Arc talks on his own, although his actions are no longer his to make; His body gained a mind of its own, yearning for brutal Duels.
The Yu-boys, if they appear, are still Awakened.
And im starting to run out of ideas-
Thoughts and opinions, if i may ask?

The lancers outside of one mention of yuto are about yuya and no one else which really sucks for the weight we’re supposed to have seeing the other dragons but with playmaker and Ai we’ve seen their relationship throughout the whole series which is what makes the link six and access code talker so meaningful. You feel how close their bond has come while in arc-v it’s bogged down by being all about yuya(kind of symbolic of the second half of the show as a whole of you think about it). If I were to rank them, I would rank them as final bosses.
    6. Vs Nightmare- By far the must underwhelming final boss fight in all yugioh, even God Neos summon was generic.
    5. Vs Yami Bakura - Similar to nightmare, although this duel we got little Yugi in the spotlight. Because of Yugi lack of duel screen, Bakura duel actually felt like final boss and tough opponent to Yugi considering Bakura true identity and how it was always Yami Yugi who dealt with each season bosses.
    4. Vs AI - AI never felt like a threat specially how in episodes before he seems to be teasing Yusaku. Being an AI and known the best the strongest one, is easier to think that AI already knew the duel outcome and he also knew Playmakers card and combo very well. Felt almost impossible for Yusaku to win.
    3. Vs Don Thousand - Broken duel with broken effect which both abuses with their shiny draw. Compared to other duel you didn’t felt that level of threat as our Protagonist can also pull these deux machina as well. What makes me a better final bosses was the constant back and forth with their broken effect.
    2. Vs Zarc - Truly The Final Boss. Almost felt like a tag team raid battle to take down an big foe. This imo was one of the best final bosses and Zarc was truly undefeated, even Ray failed to OHK him which who know what Zarc would have in store thanks to Pendulum. If it wasn’t for Yuya, Zarc wouldn’t be defeated.
    1. Z-One - 1v1 duel with broken effect. Similar to Don Thousand, however here Yusei cannot take advantage of such mechanic from Zexal. Almost felt as Z-one always had Yusei, even Yusei final boss monster Quasar Dragon wasn’t his key card to finish off Z-one it was his big play to turn the duel around his favor and the duel still continue which unlike other Series such monster would be the one to end it.

Z-one has received a fair bit of appreciation as a Final Boss due to the next two following ones (the much-disliked Don Thousand and the controversial Zarc) being seen as a step down (and the previous one, Nightshroud/Darkness being regarded as a heavy case of an Anti-Climax final Boss). His Timelord deck also plays significantly into this, as the deck is playable in real life both physically and competitively

    4th Don Thousand
    Tied for 5th place
Zarc and Nightmare(I feel bad putting gx here because I actually liked the emotional side of things and how Darkness was effecting everyone unfortunately I didn't really think his dueling skills were anything to really worry about. Also seeing what Z-arc was actually capable of was a fun even though the opponents he faced was also kinda a boring playstyle to watch or at least in those duels against Z-arc which I felt the same towards Darkness unfortunately maybe if Darkness actually won and had to be rematched or something or make it seem and feel like he was actually I would change my opinion about)

I'm pretty happy with the points you made. I'm a huge Yugioh anime fan but I'll admit I have never watched Vrains so I'll leave it out of my ranking. My list would be:
    5. ZARC v Everyone - Yes it was cool in concept but like you said the execution was poor with all these knwn characters getting wiped. (ZARC should have gotten his own form and it should have been Yuya teaming with Yugi, Jaden, Yusei, and Yuma lol)
    4. Yugi v Yami Bakura - I was never a big fan of Bakura being the final villain of the show. Even though we see him throughout I never saw him as a big deal until they just made him one. I feel Dartz was the best villain duel.
    3. Yusei v Z-ONE - Again not a huge fan of the villain, I was dissapointed he wasn't future Yusei. His concept was cool but honestly I thought the best duel fo that last arc was Aporia v Leo, Luna & Jack. But the best villain duel would go to Yusei v Roman. I think Roman was cool with his Destiny talk.
    2. Jaden v Darkness - I do believe it was too short but regardless I felt Darkness as an actual scary villain. He does wipe out the entire school and it's down to Jaden alone to face him. Yubel and the Supreme King had better build ups but I enjoy the spooky duel.
    1. Don Thousand v Yuma and Shark (with Kite) - Call me crazy but this might actually be my all-time favorite duel form any Yu-Gi-Oh show. Don thousand is a villain throughout, he's personality and look is designed well and his deck is awesome. Numeronia has 10,000 ATK and DEF points, after an attack it destroys all other monsters, and for an overlay unit it pulls those monsters on the user's side. It may be a little over the top but it had the greatest stakes not one but 3 worlds at risk plus you had the 3 main characters combining their monsters rather than just yuma getting the win. It was epic.

WHO BOY... this was interesting and a lot of fun.
In my opinion I loved these duels. All of them was fun, however if you start to ranking these duels, you find out really fast that there are a big canyon between them. A big gap that can show how different these duels are.
6: Zarc vs. The Lancers: Everything you said about this duel is the same that I can say about it. In my opinion it would be much better if they would did this: In the outside world there is the duel we all know and in the inside of Zarc we can see a duel between Zarc and Yuya to who control the body.
5: Bakura vs Yugi: Nothing to say here... The same you said.
4: Yuma & Shark vs Thousand: It was intense. As you said the numbers were hit the ceiling and even beyond It was THE BOSS DUEL. The only thing that I had to place this at number four is because... well... Im not the fan of Zexal and the final Shark vs Yuma was Better (Anyway why do I hear Zexal opening blasting outside of my door?)
3: Judai vs Darkness: Incredeble scenes like the Divine Neos and Neos Wiseman summonings, The manifestations of the agony of Judai's friends also Darkness's deck is one, if not the most interesting deck I have ever seen I don't know why but I really like this duel. But I have to agree with you that the build up of the character was really rushed.
2: Zone vs Yusei: It was incredeble. The whole symbol with the bonds was incredeble. The summoning of Quasar is still gives me shivers. However im also not the fan of Zone. In my opinion it would be better if Zone were the real Yusei from the future. 5ds is my childhood along side with Soul Eater but the Duel between Yusei and Jack is much better.
1: Ai vs Yusaku: I can totally agree with everything you said about it. I just want to say another thing. The main reason why is this duel is so heart breaking is because this was the first Boss duel were the two duelist know each other for a long-long time. It's wasn't like a Judai vs Darkness where they dueled because "You are a bad guy and I must win" It was a friend vs friend duel which is much more emotionful than a duel between a school kid and the God of Death. Also Ai wasn't like his old self. If you see someone die, who was really close to you, can change your whole persona. The fully comedy based character, who supported everything is nearly gone and he become a faded vessel of his former self. And that is why I LOVE this duel.
Great video as always, but sorry I have some milk in the fridge to drink. Keep up the good work from Hungary!
Oh yes and Zexal world is coming to duel links :)

I can't rank them because honestly I can't remember all the boss duels that well but I'll give my thoughts based on what I can remember.
Yami vs Bakura: I remember liking this one a lot because we finally got to see Yugi partake in a serious duel without Atem. I also really remember liking silent magician and silent swordsman although I do feel like the actual boss duel for this series is Yami vs Zorc in the Egyptian World. (I guess that wouldn't really be considered a duel)
Jaden vs Darkness: This one was really forgettable. I seriously don't remember this duel at all.
Yusei vs Z-One: I just remember thinking about how overpowered Z-One's cards were. Then I just spent some time thinking about how Lotten could OTK Z-One instantly. I actually like how Z-One was just some random guy from the future though. It's just really funny and interesting that the final villain of 5Ds was just some guy in the future. We don't know his name or anything else about his identity.
Yuma and Shark vs Don Thousand: I remember liking this one a lot cause the show made me hate Don Thousan because of what he did to the Barian Emperors. Seeing him getting beat was very satisfying.
Zarc vs 10 people: Again I just kept thinking about how overpowered Zarc was. I thought villains in the past were OP but this guy was insane. (But then again Lotten may have been able to OTK this guy so...) I didn't really like the duel though because of what you said (missed opportunities with setting cards for others and predictability) Most duels are predicatble but I feel like they couldve done a lot more with this setup of 10 duelists vs Zarc.
Yusaku vs AI: This one was pretty good. The dueling action wasn't outstanding or anything but the end was very emotional. AI initially started out as a character many people hated and then by the end everyone was crying over him

Zarc was cool if we got him a better ending. Him blasting all the heroes over and over again was amazing but ending ruined it.
I don't know much for zexal on t 1000 bur design is nice.
Zone I actually liked more getting older being a fan who wanted to bring happiness to the world like yusie did but fail as he is a fake and even losing his friends was so heartbreaking. Here are my thoughts on this topic:
Zarc vs the Lancers: The most FAILED Boss duel out there, in my opinion. There was barely any build-up to it, as it wasn't til the Fusion dimension that we learned his name and why he's so important. Plus they just used Yuya's looks with some dragon features, instead of the real Zarc for it. Then his deck was just a few cards that were made OP for the sake of the plot, just retooling the main four dragons and calling it a day. I agree with how the duelists should have used the graveyard more and that some of the duels were just one turn finishers. But yeah, this duel just sucks and belongs at the bottom.
Judai vs Darkness & Don Thousand vs Yuma/Shark: I can't really say much about these duels as I haven't watch them respectfully.
Yugi vs Bakura: I full on agree with you on this one.
Z-One vs Yusei: I don't have as much as to say about this duel as I really liked it.
Playmaker vs Ai: While it had a somewhat predictable outcome, this was one of the few duels from Vrains that I can say that I really liked.

Zarc will always be the biggest missed opportunity for me. I genuinely loved the concept behind what they were trying to do with Zarc (driven insane by the ever-demanding crowd as a metaphor for the cycle of bullying), but the execution is just... ugh, its just painful. The writing for Arc-V plummeted off a cliff after the Synchro Dimension (and even there was struggling in a few spots there). That said, that show over-scoped hard, and not only would Synchro and Xyz dimensions need to be re-paced (Synchro being faster and shorter, Xyz being a bit longer and having Yuya lose to Aster once is needed), but the post Zarc arc needed a tiny bit more time to flesh out Zarc's regret and the Dragons' fear. I could do a whole write-up on what I would change while keeping the basic plot points the same, and this duel is certainly one of them. Zarc needed to take several major hits from the protagonists, compounding from each duel previously, even if he found a way to get back up and get the obnoxious defense he has in the end.
Sigh... is it obvious how much I wanted to love Arc-V and Zarc as a character?

    Great duel. My list is
    6. Little Yugi vs Yami Bakura. The duel was meh compared to these other ones, this was the duel that gave little Yugi development, and it happened way too late for me, this duel was fine, I don't hate it, but it's far from my favourite
    5. Zone vs Yusei. Did not care for this one either, I think the duel was cool, but I felt no emotion behind it. I knew Yusei was going to win from the start, and while I liked the final couple of plays, this duel is too overrated for me to enjoy it.
    4. Don thousand vs Yuma and Nash. I liked this duel a lot, the action was pretty good and the numbers made my draw job, but take away the coolness from it, for me, just like the last 2, this duel was just good.
    3. Zarc vs the Lancers. I loved this duel for it's OPness aspect than the last 3, Zarc is one of my favourite villains because of his concept, his deck and his opness. Heck the dub version made me laugh at his voice, but I of course watched the sub first. I think Zarc is the strongest character in the franchise and also the duel's concept is awesome as well
    2. The next 2 are the only ones that affected my emotionally and this one is Jaden vs Darkness. I'm not gonna deny I'm gx bias but this duel was amazing. There was no stupidly overpowered cards from Darkness, Jaden received barely any help. There was no cards given to him, no one working alongside him, he was alone besides for Yubel, and even during the duel Yubel said he was on his own when he left. Jaden was the only one left and he stood up, took down Darkness and left his mark as one of the greatest duelists and heroes in yugioh history.
    1. Ai vs Yusaku, literally all the reasons you listed. Ai is my favourite villain and I love his deck. This duel really tugged at my heart strings

So I never saw the Don Thousand Duel, cause I'm still only like 30 episodes into Zexal (Kinda stopped because Crunchyroll only has the dub, and the first Gimmick Puppet Duel just looked so cut up that I wasn't interested in watching anymore)
    5) Nightshroud/Darkness. I never cared much for Nightshroud as a character, and while he didn't come from nowhere, he never felt important. I honestly think if it were just Trueman, I might have liked it more. The Duel itself is fine, has some cool moments like Wiseman, but then Divine Neos just wasn't as interesting as a concept. Also, because Neos Wiseman wasn't the final payoff, it then makes it feel really weird that they didn't have Yubel actually communicating with Jaden, or have him use the card.
4)Z-arc. I don't feel like he comes too far out of nowhere to not be an enjoyable character, since his presence has been felt throughout with the First Pendulum to any Awakening, to even just Yuya, Yuto, Yugo, and Yuri's character. I like seeing so many characters coming in to help save the day, but I wish they had better benefits to give to new characters instead of just their monsters being in the Graveyard for the En cards to work in the end. But I thought the progression was better for how the duel was structured, with how Sora and Phoenix lose just as Z-arc is summoned, Kite and Kurosaki lose because they didn't realize that Action Cards couldn't help them, Gongenzaka and Jack are able to cause actual LP damage to Z-arc, then Crow and Sawatari have an actual win moment stopped just short, and then Reiji is able to fight him consistently. Leo being beaten immediately is great, but I do think they could have done more with Layra and Ray's connection beforehand and had them do more than just Leo's plan but it works.
    3) Yami Bakura. So the manga gave me more of an appreciation for this duel if only because it characterizes Bakura better than the original anime, especially his intro. I really liked sing Yugi with his own deck, and the Silent Cards are a great Archetype for him and what the series has been doing with him throughout. Bakura's lock combo was really interesting, even if very not possible in the actual card game. And then Yugi's use of Gandora as such a huge detachment to his and Atem's decks that it made his growth really nice to see. The points out of its favor is that Yami Bakura and Yugi don't really have much of an actual rivalry or dynamic, so while satisfying, not as invested in them together. Even in the Manga, they have like 2 real interactions.
    2) Honestly, these two have flipped probably like 3 times while writing the rest of this comment. But Ai. It has a great setup, a lot of classic cards coming in from throughout Vrains between the two's setup. Sadly no OG Firewall Dragon, which is upsetting, but I digress. I did like Playmaker coming in with Borreload Furious Dragon to play with Ai's expectations and then using it to remove Judgement Arrows was a nice tie into to Revolver vs Lightning. And the final move being just Decode Talker vs Dark Templar makes it a very sobering final turn among all the high link monsters, and over 10000 attack point Arrival. And it being Ai's own "overconfidence" to end it that turn with Tai Strike that lets Playmaker win, and him saying "I thought this might happen, but had to check. Even this result is nice."
    1) Z-one. I honestly never cared for the "Z-one is future Yusei" idea and honestly, I think "Z-one removing his individuality for the sake of the future and that still failing" just makes his character way more tragic. Yusei is a good enough character that seeing his future self pessimistic just doesn't make it interesting to me. Also, I think it's a bit splitting hairs with people's perspective of how Yusei was in the future a couple hundred years after his original timeline. The three options were, timetravel to pluck him out of the past, necromancy, or what they did with someone having their personality overwritten as Yusei's. And it's not like Z-one not being the physical Yusei really detracted that much from his role in the future, cause he was still able to achieve Clear Mine, and presumably Top Clear Mind. And I just really liked how the Timelords played, with resetting the battlefield constantly, but Yusei still holding on because of the bonds with his friends. Still think the misplay at the beginning where he didn't use Black-winged Dragon to stop Lazion's effect was weird, since it felt like that would have made Aporia's duel mean more, like Yusei is learning the actual counters to the Timelords, but eh, it didn't matter much. The introduction of Shooting Quasar Dragon was great, and then, as a polar opposite to Z-one's summoning of even stronger cards, Yusei went backwards to Shooting Star Dragon, then the original Stardust Dragon to finish the duel. Also, this one's environment for the Turbo Duel in the Sky with ArK Cradle and Neo Domino City as the backdrop was so well done. I know the 3D effects maybe weren't the best, but I loved them. I also just really like the announcer, so having him commentating this final duel was nice.

Judai vs Darkness was alright, I liked Darkness's design, and I enjoyed seeing Neos Wiseman and Divine Neos, but it was also kinda lacking.
Zarc vs the Lancers was super dumb but I also like Zarc, the ending thoughwas just... well you know my feelings on Arc-V, my personal wish is that it was the 4 bracelet girls vs Zarc and they beat him for like obvious reasons l.
I really like the Zone duel, it looked super dumb happening in the sky I loved that, it was one of the aesthetics I like with the night time city back drop, it had some tension, I HECKIN LOVED SHOOTING QUASAR DRAGON AND THE FINAL ATTACK SEQUENCE, and they used the music used when Lua became a signer I loved that, also a tome traveller using a time lord deck? That's just one big Doctor who reference.
Ah Yusaku vs Ai... remembering it made me cry

Wish there were more chances to give Arc V positive lite. Why not try lists for top 10 disappointments/missed opportunities/unanswered questions of DM, GX, 5DS and Zexal. Even the best YGO shows have their disappointments. Arc V and Vrains aren't the black sheep of the franchise. I love all of them despite their flaws. Hopefully I'm not alone on this.

the duelists in the zarc duels being able to use previous players' existing cards and grave effects would've been so amazing ngl. we could've had d heroes being used to sync and dead synchros being revived for huge dick xyz summons, and grave effects galore

Z-One vs Yusei is one of the best (if not the best) duel in the entire Yugioh franchise. Bcs it made you constantly be on the edge of the seats where Yusei was struggling during each turn just to stay alive and barely defeated Z-one and his Time Emperors and it def felt like THE FINAL duel and it had soo much on the line. The whole world and the future basically. And then Yusei unites all of the synchro dragons and the bonds of his friends into Shooting Quasar dragon which represented the hope and bonds of all of his friends.

Judai: Needed Yubel to defeat the villain
Yusei: Needed delta accel to defeat the villain
Yuma: Needed numeron code to defeat the villain
Yuya: Didn't even defeat the villain
Yusaku: Needed the villain to activate the card to defeat him.
Yugi: Beats the villain with pure freaking skill
