    And "Sorrow no more" is promised in the Book of Revelation at the end of times, when the lion will lay down with the lamb and Christ rules for 1,000 years on earth.

      Yes correct. This song is about taking responsibility for ourselves and our actions. Not relying on some fictitious figure to which we can make excuses for our stupidity and cruelty. When we do this there will be sorrow no more. The only true Messiah who can rescue us is us from ourselves.

      @@keyratcane66 Sorry brother, but I beg to differ. If that were true, then the cross has no meaning and Cheist died in vain. Religion is man's attempt to reconcile himself to God, which is impossible. Christ died for our sins. Check out Chuck Missler. Jesus loves you, brother!

      Did you purposely make your way to a BAD RELIGION song to preach at people who don’t want to be preached at? If so, congrats… you’re one of the biggest reasons people hate religion in the first place.

    Father, can you hear me?
    How have I let you down?
    I curse the day that I was born
    And all the sorrow in this world
    Let me take you to the herding ground
    Where all good men are trampled down
    Just to settle a bet that could not be won
    Between a prideful father and his son
    Will you guide me now? For I can't see
    A reason for the suffering and this long misery
    What if every living soul could be upright and strong?
    Well then I do imagine
    There will be sorrow
    Yeah, there will be sorrow
    And there will be sorrow no more
    When all soldiers lay their weapons down
    Or when all kings and all queens relinquish their crowns
    Or when the only true messiah rescues us from ourselves
    It's easy to imagine
    There will be sorrow
    Yeah, there will be sorrow
    And there will be sorrow no more
    There will be sorrow
    Yeah, there will be sorrow
    And there will be sorrow no more
    Yeah, there will be sorrow
    Yeah, there will be sorrow
    And there will be sorrow no more

    The lyrics and music of this song sound so authentic, that for years I thought it was based on an actual Irish folk song.

    • @UsualMike
      @UsualMike 9 років тому +7

      +MrUnidyne Interesting that you should mention this. If you listen to Greg Graffin's solo album "Cold As The Clay", you'll find that it is a collection of covers of traditional American folk songs mixed in with a few of Graffin's own original compositions. If you aren't a devotee of folk music (and I'm not) it's very hard to tell, without looking of course, which songs are covers and which ones are new material. That is the hallmark of a great songwriter.

    I don't mean this as a diss in any way because I lovee bad religion but the start of this song sounds like something by the police which is neat, the drumming in particular. great song though. probably these guys and the descendents are the two tightest punk bands going which says a lot considering they are both probably the oldest. . respect from sydney

    • @justinleokennedy
      @justinleokennedy 9 років тому +2

      +conor smith Dude, a comparison to the Police is more of a compliment than a diss in my book. I also LOVE the start of this song. The harmonics in the guitar sound so beautiful when combined with the hi-hat and rim patterns. Cheers from Arizona: a place so conservative I need Bad Religion to keep my sanity. :)

    • @UsualMike
      @UsualMike 9 років тому

      +conor smith I wouldn't take it as an insult, and doubt that the band would, either. Given the time the band was formed and the age of most of its members, it's hard not to imagine that Brooks Wackerman and possibly other members might have been influenced by The Police.

    I think Greg said once, this is a song about the book of Job. It's the great sadness of knowing this world will never be as just and fair as it ought to be. I think he's writing from the perspective of Job or another believer (maybe he was at one point in his life) and questioning the supposed wisdom of a "just" creator. I think it's a great song by Bad Religion standards and it fits with the theme of questioning supposed truths.

    As a combat veteran, I know that the only way to secure peace is to let people know that you are willing to fight for it. I understand what Graffin wishes for but I know how unrealistic that is. For what it's worth, I'm willing to fight and risk my life to see peace. I don't want praise. I just want people to understand.

Look at religious shamans, priests, monks etc. Do they practice violence? Look at the teachings of their perspective on life. Look at the 1960's hippie movements. Those people didn't go to war but they practice peace and love. You don't need to fight in order to be peaceful. That is just bullshit...
