Vivian is one of the most underrated guitar players.He basically is getting ripped off with Def Leppard. They don't have him playing as many solos as he deserves. Especially when he can play circles around Phil. That's my opinion !!!

I attended this show...It was unreal!!! Twisted Sister opened the show and killed it. Then Dio and company..damn...what more could you ask for! Saw Dio live 4 times and I gotta say Ronnie gave 110% every time and blew my mind. RIP Brother you were truly the best singer in the Rock/Metal world.

I didn't even like their studio work...but they ended up doing really well. ..great opening act.....As was Accept who did on the next tour...
How I miss the 80's. The time when the guitar gods ruled the earth. I love watching the old videos of Vivian, Craig Goldy, Jake E Lee and numerous others. Wish there was more to watch on RR (The king himself). Truly the greatest time to go to a rock concert. What amazing shows.

Dio was successful in ensuring his bands brought fresh ideas to the table. He talks about the value of replacing members of his band for this reason. Refer to his Lock up the Wolves UA-cam recording video. What is also known is that Vinny Campbell and Dio had a magical chemistry in studio and on the stage...that may have only translated in those two environs. In any regard, knowing all humans have professional goals and needs, their three albums together are some of the best the 1980s and since had to offer...and to this day are revered by many old and new alike. Regardless of what Campbell did after Dio, his legacy was bourne by the skills he had already left on recording for the world. I would argue that anyone who has listened to rock over a period of time rates Vinny Campbell's abilities as very high.

I believe the reason why people, as you labeled it, "dis" Vivian is because Vivian began to do what Dio was attempting to refrain from doing, which is making an individual THE band. Similarly, Yngwie Malmsteen's band is just YNGWIE and the backing track, and Dio wanted to resist the idea of making a single member of the band the individual who represented the band. Though RJ Dio may have become what that is, he attempted to bring as much emphasis to the individual members as possible.

My first concert was Dio on his 1983 Diver Down tour. Dio is a great first concert for sure.
I believe the reason why people, as you labeled it, "dis" Vivian is because Vivian began to do what Dio was attempting to refrain from doing, which is making an individual THE band. Similarly, Yngwie Malmsteen's band is just YNGWIE and the backing track, and Dio wanted to resist the idea of making a single member of the band the individual who represented the band. Though RJ Dio may have become what that is, he attempted to bring as much emphasis to the individual members as possible.

I don't understand the hate towards Vivian joining Def Leppard... sure, he does play other and easier stuff, but he is WAY more happy with Def Leppard, because they are nice and respectful and let him sing, if he wants to. He always had fights with Dio about that. He enjoys the freedom he gets from Def Leppard. Stop bitching about wasted talent, he still plays in his band Last in Line and rips off solos like he did in 1984.

Another sad example of how you don’t let money ruin the very rare “musical chemistry” Dio was never remotely the same after Vivian Campbell left the band. Those albums were classics, Ronnie never found another writing partner that even came close.
