Dewar's bread and butter in MN was the PK, on a team that struggled to kill penalties whenever Dewar stepped on the ice the team killed penalties better and got more chances at shorthanded breakaways
We miss him and are happy he has a shot on a team like Toronto

Is this a jab at the low income of the goalies or the high income of the fourth line? Regardless, I think Stolarz and Murray were at a fraction what they're worth... I don't think we should complain about that.

Great post, steve. One thing about Nick Robertson which is interesting is there something in his bearing, and his face, and his body language that just reeks of disgruntlement. He’s the guy who doesn’t fit in, and it’s always there. I may be making a big assumption here but there’s certainlyabout him that reminds me of the guy who wants to be part of the group and just doesn’t click. I’m sure he’s a great teammate and I’m sure he’s a lot of fun but there’s something about him that feels like he’s not where he should be.

I liked Dewar in Minny & was happy when Tre aquired him. Sadly he was playing with a shoulder that required a surgical fix (now complete) & I thought he played well despite the injury. A very good skater, who is physical, plays responsible D & is solid on the PK. Good signing as I think he's capable of more offence. Played centre with the Wild, so he's versatile.
We miss Dewey 2 in MN. Glad Toronto is taking care of him.

I love the signing. Dewey's versatile and a decent skater. He'll net 20-30p AND play PK in 10-12 mins/game.
Robertson on the 2nd line or with Marner gets 25+ goals. Crazy to give Dewer a million and not him.

Robertson wants more than that and he quite simply isn't worth it. Guys useless defensivley, Can't kill penalties Softer than Charmin 10 ply toilet paper.....he thinks he hasn't been given a proper shot But he's done absolutely nothing to earn that shot. Mcmann is thr better option on that 2nd line. He does more than Robertson all around and is arguably just as good at putting the puck in the net they had very similar TOI per game and Mcmann scored at the same rate. If robby wanted to sign here he would have by now, Take your career high 14 goals and go try and get a ridiculous contract elsewhere than....he's not worth thr headache
I'd like to see an opening lineup that goes something like this:
Domi - Matthews - Nylander
Knies - Tavares - Marner
Robertson - Holmberg - Jarnkrok
McMann - Kampf - Dewar/Reaves
Rielly - Tanev
McCabe - OEL
Benoit - Liljegren / Timmins (Hakanpaa only IF he is healthy enough to play!)

If Domi plays the wing, I don't see where Robertson fit. I would be very surprised if they trade Jarnkrok.
wild fan here: dewar is a great kid. a year removed from being a great pk'er partnered with Mason shaw prior to shaws 3rd acl injury. one other fun thing to note is Dewar's 3/10 goals with the wild last year came from his only hatty (his 4th goal got called back no kidding). great 4th liner you got there. not the best faceoff guy as that's been a wild weakness since koivu retired. love yall have a great summer!

I like Dewar man. He does all the little things. Watch him play he's not flashy but all the little details of hockey, his forecheck and his back check he's stellar man. Imo

Guy's average TOI is just over 11mins/game. He played bottom 6 minutes in Toronto and still had a better point per game mark than he did with Minnesota. Over a full season, he'll get you 25 to 30 points. 20 for sure. He's versatile and a decent skater. Love the signing. I like Dewey @ just over 1 better than what Reaves, Kampf and Jarnkrok make. Each of them is overpaid.

Dewar's strength, he's very good on the Pk ,he had like15 breakaways and I think 7 goals, his Best game he played 13 minutes and had a hat trick, of course they cut back his minutes after that, and he's got wheels, he Will get in your face, wish he was still a Wild, I wish him nothing but the best

Dewar looked like the leafs best defensive bottom 6 forward in my opinion.
The first thing I did when I saw .18 was look up his jersey numbers
Dewar can be a difference maker when you need a grinder to change the flow of the game. Let him loose on the ice and watch what he can do.
He is a strong, good two-way forward, who plays d first and does good job with it.
This sounds kinda like Kampf insurance to me. I think I'm ok with that change for the cap space and for the player at this point
Anyone else feel an offer sheet coming for Robertson? I could see some bottom feeder team do it for 1.51 mill AAV and the leafs are f'ed if they match it and get no compensation if they don't. Offer sheets rarely work on big name RFA's but the leafs might have boxed themselves into a corner on this one.
That's great news. The Leaf's now solidify their position as the top team, of the middle of the pack teams, for the 2024/25 season. And are guaranteed to go the full 7 games, but lose, in the first round. But still looking forward to the beginning of the season. GO LEAFS GO!!
Why are people so concerned what the cap number is in July? A team can be 10% over the cap basically until puck drop in October, so who cares. There are so many things that can happen between now & the start of the regular season, so let's see how things unfold. For all anyone knows, Hakanpaa might not be able to play & gets put on LTIR. Maybe Robertson, with no arb rights & no leverage, decides to sit out like Nylander. BTW, I like Timmins as he's a hard to find RD, a very good skater, with good skills, a good shot & not small (6' 2", 208lbs). He has real upside imo at only 1.1M aav. I'd put Reaves on waivers before I'd do so with Timmins, as he'd very likely be claimed.
If Hakanpaa doesn’t sign..could you see the 1.5 mil going to Robertson?

Surely Trev has moves on his mind because going into the season this tight on the cap is madness. But's here's a few talking points to respond to this video:
1. IMO it makes more sense to trade Timmins for a 5th/6th because he'd surely get claimed on waivers.
2. 3M AAV for Liljegren, who'll probably play on the 3rd line, is excessive. IMO that contract was an insurance policy in case tthe Tanev or OEL deals failed. Perhaps in a deal for Morgan Frost who seems to want out of Philly and Torts?
3. Just trade Nick Robertson already. He's been "that up and coming guy" for like 5 years now, and he's failed to make the roster consistently. Plus he's undersized, which is something we know Trev and Berube don't like. At this point he's blocking the pipeline for Cowan, Minten and Grebyonkin so it's best to just move his RFA rights for a 2nd/3rd (which could come in handy at the deadline).
5. Might as well just put Kampf's 2.4M on waivers and move Jarnkrok too.
6. Reaves can't play 82 games so bury his contract and have a Sammy Blais reunion.

Yeah, but what is Woll doesn't work out or gets injured and Stolz isn't ready for #1 duty? very likely at least one of those situations is gonna happen, someone might claim Murray and then the Leafs will be up the creek.

Timmins is fine as a #7. Not sure why he's so dismissed. Only Rielly has a better points per game as a regular Leafs Dman in the last 4 seasons than Timmins' 24 points in his last 50 GP.
makes over 1 mil for a guy that barely gets in, doesnt fit the style the team is trying to play, esp in the playoffs, team is cap strapped cuz of the salary structure, or else i could agree timmins would not be horrible as a 7 on a team that is not structured cap wise like this

Why isn’t an option to waive Reaves? It’s 100% he’s not being claimed, so he’ll end up on the Marlies and be available for call ups if needed. That would be my 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th choice before trading Nick. It is insane to trade a 23 year old goal scorer to keep a 38 year old 4th line tough guy who can’t produce and is one of the slowest players in the league. I pray Reaves is not on the opening day roster.
A good indicator of how little there is out there to sign.
To be honest Toronto is a little lucky nobody offer sheeted Connor Dewar. An offer sheet under 1.5 M doesn't require any draft pick compensation. If anotther team had come in and offered 1.4 M for 2 years (that was the projected contract for him) it would have been uncomfortable for them to match it.

My theory leafs sign Yanni at the trade deadline when he's had time to heal and then his cap hit would be pro rated and he'll be the add on D at the deadline with 0 asset cost, rest goes to a forward at the deadline. #SDPTHOUGHTS #SDPQUESTION

You should really watch the games more if you think Timmins is there 8th best D. +9 , 10pts in 25 games paired with an AHL guy mostly. D zone starts with the 3rd and 4th line. Those numbers don't happen on the leafs. Rielly and Liljigren wouldn't have done that well.

@@Rain.34.89 how does he suck ? He put up 10pts in 25 games was +9 with 15 min avg a game playing with the 3rd and 4th lines and about 14-20s with the second PP. He transitions quick out of the Zone and doesn't get bodied. If you actually watch the games he outplayed Lily Brodie and Giordano. But ya he sucks ...
