Miss the old Aatrox , the feeling when u rush in 1 vs 2,3 enemies press R and start slashing and healing is incredible.
We need to bring him back
Old Master Yi with AP scaling was even something different. Same feeling but way more broken
100% prefer old aatrox, i loved his old abilities
Or just play Olaf for the same playstyle.
Olaf is booring and lame@@Giggles4692
I would absolutely love to see the Sion rework deconstructed. It's such a drastically different champion and almost nobody knows the old him.
It's also one of the oldest ones, i started in late season 3 and only saw him like 2 before he was reworked.
Yeah, almost like he now is a real champion with a cohesive gameplay instead of 2 halves.
true!
@@N12015 I really love the new Sion but the old Sion is a pretty interesting topic.
I started playing long after he was reworked, but I found that he healed his allies based on damage dealt in R to be really interesting, and am pretty bummed no current champ has anything like it. (The closest I can think of would be an AS incorporating Taric build, but it's not really similar at all)
Old Aatrox was one of my favorite champs. I wish he was still this way.
Same :(
me too my heart aches just thinking about it like a wound that will never be healed 😭
Old fiora too haysss

We need to bring him back
Old Aatrox will always have a special place in my heart since I remember him being one of the first champions I played when I freshly started with league about 6 or 7 years ago, and even though it were just botgames at that times, I really had a blast with him. But since I ended up as a support main, I never really ended up picking Aatrox besides the times I would maybe got him in ARAM while he was in the free rotation so hearing that Aatrox was getting a rework back then gave me mixed feelings because one champion that I never played before and got reworked, Warwick, became one of my favourites to play in league so I thought that it probably will be fine, but there was always this dread I felt that the Aatrox I first got into league with may be gone then...which by now turned into reality.
I dont dislike the new Aatrox, there were some fun moments I had with him aswell...I just really miss the old Aatrox, and he is now synonymus with an older time of league. One where every new champion wasnt an overtuned amalgamation of exsisting champions, but instead had new ideas and interesting gimmicks, where we had event thematic game modes and holiday maps like the Halloween and Christmas ones...and where I think Riot cared more about the community and less about just making money.
This comment Hit different man
I miss the effort and care put into the thematic game modes.
Actually I miss thematic game modes all together.

Old Aatrox was also my first champion played too. It was a one for all game.
They could have just made the new as Aatrox brother since it was a whole new kit. The old Aatrox was doing well after the buffs before he got reworked.

I love new Aatrox, I have him at m7, he's one of my favorite champions to play in the entire game
But I also dearly miss old Aatrox, he was always a fun flex pick I could lock in when I just wanted to have fun. I thoroughly enjoy playing the new version, but I also loved playing the old version.
All this being said though, with Renata and Akshans releases, I FIRMLY believe they should give Aatrox's revive back.
Right? It seems unfair for two characters to have a revive mechanic in one basic ability but for Aatrox to not have it whatsoever, not even in his ult, when it had been a core mechanic since his first release
@@guillermolopez2673 aatrox revive is janky and 80% of the time just got u killed again with little counterplay, in a fight where he has his revive, he dies and revives, ok, and dies again because conq fell off, enemies cd is up, and because u died someone else in ur team also died, rendering u useless most of the time. NOW with extra healing, you wont die as easily as before, as a consequence your ally also wont, and so the champion just is better, if they put revive the heal on ulti WILL decrease and that is not a good trade off
@@yankokassinof6710 following that logic Zilean's ult, Renata's revive or the now removed Chemtech soul wouldn't be useful either, because you can die, revive, and still die again wasting it. The point is not whether the revive mechanic is useful or not in some cases, but that it's been a fundamental part of Aatrox's kit since his release and they took it away from him just because
Fuck Revive. It was way too broken since you could tower dive so stupidly easy.
I want my damage to minions and HP regen back ,so I can actually be strong at early game (Where Aatrox is suppose to be lane bully).
You can argue that, but you also have to notice that old Aatrox's revive was and still would be the only reliable revive skill in the game, since:
Anivia needs to survive with less armour to revive
Zac needs to survive with severely less health to revive
Renata's target need to kill/assist to revive
Akshan's teammate revives, but not into battle, and Akshan also needs to kill/assist
I used to main Aatrox back in the day, and I was really hyped for his rework when it was first announced, because it seemed to make Aatrox more like how I played him, which was a weird ad/AP hybrid using gunblade and nashors to shift Aatrox away from pure autos and more towards trading and burst. However, I could never really get behind the new Aatrox. The problem for me was never the revive, or the lack of on-hit support, it was how abhorrently slow the new Aatrox’s Q felt. Maybe I’m crazy, well probably actually I’ve been playing league for a while now, but whenever I played the new Aatrox it just felt like it took so long for my ability to go off, especially in the late game. I never could get used to it, and ended up dropping the champion.
I used to do the same thing back in season 5, picked up the champion again in season 9 and I just couldn't figure him out. Just trying to land abilities like I was used to felt slow and clunky especially due to the different shapes of his q. Trying to spam autos like conventional oldtrox was completely nonviable due to the removal of his healing. He's a fine champ and I know people who play him and like him now but he's just not the champion I used to play in any way
Aatrox's q ability animation time is definitely noticeable in late game when your going against champions with quick animations, ESPECIALLY assassins. Wish there was some way to quicken it, like yasuo's q with attack speed :I
aatrox was the first champ i played (it was in every beginner players free rotation) and i really enjoyed it. I bought it and reached m5 on it. It was really a good champion. A simple revive. A simple but technical autoattack boost. A straight forward Q. A funny skillshot. An ult that turns you into a short range adc.
The champ was great.
Then it got a mini rework. The furry that used to be meaningless turned into a charging passive that gave aatrox weak timings and strong timings. Like irelia passive but much better balanced (it had counterplays). It gave its Q and skillshot a new meaning, since they now was also useful to activate passive.
Aatrox had everything.
Even his lore, which no one cares about, could be understood just by looking at it.
Aatrox had everything.
Riot removed it and put another champ under the same name.
Full reworks only went on outdated harmful champs. Poppy Sion Evelynn Yorick Urgot Mord Warwick Nunu. They all had toxic gameplay and gained a real meaning. Even kayle kept her entire gameplay intact. Aatrox was not toxic nor outdated. He got removed.
The community may have saved all chat. But it did let aatrox die.
it's hard to learn but it's extremely strong if u master him
He rock hard rn tho.
I've had an idea for a while, and that's if you have mastery 7 on a champ, then they get reworked, the m7 looks different, maybe it looks like that Champs color scheme. Idk I just think there should be something for the pre rework playerbase for that champ
Would be galio urgot and pantheon for me. Would be nice even tho i dont play their new Version much
Same for poppy and galio is worse.
I reached mastery 7 on xin by afk farming into 1v1 backdore tower at 30 min. They kept the champ but not the spikes. Never played it again.
sounds stupid as hell
I have like 170k 7 lvl on talon and i tauched him twice after rework in season 7
I remember playing him during s5 and his attack speed with lifesteal is soo good. I really miss the old him
With tht zephyr men
We need to bring him back!
Aarrox used to be my main, I still miss him. I played once after the rework and that was it.
We need to bring him back!
Loved Atrox because of the dark flight skills , back then it seemed like the coolest thing
It still is. The sound effects and how hardcore it felt was so cool.
Your title is wrong, it should be 'Aatrox - Before the Removal'
He was also one of my favourites. The change really put the last nail in the coffin of me playing LoL routinely.
I mean, that's kind of a good thing.
I miss the old Aatrox so much. From the visuals, to the lore, to his gameplay and his identity. Sure it wasn't perfect and perhaps seemed generic, but it was very unique and had it's identity. I really felt powerful and as the video said, one was able to dance with death. Now Aatrox is a constantly screaming tragic character who really wants everyone and everything to die. He has become a AD caster with a playstyle that does really remind me of Riven. Ofc it's still different in many aspects, but nevertheless the new aatrox feels closer to Riven than to his former self.
His voice over was so dope bro now he's f*ckin swarzanegger 😂
Same
We need to bring him back
New trox is objectively better from a thematic/lore perspective. Riot didn’t really know what DARKIN were before LoR tbh, it really fleshed them out into something good.
@@UniquelyAwful yes, but the "Now, we turn the tide" is much better than the current aatrox on some aspects. The new aatrox is kind of a theatrical character constantly screaming. It's not for everyone. I like him a lot in LoR as he's more toned down and his interactions with the other darkins are really cool and he seems to actually like his crew.
Damn that hits right in the feels. I got my first ever pentakill with the old aatrox i'll never forget the rush of adrenaline it gave me...
Me too man, he was pretty overtuned on release xD
I knew this video was coming and when I saw the 20 minute long duration I knew this was gonna be good. Especially knowing Aatrox was your fav champion before Thresh
I personally like the new look better than the old one, and I never got to play the old Aatrox, but I've seen so many people talking about this topic I'm thinking more and more heavily every time that Riot should release a version with old League champs, before any rework had been done, just for fun
I new darkin that plays exactly like the old aatrox would be funny.
yeah we need an old kit mode, i wanna play old fiora and aatrox and xerath and galio
I really miss the old Aatrox. I even made a montage of him way back in the day, one of my fondest memories is a match I played him in the jungle when I went 20/1 and still lost a match. I got him to m7 before the vgu and I really really miss it, I wasn't good at him by any means but god damn, I absolutely loved the way the champ played. It was so unique with the ultimate and the toggle W, sigh. I really wish we could have him back, even if he's never ever meta. Lol.

I would really like the idea of you covering Maokai next, before Gnar became my main champ it was mostly Maokai but due to item changes and his ult rework I'm sad that he'll never be the strong tree you could rely on anymore in team fights.
I actually miss old aatrox. Swapping his sword from heal to burst was what defined his kit. I loved the old one. the new one is just ok.
Bro absolutely nobody played old aatrox he was the Asol of top lane the only reason people played him right before rework was because he was busted lmfao.
@@donjones4022 I was one of the few that played him alot from release until rework...now he's basically a shitty version of riven. Q 3 attacks, w a stun after a delay (rivens is instant) E a dash, Riven has a shield and R power increase and riven has an execute which aatrox just extends duration.
We need to bring him back!

This was the one I was really looking forward to! Thank you cryo!
I really miss old Aatrox. I remember watching an Anklespankin video where he played him AP Mid and I fell in love with that pick. It even got me into playing him the regular way as well. New Aatrox feels nothing like him, and I definitely agree that he should've been released as his own champion and left old Aatrox alone.
A man of culture
I like new Aatrox but Old Aatrox will never be replaced for me.
Old Aatrox still remains my record of kills in 1 game - 36. I will never forget that.
I really like new Aatrox a lot.
Only things that makes me really salty is patch 9.9 ,because Riot nerfed Aatrox really hard by lowering his HP regen (Now he regens same as Marksman do) and patch 9.18 when they lowered his damage to minions (Thanks to that Aatrox have really hard time clearing Super Minions).
But it was a necessity, he was waaaay to broken. I love the new Aatrox as well and play him very often. Clearing super minions is not that easy, but they buffed his waveclear a couple of patches ago. So i think he is in a fine state.
New Aatrox can't clear siege minions for shit, that is one of my biggest complaints.
As much as everyone wants the revive back (as do I) its important to remember the power budget. Theyd have to roll back some of the healthier changes to give him the novelty of the revive. There would have to be a major enough change to league to warrent increasing the budget to give him the res
Ah the inevitable video. Never forget what riot took from us
They could've Keep his old w with his passive if hes below a certain amount of hp it will heal in scaling of his ad, while if its above 70% it'll deal a percentage amount base on enemy max hp. I think that will bring him a little closer with his old kit
Kill him in-lore again so Rito can rework him again
I even started playing lol when aatrox came out. I just remember his image in the log in screen and being so excited about trying to get him. Then when i finally got to play him, it was even better than I had imagined, but now it's just... different. I miss getting a pentakill with a q + r or being unkillable while striking so fast I was constantly healing. Chills remembering that
I feel like during those times, Aatrox’s kit was a little overwhelming, especially considering the pool a champs to choose from who had relatively simple kit. However, if Aatrox were to be released today, his old kit would fit pretty well among the current champs.
They remove the revive so Akshan could revive the team 2 times
the thing that suprises me the most about conversations about the aatrox rework is that out of nowhere everyone used to play old aatrox when in reality he was rockbottom pickrate
Yeah people also forget that his jump was the most awful feeling abillity in the game to use due to how often it got interrupted or how hard you lost lane if you got ganked twice. These guys who all had m7 on "old Aatrox" sure put on their rose tinted glasses.
@@Linesweeper yes my guess would be they got most mastery on the last couple months when riot intentionally left him op
yeah, back then nobody played him but now everyone is an aatrox main
@@Linesweeper honestly, as a m7 old aatrox, I probably did put on rose tinted glasses. Although he is my highest mastery point champion so I vibed with him from the start. I'm just shit at new aatrox though, I get bursted with any gap closer and I'm bad at landing my 3 sweetspots (plus slow q animations) I picked up Warwick jg and he feels a lot like old aatrox in terms of teamfight
@@Linesweeper Knowing when to use your Q as old Aatrox was a skillcheck because of how easy to interrupt it was. Landing the Q knockup was capable of changing the flow of a team fight.
As an old Aatrox main(and my first main), the new Aatrox is a new champion. I remember the last night before the rework; pentas, and two solo Barons. Bloodrazer, Rageblade,Bork was so nuts. Rip Old aatrox
We need to bring him back!
Aatrox was my very first champion ever when arriving in LoL... I'm so sad they reworked him :(
He had the mutilate passive because there was an issue at the time with enchanters being too strong. They gave a similar thing to Irelia as well, before removing that as well.
I still find it crazy how the mini rework they gave him one patch before his big VGU actually made him a good, playable champ. They finally made him good just in time to remove him.
nobody played old Aatrox, then Riot reworked him, and then suddenly everybody was an old Aatrox main
I played him a lot and have a lot of nostalgia for his old kit and I can still admit new aatrox is just better.
That's such a disingenous thing to say lmao. I think the new Aatrox is cool but he will never be old Aatrox, and this is coming from someone who played the pre-rework version with over 200k mastery.
Old Aatrox was my favorite champ as well, first main, first skin etc
I loved older aatrox, firts version of him. But now he is just like riven
"just like riven" is the dumbest take i've ever heard ngl

I really loved old Aatrox, his design was so cool and the Darkin Theme is something I love, when he got reworked, I had mixed feelings, he felt like a riven copy, he didn't feel like the old Aatrox, and I prefer his old design and voice, but a few years later, after watching Happy Chime Noises video about Aatrox, I decided to play him a lot and I love him now, I still miss his Revive on his Ult, and also, the Dark Souls Boss Aatrox video contributed my love for the guy.
I hit mastery level 7 before rework with aatrox. I still like him after the rework but the removal of his revive is kind of upsetting. Instead of trying to balance it they removed what i feel was a core identity of aatrox. But its still fun mega healing and those crit q hits just feel so good.
I miss old aatrox so much. Used to build devourer on him, and it was one of the few times I genuinely had fun in league.
Would have loved to be able to play both of them, I really liked the old Aatrox (2nd itteration), hated the rework but after the change made to the rework (4th itteration) I played him a bit and absolutetly love him. Sad that the old one is gone still though.
Old aatrox was my only mastery 7 for the longest time. I had more time on him than anyone else by far. After the rework I struggled finding a new champion to truly main but none stick. I play a handful of champions now here and there but I don't get as excited to just OTP a champion anymore. The drain tank playstyle and the dueling was just too fun.
i understand you
old aatrox lore and personality was my top 1 in league by far, he was SO AWESOME
Lore?
NC joke
I’m glad someone finally speaks up how good old aatrox was and how betrayed we felt wheb the new rework came out and how it was more of a new champ and a riven copy
Old Aatrox was my first main (it being the first champ in the list made that easy) when i started season 5/6. I when he got reworked I more or less stopped playing him.
IMO Trundle is probably the closest champ now in terms of playstyle (AA based drain tank/carry). I now play less and less of league as I really enjoyed many of the older designes of toplaners/bruisers that now either not exist anymore or can't compete with newer designes.
Aatrox was a demon at his first release. The rework completely changed his playstyle.
Also Sion, man was a walking fountain of healing. League was so much fun back then.
I like the dark eligance and voicelines and skills that old Aatrox had like they integrated his champ design to his skills. He has wings so they have him a skill that actually uses his wings that sold me to buy him and use him
Pain is temporary Victory is forever 😢😢
Kayn/Rhaast became my main post Aatrox rework, helped fill the Darkin shaped hole in my heart
He was a top 3 favorite champion of mine pre-rework. They strayed away from his original kit so much that it killed his identity. His old kit was so much fun to play and the management of when to use what version of W was a unique form of skill expression.
I even prefer his old appearance. Much more menacing compared to the cartoony looking visual he has now.
Sion and Yorick are my picks for the next episodes! Thank for the great work :)
Aatrox was the first champ I bought with RP, when he first released I was like "I really need to play this champion" and I did not have enough IP(Influence Points which is the current Blue essence) back then. He was so much fun to play even tho I was bad at the game, I don't remember having fun like that in this game in a long time. Lastly, he had very unique Login Music which made me want to buy him at the spot.
I remember back in the day, when Riot tried to promote crazy picks like Melee ADCs post-juggernaut patch, before they did a complete 180° on that one. Me and my best friend pushed the idea to the limits, trying all sorts of bruisers in the bottom lane alongside a support that complemented their strengths or covered their weaknesses. Old Aatrox was one of our more successful ventures. I would pick up Soraka, to compensate for the excessive use of blood price, or to make his healing even more ridiculous. He would forego any defensive items otherwise needed to survive in favor of damage and crit. The early game was rough but we could scrap deceivingly well and got some double kills on the account of our enemy's overconfidence. But never have I seen a more sudden pentakill, eviscerating the entire enemy team with a few swings and an IE, followed by a victorious push. It was a real highlight of our experiments and a memory to which I still look fondly. Our other favorite combination which we played regularly was old Kayle and Morde. None of these things exist anymore. Which is why we quit altogether.
Really loved it while it lasted.
Though I guess, it's better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all.
old Aatrox's model looked so much cooler. The wings were so badass with the veins and his overall stance and demeanor was cooler.
You mean having scoliosis and torn "wings" that he didn't use at all?? Not trying to be mean but the new Aatrox has better lore, quotes, visuals and gameplay. He can finally be S+ tier and keep up with the rest of the champions, requires a lot of skill and is satisfying af when you ult and hit every Q and W and then get a reset. He also heals more and is more reliable in team fights.
@@АтанасКостов-с2ч TBH I just really liked being malphite but actually having dmg earlygame (and malphite in game model looks shit) Q in and stay alive as long as possible. Now I do this but with Warwick
R.I.P Old Aatrox. u''ll always be alive in our heart.
Oh man, Aatrox. I was so hyped when he came out, because at first glance I saw him as a split between a caster carry and a melee carry, and given my astounding ability to auto attack minions in the middle of fights for no discernable reason, but land most skill shots somewhat reliably I thought I had found the Master Yi that actually functioned in my hands... I was so horribly wrong, and I still loved him. The absolute dopamine tsunami that came from surviving at sub 100 HP dozens of times in a single fight was unmatched, even if I could only make it happen once out of every twenty games. The idea of this otherwordly being swooping down from on high in the midst of a losing battle and resonating with the losing side so strongly that they could turn any disadvantage into a blowout victory was so rad to my high-school edgelord brain. This eerily beautiful, gore splattered, stretched out THING dancing among the corpses was truly something special in League at the time, it was something that I think was transitioned well into being Jhin later down the line.
Then New Aatrox ran in like a linebacker, broke him in half, took everyone's lunch money, then beat the shit out of them anyway.
Turns out, steroids was one hell of a drug, and Aatrox took so much that he traded out his living whip blade for little more than a hulking mass of iron. Don't get me wrong, he knew how to swing it, but it wasn't the same. Aatrox is a case study in character assassination, and while the new one is good, he's still an imposter standing on the grave of the original.
beautifully worded
We miss you old prince. Rest easy. You won't be forgotten... o7
I’d like to see one of these for the old Sejuani. The rework made me quit Sej. There was a lot more skill expression trying to optimize her permafrost than the current sej which is just “get 4 stacks and press E”
I understand why the old sej ult had to be changed, but I hate the current basic ability changes.
I also used to play sej in 4 of the 5 roles, with adc being the exception, in both tank and mage. So I played her a LOT.
"it felt like an insult rather than a rework"
that sentence pretty much sums up my feelings, thank you.
I joined season 11 and I still want old Aatrox. There’s even a meme about how certain champions have more sustain than Aatrox right now. It’s so sad how he died of ligma, and watching how riot effectively buffed the fuckle out of him only to delete him from the game. The second iteration would have been my favorite too, but here we are. Big shame.
Same. I joined in season 10. Aatrox was one of my first mains and I loved him but i feel like I would’ve liked playing old aatrox just as much.
Aatrox rework was what presented this champion for me, at the time I didn't really was aware of all lol champions, and then this red devil destroyed one of my games, I fell in love
new aatrox is a cool champion. he aint aatrox tho. granted, his play feels a lot more intuitive for new players (big sword = attack slow), but old aatrox was a completely different man.
I remember destroying zeds mid with Aatrox mid. Just stood there and auto him.
@@shemsuhor8763 he's definitely similar in terms of kit, but they are just different enough to have different play styles. I suggest trying both champions to feel the differences
As someone who never played when old aatrox was in the game. I love the new aatrox, he has been my main since i started the game
I feel like you're over exaggerating the strength of his pre-work abilities.
Wasn't one of the reasons why he got reworked in the first place because his ability to use warrant that good at letting him stick onto a target?
His mini work fixed his whole champion basically, only to then get taken away with his VGU
My friend to this day, still build Aatrox like you used to, attack speed and life steal.
His love will never fade.
New Aatrox is absolutely one of my favorite champions in the game. I hated old Aatrox, not my kinda playstyle at all, but I can recognise that nothing of him is left, which is really sad and in my opinion makes it a massively flopped rework even if we got a really fun champion out of it. Now even new Aatrox is gone, as picking him feels like you're in a wheelchair all game because of just how much they've handicapped him. I've started playing Lillia top to scratch the itch, and that's been my new main.
l discovered old aatrox on weeks free champions and absolutely fall in love with him. İn one week I hit the champion mastery level 4 because if you dont buy champion level 5 was locked. When it gone I just buyed him with RP. Then my PC was gone and when I got my PC back aatrox was long gone. He is the only champion I never played while in mastery level 5
It makes alot of sense that many aatrox mains at the time of the remake didnt like the new kit. I played old Aatrox and never liked him, but that was because i prefer skillshot champs. Looking back on it now if they had released new aatrox as a new champ that probably wouldve made both sides happy. New aatrox is super cool to me aesthetically and gameplay wise, Predicting movement with skillshots as a badass nihilistic drain tank?! Peak enjoyment. New aatrox=Chad
I remember when Aatrox was released and I bought him bc he looked badass. The champ grew on me and became one of my favorites. Once the rework happened, I felt like my mastery 7 became obsolete. lol I refuse to ctrl+6
For me, the reowrk that changed the most will always be sion.
From being primarily played as an AP one-shotter/Tank/DPS
To being either a lethality one-shotter/Tank is a massive difference.
I DO like new sion though. I just think that he spent most of his life similar to the current shyvanna rather than the juggernaut he is now.
I had forgotten what old Aatrox even was... I kinda miss it now that I remembered
I'm along the line of thought of him being a totally different champion. I feel Old Aatrox's identity was about the revive and stance toggle. New Aatrox doesn't feel like Aatrox to me, just a completely different champion with different purposes, to the point that, if they would both be present in the game, they wouldn't feel anywhere near redundant.
I would totally see, like, a new piece of lore where it's revealed that the current Aatrox is an usurper that managed to lock the real Aatrox away, and then he breaks free and the usurper reveals his true name (aka a name change for current Aatrox) and they become bitter rivals waging war against each other, and destroying everything wherever they fight without a clear victor, this way they could both be present in the game just fine.
Old AP Aatrox was so much fun. I regret for not abusing it a lot back then.
Old Aatrox was my fav champ and I miss playing him, but as you said Aatrox at the moment is a good champion, I do enjoy him sometimes but he isnt as fun to play as he used to. Also I really dont like his new visiuals, the old Aatrox looked so badass and unique, especially his sword, the new Aatrox looks boring and just like some anime demon without the personality the old Aatrox used to have.
wdym, the old one had personality? He didn't have much info in lore. The new one actually looks very good and fits way better to modern league. I started playing midseason 4 and aatrox was always a useless troll pick everyone was complaining about. That changed only right before his s8 rework. To me he was always like a less fun tryndamere with clunky kit, easy to kite. Ppl here miss his auto attack sustaind oriented playstyle but he was actually just powerful at healing off minion waves and bursting ppl down with q+r engage. I started playing aatrox a lot only since his rework with ult reset, which made him so much more satisfying than just being a distraction. Old aatrox had mediocre playrate, but now he has a decent one, so i would say the rework was successful and i don't really miss old aatrox, which was just cheese to win, stat check, crappy champ.
most ppl never appreciates
"you never know what you have until is gone."
Hot take I think, but I love new Aatrox. Him before the rework just seemed a lot less interesting to play. But I sympathize with those who miss him. His rework is very different from the old one. Although him having no revive sucks. Legit removed his lore from the game.
I started playing Aatrox like month before his rework. He carried me to first time hitting Platinum. Had him on level 7 in no time. So much fun. They should release the same champ with a different name as a new darkin.
i love the old one because of his attack speed, his attack speed is so satisfying to see when he ult the way he swing he's sword, he's my main that day, when he got rework i stop using him
i miss the old aatrox, i loved that champ when rito reworked aatrox and i stopped playing league it was the best life decision i ever did
My beloved old Aatrox. I miss him.
The current Aatrox is the reason why i play League tbh, his Q chains are just so fun to do
This champ was A MONSTER back then... When I started Aatrox was a also a new champ back in season 3... So, as a player I bought him really early and was my favorite Champ... But, then through the seasons changed him... Sad that I can no longer play him as I used to... 😭
I mastery 5 the guy before his rework as a AA jungler. And man, getting reworked the moment he became so good
Old aatrox was my main. Not only was aatrox completely reworked but his entire lore was rewritten. Old aatrox was like the god of war, blood spilled in war with feed him and make him more powerful. New aatrox is an ascended who was suppose to fight against the void. After being corrupted by the void, he turned mad and those he fought for trapped his soul in the sword. Several dialogues mention this. Maybe it's some joke by riot "A god, reduced to a prisoner, where I was excellence, I am deformed". For me, old aatrox felt like you were a god on the battlefield, 1st rework was still good, still made him like a titan, especially if you went AP assassin. New aatrox isn't a rework, it's a new aatrox. Playing with him felt like I was scammed.
Ascendant are literally gods of war
My all-time opinion on aatrox and his rework is that while they did change a lot of how he played, they did a good job of maintaining his thematic death defying, and while yes the auto attacking drain tank dream got removed from the game, like 20 people played pre-rework aatrox, myself included, and now he is a top lane staple, more healthy for the game and more intuitive to play. While its a bit unfortunate that the old die hard fans feel cheated, old aatrox hardly has a place in modern league
To be fair I dont think riot really "maintained" his death defying thematic through aatrox on his own as a champion, its more so that the creation of goredrinker is what enabled it for numerous champions (Which is why is constantly had patches and patches of nerfs). Also on the point of old aatrox not having a place in modern day league I have to disagree. Champions like Tryndamere, Fiora, Camille, Irelia, etc are all considered staples in todays meta and they all have a similar gameplay focus to that of old aatrox. To me personally riot never really tried to even balance old aatrox. If you go through the patches you'll see that reworked aatrox has nearly triple the amount of changes and patches that riot tried to balance him on compared to that of old aatrox (And thats only counting the year of his reworks release alone). For me honestly the worst part of the aatrox rework is that if this "iteration of aatrox" was released as his own champion, I would've probably loved playing him and adding him to my list of champions but just the fact that I lost my favorite champion in the game still makes me salty :(
Honestly I can feel what you mean. When I started playing League on 2016 I mainly played three Champions. Akali, Jax and Irelia. Over time, as we all know, Irelia and Akali got reworked and even though they weren't as replaced through their reworks as Aatrox did it just feels very similar to me. Disregarding Jax on this since my old playstyle on him is not viable anymore and I completly stopped playing him, Riot took aways my favourit Champions in the game. What I loved about Irelia and Akali was a similar theme of Playstyle even though their class and the execution of it might differ a little. You were able to just go in, oneshot a carry and the get resets to do the same thing over and over. Irelia was able to do this with her old drain tanky playstyle of auto attacking and the new one just doesnt hit the spot for me. Even tho she seems similar I just dont get the same old feeling when going in, aside from her mechanical side which is way too difficult for me right now.
With Akali it was the same thing. You would have a fun little laning phase until 6 and then completly destroy. The skill expression on the w and r uses were really exciting and the mind games and outplays with your movement and the short hop felt completly different. Going in with your r oneshotting a carry without having that mechanical barrier before you going stealth, then doing the same thing over and over and dashing with your r reset jumps was the funniest thing I can remember. The new akali while having the same playstyle in theory as the old, just again doesnt hit the spot for me. Her new visual and audio design is not really what I like in a champion, her mechanics are way too difficult and different from what they used to be and her ultimate and r resets and the coehering skill expression of r reset usement and shroud hopping feels just wrong now.
Even though it is probably unlikly I still hope to play that lost "best girl", as my former weeb self called her, one more time.
My heart lacks a spot of fullfilment when playing League. RIP old akali
i will never forget the time when I was in my promos to s4 and flash r'd a minion, r'd a minion instead of a veigar and stood under inhib tower against 4 people who instandly killed me becasue they were in fog as I started the chase and we lost the game off of that play from me :(
Now I am EUW platinum and I would have loved to see what I could have pulled of with her now that I actually can play the game
Old aatrox was the champion I was looking for when I first started playing league. I loved building attack speed + lifesteal items on Darius, but that obviously didn't work. Mainly cause it was the first week I had started playing, but anyways I kept trying out new champions and I loved drain tanks, but I didn't like being so reliant on abilities. Auto attacking always felt the most satisfying for me. All these years later and I find out that aatrox was an auto attacking drain tank and I just have to sit here knowing my ideal champ used to exist, but doesn't anymore.
I loved the old Aatrox it was my main champion, I've never played it again since the update
Old aatrox was my boi. His lvl 1 with w could out trade ANY champ and it was so fun
While I may have picked up Old Aatrox in like, season 6-7. My time with him was the most fun I ever had in League of Legends through the near 10 years I've been playing. His playstyle was so cool and made it feel opposite of what you should do with other champions in the game. Go in, go hard, turn the tides of battle when all seems lost. E Q Ult and toggle w when needed. Good target prio made him a monster.
New Aatrox has never, and will never feel the same. They removed my boi from the game and while I play a lot of Darius and even picked up and learned Riven, I just don't have that same enjoyment as I did with old Aatrox. League hasn't been the same to me since that fateful day.
Aatrox was my first main, i will never forgive riot for his rework, i loved to play Attack speed aatrox, Guinsoo + Hydra + Spirit was insane, once i dived at full health, died, revived, got a pentakill and left tower at full health.
For me, the best part of playing aatrox was the enemy team saying "bro that aatrox is scary", "report aatrox hacks", "nerf aatrox" after getting my Q R W(power mode) and no chances to even flash due to R's attack range. Getting ganked was a guaranteed double kill for me, flash + Q was the longest engage in the game i guess.
So after the rework, no champion made me feel like a War God like aatrox
But after 4 years i discovered Quinn, she made league of legends fun to play again
I would absolutely not mind it if they made a "new" champion and just gave them Aatrox's old kit. Like it doesn't even have to be the old aesthetic or anything. Just the kit, untouched (maybe a minor adjustment) but something that screams "Old Aatrox is back."
This way, people who actually like New Aatrox don't lose their favorite champion like I did.
I hate it whenever people scream aatrox was murdered.
His core identity was preserved, and he was reworked like every other Vgu,
Like. Look at poppy, swain, akali, fiora sion, etc. They aren't the same champions, they just have their core concept preserved.
The first change to Aatrox was my absolute favorite because jungle aatrox could solo baron at 20 minutes with 1 item and 1 item component. If u saw jg bot lane then baron was free
Old Aatrox was my most picked toplaner back in the day and he carried me all thewayto my first ever victorious skin, i will never, NEVER, forgive riot about what they did with him
This is really interesting to me since I started playing not long after his vgu, never got to see the old aatrox in action. I think it'd be cool if riot did some kind of time warp event where we could play old versions of some reworked champs, doubt that'll ever happen, but it'd be neat
i cry, first real penta i ever got was on old aatrox. Deaths dance and phantom dancer with old press the attack and aatrox passive. fill bloodwell, get the attackspeed buffs from press the attack and that at the same time. first item deaths dance back when it had lifesteal, i miss it. lost alot of lanes since he wasnt really a great champ, but i could carry team fights at 2 items.
