this is crucial. if you read the small small print. it says this product is NOT to be used for shower flooring. i learned that the hard way. it took almost a week to the adhesive to fully dry. BUT in that fine print it says, and I quote - DO not use on steam rooms (a shower is such a space), areas subject to water emersion, do not apply over waterproofing (Red Guarded areas), only use in area with temps between 40 and 95 degrees. My shower hot water is set at 128 degrees at the water heater. do not use to set glass tile or stone tile. Those are some serious limitations for use in a shower area.
What about this stuff on a painted concrete floor in a basement?
Is there a reason why you don't recommend on a floor? Was thinking of using it for a repair of a detached tile.
You can absolutely use thinset on gypsum.

Don’t use for floor tiling!!! It doesn’t dry.. I had to remove all.
Does the exposed drywall paper need to be sealed before using this product?

Dont use it on floor. Its been 2 months the most and my bathroom tile is all coming up. 😢. Installed over backer board

Why all the nightmare reviews on the major box store websites. That state. Does not dry in 72 hours.???
I don't recommend this stuff even though it's in the tile section and claims to be tile adhesive. Your better off using something different. Definitely don't recommend for floor tile. I've made that mistake and hints to the fact I'm here to warn you.
Can this be used for glass mosaic wall tiles?

old comment, but no. it isn't meant to be used over a waterproofing\uncoupling membrane.
If your using red guard over a painted ...etc surface for doing a backsplash then yes I recommend it.
Mapei Type 1 adheres much better to a primed surface like red guard.
