Man i still couldn't believe this kind of game was never attempted again. It really was a unique game for it's time and still very much is. This game will always be one of my favorites.
A true hidden gem
I only found out this game existed last year when looking for more games like quest 64
After all these years of wondering, it's finally over lol I can't imagine the creators watching this and being impressed with 1.) how you guys accomplished this and 2.) how dedicated people still are to this game. Super awesome!
I remember 15 years ago when I got to play this game what was the maximum amount of combos you could do… now I know and I never knew it took 20 years for someone to pull it off… you have my thanks… this game needs more recognition!!!! And more people need to play it

when i replayed the game i had found a few of these. i trained as a boxer and an MMA fighter with a buddy of mine and i just incorporated the punches and kicks i used. similarly some of them stuck. and BAM! combo finishers!

This is so cool and useful, you said it best when you mentioned this game doesn't explain itself, and I was finding and understanding new stuff up until the end of my first playthrough! It's honestly just nice seeing this game get love. ❤

Had no idea about this as you'd imagine, like, the special combos in general.
I both love and hate it leaves you in the dark, it pushes the player to experiment and explore what's possible

I really like this game back in the day.Always wonder what secret combos and moves needed to be discovered. The leveling up system was cool, trying to level the parts of the body. Made it seem some what realistic 20 yrs ago lol

@ 00:35 the kick reversal i never seen that before is there footage of all the reversals? do you need to learn them? Reversal never worked for me in coutless playthroughs.
- The reversals are special techniques (meaning you can only do them via special means).
- There's only 5 reversals in the game: Knee Kick, Shoulder Toss, Reversal Elbow, Kick Reversal and Head Kick Reversal.
- You can perform these techs by countering enemy attacks, you don't need to learn them for this to work.
- Actually, the game only allows you to "learn" the grab reversals, whereas the floor reversals cannot be obtained in the tech list (similar to the finishing moves).
- Despite that, every special technique has its own skill level that grows everytime you perform it.
- Grab reversals work better when you have a lot more reflex and speed than your opponent. Floor reversals have a much higher chance but, if you and your opponent have similar level, then you need to try the counter option a couple times per fight before it works.
@@PandoraJane37 Besides the music ranod, I want to add knee kick and shoulder toss selectable in the tech list, knee kick is really cool.
@@ClassicGameHacking yeah it's a shame that there're not available on the tech list, that also makes knee kick the only multi-hit tech that doesn't trigger more than 2 times

agree. Apparently you can play using parsec with Project64, although you need to get a decent gamefile for it to be balanced

And what about that random critical strike that rarely occurs? I think that is still a mystery to this day. It is random or do you need to do something special?

So I've started playing hybrid heaven and it's my first playthrough ever. I'm still a little confused on the combat stat rating. From what I understand is the sum of all of your attack skill levels make your accumulative offense stat. Is that correct or no? i'm just having a hard time figuring out how to increase my combat stat. Anyways this is an awesome video and I'm extremely appreciative for you sharing that spreadsheet with all that data. It's like a full dissection of the game mechanics.
Not sure what you mean by combat stat. If you're refering to how much damage you do, that is a function of your Offense stat, your body parts offense (depending of the attack different parts can add up), your skill level with the tech you're using, and then the enemy defense stat and its body part defense of where the move landed.
@@PandoraJane37 so from how I understood the sum of your attacks in a certain combat style all equal the sum of your attack. So like all variants of kicks (high mid low and all their variants add up to the sum of your damage output) so you should try to level up every single attack in what ever style you choose to use. rather then focusing on just doing high kicks or something like. or is it more like your output is the sum of one variety of attack style like say high or low in whatever fighting style you use? Thank you for your response. I stumbled on your page looking stuff up on this game and you seem like a certified guru for hybrid heaven.
@@readifer when it comes to skill level of moves, only the skill level of the move you're doing affects the amount of damage, the skill level of all other techs have no effect. That said, if you want to keep increasing your skill level, you have to eventually level up all moves because the game has a skill level cap that depends on the sum of skill levels of different moves. Seriously, this is so awesome, you have no idea how close I have been to discovering one of these, like the ones that used only front kicks and almost only back spin kicks.
Apart from that, I know that there are 3 fighting styles in this game, but I'm not talking about the moves, I'm talking about the way your character moves. I got the street fighting style (or tae-kwon-do, maybe?) only one time by accident, in one of my playthroughs, when fighting the red dinasour boss at the end of Level 1, but I never managed to get it again, I tried getting the number of hit counts in similar numeric distance to when it triggered the style, but nothing u.u. Do you know something about this?
And another thing, do you know where can I, once again, get the complete soundtrack? I used to listen to it in UA-cam, but now there is only one long video that has the tracks order all over the place and maybe with some missing ones.

All the fighting stances data is stored in the Moves Database document I made for the game. Normally you can only obtain 4 of them: Default, Kicker, Boxer and Wrestler.

There's no full OST of this game in the internet, noone has ever extracted all the music files. Even back then when there were more videos about it on youtube, they always missed the area 4 and 6 tracks. We need some hacker to extract the original music files from the game.

I have a few questions about playing as an alien.
1) do you get to choose or you can only play as that alien with the flower skirt?
2) Does it change the story/dialogue at all or does the game still act like you’re playing as Johnny Slater?
3) is your starting move set and attributes different?
1) Only that one, Naos
2) Same story, everyone says Diaz/Johnny, it al so doesn't change character on the skippable cutscenes
3) Same moves, is completely cosmetic
Wow what a joke. Doesn’t really give you any incentive to put forth the effort required to beat it on ultimate does it? For as much BS as you gotta deal with to beat this game on that difficulty the rewards should be a lot more interesting than a change in cosmetics. Thanks for the response.
@@randyrockholt834 yeah, but you have to think that the game was rushed at the end and they probably didn't have a lot of time for extra stuff when they barely got enough to balance such a complex game.
True. It still blows though. Imagine if we could get this game remastered on the PS4 with added content. Usually I would say with every other game getting remastered these Days it could happen, but it’s probably too obscure. Since you love this game as much as I do (Perceivably) You should check out treachery in beatdown city. The Most comparable game I’ve ever seen to hybrid heaven. It’s not actually finished but you can play it on the PC or switch.
This game needs a full current gen remake with a handful more save stations that have a shop for items in them, and a currency system.
Do you know how to use the Aliens powers? I remember playing against my brother back then and he clicked a bunch of random things and shot me with some sort of beam.
oh interesting, I know on multiplayer you can use C-buttons to triger some stuff like invinsibility and blue fire
@@PandoraJane37 it bugged me for a long time, tried random button mashing too and it never worked for me. And now that this popped up it reminds me how much it bugged me that I never figured that out. Think you can make a video on that? Lol

you mean with jacket johnny? yeah, you unlock that costume after beating the game on hard. Naos and president costumes are unlocked after beating the game on Ultimate
How do you unlock finishers I did the combo but nothing happened
did you do the combo with 5 power bars? are you sure you got it correctly? did you killed the enemy on the fifth attack?
if after all those questions the finisher still doesn't show up, please send me which combo it was and take a picture of your stats and levels
