it's not my favorite N64 game overall, but I do love it too. It's the kind of odd game that despite it's flaws is just oddly compelling. I also enjoy the B movie charme of the story, despite it really just being a few weird cutscenes between beating the shit out of aliens and robots. The counter does work btw, it just counterattacks when the enemy's attack misses you. Still pretty useless though, since when it works you are usually too far apart to hit them anyway. In general the game just doesn't explain the mechanics very well. Like you can change your stance (which side of your body points towards the enemy) and I still don't know what the point is.
I still play this game every now and then. No one has ever come close to making such a rad combat system. I adore this game and think it was criminally underrated. I hope others take note of it one day and implement a similar combat system. Its so fun!
